Seattle-based indie developer The Good Mood Creators has announced the upcoming release of Mekazoo, an absolutely stunning 2D platformer for Nintendo Wii U. While an official date has yet to be revealed, this is definitely one to keep on your radar if you're a fan of side-scrolling platforming action.
The finer plot details have not been revealed, but we do know that the story revolves around an armadillo who must save his animal friends and defeat the invading insectoids. Featuring five unlockable mechanized animals as playable characters, each with their own abilities useful in dashing and swinging through the terrain, the gameplay places an emphasis on platforming and speed. From the gameplay to the visuals and soundtrack, the trailer makes it look like a blend between classic Sonic the Hedgehog and Rayman Legends, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
If that doesn't sound enticing enough, give this quote from creative director Jarrett Slavin a read, then watch the gameplay trailer below:
Mekazoo is inspired by the platformer classics we spent every second with after school, like Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country. We are combining all the lessons learned from those masterpieces and the innovative ideas we've spent decades brainstorming to deliver the game we wish existed since we were kids.
So, is this now on your radar?

Definitely on my radar.
looks kinda like older sonic games
hm.. intresting looks quite fun
@Tsurii897 My thoughts exactly. I love 2D platformers, but I couldn't be less interested after watching that trailer.
I have one problem with this game iit is not coming to the 3ds
Wow, this looks like a lot of fun.
@Tsurii897 I understand what you're saying, but I think that has more to do with the fact that it's a trailer (short clips) of a fast-paced platformer. I don't think that means you need to eat Lucky Charms and Mountain Dew in order to enjoy it.
It mentioned Donkey Kong Country, it's automatically on my radar.
All kidding aside, though, this one is looking good. Definitely seems right up my alley.
Looks similar to Donkey Kong, but in a good way.
This is definitely in my radar now.
Too much swinging!
@sketchturner Totally agree, for me it's gotta be Dr. Pepper and Captain Crunch. This could be a lot of fun though, I'm keeping it on my radar for sure.
I'm not sure about this. The visuals are impressive, but the platforming seems kinda chaotic. I'll keep an eye out, though.
This looks amazing! Definitely keeping an eye out for it.
After watching that trailer I can definitely say that the game IS on my radar now! And with very nice music to boot!
Wow. This looks surprisingly good. Nice mix of DKC and Sonic. It is officially on my radar.
Another game to put on my Wii U watchlist for when I finally get a Wii U
looks very interesting, I don't see anything wrong with the music as long as it has variety
DKC and Sonic mix for sure! Would love to demo a level before purchasing to see how it plays. Just a few concerns..
The level designs seem to lack atmosphere for some reason. Maybe its hard to convey through a trailer, but in watching I kept getting the feeling of 'Same level, different skin' if that makes sense? Also the music was pretty bad for my taste..
But concerns aside I'm definitely interested and will be following!
*Edit: After watching the trailer a few more times I have to say it has grown on me already. There seemed to be too much going on my first time through to take it all in. Excited to see more on this!
This is what Sonic should be like... cough sonic boom cough...
Definitely looks interesting, but I had to turn the sound off. That music was giving me a headache. Other than the music, this looks pretty cool!
I'll keep an eye on this game.
Screenshots one to seven and nine to twelve looks horizontally stretched to about 19:9 aspect ratio. How has this happened?
Right up my alley!
Looks great!
Like others said, it does look and behave like DK. It is to DKKR as Far Cry Blood Dragon is to Far Cry 3.
However, It seems to be too challenging for me.
Those complaining about the music should take a second... hearing?
After the 0:33 I swear it sounds a lot like the child of Donkey Kong and Rayman.
I LOVE good platformers, but this looks just... bad!
It's 2.5D, not 2D.
Nitpicking aside, this looks REALLY good! Like a combination of Sonic Colours and Rayman Legends/Origins. The music reminds me of Sonic 3 (especially that "come on!") crossed with Rayman 3 and a bit of Mario when that jazzy bit comes in!
This looks good! I'm excited
reminds me of sonic definitely, looks like great fun, the 2.5D style reminds me of pandemonium, even if the game is completely different. Looking forward to this!
Looks pretty rad
That looks AMAZING I really really liked the music as well; it felt like Big band + Techno, which are two of my fav genres of music. The camera moves slowly enough to make sense too.
Looks pretty nice, but its VERY zoomed out!
Crazy looking levels! Looks like a lot of fun.
But the character seems quite small and hard to see.
Hopefully it ain't bad when you're actually playing it.
