The NES classic, Battletoads, is notorious for being a tough game. Despite this, that hasn’t stopped Piotr Delgado “The Mexican Runner” Kusielczuk from becoming an expert at it.
He’s previously completed the game with one hand, and for this particular run, his goal was to complete the legendary turbo tunnel with a bag over his head. Reliant on audio cues and his memory, the seemingly impossible feat was achieved in a single attempt live at the European Speedrunner Assembly marathon.

If you’ve ever played this level or game before, you’ll know just how ruthless it can be. Take a look at the video above, but just be aware there's some explicit language at the four-minute mark.

Super impressive! I remember how frustrating this level is!
When I played this game on Rare Replay I can’t tell you how many times I used the rewind and save states to pass this stage lol. Impressive for that guy to do that.
Wow this made us non-blinded players feel like noobs now.
I can't even get past it at all! How?
That was ridiculous!
Maybe I'll ask him to nab the achievement on Rare Replay for me. XD
I'm currently standing in Subway ordering a Meatball Marinara when I read that headline and burst out laughing. The girl behind the counter gave me a strange look. I'd love to explain what's so funny but being Thai and fairly young I doubt she'd understand.
TMR was also the first person to complete all 714 NES games.
Even Miracle Piano Training System.
I remember it took my friend and I a whole summer of playing Battletoads to get pass the turbo tunnel when we were kids.
Old! Brazilian Mario Cravinhos already did it years ago.
Just for the record: I never ever got past this stage...
He plays by sense of smell.
What a wizard.
The header image was from the SNES game Battlemaniacs. I could never for the life of me figure out how to do / control ANYTHING in the final level on those rails. I just got killed within the first few seconds by the chasing enemy. Lost all my lives! Think I still have the game.
Some people have a level of dedication that surpasses us mortals. Some people...
No mames!
I remember reading this game was really tough and especially this level. But I have Battletoads in Ragnarok's World on Game Boy, which is the original Battletoads but on the handheld, and I beat this level when I was a child.
Now in Rare Replay I'm unable to do the same with the NES version included, let alone the Beyond the Impossible achievement.
I guess the Game Boy version was modified to be less difficult.
Now for an actual challenge, do it with a plastic bag.
That will add a sense of urgency to it!
Why is he called "The Mexican runner" when his name is clearly Polish?
Is it true that Poland is the Mexico of Europe?
I don't think this is that hard, i did most of it as a kid with my eyes shut, when you replay those levels over and over enough times you can basically see it with your eyes shut and hit up and down as required, not really very hard if you have played that level several hundred times. Its just muscle memory.
And seriously, this level of the game is level 3, wait til you get to the unicycle things and the snake levels later on... those are hard, more so in 2 player when your brother keeps punching you off the snake constantly.
I'm pretty sure I could have done that back in the day. I mean I could beat it pretty confidently after a lot of practice, and its not like the level gives you enough time to respond to visual cues, its all muscle memory.
That was a long time ago, of course.
@Moroboshi876 I too had the gameboy version as a kid but never had the nes version and I only passed that level once.
Impressive. I didn’t get consistently decent at this level until I found my technique of staring directly at the center or top of the television screen, allow my eyes to lose focus, and play the section using peripheral vision. Not sure why it helped, but it did. I did the same thing with Tyson in Punch Out
@bolt05 - The game gets truly difficult after the turbo tunnel. It’s tough just to clear the tunnel, so I don’t want to take away from this guy’s accomplishment; but I had similar thoughts as you. If you have this section memorized to that degree, it’s probably a bit easier to play it blind with no distractions.
Didn't he already do this at one of the GDQ events or something?
Practice makes perfect, even with your eyes open!
@SmaggTheSmug looking at his name, and assuming they put the nickname in the wrong spot, it would seem his father is Mexican (Delgado) and his mother is European (Kusielczuk).
Mexicans carry two last names, the first is the father's, and the second is the mother's. This usually confuses some foreign people from countries were only the father's last name is kept.
Speedrunning always +1 😊
I struggled with that level so many times I can hum the BGM on command.
