No Man's Sky, Hello Games' ambitious space epic, has finally secured a release date for the Switch. The good news is you won't be waiting too long either, as it will be landing both physically and digitally on October 7th, 2022.
Originally debuting on the PS4 back in 2016, the game was met with decidedly mixed reception thanks to a number of shortcomings and some bold promises from the developer that failed to come to fruition. In the years since, however, its overall standing has been given a major boost thanks to multiple expansions and improvements.
It looks like those expansions will also be making their way to the Switch version too, including Foundation, Pathfinder, Companions, and more. This is great news of course, though it's a given that the game won't be playable in VR, since the Switch doesn't possess such capabilities outside the rather limited Labo VR. Oh well.
Take a look at that box art, though!
Will you be picking up No Man's Sky when it launches in October? Let us know with a comment!

I am still shocked that they got this game running even remotely well on the Switch. It's a pretty darn hefty game.
Well it ran ok on the base PS4, so here's hoping.
Performance will be the only factor for me on whether I get this or not. It's a completely different game from its original release and now a very good one.
IF everything is on the cart I will be picking this up
No summer release after all? Just as well, perhaps. Given my income calendar, chances are I won't have the funds until at least late October, but that's a bridge to cross when I get to it - and this release date lifts up to $60 from my summer VG funds, along with delaying an expectedly heavy storage toll.😄 A likely inevitable toll, though - this is one of this year's grandest third party releases, and I hope not to miss out on it for long.
Want to play it just for the soundtrack. Love me some 55daysofstatic
Well, if the physical release is handled right and the game runs well, I’m happy to grab this. It’s a wonderful idea for a game that captures the imagination. It’s just a shame the devs imagination ran away with them for the pr lol.
Loved the game at launch years ago on PS4. And there'll be a physical release for Switch? Yes. Well then...put me down for a copy, I definitely will be buying.
@Zuljaras I'm in, regardless. I'll let everyone know.
Here’s hoping it runs well. Really want this version.
@roboshort It can be found on Spotify by 65daysofstatic.
I played it on the PS4 and loved it. If it runs like the video...... day 1 for me! It basicly a endless game.
@nhSnork Summer has been extended due to unforseen circumstances.
Yes yes yes!!!
Have it on my PS4, but remote played it. (Can't play games on a big telly due to bizarro brain-surgery motion sickness.)
Also have it on Xbox GameCloud, but again, less than ideal.
I'll be grabbing the Switch, and also the upcoming Mac version, though I expect a Mac version to trigger off my motion sickness just as bad as playing it on a big telly.
That's a bit worrying, isn't it?
4 versions of the same game!!
.. wonder I could meet them all up, and have a big cheese and wine party, off on some random planet somewhere..?
I feel these devs deserve my money and I will give it to them. Good job putting the work in and making the game work for a hungry switch community. There are publishers worth billions with multiple dev studios that don’t give this effort. So sad.
I will probably pick this up out of sheer curiosity. When Switch does a great port of a huge game like it has done with Witcher 3 and DOOM 2016/DOOM Eternal, then I will always lean towards hybrid portability.
@Zuljaras Was my exact same thought
Will I be picking this up?
You're goddamn right I am!
This is one I probably would have been playing for a while now if I owned a PS4, so I'll preorder a copy on Switch and hope for the best!
Hopefully it will be another title that amazes me how they fit so much game in such modest hardware.
This game puts even a good PC to the test. Curious how it will run on the Switch. Of course I was shocked when Dying Light was released on our beloved console and ran flawlessly, so you never know.
@Zuljaras : I’d posted this months ago, but the PC version (which should be the biggest by far) was only about 10GB, and I expect the Switch version to be about the same, but likely smaller.
@Duncanballs I know i should not be as excited as i'am for this, but i can not help it, I really like this game, i just hope it runs fine enough to be playable.
@ballistic90 now let's wait and see if the weather's got the memo.
fact after the ffffffffffffff up launch they have made such a good game. Ill be getting it day one for the switch NMS on the go
I bought this day 1 on the PS4, and it's amazing how different the game is now compared to then. I still go back to it from time to time on my PS5. It's still one of my favorite "chill vibe" games. I may pick it up for Switch, but I want to see how it runs on it first.
I’m lucky to be currently playing this on the Steam Deck. If that weren’t the case I’d be rather excited about the Switch version; day 1 no questions asked excited. I do remain skeptical of its performance until I really see it in action outside a trailer though. It runs quite well on the SD but it really eats the battery and even has the occasional glitch and considerable pop-in. If they’ve somehow managed to get better performance out of the Switch I’d be very impressed.
@StarPoint I’m nervous after GTA and KOTOR II
I was also there day one for the PS4 version. I pre-ordered digitally; first time I ever did that with a game. I was not as let down as other players. I still had fun and knew they would continue to fix it. That being said, this is like the last game on my "wishes for Switch" list. Everything else I wanted has been ported. So if it runs as great as that video, then count me in! (But maybe not day 1, lol)
I'll definitely get it, digitally of physical. It seems this game is good now hehehe, and I love Switch ports!
Definitely want to revisit this again. I was playing it a few months ago on PS5, but that’s pretty much become my Elden Ring box lately. Portable NMS would definitely help me put some hours into it.
Its awesome how the ps5 version is shown small in the corner even though the ps5 seriously needs new games right now and the switch is flooded with titles
I remember all the bad press when the original version released way back when. While it looks like they've improved things considerably since then, it's one of those games that, maybe some day when it's in the bargain bin, I'll consider trying out.
Glad it’s not a cloud version. If this runs decently and looks ok I’ll get it. Hopefully the whole game is on the cart and there’s no hefty download with the physical edition.
Obviously future updates are gonna have to be downloaded, but i hope all the content so far is on cartridge if i do pick this up eventually.
And here we have NintenDoomed saying the Switch can't handle a game like this. How come they aren't coming out of the woodwork here? Common NintendDoomed fandom where are your lines the Switch only lasted 1 year on release date??????? I can't hear you.......??
Sweet looking forward to this.
If it runs well I may pick this up physically. I had this on PS4, about a year after it came out, digitally. Liked it but lost interest about 30 hours in and never went back. Being on the portable switch, and with all the updates since them, I may give this another chance.
Pretty cool that this is coming to Switch. I never played this but I'm interested after the mega turnaround this game had.

@GameManAdvance some apparent action outside the trailer: https://youtu.be/hBa_L0m0pX0
I hope Nintendo life will review this as if it’s new people playing it for the first time instead of the sometimes frustrating review style of just comparing a game to how well it runs compared to other versions. I’d like to actually learn about the game as a whole on the switch.
@StarPoint have to wait till it releases to see if it runs well
@Zuljaras
Why would it matter? The game requires an internet connection, the actual download size is very small. Everything is procedurally generated on their servers. Once their servers go down years down the road this game will hold no collectors value
I hope this is everything that's on other consoles, just scaled down to 720/30hz handheld. I'd be happy with that....but how does it run on the steamdeck? Better?
Honestly I don't care how it runs at launch. I am confident with these guys knowing how much they love their product. Been wanting to play this game for a while now but its perfect on handheld so I will wait for the Switch version. Day one physical for me given the massive content it has already.
@FoxMcCloud Thanks. I've heard this 65daysofstatic album before and many of their other albums. But I'd like to hear it as a soundtrack to this game, even though they have much better albums.
That opening text in the trailer is still somwhat misleading.
Many objects in the game are NOT procedurally generated, even if their placement may be.
And, aren't quite many planets heavily implied to have been previously explored?
If it's coming physically then it's not running on the cloud. Hooray!
The Switch version will be my third time buying the game!
