If you're located anywhere within Europe, Australia, or New Zealand - we're sorry to say, but the Switch eShop version of Shantae And The Seven Sirens has experienced a last-minute delay.
Instead of a 28th May release, the game will now be arriving on 4th June (that's next week). WayForward says the delay was beyond its control and has no additional details to share. Here's the full statement it shared on Twitter:
WayForward was also asked by a fan if this would affect the physical release in any locations and reassured them there was nothing to be concerned about. And just to make it clear - the game is still arriving in North America this week.
Has this delay personally impacted you? Leave a comment down below.

Phew! Dodged a bullet there.
We might be a virus-riddled country run by insane people, but at least I don't have to wait an extra week to get my Shantae fix.
Gonna have to pick up Pirates Curse when there's a sale. See if I like this series. Looooooove shantae as a character tho
@Blooper987 Pirate's Curse is fantastic. You won't regret it.
@Ralizah It's been in my backlog (along with 1/2 genie) for a long time now. This summer looks packed with great indies tho so it may have to wait still.
@Northwind I'll show you your way out...
Its forward.
I'm an American, but I'll sympathize for Europe and hold hope that they can wait out a bit longer, as well as hope they're safe from what's going on now.
I'm sorry for those in Europe. If it's any consolation, I live in the States but won't be playing the game for probably a good 2-3 months as I'm waiting for the physical copy
This game looks more like Pirates curse and less like 1/2 genie hero so that's a buy from me.
@Aurumonado Curious as to why?
@Blooper987 I mean, it has been out since 2014 or so, so waiting a bit longer isn't going to hurt anyone. Just... don't let Half-Genie Hero dissuade you from giving Pirate's Curse a go.
Wait, it was coming out this week? I didn't even realise.
@Ralizah Same here. Pre-purchased the second it went live last week and have been counting the days to play since it's already installed.
@BenAV Yeah Wayforward was very late to post it to the eShop waiting until one week prior to launch. Most other titles sit in the eShop for months with with the ability to preorder.
@Nico07 I guess I just haven't checked the US eShop in the last week. Just the Australian and Japanese ones where it doesn't have a listing. Also follow them on Facebook but still had no idea, haha.
One week delay is not that big of a deal.
@Nico07 Haha, me too. I'm more excited for this than any other currently scheduled Switch release this year.
Is this payback for all the superior collectors' editions Europe has gotten?
Why? Why??? I've been waiting for soooooooo long now! Whyyyyyyyyyyyy??????
@Barbara001 If you really can't wait a week you can always use the US eShop
I'll just download the US version then lol.
@0rwellians0n I tagged you by mistake, I already editted my comment.
@TechaNinja I can't speak for @Aurumonado but personally I liked Pirate's Curse more as well. The biggest difference is that Pirate's Curse is an open world/Metroidvania game while 1/2 Genie Hero has a world map with separate levels and feels a lot more linear in general. It still has exploration elements but it feels scaled back a lot.
Very disappointing and frustrating (seeing as it's only Europe/Oceania impacted). This was going to be my main weekend game. I just completed Pirate's Curse for the second time yesterday in preparation for this game and it reminded me just how good the series can be.
Maybe I'll buy Half Genie Hero to fill in the time or maybe I'll try and find a workaround to buy it from the American eShop.
@countzero Any idea what the feedback has been for this new Shantae then (either ppl who have previewed early or played the apple one)? Looking to be as good if not better then 1/2?
If it's good imma most likely get day1
Cant wait till tomorrow to play it
@countzero Agreed, Pirates Curse was better. Although the visuals of 1/2 Genie were very good.
@Ralizah ahh i see a fellow fan of the danganronpa series
@GigaNibba
@Ralizah Is the danganronpa series appropriate or is there a lot of mature content? I've really wanted to pick it up but haven't been able to tell.
@Blooper987 well its got some pretty bad language and some vulgar scenes but the plot is awesome.If ur ok with some foul mouthed languade and some exposure then u should definitely get it
@GigaNibba Thanks, I'll probably wait and see if it comes to switch. I've heard it is kinda like ace attorney and I love those games.
@GigaNibba Yep. It's my single favorite franchise of the 2010s.
@Blooper987 The games are M-rated for a reason. The actual in-game depictions of violence usually aren't too extreme, but there is a LOT of really bleak and disturbing subject matter explored throughout the series. Still, if you like Ace Attorney games, you're at least comfortable enough with the subject of murder that they probably won't be TOO much of an issue. If you're particularly sensitive to subjects related to child abuse and/or more graphic depictions of extreme violence, I'd say to stick to the mainline games (Trigger Happy Havoc, Goodbye Despair, and V3), as the spinoff game and anime sequel get... kind of hairy in that regard.
Have you ever played the Zero Escape games? Danganronpa feels like a cross between that and Ace Attorney. The Ace Attorney comparison comes in because, every chapter, you'll be exploring environments for evidence and using those to point out contradictions in "class trials," where you and your classmates will have to try to find out who committed a murder.
It's an amazing series, and one I can't recommend highly enough for its strong world-building, fun gameplay, and quirky characters. If you own a Vita, PS4, or PC, you can find them all on those platforms, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they got an eventual Switch port. It feels like they're just perfect for the platform.
@Ralizah The violence normally doesn't faze me. I might watch a few things about it to see if it's for me. Never heard of Zero Escape but I'll look at it too, it looks like it's on 3ds so I might check it out.
@Blooper987 If you do, please start with 999 on the NDS. Like Ace Attorney and Danganronpa, the Zero Escape games all have deep story connections to one-another.
@TechaNinja
I liked Pirates Curse (metroidvania-lite with dungeons and dungeon items) and I really didn't like 1/2 genie hero (rushed kickstarter that made the player revisit a few uninspired linear levels).
@Ralizah @Blooper987
I also recommend 999 and VLR. Amazing games.
@Ralizah lol that is true, in my country people don't understand metric, so 2 meters apart could mean anything.
@Blooper987 I much prefer Pirate's Curse over Half-Genie Hero, and the new game sounds like it will be a lot more like Pirate's Curse which is fantastic
Yea but there is no physical edition except for the one from limited run, right?
@ouroborous
On the preorder site, it details a possible (likely?) Best Buy run in addition to theirs. They don’t know when, or where (no region locking, so: irrelevant, to the hardcore), but a second version, much like Yooka-Laylee, should be available at retail...Sometime 2020.
