Re: 50 Best Nintendo DS Games Of All Time

ZanderShepherd

Solid list! I gotta say tho, I literally just beat Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, and that game absolutely deserves to be on here. I was legitimately blown away by its scope, its world and its unique gameplay, and it was engaging beginning to end.

Re: Soapbox: If The Smash Community Wants To #SaveSmash, It Needs To Start From Within

ZanderShepherd

@HitchHikr If that's the case for you, I'm happy for you. I do know that many people enjoy being a part of the Smash community, and I don't want to take that away from anyone. If you've had positive experiences with the Smash community, that's great and I hope you will continue to have positive experiences in the future.
For me though, it has not been good. I will bluntly say that community-wide stuff like this does affect my personal experience, but even aside from that. Sure, I've met some nice people, but...just as an example, I main Bayonetta. I do so because she's my favourite video game character of all time, and I still main her in Ultimate. But let's just say that engaging with the Smash community during that era was a struggle not worth enduring at that time for me. The insane hatred that was spewed against anyone who dared touch her was not exactly a secret. And that's just one example.

Re: Soapbox: If The Smash Community Wants To #SaveSmash, It Needs To Start From Within

I could not agree more with this article. I'll be honest, when I saw all those melodramatic sappy posts about how much Smash means to people and how we should #SaveSmash, my gut reaction was to laugh at them. I'm a huge Smash fan, it's probably my favourite game series of all time, but there's a reason I actively avoid the Smash community. It's one of the most toxic communities I've ever interacted with, and everybody knows it. Looking at the community as a whole, they did the bare minimum you could do after those allegations, if even that. And to now beg for sympathy with this hashtag? It's clear they banned the word 'sympathy' from their own dictionary many years ago. Regardless of Nintendo was in the right or not to do this, this sudden desperate jump from the Smash community to beg for sympathy, claim unity, act all emotional, it's the most tone-deaf thing I've seen in a while. I'm sorry if I'm sounding harsh but this is really grinding my gears. Before I can care about fixing how Nintendo treats your community, why not try fixing your community so it's something worth caring about first? Until then, I'll gladly keep playing Smash against CPUs.

Re: Former Project M Devs Unveil Icons: Combat Arena; It Sure Looks Like Smash Bros

ZanderShepherd

All right, I won't touch on the art style or design choices, since I understand it's low budget (even if that's no excuse for poor design, but still). My issue is with the gameplay. It's OK to take inspiration from Smash. It's OK to take a lot of inspiration from Smash. But you need to do something original with it.

These characters look like exact clones of Smash fighters. One of those guys had the exact same animations as Fox, another one had the exact same animations as Marth, and another one moved extremely similair to Captain Falcon and Ganondorf. Again, similair characters isn't that bad in concept. Rivals of Aether's characters had some basic moves that looked very similair to Smash moves too. But you do need to do something original with it!

Don't get me wrong, I understand the game is still in early alpha and we don't know anything about its exact mechanics. However, if you release a trailer you need to make those unique mechanics clear. And judging from this gameplay I just don't see any originality. Again, it's OK to take inspiration from Smash, but you should do something original. Rivals of Aether pulled it off with a unique parry mechanic and incredibly innovative, new and interesting character abilities. Heck, even PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale tried to make things unique with its super-move based KO system. I get that you want to stay close to Smash, but you can't just straight-up clone the formula and its elements and claim it's your own thing.

Again, I don't know what the final mechanics will be like, and I won't judge until the full thing is out. But judging from this early footage I'm really doubting this game will be able to properly set itself apart from Smash. I'm sorry, but it just does not feel original to me. I'm hoping you guys can still surprise me, but you'd need to work on it.

Re: Nintendo Unveils Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Dual Pack and Fan Editions

ZanderShepherd

Even though I still love the Pokémon franchise, these may be the very first main series titles I'm skipping ever since the I started getting into the series. Don't get me wrong, I still love the series to death, but with every main series game my enjoyment has gone down a bit more. I loved SoulSilver, I loved White, and I loved White 2. Y was great too, but didn't hook me in the same way. Omega Ruby just did not grab me and I stopped playing after finishing the Delta episode, and with Sun, even though I enjoyed it thoroughly, for one reason or another I just stopped after the Elite 4.

I still love the series, but after my lukewarm experience with Sun I'm not sure I should dive back again right away. Sometimes absence does make the heart grow fonder. Not to mention, with both Miitopia, Metroid: Samus Returns and the two Bayonetta amiibo right around the corner I think I have enough stuff to spend my money on in the near future. I'm sorry Pokémon, but I'm afraid I won't be catching them all this time around.

(Also, seriously though, is it just me or are these titles suffering from a SEVERE lack in promotion?)

Re: PlatinumGames Is Keen To Make Bayonetta 3, Possibly With A New Protagonist

ZanderShepherd

I completely agree with literally everyone here. Bayonetta is without a doubt my favourite videogame character of all time, and I wouldn't want her to disappear from Bayonetta 3. But a co-op setup actually sounds pretty interesting! I'd be all for that! I just really hope Bayonetta 3 will happen. Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are two of my favourite games ever, and I want more!

Re: Rumour: Artwork for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Posted Online

ZanderShepherd

If this is real Nintendo will lose a LOT of credit from me. We've seen convincing fakes before, let's hope this is too. That Peach rabbit alone is making me sick just looking at it. Marketing yourself as "self-mocking" is rarely a good thing, and that rabbit isn't self-mocking, it's catering to focus groups. Besides me not liking the Rabbids in general (they're just Minions before Minions), this just does NOT look good to me. The gameplay is going to have to be REALLY good to get me into this.

Re: Playtonic Removes JonTron's Voice from Yooka-Laylee

ZanderShepherd

I stopped supporting JonTron a long time ago. I like his videos a lot, but he has said such bad things about sensitive subjects, I just can't support someone like that. Don't get me wrong, of course everyone's entitled to their opinion, and that goes for him too. However, he has said such hurtful things about not just immigration but other issues too, like gender identity among others, that he almost felt like a borderline Trump knock-off to me, and I cannot and will not support someone like that.

Re: EMiO 'The Edge' Joystick is Incompatible with the NES Mini

ZanderShepherd

First the wireless Nyko one doesn't work, and now this. Oh well, at least it's not as bad as the plastic WiiMote accessory craze.

But this does confuse me. So the NES Mini controllers work as Classic Controllers, and Classic Controllers work with the NES Mini? If both controllers work with both systems, then why wouldn't this one do the same? I just assumed the NES Mini controller had the same insides as a Classic Controller, just without the joysticks and shoulder buttons.

Re: The New Miitomo Update is Now Live

ZanderShepherd

I'll check this out! I haven't touched the game in months, maybe this'll bring me back! However, I do think it's too little too late. Only a few of my friends even tried it when it came out, and I don't think this'll bring them back.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Nintendo Switch?

ZanderShepherd

I love the concept behind the console. I'm a little doubtful about the Joy-Cons, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see on those. I love the portability it offers, and it going more back-to-basic may lure in a lot more 3rd party support.
What really excites me though is hidden in the confirmed development partners. PlatinumGames? HECK YES!

Re: Pokémon GO Creator Niantic Taken To Court Over Beach Mobs

ZanderShepherd

As someone from the Netherlands, I will admit that the situation in Kijkduin was getting out of hand. However, these are some very drastic measures for an issue that could've easily been solved another way.
Also, I should mention that Pokémon GO is still met with some amount of unfair hostility from some people here. I was sitting near a PokéStop recently, and two men walked by and literally said this "Ugh, another one catching Pokémon. All these kids just sitting outside, it's awful."

Re: Review: Just Dance 2015 (Wii U)

ZanderShepherd

I don't have a Just Dance game in my collection, but I love the song selection in this one so much I'm probably going to get this one. You spin me right round baby, right round, like a record baby round round round round

Re: Feature: Ten of Our Favourite DSiWare Games

ZanderShepherd

It's a big shame Aura-Aura Climber wasn't on here. Easily one of the best titles. Some of my favourites includie Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, Plants vs. Zombies and Army Defender. As a kid I also really liked AiRace and Photo Dojo, though those have kind of fallen off the radar for me.
Also, I know it's status as DSiWare is debatable, but I still love Flipnote Studio. It's honestly ridiculous how much time I spent on Flipnote Hatena just watching Flipnotes.

Re: Nintendo is Now 127 Years Old

ZanderShepherd

Happy birthday Nintendo! 127 years, an incredible number. Let's hope there are even more to come!

(I also still find it funny Nintendo and I share the same birthday. It's like I was destined to be a Nintendo fan from birth :3)
