I don't really understand the 'In-Progress' part here. It reads like a review, rather than a 'hands on' or preview and there are conclusions, so why no score?
I get that it's a slow burner and you obviously haven't experienced the whole game, but you could say the same for actual Animal Crossing which is mentioned a few times here and that still got a review score.
Such a fun game. I played it loads on Game Pass when I subbed and keep meaning to buy it on...something. Just can't decide on which version to get though - Twin-sticks on either Switch or Series is probably the best way to play, but I'm temped to get it on a retro system - either Dreamcast or Mega Drive.
Added to the Wishlist. I'm a bit behind with Picross though done a few of the E-Series on 3DS as well as the Mario and Zelda versions, and played the first 3 of the S-Series on Switch.
For those that are into Picross and don't mind playing on a mobile I highly recommend Pixel Puzzle Collection which is basically Konami-themed Picross (without the actual Picross name obviously) with the added bonus that the background music is fantastic.
@NinjaNicky You shouldn't have to wait long for a discount - Inside is one of those games that almost feels like its on sale just as much as it's not. 90% off every 6wks or so for the last couple of years according to Deku Deals. Can't go wrong for £1.69 IMO
I don't mind buying loose carts, but the thought of actually chucking out cases makes me shudder. That said, I have put all my DVD's in those disc wallets with the cases in the loft. I doubt I'd miss them if I decided to get rid of them and they're worth next to nothing now so no reason to keep them really.
@dartmonkey I think its the same guy that accused @Olliemar28 of 'advertising' and bias towards Kit & Krysta's YouTube channel last week in one of the articles.
Played this on Game Pass a few years ago and really enjoyed it. One of those games that I went into knowing absolutely nothing about and was pleasantly surprised. Not sure if I'll pick it up to play again on Switch though unless it gets a heavy discount.
@Toastmaster Where did I say it was terrible? I said that from what I'd seen it hadn't reviewed very well. There was a reviews 'round up' article on Pure Xbox where there were a couple of 8s, but most were 6 or lower - Push Square and Pure Xbox both gave 6s I think. Metacritic rating is low 60s at the moment so I'd say that it wasn't reviewing particularly well.
@lovesushi There was an Alone in The Dark Remake released last month on PS/XBox. I haven't played it, but from what I've seen, it hasn't reviewed very well.
@BANJO Yeah, I've still got my original Gameboy. Not sure when I last used it though as I generally play GB carts on the GBA SP or more recently the Analogue Pocket.
@Bob__Loblaw I can't take the credit for it - I saw it mentioned in the forums. You'll need a tri-point screwdriver but be careful not to strip the screws though, I think they.make them from marshmallow or something!
@Bob__Loblaw I had been using the Hori Split Pad Pro for handheld, but these are so much better for the reasons you mentioned. I've also modified a JoyCon grip by removing the handles and just keeping the section with the rails, so the MobaPad can be used as a controller when docked too.
Just recently got the Mobapad M6 HD controller/joycons and my first impressions are that they are easily the best controller I've ever used on Switch. @JaxonH had been raving about these for a while in the forums, and I have to say I was a bit sceptical as he tends to be quite positive about most things, but the hype is real for these.
@Nontendo_4DS Partner Showcase features 3rd party publishers - Capcom, Sega, Ubisoft, EA and some indies etc while the Indie Showcase is usually exclusively games by smaller studios - although Konami had a game featured in a previous one and I wouldn't exactly call them Indie! More likely to see a 1st Party game sneak into a Partner Showcase rather than an Indie Showcase I reckon.
I've played a few of these. The Bit Trip games are easily worth it and Mana Spark and Rekt were decent enough. I've got Dex in the backlog from a previous sale too. There are quite a few with 65+ Metacritic scores so they'd likely be worth it for £0.89 if anyone is looking for something to fill a few hours.
Check out Deku Deals website and filter by publisher, then sort by Metacritic score to get to the 'good' stuff.
Everybody is missing the main benefit of digital over physical here - it's much easier to buy a(nother) digital game and my spouse know absolutely nothing about it!
@jco83 I don't think it matters for the format, but it was clearly aimed at physical formats and hasn't really been updated for the digital age. Nothing stopping you copying digital formats unless the source uses DRM as a means try and stop you copying it. GOG.com sells games on PC for example and is DRM free so you can back the games up to an external Hard Drive or whatever. I guess it doesn't apply to streaming services though as you don't have the 'file' locally so there's no way to make a copy as a backup. Yes, format shifting is copying (rather than just moving) to a different format (ripping a DVD to a hard drive for example, or even copying to a DVD-R) so would be considered a copy, but it allowed as long as you have the original.
@jco83 Fair enough, but your original comment stated ALL copying is illegal - just pointing out that it's not. The original creator of the work isn't losing out if you are just format shifting something you've already paid for - including dumping a ROM from a Switch game you've bought so you can play on PC.
Granted the apparent 1m TOK ROMs mentioned in the article were clearly not people format shifting, but as has also been mentioned in the comments, there's no way of telling if they were played on an emulator or a hacked Switch. As also pointed out in the comments - and every time the subject of emulation comes up to be honest - A ROM downloaded does not equal a sale lost. There are likely a huge amount of folk that had no intention of ever buying it but downloaded it anyway to give it a try - some of those may well have bought a legit copy when it came out as well.
@jco83 UK copyright law does actually allow you to make a copy 'for your own use' and I think it's the same in the US. When you start to distribute (or sell) it to others or no longer have the original that's it becomes a problem. Most common example of copying for your own use is probably format shifting - ripping CDs to use on an iPod/phone, or DVDs/Blu-ray to a home server. I've even burned digital music to a disc so I could use it in my (old) car the didn't have Bluetooth, but did have a CD player.
@Cyrax77 Are you getting mixed up with the Indie Showcases maybe? Last Partner Direct appears to have been in June 2022 and had (amongst others) Monster Hunter Sunbreak, Nier, Mario + Rabbids, Sonic Frontiers, Live A Live, Minecraft Legends and DQ Treasures, Portal Collection and 3 Persona Games announced. Hardly filled with Mobile games
Wish these UK charts has the actual sales figures like the Japanese charts do. Would be interesting to see just how many copies need to be sold to get to No.1 (and see how much MK8 & GTAV are still selling per week)
This whole article is clickbait. I've been following the rumours quite closely over the past few weeks and it's all been about actual games coming to other platforms - not Game Pass.
During the podcast, there was no discussion about Game Pass going to other platforms - it was literally that single sentence taken out of context, which was said in a broader discussion about exclusivity. The full quote was something along the lines of "Our games will always be on Game Pass day one, and we know Game Pass will only be available on Xbox".
@Qwiff It's not really a change in Xbox strategy though - we've had games that were initially Xbox exclusives on Switch before so I don't think it's that big a deal. All the crazy rumours that have spiralled out of control over the last week that have made it seem like some big announcement, when in all likelihood it's just an update explaining that a few games will be available on other platforms, and maybe an update on he ABK stuff coming to Game Pass. I suspect they might also confirm they have no immediate plans to ditch hardware in response to some of the rumours.
@Qwiff Not really. It makes more sense for the platform that's getting it to announce it. Xbox may want games on other platforms, but they're certainly not going to promote those platforms.
@HeadPirate As @StevenH has already stated, its a 'business update' rather than a Direct, so I'm not really expecting reveals so there's no need for trailers etc. It's entirely possible that this was always going to be a low key discussion via podcast, but the rumours flying around this last week or so have brought it into the spotlight perhaps more than it needed to be. They just did a Direct-Style presentation a few weeks ago, so I doubt they'd have anything new to reveal anyway.
There have been rumours of a Nintendo Direct this week too, so I expect if any games are coming to Switch then I guess they'll be revealed there - the timing of the Xbox podcast lines up with this theory. I suspect there will be some discussion around why they've decided to put select games on other consoles (not entirely a new thing given Switch has Ori & Cuphead and PS has Psychonauts 2 and Minecraft is on pretty much everything) and maybe an update on if/when ABK games are going to Game Pass and possibly a lot of the often repeated 'we'll consider on a game-by-game basis' if asked about other games going multi-platform. I doubt they'll mention the previously-leaked digital-only Series X as it'll get a proper reveal if/when it releases.
@the_beaver I think it might be the other way around - the event was apparently already planned (but not yet announced) and somebody leaked some of the content: the info about 'select' games going to other platforms. Fanboys, 'leakers' and every youtuber desperate for clicks piled on and 'select games' soon became pretty much every game, which in turn grew to 'Xbox are leaving the console space and becoming a third party publisher'.
@CharlieZee I modded my Wii so I could play the games from an external hard drive without having to use the discs - haven't got a single pirated game. Modded my Dreamcast for the same reason - playing the games from SD card instead of the disc, 3DS is next to get rid of the region lock for buying imports from eBay etc. Haven't done the Switch as I haven't got a spare and don't want to risk a ban for going online with a modded console and don't really need any of the benefits modding brings at this point - maybe in the future.
Kinda wish I hadn't picked these up on the 3DS before the eShop closed now. Can't really justify buying again for Switch given I still haven't played them.
Currently playing the GBA original and, while I'm enjoying it, I don't think there's enough here for me to justify buying it again. I think dropping the original on NSO would've made more sense than a remake.
@FishyS I guess the difference is with this, and possibly the genre as a whole, is that it is somewhat more 'timeless' than both Super Mario Bros or Quake. Both 2D platformers and FPSs have moved on significantly since those games but with shmups, in many cases the ones that are considered classics are still regarded as some of the best in the genre.
@FishyS This is a apparently a fantastic port of one of the most highly regarded games in the genre, so I guess in those terms the 10/10 is justified. From the scoring policy: ...this is a genre defining game that we absolutely feel you should own
NL does seem to have a lot of highly rated shmups, but there have been a lot of genre classics ports to Switch so I guess it makes sense they score particularly high - particularly when the ports have been really high quality as well.

It also says I played 15 games, but looking at the list, I only actually played 9 of them - as well as MK8 mentioned above, the others look like stuff my kids started on my profile by mistake.
I've been playing 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on Switch in Dec though, so that's about 30h more. About 230h on Xbox, and a fair bit on older games too (3DS, DS, Analogue Pocket).
@Rhaoulos if you are referring to the 4 games that are not linked in the list, it's because they are mentioned and linked previously in the article - NL never seems to link the same game twice in the same article. All of the games have NL pages, and all but 2 actually have reviews.
I have to admit if one of those people when I see the term 'Rogue-like/lite' in a review then I tend to roll my eyes a little, but I have actually played a few and did actually enjoy most of them too. The term 'Metroidvania' also makes me cringe a bit too, so I guess it's more the terminology rather than the actual genres that I dislike.
The first one has been on and off my wishlist a few times now, but I might just pull the trigger now given it's currently only £5 on Xbox and I just happen to have some reward points burning a hole in my pocket.
My games in cases (PS2 onwards) are currently just stacked on a shelf that I was planning to display Lego on - but the Lego is currently sorted in boxes in the bookcase the games are going to go into 🤦♂️
Loose carts (mostly handhelds) just stored in boxes in various drawers until the bookcase becomes available - not sure how I'm going to store them in the bookcase though.
@JONOFTHEJONS Civet Coffee (or Kopi Luwak) is actually a thing - not made from the faeces per se, but from the undigested beans found in the faeces of the Civet Cat.

@JONOFTHEJONS Civet Coffee (or Kopi Luwak) is actually a thing - not made from the faeces per se, but from the undigested beans found in the faeces of the Civet Cat.
