The Switch eShop has a decent range of sports games, including varied options for NFL / American Football enthusiasts. Another that is targeting a release in Q1 2022 is Retro Bowl from New Star Games, which will be looking to continue the outstanding momentum it's achieved on mobile for both iOS and Android platforms.

At the time of writing it's the number one free-to-play game on iOS in the US, for example, achieving viral success with young players and on TikTok in particular. It takes inspiration from Tecmo Bowl and mixes in a surprising amount of management depth alongside matches; you both try to build up your franchise as a GM / coach and play the games.

Retro Bowl is the perfect game for the armchair quarterback to finally prove a point. Presented in a glorious retro style, the game has simple roster management, including hiring, firing and training players, press duties and the handling of fragile egos, while on the field you get to call the shots and take direct control over the players in key attacking moments in the game. The player takes over a team and has the ultimate aim of winning the "Retro Bowl" and the satisfaction of shaping a world beating team.

New Star Games has confirmed that it'll be a 'premium' title on Switch and feels that Nintendo's system will be an ideal platform. Simon Read, the game's creator and owner of the studio, has shared the following comments with us.

We are very excited to see a Switch version of Retro Bowl. The NES was of course home of the legendary Tecmo Bowl, from which Retro Bowl was inspired, so the Switch would be the perfect platform for our game to make its console debut.

Of course if you want to see what the game is all about in the meantime you can give it a whirl on mobile, or you can try out the official browser version on Poki.

Let us know what you think of Retro Bowl in the comments; do you think it'll be a good fit for Switch?
