Re: Random: Mexican Speedrunner Completes Turbo Tunnel In Battletoads With Bag Over His Head

bolt05

I don't think this is that hard, i did most of it as a kid with my eyes shut, when you replay those levels over and over enough times you can basically see it with your eyes shut and hit up and down as required, not really very hard if you have played that level several hundred times. Its just muscle memory.

And seriously, this level of the game is level 3, wait til you get to the unicycle things and the snake levels later on... those are hard, more so in 2 player when your brother keeps punching you off the snake constantly.

Re: Review: The Lost Child (Switch)

@nhSnork i cant get into EO, i thought i really would but i found the mapping very tedious and the dungeons very dull, its why i have not got persona q yet. Funnily though i dont mind random encounters in jrpgs, unless their frequency is absolutely maddening. Maybe i just dont like first person dungeon crawlers, i played the heck out of swords and serpents on NES as a kid and i guess that did it for me, the genre has barely innovated since then if you look past graphics. I had to map on graph paper in the nes days! No stylus touch screen then!
I recently started playing srpgs again and im on an imageepoch binge with luminous arc right now. But Maybe i should revisit EO one day, i started out with the fafnir knight i think its no. 4 or maybe 5. I thought the story was pretty weak though and didnt like the talking portraits in the town, the whole experience just feels flat to me. Maybe theres a better EO game?

Rpgs of all stlpes are generally my favourite genre though. Looking forward to octopath and ys viii.

Re: US Research Analyst Believes Gaming Could Become 100% Digital By 2022

bolt05

Digital yeah probably, but streaming, nope. Streaming is 20-30 years away, most countries, including the US and Australia dont have the average bandwidth for it. There was an article this week on Kotaku about this.

Sadly I have pondered that gamestop/EBGames is doomed for a long while. Even Kmart in Australia stopped selling games about 2 years ago, Target has massively reduced, and Big W has reduced too, they only get the first party nintendo games in for switch. The general retailers lose too much having to discount games constantly to clear dead stock, most kids are digital downloading nowadays.

Sadly I agree the brick and mortar physical sales days are numbered. I dont like this scary new future.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?

bolt05

I am playing Luminous Arc 1, maybe have a look at 2 (DS) they just arrived from ebay and the UK on Friday so dying to check them out.
Also playing Solatorobo (DS) and Breath of Fire - all on my 3DS system! Wish Nintendo would get Gaia and some more SNES rpgs onto the portable.

I also found a copy of Monster Tale (DS) brand new at an obscure manga/anime store in my home town for a dirt cheap price, this game is a superb Metroidvania title - such a pity its gone dark on the 3ds remake, but boy am I glad I stumbled across this absolute gem of a game in the store!!

Re: Review: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

bolt05

@RealDanStrauss i tries to get into xeniblade after reading old wii reviews, so i bought it on 3ds and the guy in ebgames said, oh you like this, i cant play it the combat is so slow.

I said, are you joking this game is a jrpg hit.. lasted about an hour before i took the game back. Promptly skipped the wii u xenoblade. And never even considered 2 on switch. People who can play xenoblade games have more patience and time than i.

Re: Octopath Traveler Won't Receive DLC According To The Game's Producer

bolt05

@Silly_G i have bought $0 worth of dlc on switch like you. I refuse to get involved in incremental purchasing. I didnt even buy any dlc for fire emblem awakening on 3ds and i love that game!

Dlc is almost as poisonous to gamers as microtransactions, i say almost because there have been rare examples of good dlc in the past. Mario kart 8 on wii u was not one of them and that has turned me off of dlc for a long long time.

Re: A New Animal Crossing-Themed 2DS XL Is Coming To Europe Next Month

bolt05

@Anti-Matter I want Code of Princess and Lord of Magna Maiden Heaven in physical, but PAL territories didn't get them.

Lol 3DS should have been region free, at least switch is!!

Another issue is how rare and expensive some games that are relatively cheap in the US because of the market size, trying to get Tales of the Abyss here is not going for less than $50-$60 on EBAY from the UK, there's no copies in AUS and its not on the eshop. Same for Persona Q, except that one is more like $100 plus for a game <1 yr old! It is on the eshop but I want physical!

Re: Review: Fortnite (Switch eShop)

bolt05

@Silly_G I edited my post above, there is no retail version. You can DL free on PC right now. Everything that is paid for in the game is just for cosmetics or to earn more cosmetics as rewards, no other difference. There really aren't 'versions' just paying for pixels.

I just realised EBGames is selling discs. This is for people who cant download it for some strange reason since its online only anyway. Dont buy it. Its exactly the same free game.

Re: Review: Fortnite (Switch eShop)

bolt05

@Silly_G Ah its free to play across all platforms. Only the "save the world" PVE add-on is paid for currently on platforms other than Switch, this add-on is not available on switch.

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Has Over 700 Games

bolt05

@River3636 You mean Shining Resonance Refrain? Its a port of a JP only PS3 game, its not really my style of rpg probably going to skip that one. Its very... Anime. But thanks for mentioning it anyway.

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Has Over 700 Games

bolt05

Sensationalist headling means nothing - sensationally.

The 500 games nobody bought doesn't exactly count. Minus the mobile ports... Minus the wii u ports... Minus every game that can be bought cheaper on other platforms and/or is already 2+ years old... there's really not 700 games there.

Re: Fortnite On Nintendo Switch Doesn't Have Save The World Mode

bolt05

I just tried this game and it was very confusing and ultimately boring. One of the suggestions in the news article that popped up after i downloaded it suggested hiding in the bushes to get exp and live longer in battles... Probably not a game i'm going to enjoy if that's their formal strategic advice for new players...

Re: Ubisoft CEO Believes The Next Generation Of Consoles Will Be The Last

bolt05

I want to say absolute garbage, but if we think far enough ahead I'd be willing to bet my grand kids will be streaming Gameflix games and nintendo and sony will just be publishers. Whether this streaming service monopolises or not I'd doubt that but possible.

I hope I'm wrong because I like my physical game collection.

Then there's always the possibility of a third party starting up a console and cartridge based system and challenging the gameflix, because lets be honest, 90% of the shows on netflix are pretty c-grade, its not like they dont and wont continue to have challengers from rival services and indie film makers. games are the same.

If we look at books and printed media however... thats going the way of the dodo and nobody thought it would when e-readers first appeared.

Fear the future.

Re: An Official Octopath Traveler Merchandise Range Is Now Available To Pre-Order

bolt05

Can't wait! But I'm not one for expensive or otherwise merch unless it's a game I'm incredibly fond of. With a wife and 2 kids I don't get spare cash enough these days, have to settle for the odd game, and this is the definitely the odd game I'm going to get, not negotiable!

I'm glad it isn't an easy game as well, I'm dying for a decent rpg to sink my teeth into. And then Ys VIII is coming in July!! Woohoo

Re: Nintendo's Share Value Plunges Amid Reports That 'Quality Of Life' Project Is Dead

bolt05

Well im pretty much not buying either 'lets go' game, and I never owned a wii during its hay-day (I do now) so i never cared for wii fit etc. Im not sure the Nintendo QoL programme was really worth much, well not to me but I suppose they must have profited from it somewhat during the wii era?

As far as 'lets go' they're probably 18 months too late to capture the fad, Pokemon Go is dead now. Maybe kids with a switch already will buy it, but its a massive entry fee to buy a switch for just lets go evee/pikachu, I cant see this being very big in Australia - I don't see switches flying off the shelf. In Japan... definitely.

So QoL programme, dead or alive... meh/ whatever. Maybe they can spend those resources localising mother 3 and secret of mana trilogy? Make it an anthology and throw sword of mana and the 2 DS games in there as well, Now that's Quality of Life... or Mana?
