Nintendo UK is in the middle of a national tour around shopping malls, promoting current and upcoming releases on Wii U and 3DS. One promotion it's been running at events has been to give out free codes for Photos with Animal Crossing, an AR app for the 3DS that allows you to snap pics with some of your favourite animals.
It's the same basic concept as the AR cards you receive free with your system, most directly familiar with the previous limited-distribution Photos With Mario app.
Nintendo UK has decided to send copies out to plenty of 3DS owners that aren't attending any of its tour events. If you're on the Nintendo Newsletter mailing list you may have the following email waiting for you with a download code.
All of this is partly in promotion for Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, of course, which has been a sales success so far in Japan and arrives in the West soon.

I sure hope this gets a standard release in the North American Nintendo eShop eventually like they did with the Photos With Mario app.
SCREW YOU REGGIE
@ianolivia Stop complaining, you have Photos with Super Mario, which we are still to recieve.
@Scary_Old_Lady Half of the content is unavailable. Also, you got a non-terrible localization of Splatoon and it is even cheaper.
@Scary_Old_Lady I forgot about that.
I'll give this a try, because it's FREE.
Well, if I get the email. Which I probably won't.
Can't wait for it to never come out in my country!
Are they for REAL right now?? They advertised it as an 'event exclusive', so I planned and purchased train tickets to London for tomorrow to get what I thought would be a rare, event exclusive game code and AR set, and now everybody has them. While it's obviously a good thing for people that can't make the events, they shouldn't have advertised it as event exclusive if there was a possibility that it wouldn't be…
@NinRyan Train Tickets to London tomorrow? First Great Western?
@NinRyan You get the AR cards that are of high quality - we have to print them [on paper]. I'd be pissed off too, but, hey, you can try out Super Mario Maker (or whatever else is available)!
@Scary_Old_Lady If you're referring to the strike, wasn't that postponed?
@buildz It's just I'm going to London tomorrow on FGW. Didn't know of this event, maybe I should go. Where is it?
@Scary_Old_Lady
Here;
Westfield London
Location: 4006, Ariel Way, London, W12 7GF
Time: 09:00 - 17:00
@buildz Thanks. Near Paddington as well, very useful positioning there.
@buildz Yeah, that's true. I love my good quality AR Cards! And I'm also looking forward to playing Super Mario Maker (for like 5 minutes because my girl will get Super bored), so it's not like it's a wasted journey at all.
@buildz Just making sure, it's the Westfield down the road from the old BBC Television Centre, right?
This better come out in Australia, or I'll go all Resetti on their collective behinds.
@Scary_Old_Lady not sure, I know hardly anything about trains to London and stuff so I gave my mum the money and she booked them haha
@NinRyan Yep. http://prntscr.com/895ysp (Google Maps image)
This certainly was a pleasant surprise, look forward to trying it.
This really is a fun little application. I have it on my Japanese 3DS and it's good for a bit of entertainment.
Any idea where exactly the Nintendo Event is? I remember going to London for the Wii U preview event in Westfield Stratford, that was hard to find.
I was able to get twelve sets of these Photos with Animal Crossing AR Cards from the event itself. I really do love my high quality AR Cards.
That is like 36 Photos with Animal Crossing AR Cards in total.
I hope we can get this in America
@NinRyan You can still get the limited edition Super Mario 30th Anniversary Pin Badge at the event.
I'll trade a 3ds club nintendo theme for this, hit me if you're interested.
Slightly off-topic, but is there any word on Canada getting Photos with Mario? If I recall correctly we didn't get it here for some reason.
cool
@Captain_Gonru Well at least you didn't talk them into a PSPgo.
Are you talking anybody into getting a Wii U for AC:aF?
I like free. And I like Nintendo sending out things via email. And I suppose the US will get something similar when the time comes. We have several of those Mario AR eShop cards but I don't think we ever used them. I did get that really big Mario AR card, ,or elike a poster, from club Nintnedo for my kids one Christmas and we took several photos w/ Mario in front of the Christmas tree. Wonder if I could find those? Or the big board?
Nintendo Australia never get us these things
@Alundra-1998 Oh, really? Are they just giving them out?!
I have these cards, it was an event in my country so I picked them up and they are AMAAAZING! Pyrrhon.
@NinRyan Yeah they are. You have your photo taken and then they give you one of the cards. You can try and get the other two AR Cards if you ask really politely.
@Alundra-1998 Wait, are we still talking about the Mario pin badges too?
Ooops. I thought we were on about the Animal Crossing AR Cards.
The Super Mario 30th Anniversary Pin Badges are also given out, but you will have to have a Lets SuperMario photo on the Mario block sofa.
@MadAdam81 We usually do, but we'll probably get it a few days after Europe. This app doesn't require an age classification so there's no reason why they wouldn't release it here.
I got the email with the code, and will give it a try. It doesn't seem like something that will interest me for too long.
At the Manchester event you had to practically pry the cards out of the workers' hands. They would only give out one card per person and then only if you could name all the characters on a promo leaflet and show them a system with the game installed. Pretty rubbish really considering they advertised the event saying to come and get the app and cards. The cards are too small to give good angles anyway so you are always stood over the characters from a godlike viewpoint, unless you print them on A4 and then you get a proper full-face view. Only works well in good light too, especially on an O3DS. It's fun for half an hour and then really there's nothing left to do.
@Sakura Wow... That is not how it went down at the one I went to regarding getting a Photos with Animal Crossing AR Card... :/
People are jealous of this?
It's nothing. It's so incredibly pointless. I don't know why it's a standalone app rather than an addition to the built in AR games?
Would be a cool extra for the amiibo cards but as it stands it's a 'download, play for 5 mins, never open again' kind of thing. Maybe it will update to use the cards. AR and NFC would be a fun combo
@OrangeCluster I can trade, which theme is it?
I want this!!
@Captain_Gonru Maybe AC:aF is actually a real AC game and the board game is only a small part of it. Like SMM is actually a new 2D Mario platformer and the level editor is only a small part of it.
Who has got a code for this application please ? It was very cool !
@Captain_Gonru - "So Nintendo is CAPABLE of innovating, but instead chooses to release software which so clearly exists solely to shift amiibo. It just smacks of greed, at its worst, or a disconnect with its fan base at best."
I don't know what Nintnedo is and isn't capable of anymore. They don't really need AC:aF or HHD to move amiibo as they don't make enough to make any effort to move. They make Zelda and Metroid on 3DS while we wait for Wii U Games. And Wii U still looks empty compared to Wii which had Paper Mario and Mario Sports Mix and Super Mario Strikers. Even Wii Sports Club was barely a new game, just Wii Sports in HD w/ online. And Wii Fit U was Wii Fit w/ a Fit Meter. Didn't even get a Wii Music sequel. And there aren't enough HD remakes. I and others give Sony a lot of grief for PS4 being the PS3 remaster machine, but that's b/c the games aren't improved that much like the jump from PS2 to PS3. But Wii to Wii U could go the whole HD and online route. I'm still SHOCKED no Super Mario Sunshine HD, or SMG Collection in HD. 1 game, WW HD, and that was it? And SSB for Wii U didn't even have a Subspace Emissary mode? How many people does Nintendo employ and what have they been doing? Surely not working on Starfox Zero graphics as that looks like Starfox 64 in HD more than a new game. I am impressed w/ the Wii U line-up w/ SMM and Yoshi, but Yoshi is delayed and SMM doesn't seem to have a game, looks more like a $20 DL to me. Where's Mario Universe?
I know Wii U has a decent upcoming line-up, and they are working on stuff, but it still seems like people are missing, working on NX games perhaps?
I hate this exclusivity for a promo app. It doesn't create demand, it just irritates the consumer.
