Re: Square Enix Wants Feedback About Its New HD-2D Game Coming To Switch 2

I don't have a Switch yet, so I guess I'll just post this here. While the artstyle is cool, I believe the whole 2D-HD thing has been drying off lately, especially in regards to Square Enix's 2D-HD works.

I wonder if there's anyone out there who might be confused with the last two games of the direct as just one, since they have basically the same art direction. And odd choice by Nintendo (or probably more on Square's part) in making both the last games have the same look and vibe.

I guess it's cool that we can get English versions of games that never left Japan, but I don't know man. I remember seeing the first use of this artstyle and I was like, yeah, this is pretty cool, but then on and on, so many of Square's RPGs have been using the same artstyle.

It feels remakes are often "locked" to this artstyle, so, in some sense, I like how the Elliot game is not a remake and it's actually an entirely new game, but even so, I think like if the game was hand-drawn like the portraits, in a more "nature-esque" vibe, I'd enjoy more and it would probably reflect better with the theming of the game.

Yeah, I know there's the point of budget and stuff, but anyway. At least for me, the artstyle has got old very quickly. It's like how we got so many New Super Mario Bros. games with basically the same graphics (Wii, 3DS, Wii U, Switch Deluxe, the DS was kinda an exception), and eventually people did start to get old with those graphics as well.

Apparently some rep at Square Enix is worried about too many 2D-HD games being on the market, potentially oversaturating them, if it's to be believed from Masaaki Hayasaka's words to Bloomberg.

One last thing, which is kinda of a nitpick, but a big chunk of these 2D-HD games have the same exact type of logo. Big logo written with a basic white font. I find it amusing, to say the least.
