Re: Talking Point: In Praise of the 3DS eShop, Which is Now Five Years Old

ZanderShepherd

I've gotten some great games from the eShop. Not only did it bring both original games and Virtual Console games, but for me personally it allowed me to play games I otherwise couldn't play (namely Shovel Knight and Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures because my old laptop suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked).
Currently I have about 30 titles from the eShop in total, and I'm very happy with how it turned out. It didn't grab me in the way the DSi Shop did when that came out, but that may be because it was a new concept back then.
Even then, I'll be enjoying VVVVVV, Shovel Knight, AVGN Adventures, Bike Rider DX, Tetris, and all the other titles for a long time to come.

Re: Rumour: Smash Bros. Update 1.1.6 Only Seems To Impact Bayonetta

ZanderShepherd

@Vandy I'm not saying Sakurai did all the work. Of course I appreciate all the other developers just as much. However, you're the one talking completely down on him, while he still does a lot of work too. I don't think he deservers all the praise for the entire series, I really don't. However, you're heavily talking down on him, and I don't think he deserves that either. He still does a lot of work, just as much as the other developers. He was still the one who had no holidays and cut-short his weekends to work on the game. He takes a lot of responsibility for a lot of things that happen during the game's development. Does he do everything by himself? No, of course not. But I still believe he deservers to be recognised for all the effort he still puts in, rather than just get scolded because he didn't include this or that particular character.

But I'm stepping out of this discussion. Like I said before, This is a comment section on a news article about patch notes, and I don't want to clutter it with a useless discussion about Sakurai. I, and many others, like Bayonetta, you don't. I respect you disliking her, I'm just hoping you can accept she's in and can accept that we do like her. She was number one in Europe, and in the top 5 in North America. You can refuse to believe those numbers all you want, I do believe them, and that clearly shows that she was heavily requested by that silent 'minority'. Go hate on her all you want, but I do like her, and that's my final word in this discussion.

Let's just get back to the patch notes. Even though I really like Bayonetta, I can see why she would get nerfed. I just hope they do buff some of the weaker characters as well, since I some of my other favourite characters, like Wii Fit Trainer and especially Palutena, could really use that.

Re: Rumour: Smash Bros. Update 1.1.6 Only Seems To Impact Bayonetta

@Vandy About that quote of unoriginal characters, there are reasons for all of them. Roy made it back in due to fan demand (again) and Lucina made it in because she was originally going to be an alternate skin for Marth (like Alph for Olimar), but they decided to change her up a bit and turn her into her own character. And no, that didn't take the spot of another character, because even Lucina, Dr. Mario and Dark Pit combined would take way less time to develop than any new character they could've added in, especially since their models were already done.

And about Sakurai, well I'm sorry for respecting a man who works this hard for the fans of his franchises. He did what he could. You can respect that, or you can keep on crying.

But in all seriousness, let's just stop this useless discussion. This is a comment section on a news article about patch notes, and we're cluttering it with a useless discussion about Sakurai. I, and many others, like Bayonetta, you don't. That's fine with me, more power to ya. But I for one actually appreciate the huge amount of work he did for this game, even if he didn't make it exactly the way I wanted it. You can do that too, or you can keep on crying. It's up to you.

Re: Rumour: Smash Bros. Update 1.1.6 Only Seems To Impact Bayonetta

ZanderShepherd

@Vandy Excuse me? I'm sorry, but Sakurai cares a lot about the fans. Sure, we got Bayonetta, but look at some of the other characters that made it into the game. Little Mac, Pac-Man, Mega Man, heck, even in Brawl Sonic mainly made it in due to the outrageous fan demand. In fact, DLC wasn't even planned for the game until it was finished. And when they did decide to do it, their first character was Mewtwo, because he knew how much fan demand there was for him.
He's very dedicated to what he does, and his goals are always to give the fans as much as he can. Ever since Melee, each subsequent installment of Smash has taken more out of him. During the development of Melee he had no holidays and cut-short his weekend to put as much of his time as he could into the game, all because he wanted to give the fans as much as he could give them.

Sure, Bayonetta wasn't the absolute number one, but there are things to consider here. Not everyone posts their opinion online. I don't care how many polls you pulled together, that still doesn't represent every voter. There are many that may share their vote on regional sites, or maybe don't share it online at all! Sakurai said it, she was the absolute number 1 in Europe, and in the top 5 in North America. He wouldn't just make that up, so clearly your polls don't represent the majority.

Also, he never stated Corrin was added due to fan demand. I'll be honest, when Corrin got announced, I was a little salty too, but you know what happened? I GOT OVER IT!!! Instead of still crying about it after 5 months I just accepted that Corrin was in, and instead enjoyed the characters that did make it in that I liked. Instead of whining for half a year that your favourite didn't make it in, how about you just appreciate what he has given us? The roster consists of 58 characters, and all of them took an incredible amount of work to put in. Don't tell me you don't like any of them. No, my votes didn't make it in either. And yes, I wish they did. But I learned to appreciate what we got, not be mad about what we didn't get.

Re: Nintendo is Getting Into the Movie Business

ZanderShepherd

There is some pirential here. The Japan-only Animal Crossing movie was apparently pretty good, and I enjoyed Bayonetta: Bloody Fate. Now I'm not saying they should stick to anime, but when done right, some franchises could turn out really good. I'd love to see a live-action serious and mature Metroid movie (ONLY IF DONE RIGHT OF COURSE)

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

ZanderShepherd

This drop in consumer interest in toy-to-life products isn't just limited to Disney Infinity either. Intertoys, one of the largest toy store brands in the Netherlands, recently dropped the prices on all amiibo from €15,99 to €7,99. And while they advertise this as a discount on their website, the regular stores treat it like it's the regular price. This has also been the price for a few weeks now, so I think they dropped the price permanently. I honestly haven't checked the prices on Skylanders, Disney Infinity or Lego Dimensions, since I don't care about those series. And while other stores have been lowering prices (they go on bol.com, the largest online warehouse in the country, for 10-16 euros on average), this is the first huge price drop that I've seen. Clearly the consumer interest in these products is going down in general, even when you look past the relatively poor quality of the Disney Infinity titles compared to the Skylanders and amiibo-compatible games.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon Debut Trailer Confirms Starter Pokemon and Release Dates

ZanderShepherd

My first impression of the new 'mon was bad, but I grew to like them almost right away. Only the Moon legendary I don't really like, the rest looks nice!

I'm definitely going for Rowlet, the grass starter. First of all he reminds me of Brewster from Animal Crossing (hey, there's a nickname!), secondly he reminds me of the Potoo Bird, a bird I've always wanted to see turned into a Pokémon;
Untitled
And third, he's just so cute!

I'm also probably going for the Sun version. I just like legendary better, he reminds me of the Roario from Viva Piñata. :3

One thing though, why oh why does Europe have to wait another five days?! Why are we always last?! I know it seems like a minor thing, but it'll mean I can't use the internet for a week if I don't want everything spoiled! You did a succesfull worldwide release with X and Y, why do we have to wait now?!

Re: Video: Re-Live your School Years with these Five Nintendo Lies We All Believed

ZanderShepherd

There are 2 in particular that I remember really well.

First, ne and my friends all had this great DS game "Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise". One piñata, the Yeli, was notoriously difficult to get. I never found it in any of the hours I sunk into it, and I only have it because my friend send me one from his hacked game on his R4. Meanwhile, there were all kinds of tricks to get it going around. You have to be a level 6 gardener with a Moon lamp that you have to water and destroy during the night with an upgraded shovel, it was crazy. And yet, still nobody found it without cheating...

The second one is one I know almost everyone falls for at least once in their life. I was still a (pretty gullible) kid at school, playing browser games, when sone kid tells me about this amazing cheat! Pressing ALT+F4 will give you an extra life! 😑

Re: This Nintendo Patent for a U-Shaped Fitness Controller is Actually Cool

ZanderShepherd

In all seriousness though, I won't deny that this looks ridiculous. It may have some interesting functionalities, but its capabilities seem severely limited. At least the balancing gimmick of the Balance Board allowed for some variation, with skiing, yoga, etc. I just can't see the possibilities to create variation with this thing. If this is intended as a Wii or Wii U accessory, it'll probably just end up like the uDraw Game Tablet. An interesting idea, but limited in capability and possibilities to innovate or create variation, or to put it bluntly, a failure.
Even as a part of QoL, this doesn't seem that innovative or interesting to me, or even that functional for that matter. It can help you train your muscles and maybe measure your strength, and then what? I'll be honest, it looks like bad fitness equipment from Tell Sell.

Re: Nintendo Gears Up for Quite a Bit of Network Maintenance This Week

I hope they finally fix the glitched badge names. My system is set to Dutch, and because of that the badge names all appear like this:
Untitled
It was funny at first, but now I'm growing tired of it. All because my system is set to Dutch (it got fixed when I switched to English). I do think the glitched names which look like internal file names are funny, but I'm ready to switch to the regular names now.
Also, give us some badges of the Smash Fighters please, or some general series symbols like the ones found in Smash, I need me some Smash badges!

Re: Poll: Did the Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct Kickstart 2016?

ZanderShepherd

I'm so hyped for Kirby Planet Robobot! Also, those Yo-kai Watch and Rhythm Heaven Megamix trailers with Mr. Shibata, brilliant! Also glad with the trailers for 3rd party games, and especially with the one for Azure Striker Gunvolt 2. Not because of that game specifically, but because they reminded me it exists and that I seriously have to play it.
