Blood Meridian, like most of Cormac's works, is art. I also got on a major western kick after finishing RDR2, my favorite game ever (even got a full sleeve tattoo of one of the side missions!), and a couple other good nonfiction books are "Dreams of El Dorado" and "Blood and Thunder" if you're into the history of western expansion.
Is there a cutesy farm sim generator out there that churns these things out or something? Fair play to those who enjoy them but it feels like the Switch is flooded with these games.
@antisumo TOTK is arguably on track to be the biggest, or most memorable, Switch game ever with one of its two biggest characters. This is another generic farming sim that looks like dozens of other ones that came before it. Naturally the former will get far more attention.
I think it was IGN who claimed that TOTK makes BOTW look like a first draft and that's about the highest praise I can think of and the best way I can describe this game. It's just incredible.
Speedruns are harmless and I'm sure these speedrunners will have a slower side save as well, bit I genuinely do not understand the point of it and especially with a game such as this where one of the core draws of it is the slow pace at which you can play in order to soak everything in. It's so weird to me.
@beegubol We've seen like, 15 minutes total and a good 80 percent of those have been on new abilities which look fresh, exciting and full of possibilty. If you're deeply disappointed that this looks like nothing more than a DLC because you've seen a sliver of the world and think these new abilities are nothing significant, then I don't know what to say.
This is a wild amount of complaining given that all we've been given is ten or so minutes of new features highlights. There could be an entire trove of new things to discover that we have no clue about yet the prevalent argument seems to be that is just more of BOTW.
@Pizzamorg It's not just mad, it's pejoratively generalizing about those people and then having the guts to claim the moral high ground by blocking them even when you receive calm and rational constructive feedback about why that group rated this game a 6 or whatever. I didn't know this game was so off-limits to criticism.
@Ryu_Niiyama That's just trolling, not being a drama queen. But given the many concerns reasonable people on here have pointed out, it's not like a 5-6 is all that dramatic. Technically this game is fine, good even!, but it's far from perfect.
@Ryu_Niiyama Why are we being drama queens if our bar is higher than technically sound? Of course it'll be technically sound given the pedigree of the people making and the game not being all that resource intensive, doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to everything else that makes up the game, right?
I've griped about it in other threads but honestly, probably a 6/10 so far. Battles are okay, a bit on the easier side, but I've found the writing to be horrific, relationships between the characters to be surface-level, the Somnium a mostly empty dud and the story to be forgettable. It still has the Fire Emblem sheen and that's nice, and it's far from an outright bad game, but I feel that it's a massive step down from 3H and that's not even necessarily related to the relationship sim side of things that some disliked. I'm pretty let down with this one.
Happy for the people who made it but the more I play the more I am of the opinion that this really is a pretty average game. The writing is terrible, world is either empty or padded with menial activity and battles are fine but I wouldn't exactly say industry-leading in their quality. It's not a bad game but I was expecting more after 3H.
@AtlanteanMan Padding is exactly the right word. I absolutely loved Three Houses and I want to love this too but I'm some eight hours in and it's just okay so far. Battles are a breeze and nothing to write home about while the characters and dialogue are, frankly, terrible. I'm aware of what type of game this is and for what crowd but everything outside the battles seems shallow and often cringe-worthy. I hope it gets better but right now it's kind of a letdown.

@fromjtov I'm about 10-11 hours in? Something like that and yep, I'll finish it for sure.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Fire Emblem Engage?
@Ryu_Niiyama Fair enough, though I still have no idea how a score of 6/10 makes someone a drama queen. That's not hyperbole whatsoever.
