Re: Developers Reportedly Still Struggling To Get Switch 2 Dev Kits

conditionals

There’s also companies who definitely have dev kits who haven’t released S2 optimised versions of brand new S1 games. Like Sega and the new Shinobi game. Something is definitely going on with Nintendo guidelines.

The whole Switch 2 era is starting to stink a bit tbh. Hopefully Nintendo can pull their heads out.

@Ulysses 100% agree, glad you feel the same way because I haven't seen many people talk about it. It's mostly "switch 1 games run amazing on switch 2!" and then I feel like I'm the odd one out when I can't handle the blocky, blurry mess.

This goes for what you said about current releases. Almost every 2025 switch release, from indie to mid-tier developers, isn't optimised for switch 2 resolution. Why would I buy the new Shantae on Switch 2 for the same price as the Steam version when it's just going to look worse?

The downscale idea you suggested is a good shirt term solution, as would be getting them to run in docked mode. But I can see the multiple reasons why Nintendo wouldn't do either.

Ah well. I don't want to complain, I want to love my Switch 2. But it's hard to ignore

I agree with the above about the 1080p screen. So many of my Switch 1 upscaling issues would be solved if they'd stuck with a 720p screen. Ace Attorney SOJ just looks so bad on my Switch 2 screen without a 1080p patch. Meanwhile it looks crisp and clean at 720p on my Steam deck OLED.

I'm really souring on the Switch 2 right now... they just cut too much performance potential. It was fine for Switch 1 and developers can work around it like they did on the OG... but there's limits to how many miracles can be performed. What's going to happen with third party games in 3 years?

The Switch 2 has the Deck beat on specs for now. But what about in a few years when a Steam Deck 2 drops? I used to play all Indies and every third party title I feasibly could on Switch. Now I'm tempted to make all new third party purchases on Steam and basically keep the SW2 as a Splatoon Raiders (and Fortnite) machine.

@Ramouz yep what @Jack_Goetz describes is exactly what I did. It's very easy to create a new account set to Japan (or any other country) and have it as an additional user on your switch. I was a bit worried that virtual game cards might somehow cause an issue but it seems to work perfectly. The only annoyance really is that if you're used to only having one user on your switch you'll now have to select a user every time you open a game/eshop/Nintendo online app.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Switch 2's Screen? Because Some People Certainly Aren't

I remember some discussion a while back (I think it was on the Kit and Krysta podcast) about how it was likely the new Switch would have an OLED screen.

I smugly thought to myself “ha, no way. They’re gonna save that for a future revision. It’s going to be back to LCD”. Hey look, I was right!

Anyway I think the screen looks great. Definitely at least comparable to the Switch OLED and Steam Deck OLED - the VRR and size help. That being said, can’t wait to pick up the revision in a few years

@YWNBAW "woke", garbage commenter.

Anyway this VN is pretty good. I just finished it and I basically echo what @20Andyv01 says. However it does get kind of lost in itself at the end, and the ending wasn't very satisfactory.

There were moments where the lack of art assets really hurt the story. Just a few more backgrounds and art would have really helped the story. Instead there were a lot of plain green backgrounds and closeups of walls where you basically just imagine the action being described.

I'd place it lower than Worldend Syndrome, but only just. They'r both in the same vein and are each worthwhile. The stories of both were good, with interesting characters and similar depictions of japanese folklore. Also I actually appreciated the linearity and helpful flow chart here, as opposed to Worldend Syndrome which basically required you to have a walkthrough open at all times.

Re: New Paper Mario Survey Reportedly Suggests Unique Character Designs Could Make A Return

That's awesome. This kind of unrelenting protection of some idea they have about their characters is one of the things I like least about Nintendo. It crosses over a bit with Miyamoto's feeling that stories don't matter much in comparison to gameplay. Would be awesome if they loosened up a bit - especially when there's been inconsistent approaches in the past like with the designs in Thousand Year Door.

Re: Random: Sony's Upcoming 'Project Q' Is A Little More Wii U Than Switch

I bought a backbone to remote play PS5 games on my phone (there's a better client than Sony's own remote play called PSPLay that works pretty well).

Still, the performance is not 'great', so I was actually pretty excited about this Sony device. I'm a bit underwhelmed at the first look, but if they can somehow improve greatly on the performance of other remote play devices, I'm still interested. That's a big if though.

Even within the scope of the DLC: Pretty annoyed at small missed opportunities like the Hotlantis terminal and the laziness of stuff like the inside of Inkopolis grizzco showing the stair entrance of the Splatsville grizzco.

That being said, I have no doubt that Side Order will be amazing. Octo Expansion is one of my favourite things ever
