Re: Poll: Which Nintendo NX Games Do You Want to See in the Launch Window?

White-Wash

Not voting for my most anticipated games, but those that I believe make the most sense to be released in the initial 6 month launch window.

Day 1:
-Breath of the Wild
-3D Mario Game

Botw for the obvious reason that its happening. It was incredibly smart for Nintendo to hold its release for the NX launch. Provides a grade A block buster hit that has already generated a substantial amount of hype at E3. This is the game that gives anyone interested in the NX a reason to purchase the system.

Mario is the staple of Nintendo characters and is expected at launch in one form or another. After the release of Mario Maker I recall Miyamoto stating its time for Mario to Evolve. I took this as acknowledgment that another stale 2d rehash won't make the cut after the creative tools have already been given to the users. I'd expect a 3D Mario title: Possible Galaxy/3D world sequel.

High tier fillers:
-Racing Game (Fzero or Wave Race)
-Platformer (DKC, Yoshi, Kirby, Rayman)
-Pikmin 4

Nintendo will release a couple high tier games to bolster their initial lineup while we wait for the 2nd blockbuster to drop (hopefully 6-10 months down the line). IMO the perfect candidates would be a racing and platforming game. This hits a wide range of game types while allowing its users to test the systems new portable perks. Casual platforming: situations with limited time (car rides, bus stops, lunch breaks, etc..) Racing game: group/party play on individual systems. Online play.

Pikmin 4 since its been in the works for quite sometime and adds a unique experience to the lineup.

Low Tier Fillers:

-Casual Play (NX sports / NX fit)
-Wario Ware
-Pokemon spinoff

Games that are targeted to either an extremely wide or narrow audience. Not saying these games are bad, but the hype levels are for a select few. The rest of us either give them a shot out of curiosity or pass while we save for the next game.

2nd Major Release:
-Metroid Prime
-Pokemon Main Series

Nintendo will need a follow up game to carry the system and all of its release hype into the holiday season. Here's to hoping Metroid Prime is the game.

Re: Random: EA Executive is as Non-Committal to NX as Possible, PR Assistant Approves

White-Wash

EA is strictly in the buisness to make as much money as possible. Many of us have writen them off due to their money grabbing antics, and rightfully so. On the other hand EA not supporting the NX would likely be a sign of the Nx's success.. If there's money to be made, you bet they'll show up with open arms. If not, we'll see another Wii U scenario.

Also this article really doesn't say much at all about EAs support of the NX..

Re: Poll: Nintendo Has Laid Out Its Legend of Zelda E3 Plans - Are They Enough?

White-Wash

A part of me feels that a select group of gaming fans brought this type of E3 upon themselves. With the recent backlash starting last years E3, federation force and paper Mario petitions, Zelda being delayed, etc.. It's no wonder they'd rather skip a direct showcasing a weak lineup. I'd imagine they've decided the scrutiny of no direct is better than an absurdly weak one.

Nintendo is holding its hand on the NX and we all have to deal with the fact that the wii u is basically being put to rest. We also know NX launch is March of next year. Which means there will be plenty of exciting news through out 2016. I feel like Nintendo is being much more strategic with the NX launch compared to the wii U. And while the recent announcements have been dissapointing, I optimistic Nintendo is thinking long term here. To me these are all good signs, as crazy as that may seem.

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Franchises Do You Most Want to See With the NX Launch?

White-Wash

Nintendo Consoles always release with a core Mario game, but the New 2d Super Mario series has become about as stale as it can get. Along with the release of Mario Maker giving fans an unlimited 2d fix, I hope Nintendo can see this is not the right path.. Sure some type of 3d World NX could be fun, but I think the real potential sits with a Galaxy or Sunshine sequel!

The more I think about it the more a Galaxy 3 sounds like the perfect way to kick off the system. The series has laid dormant for half a decade and could play off a hint of nostalgia. Pulling back all the fans who skipped the Wii U but loved their original Wii.

As for the other games, if the NX is released within the next year or so, I'd love a Twilight princess esq event. And out of pure speculation and with zero game design/coding knowledge, it seems like a very real possibility with how long the new zelda has been pushed back with zero updates on its whereabouts. I'd just hope a cross over zelda wouldn't hinder its potential on the NX while initially being developed for the Wii U if this comes to light.

As for the 3rd game I'd imagine they would want to stagger their blockbuster games through out the year. This leaves room for an F-zero/Wave Race/Luigis Mansion type game. All of which I would love to see reach the NX.

I don't know anymore though. It seems the potential is there to come out strong with the NX. But my expectations have been cut short so often over the past 2 years with Nintendo, I can't help but be a bit cynical about it all. Cheers to hoping they prove all the nay sayers wrong!

Re: The Game Lineup for EVO 2016 Has Been Announced

White-Wash

Funny, the only aggression I see in these comments is all directed towards melee fans.. Anyways as a huge Evo fan that plays zero fighting games; can't wait for the street fighter, guilty gear, melee, and now pokken! Very excited for July to roll on through

Re: Feature: Time to Vote for Your Nintendo Life Game of the Year Awards 2015

White-Wash

Wow voting made me realize how little of what Nintendo had to offer resonated with me this year.. I'm sure splatoon is an amazing game, but I put down the fps'ers a couple years ago. SMM was gold for the first month, but they really fell short at creating an active and engaging community imo.. Woolly world was my most enjoyed considering I've only bought 2 2015 games this year. I'll be grabbing xenoblade and fast racing neo in the next week so that'll bump a bit at the end of the year. But man that's a pretty sad line up if you ask me..

Luckily I had some catching up to do from last year. 100% run on 3d world, shovel knight, and Pokemon x/sapphire all helped fill in this gap of a year. Oh and the dkc trilogy was an awesome throw back too

Re: Poll: Which Characters Do You Want to Win the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot?

White-Wash

I feel like K. Rool and Banjo both have a legit chance. I know I put my vote in for K. Rool! Banjo, Shovel Knight, Beyonetta, Geno, Captian Toad, Professor E. Gadd, T.T, etc.. Would all be awesome too! The etc. goes for any runner that's never made it into the Smash roster before.

I'm sure there are plenty of fans out there who feel cheated that their fav character never made it back (ie Snake) and that's a bummer for sure. But I'd so much rather see a new challenger appear!

Re: Iwata: Nintendo NX Will Surprise People And Change Their Video Gaming Lives

White-Wash

Just please no VR Nintendo.. Not that I'm against VR by any means. I actually can't wait for the technology to reach a point where its easily accessible and marketed to the general public in a way that blows everyones minds. I think Nintendo would fall short of its debut potential..

I'm somewhat excited for the innovation.. I guess? I just hope we're not hit with yet another gimmick. Which would actually still be fine if they managed to do everything else correctly. Bump the specs to respectable levels, sell more units. That seems to be how the market works now a days. Not that I agree with that, but these past few years has proved it.

Also can we please get some type of online platform that's actually suitable for the times? The more I think about how low the standards are with the Miiverse the more frustrated I get. It's 2015.. You're online game play is sub-par at best. Something is wrong when Mario Party is still single player, Smash has basically 2 online battle options (without creating a room), your platformers are still local co-op, and you can't even join a party with a few friends in Mario Kart to take on the world.. Fix these problems first and you can throw whatever else you want in along with it. I want to see you succeed, really! Just get the essentials done first before you look too far ahead please

Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?

White-Wash

I think this is going to be a very interesting next few years to watch unfold for Nintendo. A very telling few years as well. Never before have I had so many unanswered questions with the future of of Nintendo. Its both exciting and a bit scary.

How will Nintendo treat the Wii U / N3DS from here on out?
What's in store with the new Membership Program?
The future of Nintendo entering the smartphone market?
Countless questions on NX?

Will Nintendo finally get in touch and connect with core fans?
Will the E-shop finally step up its classic gaming (n64,gc,etc)?
The future of Amiibos/cards?
Will Nintendo overcome its marketing woos?
Will Nintendo attempt to avoid previous failures with reaching supply demand in the West? Or is this going to become a broken record on Nintendo failing to deliver?

The list can go on and on. On one hand I'm very concerned. As much as I've loved the products released on both the Wii U and 3ds, I keep seeing a growing disconnect through Nintendo and their fans. I feel like I keep getting let down over and over.. But I'll hold faith since I've been with them since their console beginnings and look at this as an opportunity for Nintendo to really turn things around and make a glorious leap in the right direction!

Re: Guide: Everything We Know So Far About Nintendo's Deal With DeNA, Smart Device Plans and More

White-Wash

As long as this doesn't effect the quality or quantity of games released on their next home or portable console, than for strictly selfish reasons I should have no problem with this. I don't enjoy mobile gaming, therefore I won't participate. Simple as that.

But aside from that initial concern, a deeper, non selfish, fanboy part of me feels like this is cheapening the brand of Nintendo. As if they're pimping out my beloved characters to a scummy market of low quality games for easy cash.. It doesn't feel right. Will also be quite upset if they attempt some type of forced integration with consoles. Or even reward/dlc perks along the lines of amiibos.

I think this is so unsettling because I really have no clue how Nintendo is going to handle this. Their games of late have been top notch and I love them for that. But their disconnect with the fans as is getting a bit hard to stomach. Throw this into the mix and it can go 2 ways in my eyes. They pull it off, creating a sub market that remains relatively detached from their future console plans. This partnership earns Nintendo all sorts of money, they finally capture a demographic they were failing to reach before, life goes on and everyone is happy. Or they go against everything their loyal fans have been screaming at them, loose their core audience, and either crumble or become a shell of what Nintendo used to be. The latter so terrible to imagine its put us all on edge while watching this go down. Lets all just hope for the best!

Re: Poll: Which 2015 Nintendo Blockbusters Should Have amiibo Support?

White-Wash

I can't help but feel like I was sold a false bill of goods when Amiibo's were first announced. And maybe it was just my mind running with the thought of what could be. Don't get me wrong I love the handful of Amiibo's I purchased, they're great figurines that look pretty awesome on my gaming shelf. And at this point the in game content is a nice little bonus; although I still feel the support is a bit underwhelming..

And as time passed and they began to take their form, I've realized what I first envisioned for Amiibo's would of actually made me far more disappointed. I enjoy the angle of digital treats held within your figurine, this adds a whole other level to them.

I think my gripe at this point (aside from the availability) is how they were marketed to be something more than they are. And how short they've fallen on the content end of things thus far. Than again maybe the support will pickup now that devs have seen what a hit they've been, along with a the cheaper card versions hitting the market this year. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Nintendo Unleashes Commercials and Minigame Videos for Mario Party 10

White-Wash

Seems as how I just moved out of state, the only way I'll be picking this up is if there's a viable online option. And since I've yet to see this mentioned, I'm definitely keeping my expectations low this time around..

I know it'd be tough to keep players from leaving this type of game early, especially those sitting in last place. But I still think it could be done. Consequences that encourage you to stick around. Both good and bad. A reward system where even last place still earns points/stars/coins. Use these incentives to purchase new skins or atheistic character accessories? Or to unlock certain types of online game modes/leagues? Also implementing a timeout penalty, one a similar to SSB but a bit more harsh. I know shoty internet connections and dropped games could interfere with this, but if done correctly than it shouldn't be an issue. Plus if you're connection is to the point where you're always dropping games, well you probably shouldn't be online with this one than.

These are just some randomly thought up quick ideas. If Nintendo really wanted to they could make it work, I just have a feeling they're going to let another Mario Party slip by without it.

Re: Mario Kart 8 DLC Still Set for May as Online eShop Purchases are Offered in Japan

White-Wash

Oh damn and here I was thinking the MK8 DLC was in March.. Hmmm this is a bit too long of a gap in my opinion, It'd of held the momentum if released in early January. If I didn't purchase both as a packaged deal already, I'd honestly be on the fence of picking up the 2nd DLC.

But since the deal was too good to pass up, well I get to enjoy the new set of tracks whenever they drop next

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th February (North America)

White-Wash

See how easy it is to make $25 Nintendo! Although I think I'll be buying 1 than 2 than 3 as I chug my way through the DKC trilogy. I figure this will help keep me focused on beating the game at hand without skipping around the 3. Very excited this finally hit NA!

Re: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Director Teases "Small Surprise" for All amiibo in the Game, Discusses Sources of Inspiration

White-Wash

I'm so conflicted with amiibos lately.. Don't get me wrong I have a hand full of my favorite characters for the figurine aspect. And it's cool when minor content is added to games (mii suits in MK8 for example). But when a specific character is required for substantial content (extra tasks of finding pixel Toads in levels), well I have no interest in spending $13 on a toad Amiibo and the bonus content isn't worth the loot either..

Maybe this is where the amiibo cards will come into play yea? As silly as I find them.. It'd actually be great if Nintendo were to provide an In-system (?) digital figurine that was logged to your Wii U/3ds with a card purchase. I keep picturing these cards in their latter states.. Lets say 2 years down the line with an occasional crease or warn edges; almost gross looking. Or maybe I'll have to invest in some plastic protectors. So many maybes with these Amiibos..!

Re: Feature: The Heartwarming Tale of a Missing 3DS and a Stranger's Kindness

White-Wash

I'd like to think the majority of people out there, even here in America, would have attempted to return the 3ds instead of keeping it. Or maybe I'm a bit optimistic? I just couldn't imagine knowing that every time you opened up 'your' (and i use that word lightly) newly found 3ds that it would be at the expense of someone else's $$; let alone knowing how bummed they'd be.

I think some people really underestimate how good it feels to help others out. You'd get a much richer experience in returning a lost 3ds and buying your own rather than stealing someone else's.

Love the story though, it just goes to prove all this! Feels good man..

Re: Adventure Bar Story is Your Typical RPG and Pub Management Experience

White-Wash

Hmm looks pretty fun actually. I'm busy running through my Club Nintendo Rewards right now; with Xenoblade, Wolly World, Zelda, and Star Fox on the horizon I'm going to be plenty pressed for time..

Although with spring/summer around the corner one of my favorite things to do is set up a hammock or game before a nights sleep while camping. So I'll have to find some solid titles on the 3ds to keep me busy! Feels great to have so many game options

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Apex Champion Calls For Unity in Competitive Smash Scene

White-Wash

I was turned on to Smash by the Smash Brothers Documentary Series. Watching a community form from the ground up was incredibly interesting. With the community itself being very unique. Although I can't help but notice the role that hazing played in the early years and how it's fused into the foundation of the scene.

I don't really know what to think of it. On one hand it makes for very entertaining and almost hostile matches at times, bringing back full round to the uniqueness. And I feel like if this was taken away, well obviously the smash scene wouldn't be what it is today.

On the other hand you have to deal with this sort of classlessness at times. I've noticed that many of the core members have learned to walk a fine line, which I actually love. It adds character to the tournaments. But those who haven't quite figured out how to do this, that go to far.. They can make the community look pretty terrible sometimes. And people wonder why Nintendo has been so hesitant to hop on board the competitive scene with this game.

Re: 2D Platformer Mekazoo Swinging onto Wii U Later This Year

White-Wash

DKC and Sonic mix for sure! Would love to demo a level before purchasing to see how it plays. Just a few concerns..

The level designs seem to lack atmosphere for some reason. Maybe its hard to convey through a trailer, but in watching I kept getting the feeling of 'Same level, different skin' if that makes sense? Also the music was pretty bad for my taste..

But concerns aside I'm definitely interested and will be following!

*Edit: After watching the trailer a few more times I have to say it has grown on me already. There seemed to be too much going on my first time through to take it all in. Excited to see more on this!

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Franchises Should be Produced as TV Shows?

White-Wash

I just can't see live action shows doing justice to any of these games.. Maybe its the fact that I've been disappointed with almost every Live action movie that's attempted to make a run with a video game. For some reason animation to real life always clashes with me.

On the other hand I would love to see a Metroid or F-zero (after a new game release of course*) anime series! I think star fox would fit well too.

While Super Mario, Kirby, and Donkey Kong would work great with a revamped Saturday morning cartoon feel. I could see Splatoon working as well, although I have zero attachment or knowledge of any characters. A Cartoon series would be an interesting way to build this?

Strangely enough I honestly think Zelda would fit best as a live action tv series. Although I still completely dislike the idea..

Re: Review: Gunman Clive 2 (3DS eShop)

White-Wash

Missed the first.. But with that review and for that price I'm sold. I'm still stuck on $3.. I pay more for a beer with my meal, hell I pay more for a happy meal! Can't wait to try this out.
