If you're feeling ready for the ultimate selection of Switch hardware bundles, you're definitely in luck today. Nintendo has now listed three awesome Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch bundles on the Nintendo Official UK Store.
The new bundles are available to pre-order right now, ready to be shipped to you for the game's release date of 7th December. Called the 'Nintendo Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Edition Pack', each of the three bundles feature the recently revealed Smash-themed dock and Joy-Con, as well as that gorgeous steelbook case.
You can step things up a notch with the Mario and Link special editions, however, each coming with everything mentioned above, a 'hard pouch' for your Switch console, and a GameCube controller featuring your chosen star. Other accessories are live, too, such as the Smash Bros. Ultimate Pro Controller, and the GameCube controller adapter, so you should be able to find absolutely everything you need.

It still bothers me that one company, Nintenod, has an online store in the UK but no physical store, and a physical store in the US but no online. Maybe the UK doesn't warrant a store, though I'm betting one around Trafalgar Square in London would always be crowded with tourists, but online in the US would be nice, it's a big country and some people are 3,000 miles away from that store.
We already have a Switch, 2 extra joycon, and a faux wired Pro, so just the game for us. Pre-ordered on Amazon while Prime discount was still a thing. Going to be EXTREMELY tough getting the kids to wait until Christmas morning to play it, glad it's only 2 weeks. This and Pokemon under the tree, 1 for each.
Nintendo, my wallet is empty and I’ve come to bargain.
Have all four that have released so far but can't get near to affording another four in one go....
These are all kind of meh in my opinion. Might go for the pro controller, but I don't know
All I want is the dock, at a reasonable price please!
@BladedKnight Agreed. The only special edition that looked nice was the Splatoon one.
@rjejr ...omg you're right I just realized that. Classic Nintendo. I've wanted a US nintendo online store for some time now. However I sort of realized it would probably suck though. Compare the pokemon center store for japan vs. USA and you realize how much cool stuff just isn't sold in the US store.
It looks so plain
@BladedKnight 100% AGREE. These are the worst special editions ever.
@hirokun Pokemon stores in Japan are like pizza stores in the US.
Am I in the minority when I say that I actually like the Smash edition design? I wasn't on board with the Joy-cons at first, but their simple design has grown on me.
Now to figure out if I want it or if I should wait a bit longer for something even better to come along....
@rjejr They have an Online Store in the US. It's, for the sake of a plug,
store.nintendo.com, and it's in the US.
@YoshiAngemon Well what do you know. Not alot on there compared to what's in the store, but it is still technically an online store so I stand corrected.
Took me 4 or 5 minutes to find it on line so it's a good thing you sent me that link. At the bottom of the main page under Ninteod NY and under Support Quick Links. They spent as much time making the store as hiding the store entrance. No muggles allowed or something.
But at least I can shut up about that now, scratched off the list. I'll have to be more focused and complain the Nintendo NY store doesn't let your order online. From their FAQ:
Can I purchase items online or over the phone?
Currently, we do not offer online or phone orders. We would love for you to visit us in person and hope to see you soon.
@DarthNocturnal yea, i want those
Pretty lackluster design, looks like they got a unpaid intern that was leaving to do these on his/ her lunch break
Hmm... I actually like the design. :/
@Tyranexx - I also think the design is nice, but regardless of that; $40 over standard cost with a game, GC controller (not a major thing for me, but still nice), a carrying case, and the steelbook is a really nice package. $20 off the retail price of Smash, assuming you would purchase it anyways, is kind of worth it alone if you’ve been planning to get a Switch, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
That zelda gamecube controller looks sweet. It's definitely one i'll pick up at launch.
It would be cool if they could make a very basic Game & Watch version of Smash and bundle that with the Ultimate Bundle.
@NewAdvent: They do look slightly different. I wanna agree with you, and say it's the angle of the image, though it may not be.
@Everyone_Else: These look like a nice way to get a NS, and Smash in 1 package. I do, however, consider the possibility how that steelbook will hold up to heat from the NS, if it will warp, or anything, even if just slightly.
@bimmy-lee: It's definitely something to contemplate!
Edit: Though I just truly read the article after skimming it before....I didn't realize these were more for the UK. They definitely beat the Smash bundle up for preorder here.
@Tyranexx - Ha, and I just realized after reading your comment that those aren’t dollar signs. Those beat the US bundle by a mile. I guess Nintendo just knows we’re buying regardless of a special offer. I’m sure they’ll have a worthwhile bundle at some point. Just in my experience, I was able to buy more games when I got my Switch by not spending on a pro controller. I’ve actually really enjoyed the joy con in the grip (I mostly play docked), and the directional buttons on the left haven’t bothered me a bit. I actually kind of like them.
These special editions are pretty ugly in my opinion.
@bimmy-lee: It seems they do! As for the joy-cons, I'm willing to give them a good try before deciding if I want the pro controller; truth be told, I possibly never would have gotten one for my Wii U if the battery life of the Gamepad wasn't so abysmal.
@Tyranexx - The battery was sooo bad. I rarely even tried to play without the charger. The moment I got comfortable, that stupid red light would come on. I played the entire generation plus another year after Switch released solely on the gamepad with the stock battery. Pretty sure I deserve some kind of award for stubbornness. Hope you find a nice deal when you do get your Switch.
I bet most of us here if we put in effort could do our own special editions that far outrank this
@Funky_Kong @flashmanharry @ryancraddock and everyone else, these are USB GameCube controllers, I felt the need to create an account just to inform people (long time reader here but not much for joining comments sections) as I too was interested in the Zelda controller but I looked it up and unfortunately these won't work on my GameCube
@Funky_Kong no problem, I've got a couple of the smash special edition GC pads on order since I lost my purple player 2 pad over a decade ago and I always seem to miss out when they release new ones. I'm not majorly keen on the design, but at least functionally they should last a while should my black pad or wavebird decide to give out in the future!
@bimmy-lee: Thanks! At this point, I half wonder if I shouldn't just wait for a revision, but I know I'll likely cave within a few months. There are a few reasons why I've been waiting....Other big purchases and backlog mostly.
What if i want the controllers and game but without another switch?
It should be noted that the Mario and Zelda ones are not actual Gamecube controllers.
They are actually "Hori Battle Pads". They are made to be very similar to GC controllers, but they are not exactly the same. Along with a slightly different shape, they have very different shoulder buttons, and additional buttons for the plus, minus, and Home buttons among others. They connect via USB, but not through the GC controller adapter, and I don't believe they have rumble like normal ones do.
Edit: Someone beat me to it.
Like others have said, these controllers are not actually made by Nintendo, they're made by Hori and you should be able to buy them separately.
@rjejr and then they read your comment here and christmas surprise gone. LMAO
Both the product pages for the Zelda and Mario branded pads list the pads in the description but there is no mention of them in the box contents further down the page. Is this because they are not actually in the box?
@rjejr - tempted to do the very same thing with our two oldest. One Pokemon and one Smash...
@gimmi_c cheers for the update. Never noticed that on the first inspection. I suppose i'll just have to invest in a smash gc controller instead.
Why oh why are those cube controllers not wireless? Nintendo make new wavebirds!
@BladedKnight 100% they used to do so many cool things with the older systems. Give us multiple colors, transparent systems. Screen printing some junk on the dock and calling it special doesn’t really do it for me.
This is such a stupid "bundle". They could have at least released it with the game on its release date, preferably with the cartridge as the game will undoubtedly occupy most of the console's internal storage (that is, if the entirety of the game will even fit on the console's internal storage).
Fortunately it comes with a download code (instead of being pre-installed), so one can just sell it.
@Alucard83 "christmas surprise gone"
We got the Switch SMO bundle for Christmas, last year, opened it the day it launched, early October I think. My kids are teenagers, there's no longer any such thing as a Christmas surprise. Well maybe a keyring in their stocking, some junk like that, but the real gifts are all on the list. Teens are boring at Christmas, no real excitement at all, just the anticipation of getting to play a game they'll know was hiding in the house somewhere for 2 months.
