Re: Preview: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Is Great, But I Want To Kill One Of Its Characters

I find it funny we are in this scenario where, just a few weeks ago, people weren't happy that Pokémon did not have Voice Acting, and now here we are. I am aware that the scenario would be similar even if it was no voice acting and it was just text, but perhaps to a lesser degree.

In some cases, it's probably for the best that there's no Voice Acting. I am sure there's some quirky characters in Pokémon that could get very annoying if they actually spoke. Of course, as long as the game has an option to mute voices, I'm good.

I understand why people are not happy with this, though. But we don't know the entire game yet so we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Reveals Rosalina, Bowser Jr., And More

@Lizuka I suppose so, but comparing this to something like Toy Story 4, which was announced in November 2014 and only released in June 2019, you do wonder how quickly this one will come out.

Maybe animation work is faster this time around, and / or it's perhaps because this movie is using assets from the first movie too (Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach and Toads all look the same, minus the lighting, of course).

I think first movies will always be more difficult as there's a lot of conceptual work first, deciding on what artstyle to go for, and so on. I think the first movie already put the groundwork on that, so sequels are probably faster due to this.

Anyone feels like this movie came out super fast? It was just 2 years from the first Animated Mario Movie.

I thought that doing animation was a very time-consuming work. Unless they were already worked on alongside the first movie...

In comparison, Nintendo announced the collaboration with Miyamoto and Chris in January 2018, and the movie came out in April 2023. The announcement wouldn't mean they started making the movie exactly in that year, perhaps even earlier.

Re: Two Classic Donkey Kong Icons May Soon Join Bananza As Unlockable Figures

A couple other things:

  • There was that official Nintendo Switch Online for the N64 video showcasing the display options, that had blurried N64 cover art from unreleased games, one that looks suspiciously like Donkey Kong 64. So I think it's still going to release at some point. Rare's involvement to release this game is probably near zero.
  • Not too long ago, I found out that there's an online manual available on the Nintendo Support website since August 2024 for Donkey Kong 64 and Bomberman 64, two games unavailable on the NSO right now. It's possible that this is unrelated to the service, though:
    https://www.nintendo.com/en-za/Support/Nintendo-64/Nintendo-64-manual-and-additional-documents/Nintendo-64-games-manuals/Nintendo-64-games-manuals-990819.html
  • While unrelated, there was a mistake listing on the Wii U Virtual Console for Banjo-Kazooie, done after the Switch was already launched and successful. I just wanted to mention that even back then it seemed that Nintendo was already in talks with Microsoft.

Re: The Binding Of Isaac Is Heading To Switch 2 With A Full Physical Release

Zeugziumy

Binding of Isaac Rebirth was already a game full of contents, here it's even more (2 major DLCs + 2 minor DLC alongside the base game). There's a lot to be played here, and while the DLCs didn't catch my attention when I played it on Steam long ago, I had a blast with the main game and even got all achievements for the non-DLC version.

The price might be a little bit for a roguelike game, I do agree, but if you are a fan of the genre, you will spend a whole lot of time with this one. I have spent 164 hours, and that was only Rebirth, without DLCs.

Re: Sakurai Has No Plans For Kirby Air Riders DLC: "Everything Is Here"

Zeugziumy

I wonder if DLC means paid content and not free updates. When Sakurai announced that all the original Air Ride courses were going to be remade for this game, I was wondering if the same would be applied to Top Ride and the City from the GC game.

I'd assume that if Top Ride courses were to be remade, they would need to be wider, and perhaps Sakurai didn't want to put the original City in just to have one map for people to enjoy extensively and trying to find all sorts of secrets? Perhaps the original City wouldn't be suitable with the new mechanics in mind.

Re: Pokémon Pokopia Looks Like An Adorable Mix Of Minecraft And Animal Crossing

@OorWullie The graphics, sure, but they would have less anti-aliasing on the 3DS. The draw distance on 3DS, I don't think so, it wouldn't show up that much. Of course I'm taking what you are saying for granted and not as a joke as how the graphics look.

This could been easily a Switch 1 release with a Switch 2 patch to improve quality and framerates. Remember that Metroid Prime 4 is technically a Switch 1 game, with a Switch 2 edition as well.

Re: Square Enix Wants Feedback About Its New HD-2D Game Coming To Switch 2

Zeugziumy

I don't have a Switch yet, so I guess I'll just post this here. While the artstyle is cool, I believe the whole 2D-HD thing has been drying off lately, especially in regards to Square Enix's 2D-HD works.

I wonder if there's anyone out there who might be confused with the last two games of the direct as just one, since they have basically the same art direction. And odd choice by Nintendo (or probably more on Square's part) in making both the last games have the same look and vibe.

I guess it's cool that we can get English versions of games that never left Japan, but I don't know man. I remember seeing the first use of this artstyle and I was like, yeah, this is pretty cool, but then on and on, so many of Square's RPGs have been using the same artstyle.

It feels remakes are often "locked" to this artstyle, so, in some sense, I like how the Elliot game is not a remake and it's actually an entirely new game, but even so, I think like if the game was hand-drawn like the portraits, in a more "nature-esque" vibe, I'd enjoy more and it would probably reflect better with the theming of the game.

Yeah, I know there's the point of budget and stuff, but anyway. At least for me, the artstyle has got old very quickly. It's like how we got so many New Super Mario Bros. games with basically the same graphics (Wii, 3DS, Wii U, Switch Deluxe, the DS was kinda an exception), and eventually people did start to get old with those graphics as well.

Apparently some rep at Square Enix is worried about too many 2D-HD games being on the market, potentially oversaturating them, if it's to be believed from Masaaki Hayasaka's words to Bloomberg.

One last thing, which is kinda of a nitpick, but a big chunk of these 2D-HD games have the same exact type of logo. Big logo written with a basic white font. I find it amusing, to say the least.
