The trilogies, especially Apollo Justice, desperately need Switch 2 resolution patches. SOJ is almost unbearable to look at... for whatever reason the upscaling method just doesn't work for that game. I was really disappointed that no S2 news dropped in this patch.
Don’t want to sound like a broken record, but with no Switch 2 patch for handheld 1080p this is a no go for me, same with Hundred Line. I’m going to grab Hundred Line for steam deck, and maybe this one day.
Though I still haven’t played Rain Code… That’s a lot of Kodaka backlog…
There’s also companies who definitely have dev kits who haven’t released S2 optimised versions of brand new S1 games. Like Sega and the new Shinobi game. Something is definitely going on with Nintendo guidelines.
The whole Switch 2 era is starting to stink a bit tbh. Hopefully Nintendo can pull their heads out.
@Ulysses 100% agree, glad you feel the same way because I haven't seen many people talk about it. It's mostly "switch 1 games run amazing on switch 2!" and then I feel like I'm the odd one out when I can't handle the blocky, blurry mess.
This goes for what you said about current releases. Almost every 2025 switch release, from indie to mid-tier developers, isn't optimised for switch 2 resolution. Why would I buy the new Shantae on Switch 2 for the same price as the Steam version when it's just going to look worse?
The downscale idea you suggested is a good shirt term solution, as would be getting them to run in docked mode. But I can see the multiple reasons why Nintendo wouldn't do either.
Ah well. I don't want to complain, I want to love my Switch 2. But it's hard to ignore
I agree with the above about the 1080p screen. So many of my Switch 1 upscaling issues would be solved if they'd stuck with a 720p screen. Ace Attorney SOJ just looks so bad on my Switch 2 screen without a 1080p patch. Meanwhile it looks crisp and clean at 720p on my Steam deck OLED.
I'm really souring on the Switch 2 right now... they just cut too much performance potential. It was fine for Switch 1 and developers can work around it like they did on the OG... but there's limits to how many miracles can be performed. What's going to happen with third party games in 3 years?
The Switch 2 has the Deck beat on specs for now. But what about in a few years when a Steam Deck 2 drops? I used to play all Indies and every third party title I feasibly could on Switch. Now I'm tempted to make all new third party purchases on Steam and basically keep the SW2 as a Splatoon Raiders (and Fortnite) machine.
The original Pro Controller also can’t wake the Switch 2. I thought it wouldn’t be a problem but it’s been bugging me a lot recently. Especially since unlike the PS5, pressing the on button on the Switch 2 when docked only gives you like 30 seconds to connect the controller and activate the home screen before it goes back to sleep
Good to see that they’re still developing on it (I know there were budgetary constraints). Really hoping they can squeeze in a Switch 2 patch, even if it’s a paid upgrade
@Ramouz yep what @Jack_Goetz describes is exactly what I did. It's very easy to create a new account set to Japan (or any other country) and have it as an additional user on your switch. I was a bit worried that virtual game cards might somehow cause an issue but it seems to work perfectly. The only annoyance really is that if you're used to only having one user on your switch you'll now have to select a user every time you open a game/eshop/Nintendo online app.
Tomtoc is my go-to for any type of case. Outstanding quality and protection, plus they look great. They even made a slim one for the Switch w/ hori comfort split pads.
@Fiergala it's so back... Except they hide their identities and use lore now. It's a lot more pop infused too. The biggest examples are Sleep Token and Bad Omens. PRESIDENT is a new project from Busted's Charlie Simpson, pure metalcore pop from a guy wearing a president mask. Check it out for fun
All this Busted shock makes me think there isn’t much crossover between Nintendo Life writers/readers and those who know about PRESIDENT (a very hyped pop metal act that’s fronted by a Busted member in disguise. So hot right now)
Would have liked it to get to 1080p on handheld, but it still looks pretty good. Definitely a step back on a 4K tv when compared to PS5 though (obviously). Shame, because mapping run and crouch to the pro controller back buttons is a game changer for TV play
I remember some discussion a while back (I think it was on the Kit and Krysta podcast) about how it was likely the new Switch would have an OLED screen.
I smugly thought to myself “ha, no way. They’re gonna save that for a future revision. It’s going to be back to LCD”. Hey look, I was right!
Anyway I think the screen looks great. Definitely at least comparable to the Switch OLED and Steam Deck OLED - the VRR and size help. That being said, can’t wait to pick up the revision in a few years
People suggesting different colour boxes for key releases v pure carts are missing just how confusing that would be for regular consumers. Both variants are Switch 2 games. Imagine explaining the difference to a customer.
Anyway this VN is pretty good. I just finished it and I basically echo what @20Andyv01 says. However it does get kind of lost in itself at the end, and the ending wasn't very satisfactory.
There were moments where the lack of art assets really hurt the story. Just a few more backgrounds and art would have really helped the story. Instead there were a lot of plain green backgrounds and closeups of walls where you basically just imagine the action being described.
I'd place it lower than Worldend Syndrome, but only just. They'r both in the same vein and are each worthwhile. The stories of both were good, with interesting characters and similar depictions of japanese folklore. Also I actually appreciated the linearity and helpful flow chart here, as opposed to Worldend Syndrome which basically required you to have a walkthrough open at all times.
That's awesome. This kind of unrelenting protection of some idea they have about their characters is one of the things I like least about Nintendo. It crosses over a bit with Miyamoto's feeling that stories don't matter much in comparison to gameplay. Would be awesome if they loosened up a bit - especially when there's been inconsistent approaches in the past like with the designs in Thousand Year Door.
Eyyy that guy from the Kit and Krysta podcast. Personally I've been done with Joy-Cons for a while - there's a new switch coming that we can't guarantee will work with them, plus I like the hori split pad fit. Still, cool designs for someone out there.
@inkslinger yeah I'm close to finishing the game myself - great little game, awesome atmosphere, but I think I'll be done for good when I've completed the story. The mechanics are starting to get a bit repetitive now that I'm in the final area.
I love the JP version because it became the series' iconic look, but just look at Maya's face on the NA cover. And the judge's dead eyes. This is tough
I bought a backbone to remote play PS5 games on my phone (there's a better client than Sony's own remote play called PSPLay that works pretty well).
Still, the performance is not 'great', so I was actually pretty excited about this Sony device. I'm a bit underwhelmed at the first look, but if they can somehow improve greatly on the performance of other remote play devices, I'm still interested. That's a big if though.
@Not_Soos that'd be the Split Pad Fit/Comfort. I've been using one for my Switch for 6 months and haven't taken it off. Feels really great and definitely recommended if you can take not having gyro/vibration.
It's always funny to read the "the series is based on the concept of "99% science and 1% fantasy" because the very first entry, Chaos;Head, was a bonkers high fantasy adventure about spoiler magical sword wielding teens.
Anyway psyched for this. Have played all the other entries. They're all of varying quality and none touch Steins;Gate, but still.
Even within the scope of the DLC: Pretty annoyed at small missed opportunities like the Hotlantis terminal and the laziness of stuff like the inside of Inkopolis grizzco showing the stair entrance of the Splatsville grizzco.
That being said, I have no doubt that Side Order will be amazing. Octo Expansion is one of my favourite things ever
I feel like the music in Splatoon 3 wasn't quiiite up to the series standard for me, especially after the high of Octo Expansion's OST, but I'll still be day one on that 4 disc collection.
Now if only it could combine play count hours with your other switch... My biggest pet peeve about having two switches is that play timing restarts on each system.
The only thing that worries me is that it seemed to peak quickly - it's been out of most non-JP charts for a while (from my casual observation, could be wrong). Hopefully it has commercial legs like Splatoon 2 and the Off the Hook DLC reignites sales.

Re: Shuten Order - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced, Upgrade For Switch Owners Confirmed
@Lizuka really want a Hundred Line switch 2 patch, though given it's TooKyo games self-released, I'm not holding out too much hope.
I haven't played this, Hundred Line or Rain Code. I agree that Akudama Drive was better than expected though right?

@Jack_Goetz just bought it on Amazon.co.jp thanks to your tip. $30 aud cheaper than physical, $40 cheaper than digital. What a crazy bargain!
