Miitopia is getting its own Japanese Nintendo Direct this weekend, continuing the strange path to release for the Mii-centric 3DS title. As for a Western arrival, there's been no solid indication of that happening any time soon.
In any case, a preview download of the game is on the Japanese 3DS eShop, and NintenDaan has shared some neat footage. As you can see it shares plenty of characteristics with Tomodachi Life, but has more fantastical storytelling and gameplay elements to consider.
It looks rather charming, all told. We'll see more of it in the live broadcast on 5th November at 4am Pacific / 7am Eastern / 11am UK / noon CET.

... ... ... What?
Miitomo 2
Please Westernise. Need more Miis in life.
This looks so cringy.
So, this isn't really a game, you just put Mii faces into 1 of 2 "movies" that play out? And I guess these 2 movies are free and they'll sell more, kind of like those Streetpass games? And you can take "photos" in game to post them to Miiverse?
So it's somewhere between Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival where you don't really do anything, and Miitomo where you don't really do anything?
Well it still sounds better than MyNintnedo I suppose.
Hopefully they have a better concept in mind for the Switch launch bundled in game.
I kind of like the idea, but it seems like something that should be in a game, not be a game. Like SMM, AC:aF, MP:FF, Miitomo, basically a lot of what they've been doing the past 2 years. They should have added this into Tomodachi Life like they added Survival Island into AC:NL. Unless I'm completely wrong about what this is. So many question marks.
Oh I can't wait for my lunch break so I can get this.
ONE PUNCH!!!
It seems super Japan-centric. Almost 100% doubting the English release it would prob flop over here.
That friendship trailer was cute. I'll be looking forward to this.
this would have been an amazing addition to tomodachi life, not sure about as a stand-alone
I mean, it doesn't look like a game to me. If at all. So I imagine it'd be a free thing on the Eshop for everyone to just play around with once its finished. They might restrict some of the content for the people willing to pay, but I don't think they'll be asking for full retail price. Or even around that.
@rjejr This is only the demo, giving an idea of what the game will be like through the two movies.
Seems to me like it'll be kind of like a 'choose your own adventure' kind of story where you pick an action to take next and then the Miis act it out... more of an interactive movie than a game, but I still like the sound of it... I just hope they have more stories/settings than just the one shown in the demo.
This looks like the result of a disturbing dream. Just bring out Teddy Together in North America instead, it would be a lot more fun.
Not sure I understand what this is, even after watching it twice. Where's Detective Pikachu?
@rjejr I think you are selling it short. Instead of pre-made movies it is a bunch of scenarios that come up between characters that are based on miis. You won't get the same thing everyone else does. I guess Tomodachi Life RPG? Not sure how the game elements will be handled but like others have said more towards choose your own adventure.
Imagine putting your whole family in an RPG with a goofy sense of humor about all the RPG tropes I guess. Could be hilarious to see how your "characters" advance and their misadventures.
I'd prefer if Miitomo was much more like this.
I love this! I really hope they bring this over to the west. Tomodachi Life is one of my favourite 3DS games, and I'm definitely looking forward to what this could become!
@aaronsullivan @DragonEleven I don't know what the full game will be like, I only know I didn't see what looked like the Miis doing anything that was controlled by button presses or D-pad movement. I know Nintendo called AC:aF a game but from what I've seen you only touch the amiibo and the games does the rest. If there are choices like in the TellTale games then I suppose it's a game, I just didn't see any choices be made. If it turns out there's a full blown RPG in there I'll be mightily impressed.
@YouSeemFRAZZLED Well I hope somebody is here Friday to translate b/c its hard for me to get anything out of the Japanese.
Wait until 5 Nov 2016 for further reveals. I'm sure Nintendo won't make a game somewhat like Tokimeki series (Digital Novel games, just only choose some options and watch the scenes).
@ieatdragonz Tomodachi life would like to prove you wrong.
I wonder if this had anything to do with that question they asked in Badge Arcade...
@rjejr: The Preview (which isn't a demo btw) specifically tells you that while it only contains two static shorts, "you will be able to play to your heart's content" in the full game.
...Surely i'm not the only one who noticed Saitama saying "OK" in that trailer, right?
@scamander ""you will be able to play to your heart's content" in the full game."
Thanks, guess that gives me reason to keep an eye out then.
@scamander Actually, it is a demo... it's just that it's not the sort of demo people typically think of in relation to video games... it's demonstrating how Miis will be used in the game, not the control the player will have within the game, as would be expected.
Judging by the comments, this game sucks!! Lol
I love Nintendo,but cmon!
@DragonEleven It is called a Preview not a demo from Nintendo themselves.
@scamander That doesn't mean it can't be both.
