Re: SNES Games Finally Arriving on the New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console

ZanderShepherd

This is VERY dissapointing to me. There are a lot of SNES titles out there I never played, but I really want to try, and this could've been the perfect opportunity for me to try them, but noooo, they're New 3DS only. Why? The regular 3DS can easily run SNES games, I know that much. I'm sorry Nintendo, but I simply can't afford a New 3DS, especially not if you still want me to buy the NX.

Re: Kirby Is Taking A Trip To Planet Robobot This June

ZanderShepherd

I never played Kirby Triple Deluxe. I don't know why, but the trailers and reviews just failed to impress me. Kirby games and I have been through a rough patch. Super Star Ultra is one of my favourite games on the DS, then Mass Attack was all right, Adventure Wii was all right too, and Epic Yarn was very dissapointing (though I only rented that one). I still love the series though, and maybe it's because I haven't played a Kirby game in a while, but I'm very excited for this!

Re: Poll: Vote for Your Favourite Main Series Pokémon Games - 20th Anniversary Edition

ZanderShepherd

SoulSilver for the nostalgia factor, since it was my first Pokémon game ever.
My absolute favourite is White 2 though. That game always stands out to me as the best one. The story was very engaging (at least for kid-to-starting-teen-me back when I played it), the region was unique, memorable, diverse and great to explore, the characters are memorable (especially N), and the aftergame is easily the best one yet. Without a doubt the best Pokémon game out there in my opinion.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates Becomes Fastest Selling Release in Franchise History in the US

ZanderShepherd

Holy cow! And here I was thinking it'd be equal to maybe a little higher than Awakening. I'll be completely honest, the series is not totally for me. I have Awakening, and it's really good, but it failed to really grab me. Probably something on my part though. But I'm glad the series is doing this well! Maybe this can be linked to Robin, Lucina, Roy ánd Corrin being added to Smash, or maybe it was the huge amount of praise for Awakening. Either way, I'm glad to see it's doing well!

Re: Pokémon Red, Blue And Yellow European Pricing Is Confirmed

ZanderShepherd

Uhm, excuse me? I'm sorry, that's my limit. I'm a huge Pokémon fan, and I get the series is being used as a cash cow with all the mobile games, but this is outrageous. I know they added wireless support and all that, but that doesn't justify more than doubling the price compared to regular VC games. Guys, I really wanted to buy this, and I probably will eventually, but this is just pissing me off. I know that people are willing to pay this for those games, especially the people with nostalgic feelings for these games, but for me this goes too far. This just really rubs me the wrong way, and feels like milking. I just got Firered secondhanded, and I paid the same price for that, including shipping! I'm sorry guys, this may just be me now, but I'm seriously mad.

Re: Pokémon Reorchestrated Has Its YouTube Channel Taken Down Due to Third Copyright Strike

ZanderShepherd

#WTFU
Guys, please help with this campaign. Just as this campaign was started, another channel got hit. We need to get the word out. Where's the fair use? #WTFU
Please watch this video for more details on the campaign: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVqFAMOtwaI
This has gone on long enough. I know this may not relate to fair use necessarily, but the YouTube system is broken as a whole and this campaign is trying to adress that.

Re: Guide: Setup and Key Facts for Nintendo Account and Miitomo Preregistration

ZanderShepherd

Now that's what I call timing! My grandma is just about to give me a new smartphone, so that means I can actually play it! I don't know what to expect, but it reminds me of Tomodachi Life, and I love Tomodachi Life, so I'll give Miitomo a shot. What's there to lose?
I'm excited to see what My Nintendo will bring! I loved Club Nintendo, and I'm sure I'll love this too

Re: Review: Go Vacation (Wii)

ZanderShepherd

WHAT!? This has to be the first time I completely disagree with a review on this site. I really enjoyed this game. The events aren't anything too special, but what I (and especially my little brother and my nephews) loved was the overworld. It's huge, but that gives it room for exploring. It's fun to just go around, try different vehicles, and find secrets. This game is really good in my opinion, and I highly recommend you check it out.

Re: Review: Wii Party (Wii)

ZanderShepherd

Really? You guys only gave this game a 7/10? This is one of my favourite party games on the Wii. I think it easily deserves an 8, maybe even a 9. Definitely do go and pick it up if you haven't already and you're still looking for a fun party game.

Re: Nintendo Letter Box

ZanderShepherd

I'm giving this title a 5/10, and that's partially due to the SpotPass disabling. But even then I felt it's rather shallow. Sending eachother drawings is cute, but to me it always felt like a Flipnote Studio wannabe. I just didn't care about it, and I especially don't care now that SpotPass is disabled.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

ZanderShepherd

I would've given this game a perfect 10 if I hadn't played Smash 3DS yet. It sadly just can't live up to that. I do still really love this game though. Ah, whatever, it's my favourite Wii game ever, I'm giving it a 10 as well. I do believe it deserves it, even if Smash Bros 4 is so obviously better.

Re: Pokémon Trading Card Game

ZanderShepherd

I can't even beat the first frickin' opponent in this! I understand the rules, but I guess I just really suck because no matter how many times or how hard I try I just can't beat him!

I guess I just really suck at the TCG, I'll stick to the VG

Re: Wii Sports

ZanderShepherd

Wow wow wow! Take a look at the Mii in the red shirt, the one swinging a baseball bat, on the third screenshot. What is up with his ear!? Since when do Miis even have ears!?

Re: Mix Superstar

ZanderShepherd

Now that user generated scores are available, I'm giving this title a 7. Part of the reasoning for that is that there is no longer a way to save your songs for use on other devices, unless you capture it directly from your Wii or Wii U. That takes a lot of charm out of the title. It still isn't bad though.

Re: Site News: Welcome To The Brand New Nintendo Life!

ZanderShepherd

Just look at this redesign! This has to be one of the most drastic, if not the most drastic redesign the site has ever had!

When I first saw this a few minutes ago, I was shocked. This is going to take some time to get used to. I do like it though. I was just starting to feel like Nintendo Life was ready for something new (though I wasn't expecting that new thing to be such a drastic change), and I'm totally up for it! It looks fresh, and more organised. I like how you can now just scroll down to the tab of your choice on the main page, rather than have to scroll through all the different topics in chronological order. User scores are also something I've been anticipating for a long time.

The only thing I kind of miss is the forum bar that was on the side of the old homepage. I liked being able to just take a gander at it and see what was being posted on the forums. But that's a minor complaint. I'm excited to see how the site is going to grow from here, and I'm going to be busy for a while now just sending in user scores. Good job on the redesign guys!

Re: Weirdness: 8-Year-Old Writes Nintendo A Letter Of Apology For Getting His 3DS Wet

ZanderShepherd

That's nice. That just puts a smile on my face. First of all that's really nice from the kid, to apologise and show remorse. Second, I agree, it's a nice break from all the anger the repair centers have to deal with. People often get unreasonably angry over these things. Heck, when I send my 3DS in to repair the Cirle Pad my dad got really mad about the cost. Of course it costs money, what did you expect? They have to do their jobs too!
But seriously, this is something I really appreciate. A former apology, that's one of those things that seems like something small but can go a long way. Good on you kid! I hope you get your system back soon!

Re: Pokémon Go Showcase Session Confirmed for GDC in March

ZanderShepherd

Wish I could try this, but I just can't. Same problem with Miimoto. My phone is really bad and can barely run anything. I know I should replace it, but I can't afford that right now. Heck, the bluetooth doesn't even work anymore! As much as I love Pokémon (and as much as my friends are hyped for this) I'm gonna have to skip it at first.
This has always been my fear to be honest. Them releasing games on phones which would prevent me from playing them unless I switch phones every few year. But at least it's only two games thus far, so I can deal with it. I'll just enjoy Pokémon Red on the eShop

Re: Nintendo Shows Off the Continuing Growth and Popularity of amiibo

ZanderShepherd

That's impressive! I'm a collector myself, currently have 24. Except for two, I got all of mine from regular stores here in the Netherlands, but what I find interesting is that of the top selling ones here, I only own two of the ten given (Classic Mario Retro colours and Pikachu). All a matter of taste I guess. I honestly wasn't expecting the Splatoon amiibo be so high, but I guess Splatoon really is big.

Re: Nintendo Download: 4th February (Europe)

ZanderShepherd

I know they announced the Smash DLC for February, but I didn't expect it do launch right on the 4th! I'm so hyped!!!!! Bayonetta is one of my favourite games, and my absolute favourite game on PS3, and now she's coming to my my number one favourite game ever! YYYEEESSS!!!!

Re: Review: Minecraft: Story Mode - Episode 1: The Order of the Stone (Wii U eShop)

ZanderShepherd

I saw some gameplay. To me it looked like a huge package of quicktime events. I'm sorry, but if I want to watch a Minecraft movie, I'll look up some fan-made animations on YouTube. I really don't mind quicktime events, and I really don't mind good storylines and long cutscenes. Bayonetta is one of my favourite games, and it's filled with both. However, I don't want quicktime events and some branching paths to be the entire game. Sorry, it may be good for some, but it's not for me.

Re: Hyrule Warriors Legends

ZanderShepherd

Oh dear, never mind, I'm probably not getting this. I only own the original 3DS, and I just saw footage of the footage demo on the original 3DS. I knew it would be too good to be true. It looks bad! I know I can't expect Wii U quality on the 3DS, but it just looks bad. It looked like it functioned just fine, but it doesn't look nearly as action-packed as the Wii U version. The framerate is especially terrible.
This game was on top of my must-buy list, but it definitely has dropped down now.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo Super Scope

ZanderShepherd

"we miss the days when gigantic, gun-sized controllers were all the rage." You should've seen my steph-brothers when they came home with this giant plastic machine gun to put their WiiMote in for Call of Duty.
While I personally dislike these plastic expansions for WiiMotes, since they only tend to hinder gameplay for me (with a few exceptions like the Wii Wheel), I have to say that I do get the charm of using a giant gun for your game. While I personally don't like FPS games, I do have the classic NES Zapper and playing games like Duck Hunt or even Bayou Billy with that is a lot of fun!

Re: Bayonetta 2 to Have a Standalone North American Release on 19th February

ZanderShepherd

I sadly don't have a Wii U, but my cousin gifted me his PS3 last december because he never used it. I immediately got Bayonetta on PS3 (which I could get brand new for €10 (what a steal!)), and it has jumped up as one of my favourite games not just on PS3, but in general. The story is deep and interesting, the characters are very likeable, the music is awesome, the combat not only tight and responsive but also very satisfying and the general gameplay is simply amazing. It's a game oozing with charm and it plays beautifully, and it's ridicilously cheap to get nowadays. I sadly don't have the option of playing Bayonetta 2, but from what I've heard it's just as good, if not better than the original. If anyone hasn't tried out this franchise yet, please go ahead and do it, you won't be dissapointed.

Re: Poll: Are You Optimistic About Nintendo's 2016?

ZanderShepherd

Hmm...Difficult.
I'm not sure for Wii U. I won't deny that Starfox is an exciting release, but I don't think it'll be that huge of a hit in sales, at least not compared to other releases like Mario Maker, Smash or even Splatoon. And while Zelda U will definitely be a big hit, and Twilight Princess HD will help too, I'm just not sure that'll carry the console on its own for the year. Admittely, I don't follow Wii U news very closely and maybe I'm just pessimistic, but I'm gonna have to wait and see. It can turn out great, it'll probably turn out good, but I'm keeping my expectations limited.

I feel more solid about 3DS. It may be because don't have a Wii U and I follow 3DS news more closely, but there are a lot more titles for 3DS I know of and am excited about. Yo-Kai Watch, Hyrule Warriors Legends, Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and the Pokémon game which currently isn't announced but I'm almost certain of will come this year. Come on, it's the 20th anniversary of Pokémon and they've had short timespans between announcement and release before. Not to mention the new Zygarde form, Something must be coming.

As for mobile games, they don't do a thing for me, mainly because my phone completely worthless and can't run any apps other than the required like WhatsApp. While Pokémon GO looks great, I'm purposely keeping my hype levels low because I know it can't possibly live up to the hype surrounding it. But I do think it has great potential to become a huge success. Miimoto looked like a lot of fun to me, especially because I'm a huge fan of Tomodachi Life, but I just can't see my friends using Miimoto actively. Guess we'll have to wait and see on that one. I think the mobile games have the potential to become huge hits, but potential is the key word. It'll all depend on the market and the selection they have coming out.

I'm excited for the NX. I think the NX has great potential, but it needs to win over consumers quickly. PS4 and Xbone already had a huge fanbase from PS3 and Xbox360, and more and more of those CoD-FIFA loving gamers have jumped to PS4 and Xbone. I won´t write a detailed article here, especially since Nintendo Life already wrote enough of them, but Nintendo has always focused on the casual market, and the key to winning them over is having something that´s clear, easy to understand, and fun. Obviously this has paid off for them, especially with the Wii, and while many Wii owners may have skipped the Wii U, they may be looking for something new too. Besides, other, new consumers have joined the market too, and if Nintendo manages to make the NX into a balance between unique and new, and simple to understand and develop for, that´s also appealing for the mainstream audience, I think we could have a gem on our hands. I honestly have no clue which direction the NX will go. I think the market is a difficult one, and only the right strategy will win consumers over, but I´m not a marketing expert. They did an amazing job with the Wii, still did fine with the Wii U in the long run, but I guess we can only wait and see.
