As a long time Zelda fan, I'm really happy with the success they've had with BOTW and TOTK. Just beat TOTK a few weeks ago, and it was probably my favorite moment in my long, storied time as a gamer. Currently enjoying Starfield on my Series S, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I think it's better than all the hate it's getting online. It scratches that Bethesda itch for fans of their games.
Honestly, with the rumors of a new Switch next year, I wasn’t expecting too much. Sad that the 3D Zelda HD editions are still MIA though. I thought maybe they would throw us that bone.
I still need to find about 12 shrines, and a bunch of light roots before I go fight the final boss. I'm just enjoying the side quests right now, but I'm feeling the crunch with Starfield coming out in a few weeks. Poor Pikmin has taken a backseat to Zelda in the meantime.
I think if the new Metroid is as good as the first Prime, it should be a launch title. People will be more willing to try it out with a new system in hand (and fewer games available). I really believe the Metroid franchise can be as big as Zelda and Mario (especially if it’s a launch game). For the life of me, I can’t understand why it’s not more popular yet.
Years ago, I received a copy of the original Mario+Rabbids game for my birthday. It was factory sealed and everything. When I opened it, no cartridge. It was ordered from Amazon, so a new copy was sent out, and the replacement did indeed have a cartridge.
Everything from Gamecube on up I have on shelves. NES through N64 are in storage in a bedroom closet. TBH, I never really considered displaying them, but that would be pretty cool.
I bought the Switch version shortly after it launched, hoping it would scratch that Zelda itch (it didn’t). It was a decent enough game, but I got bored with it after a few weeks. I’m surprised at the number of internet comments I’ve seen that said it was better than BOTW. I STRONGLY disagree, but different strokes….
I have it preordered, but I’m still so invested in TOTK, I’m not sure if I can drop it to play Pikmin. Gotta have both wrapped up for Starfield this year too. What a great time to be a gamer.
I just want gray. Seems like Nintendo have discontinued those though, as they've not been available on their website for months. I'm tempted to buy the custom ones from GameTraderZero but the cost has kept me from taking the plunge thus far.
I personally loved pointer controls for shooters, and thought it was particularly well done on M.A.G. on the PS3 using the Move controller. It was a nice way to even the odds for people (like myself) who aren’t particularly good at shooters. I wish more developers would introduce motion controls like Splatoon which seems like a nice middle ground between pointer and dual stick controls.
I'm most excited for a new 2D Mario, but I'm weirdly happy (for nostalgic reasons) for the Metal Gear collection. The first game I ever bought for the NES was the original Metal Gear after seeing it advertised in a G.I. Joe comic, thus beginning my long love of gaming. I know it's supposed to be inferior to the MSX2 version, but I'm really itching to return to that game after not playing it in years. TBH, I don't really care much for the franchise anymore, but those old 8 bit games are classics to me.
Just beat my third temple/dungeon and I’m taking my sweet time with it. Gonna be 5-6 years until the next one, so no need to rush. I’m planning on buying Pikmin 4, Starfield, and Spider-Man this year, and those (along with TOTK) should keep me busy for quite some time.
Same. It took me a few days to get into TOTK. Part of the issue is that there is SO much to do. I'd set off to do something, and stumble upon a cave, or something else that caught my eye. There's this sense of dread that if I don't check out that cave, I may never be back again to see what was in it. I just spent my entire play time last night checking out the noise at Lookout Landing. I'm learning to appreciate TOTK for what it is, but it does feel a bit overwhelming sometimes.
I really want to get back into NMS on Switch, but with Zelda, Pikmin, and Starfield I just don’t know if it will happen anytime soon. It’s just a great game to chill out and enjoy.
For me, it was running into a classic enemy (from way back in the original game) in a cave in the starting area. It put a big smile on my face (and then I died). I’m barely off the Sky Island, and already I’ve seen quite a few new baddies.
I honestly got a little choked up when the Nintendo logo popped up on the screen with the 8 bit brothers under it. Nintendo has brought me a lot of joy throughout the years, and it just made me happy that these characters I’ve loved since childhood now seem to be on top of the world. It just feels like a little bit of a vindication for those of us who’ve stuck with Nintendo through the good times and the bad.
I’m not sure why, but Pikmin is one of those franchises that I forget about when suggesting Nintendo games. Pikmin 3 is such a joy to play on Switch. I’m looking forward to playing later this year, but I might still be heavily invested in TOTK when Pikmin releases.
This makes me feel better about canceling my PSVR2 preorder. I’ve just had too many big purchases lately, so I decided to postpone that one, and Nintendo saves the day with a Metroid Prime drop. I’ll be playing Minish Cap until my copy of Metroid arrives in a couple weeks.
@metroidprimed yeah, I noticed that as well. Gotta believe Amazon got that incorrect. I was hoping for all three Primes, but I doubt I’d finish them all before TOTK. Looking forward to playing this in the dark with headphones and being teleported back to 2002.
I saved up my grass cutting money and bought an NES and Metal Gear in September of 1988, after seeing the game advertised in G.I.Joe comics. That was the start of my love of gaming. At Christmas I got Zelda, Punch Out, Contra, Double Dragon, and Excitebike. I’d love to go back and experience those days for just a little bit. It was such a magical time.
I really enjoyed this game but (like many others it seems) I never ended up beating it. I personally don't mind a lesser difficulty if it's a fun experience. Elden Ring and Metroid Dread have cured me of any desire for punishingly difficult games.
Yeah, Nintendo has completely changed how I game (for the most part). I was never a handheld gamer, but there’s just something about the convenience of getting a few rounds of Splatoon in while I’m lying in bed. I love my PS5 and Xbox, but I’ve no doubt that I game most on my Switch just for this reason.
Back in the day, I remember I was so excited to finally have a Spider-Man game to play on my SNES. I found it to be mostly disappointing though, and I never could beat that level with the Juggernaut.
I appreciate that they brought Skyrim to the Switch a few years ago, and I had a lot of fun returning to that world, but I wish they’d opt for giving us something from the Fallout franchise instead of more Skyrim.
Definitely want to revisit this again. I was playing it a few months ago on PS5, but that’s pretty much become my Elden Ring box lately. Portable NMS would definitely help me put some hours into it.
The two Subnautica games were my most played Switch games (along with Skyward Sword) last year. These quickly became some of my favorite games of all time. Once I built my first Seamoth, I was hooked. Such a phenomenal series.
Well hopefully Starfield isn’t delayed. I was a little concerned having to split time between BOTW 2 and Bethesda’s next behemoth, but this will give me a little time to enjoy both. Heck, I might even get to the second castle in Elden Ring before then as well!
Rookie mode would have been welcome for this busy dad with slowing reflexes a month ago! I’m already at the final boss (after many, many nerve wracking fights). Back in the day I could beat Mike Tyson, Double Dragon, Contra (without dying) and the original Zelda (also without dying) and this game almost made me rage quit, lol.
The nightmare scenario would be Google/FB/Apple buying up these developers and making them exclusive to their platforms, so I understand what he's saying. What Microsoft will do remains to be seen. I still have a shiny new PS5 in my entertainment center that I WON'T be able to play Starfield on. If they were truly making a platform agnostic service, they'd be putting their games on everything that can play them.
When I looked at my play stats from the past year, the game I put the most time into was Subnautica (followed by Skyward Sword, and Subnautica: Below Zero). It was a little rough at times (daily crashes), but I was hooked. It was definitely one of those games that I knew very little about, but once you are able to start building, it becomes a completely different game. One of my favorites of all time.
@AmplifyMJ yeah, I agree to some extent. Certainly Nintendo’s servers will be getting majorly slammed with the success of the Switch, but I don’t recall ever having an issue with Sony or Apple devices on Christmas morning (beyond the usual massive game updates). I love Nintendo, but sometimes I think we as Nintendo fans expect less of them.
Ah, the joys of being a Nintendo fan…. The busiest week of the year, and now I have to try to squeeze in an update for the Switch OLED’s we bought as Christmas gifts. Not happening…
My preorder didn’t change (2nd quarter 2022) so I’m assuming it’s just moved from April to June. I’m still not even sure if I want it. I just landed a PS5 direct from Sony, so I honestly wonder if I’ll really play it much. There is that small issue of Starfield not being available on the Switch or PS5 however…
I hope it’s true, and that nothing will change with Unknown Worlds. Both Subnautica games were a joy to play, and it quickly became one of my favorite franchises. Just an incredible sense of exploration (and dread) once you are able to dive deeper.
@Jmjfrank you and me both! I canceled my preorder so I could play it for Christmas. I’m still a kid at heart playing my new Nintendo games on Christmas morning. Gonna play some Outer Worlds DLC and NES/SNES classics to tide me over.
I’d love to get my hands on a PS5 at some point, but I’m in no hurry until some more of their franchises are available. I absolutely love the portability of the Switch. I’ll buy multi platform games on the Switch just for the portability. It’s like MP3’s being worse quality than a CD, but their convenience makes them most people’s choice.
@kevin74 my first game on the NES was Metal Gear. I saw an advertisement for it in a G.I. Joe comic, so I saved up my grass cutting money and bought the game and console. Truly a unique game for the time. I wish Konami would bring a collection to the Switch.
I really enjoyed this game on Switch. I know it’s not as pretty as the other versions, but portability is high on my priority list. Glad to see the remaining DLC will be out soon.
I appreciate the Subnautica love, and I had a blast playing it on the Switch (buggy as it was), but there is no way in heck I would vacation anywhere there’s a chance of running into a Reaper Leviathan.
I’d love a Zelda-like to captivate me the same way as an actual Zelda game, but so far I’ve not been impressed with the ones I’ve tried. I’ll probably give this one a try if the reviews are good and I need something to tide me over between Nintendo’s releases.
