Subnautica developer Unknown Worlds has revealed that a new game in the underwater survival exploration series is in "early development". (Thanks for the tip, solarwolf!)

In a job listing posted last night for the studio, it confirmed the team is looking for a Senior Narrative Designer to "help shape the next game in the Subnautica universe!" The last Subnautica game, Subnautica: Below Zero, first came out in 2019 but swim over to Switch until last year along with the first game.

The job description, linked within the Tweet, seems to be more than just breaking into the waters, as you'll be able to make your own stamp in the Subnautica world:

"Unknown Worlds is seeking a Senior Narrative Designer to join the team working on the next game in the Subnautica universe. This person will collaborate closely with the team to tell compelling, dramatic stories in the context of the game experience, while also defining the history and lore of a new science fiction world and its alien inhabitants. This person has a unique opportunity to join the team early in development and help establish the narrative direction for a beloved franchise."

Late last year, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) owner Krafton acquired Unknown Worlds, however the studio has continued to operate independently.

There were almost five years between the first two Subnautica games, so we're likely a ways off from seeing this one, but this is still exciting news for fans of this unique series.
