Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart And Zelda Hang Tight As Starfield Drops Back Down To Earth

As a long time Zelda fan, I'm really happy with the success they've had with BOTW and TOTK. Just beat TOTK a few weeks ago, and it was probably my favorite moment in my long, storied time as a gamer. Currently enjoying Starfield on my Series S, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I think it's better than all the hate it's getting online. It scratches that Bethesda itch for fans of their games.

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo IP Should 'Switch 2' Launch With?

badmotorfinger74

I think if the new Metroid is as good as the first Prime, it should be a launch title. People will be more willing to try it out with a new system in hand (and fewer games available). I really believe the Metroid franchise can be as big as Zelda and Mario (especially if it’s a launch game). For the life of me, I can’t understand why it’s not more popular yet.

I personally loved pointer controls for shooters, and thought it was particularly well done on M.A.G. on the PS3 using the Move controller. It was a nice way to even the odds for people (like myself) who aren’t particularly good at shooters. I wish more developers would introduce motion controls like Splatoon which seems like a nice middle ground between pointer and dual stick controls.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

I'm most excited for a new 2D Mario, but I'm weirdly happy (for nostalgic reasons) for the Metal Gear collection. The first game I ever bought for the NES was the original Metal Gear after seeing it advertised in a G.I. Joe comic, thus beginning my long love of gaming. I know it's supposed to be inferior to the MSX2 version, but I'm really itching to return to that game after not playing it in years. TBH, I don't really care much for the franchise anymore, but those old 8 bit games are classics to me.

Same. It took me a few days to get into TOTK. Part of the issue is that there is SO much to do. I'd set off to do something, and stumble upon a cave, or something else that caught my eye. There's this sense of dread that if I don't check out that cave, I may never be back again to see what was in it. I just spent my entire play time last night checking out the noise at Lookout Landing. I'm learning to appreciate TOTK for what it is, but it does feel a bit overwhelming sometimes.

Re: Talking Point: The Super Mario Bros. Movie - What Are Your Favourite Moments?

badmotorfinger74

I honestly got a little choked up when the Nintendo logo popped up on the screen with the 8 bit brothers under it. Nintendo has brought me a lot of joy throughout the years, and it just made me happy that these characters I’ve loved since childhood now seem to be on top of the world. It just feels like a little bit of a vindication for those of us who’ve stuck with Nintendo through the good times and the bad.

Re: Where To Buy Metroid Prime Remastered On Switch

badmotorfinger74

@metroidprimed yeah, I noticed that as well. Gotta believe Amazon got that incorrect. I was hoping for all three Primes, but I doubt I’d finish them all before TOTK. Looking forward to playing this in the dark with headphones and being teleported back to 2002.

Re: Anniversary: Metal Gear Sneaked Its Way Onto The NES 35 Years Ago

badmotorfinger74

I saved up my grass cutting money and bought an NES and Metal Gear in September of 1988, after seeing the game advertised in G.I.Joe comics. That was the start of my love of gaming. At Christmas I got Zelda, Punch Out, Contra, Double Dragon, and Excitebike. I’d love to go back and experience those days for just a little bit. It was such a magical time.

Re: Xbox Boss "Trusts" Nintendo To Not Do Anything That Would Harm The Games Industry

badmotorfinger74

The nightmare scenario would be Google/FB/Apple buying up these developers and making them exclusive to their platforms, so I understand what he's saying. What Microsoft will do remains to be seen. I still have a shiny new PS5 in my entertainment center that I WON'T be able to play Starfield on. If they were truly making a platform agnostic service, they'd be putting their games on everything that can play them.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Ports Of 2021

badmotorfinger74

When I looked at my play stats from the past year, the game I put the most time into was Subnautica (followed by Skyward Sword, and Subnautica: Below Zero). It was a little rough at times (daily crashes), but I was hooked. It was definitely one of those games that I knew very little about, but once you are able to start building, it becomes a completely different game. One of my favorites of all time.

Re: Nintendo Advises New Switch Owners To Complete Setup Before Christmas

badmotorfinger74

@AmplifyMJ yeah, I agree to some extent. Certainly Nintendo’s servers will be getting majorly slammed with the success of the Switch, but I don’t recall ever having an issue with Sony or Apple devices on Christmas morning (beyond the usual massive game updates). I love Nintendo, but sometimes I think we as Nintendo fans expect less of them.

Re: Talking Point: Switch Vs. PS5 And Xbox - Nintendo Preps For The Holidays With A New SKU And European Price Cut

badmotorfinger74

I’d love to get my hands on a PS5 at some point, but I’m in no hurry until some more of their franchises are available. I absolutely love the portability of the Switch. I’ll buy multi platform games on the Switch just for the portability. It’s like MP3’s being worse quality than a CD, but their convenience makes them most people’s choice.
