After being announced at Nintendo's Indie Highlight presentation last January, the Indiegogo crowdfunding project CrossCode has finally locked in a release date for the Nintendo Switch.
According to a new trailer uploaded by the game's Japanese publisher Dangen Entertainment, the retro-inspired 2D action RPG will be released in Japan on 9th July. A local listing on the Microsoft Store lines up with this date and also confirms the digital release will be priced at $19.99.
ININ Games will be handling the physical release of this game on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, but it might not necessarily arrive on the same day as the digital edition. Here's a look at the box art:
Will you be trying this one out on release? Let us know.

Finally! This has been my most anticipated indie game on Switch for ages. I've heard nothing but incredible things about the PC version.
Yes! I heard about this a while back and I've been interested on it, glad to see it has a physical copy I can get.
I actually feel bad that it's on Microsoft gamepass for PC and I didn't notice. I could have been playing it already.
Take my money take my money..
I really enjoyed this one despite the RSI-inducing controls on PC and the somewhat baffling plot. It oozes charm and ticks so many boxes for me with its gameplay loop.
Awesome! Loved what I played on PC Game Pass but really felt it was more suited to playing on the go (for me). Don't sleep on this one.
Played the Early Access version and really liked it despite having problems with some puzzles (and fights). This is a great game and I'll happily buy it again on Switch.
Looks interesting, may wait on a review on this one.
Normaly i kinda hate these kinda games and wanted to scroll away haha. Till i played the video.
Man if games like these apeared on the Sness i would cry haha.
I will give this a try.
I’ve been enjoying it on PC game pass. I don’t wanna restart my progress though. For anyone thinking about it, this is a great game at a steal of a price. Kinda like how I felt getting Hollow Knight for $15.
Yes getting the physical for sure but still gonna buy digital first.
Such a great game! I should really go back to it, but I found it quite hard. So I'm afraid that it will kick my ass now that I haven't played it for several months
Looks great, hope there is an english translation
This one was recently announced via Strictly Limited Games and their new partner store operation.
SLG appears to have partnered with ININ for a few games to be sold through their site, but also for projects like the Clockwork Aquario restoration.
Loved the PC demo, looking forward to this one! Very nice sprite art.
@Bunkerneath The game was originally developed in English (by a German indie studio) so no worries there. This announcement makes it sound like Dangen Entertainment is the publisher but it's more accurate to call them the Japanese distributor and localization team.
This looks like someone took Chrono Trigger and made it into a platformer. Odd, but it looks good.
Finally! I bought the game on day one on pc, poured almost 30 hours into it, but never got around to finishing. It's an absolute gem and it deserves way more attention than it has.
Just FYI Nintendo Life, it was not announced LAST January, but the one before...2019!
@Jalashek It has some platforming elements but it is more like an action RPG, so the better comparison would be Secret of Mana.
Oh, and the Microsoft Store does not line up with the date: it has a release date of 6/9/2019...
@Wervyn Yes but if they are only distributing the physicals in Japan, will they be distributing to other areas? Like the UK for instance.
Had my eye on this one. Day 1 buy.
Good stuff, feel like I've been waiting on this one forever.
@jipiboily It was announced/officially confirmed for the Switch last January. Here's the announcement trailer (notice the date): https://youtu.be/2XU9lz45tKU
Radical Fish Games denied it was coming to the Switch right up until December 2018: https://www.radicalfishgames.com/?p=6581
And maybe check that Microsoft Store link again
Hey @Liam_Doolan
So, the store link is to the PC listing, which was released in 2019: https://share.metricswatch.com/L1up4YRK (unless it was edited since then; I just happen to still have the tab open).
And yeah, we agree, the announcement was back in January 2019...I guess we just might have a different definition of "last January". For me, it is the last time the calendar told me "January" as the month, which was January 2020.
Looking forward to playing CrossCode on my Switch!
Edit: I see that the link to the store was indeed edited to be the Xbox listing, and the new one shows July 8th. Exciting times!
@Bunkerneath To my knowledge the physical release hasn't been officially announced yet, but sites like this are basing that partly on listings appearing on Amazon Spain and Germany:
https://www.gonintendo.com/stories/362558-listing-for-a-physical-version-of-crosscode-pops-up-on-amazon-ger
So I think it's safe to expect any physical release will be worldwide, right now. I also anticipate some more first-hand information from the developers/publisher later today, that will hopefully clear up any questions.
Oh very interested indeed on this one - I will keep an eye out for the physical edition!
Hawt dog! This game was amazing. Definitely gonna double dip. 168hrs on PC, my kids would love this!
That game is super-fun. Played while it was still under heavy development, so looking forward to starting again on Switch. Tons of content and side quests added since my first go at it.
The trailer packs in so much. Still very interested in this one and will get it either digital or physical if it's easy enough to get hold of.
This game looks like the lovechild of Xenosaga and Earthbound.
@Smashfan508 Think I like the look of Cross Code because it's fast paced and I like the ranged attacks. The puzzles look good too. 😀
Been checking it out on Xbox game pass for PC, I've only played the beginning section, but this game surprised me and was much better than I was expecting. Twin stick shooter rpg, lot of charm and great gameplay.
@Bunkerneath This game has always been in english actually. I'm actually surprised they had it in JP, but they do have multiple language options for CrossCode.
@Liam_Doolan yeah the running joke was the fans basically asked "CROSSCODE SWITCH WHEN?!"
Radical Fish Games: It will come on Switch when Hedgehags learn how to fly
Switch Trailer drops*
RFG: Oh by the way, we put helicopter packs on our Hedgehags
Fans: QWQ
@Smashfan508 depending on the environment, puzzle, and the number of (and kinds) of enemies you are facing in one area/room, you may be required to 'think fast'. It's forgiving but at the same time very challenging depending on your equipment and character stats. Even if you're strong, you can get killed due to being damaged too much too easily.
Got an email a few days ago that Strictly Limited Games is going to have a "partner store" for this game
