I'm (only) 60 hours into Royal but I know enough to proudly declare that Ryuji was robbed here. In the field of annoying male best friend characters in Japanese games/VNs he's like a saint.
Damn I was really hoping they'd add in the four different shades of green for each turtle. It's such a visceral part of my Turtles in Time memories that I've been waiting for it to come to the new game before playing
I really loved this VN… but fast forwarding through scenes multiple times to see the routes and the true end kind of ruined its impact for me. It sounds dumb, but just casually zipping through a scene which initially shocked me retrospectively took away the magic. “Oh here’s the hallway scene… yet AGAIN”. Just not a fan of this route system.
Anyway in the end I’d say it was very good but not close to Steins;Gate as a whole package
BTW this was the vita version. The translation was OK, barring a map section that was untranslated and required a guide. Wonder if they fixed that.
This is one of those games which has been the last entry on the Australian eshop “coming soon” for like 9 months. There’s some sort of trick where they set the release as TBD and allow preorders and it can get free publicity. There’s another one called Thief’s Shelter that’s been there for like a year.
Just last night I had to repeat a very boring Dusk Diver 1 level with terrible platforming sections five times because I kept on making stupid mistakes at the end boss. It was infuriating.
That being said... the world/design/charm is enough that I'm definitely going to finish the game and pick this sequel up. There's something so endearing about it.
@tyranny_life Definitely check out Unsighted! It may fall foul of the 'everything is called a metroidvania' mistake but it has cool combat, exploration and isometric platforming! Plus really great art and atmosphere.
I love the bonkers Uchikoshi responses to the straight-laced questions. He’s such a refreshing personality.
Really looking forward to this. Loved the first game, as well as 999/VLR (as with most post people here, ZTD was a big letdown).
I also hope he and Kodaka can eventually make a game which lives up to the potential of their dream collaboration. Could it be that each of them is too much to cram into one singular product?
Lots of people crapping on Nintendo Minute here, but I enjoyed their banter and it was kind of nice seeing the videos turn up every so often (though, like many it seems, I only watched irregularly). Kit and Krysta were good hosts, and had a really realistic dynamic (which is why so many comments on YouTube were like “they hate each other!”… that’s just how people who are close can be).
One thing though… “and remember, a Nintendo minute is never a minute” never stopped sounding super awkward. The line is undeliverable.
On the Australian eShop this has been at the very end of the 'coming soon' section for about 9 months with a TBD listing. Right there next to Pokemon Arceus and the next Mario+Rabbids. It really feels like they manipulated the system somehow - perhaps just by offering a pre-order with a TBD date is enough to get prime real estate on the eshop.
I'd say Dual Destinies and Justice For All are easily the worst two in the series. Justice For All had the worst cases of the trilogy, and Dual Destinies did very weird things to both Phoenix and Apollo's characters.
Top 3 for me are Apollo Justice, Trials and Tribulations and GAA, which is just awesome. Investigations 2 is great but I didn't finish it because of emulation difficulties.
@Phostachio agreed - I've put about 350 hours into the Switch version (much much more than PS4/5) and it's a very capable and enjoyable experience. You only notice the difference when you go back to a more powerful console, but I've never felt like anything was lacking (for my causal play).
You've got to hope that OW2 will be bolstered by a Switch Pro if and when that ever comes out though. It's not like Blizzard can just say in answer to the question above: "yeah it will be tough to get running on a base Switch but easier on the Pro"
This is really cool for queue times, but it sucks that there’s no cross-progression. Especially when games like Fortnite do it seamlessly across systems.
@duffmmann exactly. The way they work is totally different... a lot of people in the comments seem to be ignoring that simple fact and getting diverted by a general argument about fan made games using assets
Picked up one of the shoeboxes (way better design) at the Nintendo Store in Tokyo this year. They're awesome. As for this stuff here... it's ok. Needs more octoling.
@carlos82 From memory, the opposite is true. Sunshine wasn't really appreciated when it came out (I mean, it was the first 3D Mario since 64). Now the tides have turned and people seem to have a lot of respect for it in retrospect.
@Kalmaro also reading the interview on Eurogamer he did say he was inspired by kids playing ninja with sticks so I guess that's a pass. But still, the Episode 0 designs were cool.
If they wanted less Splatoon comparisons maybe they should have kept the cool designs from the 'Episode 0' short and not turned them into kids for whatever reason.
I love Splatoon but really didn't vibe with the previous/currently localised manga series. This probably won't cut it with me either, but glad to see anything furthering the brand's appeal
The initial reaction is to be upset, but just realise that backers are getting the game at a cheaper price and the DLC. It’s a good deal. And the extra money is mostly being used on the bonus content? Great.
@Wesbert exactly, this guy is Ota. Even down to his feelings about Date.
Also [SPOILERS] I thought it was quite clever that the alternate universe and Naix plots were underplayed. Those would make it so similar to previous Uchikoshi games like Zero Escape - instead it played with your expectations of one of his games.
I’ve been using two switches for a while and it’s actually not hard. The cloud saving works pretty painlessly.
The only thing that really annoys me is that the playtime tracking doesn’t work properly, even though it appears to update your profile it doesn’t properly track. I played wolfenstein Youngblood for 15 hours across the two consoles using the same account/save and my profile has only logged “5 hours or more”. Hate it
Oh man I was really hoping they'd add cloud saves in the final update, as a way for us to secure our data now that the main game has finished winding down. I know I shouldn't be disappointed.

Re: Acclaimed Top-Down Metroidvania 'Unsighted' Is Getting A Physical Release
@tyranny_life it’s a metroidvania to the extent you revisit previously inaccessible areas with new power ups. It’s isometric.
Anyway really cool game. 8/10 for me, sunk 20 hours into it.
Re: Hold It! An Ace Attorney 20th Anniversary Vinyl Box Set Is Up For Pre-Order
Probably the fasted I've ever bought vinyl in my life. Would be nice if it had GAA but oh well. I've loved these soundtracks for years.

tbh I'm excited to watch them do a new project together where they aren't bound by Nintendo's guidelines.

Re: Digital Foundry Explores The Two Sides Of No More Heroes 3

@NinChocolate I just bought Sonic Forces on a whim and beat it in a few days. Pretty fun game actually.

Yes OK I'm a huge AA fan. And am still disgruntled about how little love AA4 gets. It was the best entry IMO.
