Just recently we shared the first entry in Capcom's cute Monster Hunter Training Academy series, which is introducing series newbies to the basics of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
Part one was relatively simple, but we're getting to more useful tips in the latest video uploaded on the Monster Hunter YouTube channel. This gives a basic introduction to gathering and combining resources, which is absolutely pivotal to getting ahead in the game. While it can seem boring, fastidiously hoarding items and resources right from the start can be vital for being prepared to tackle the hefty challenge that comes along later in the game.
Check it out below and let us know what you think.

These are disgustingly, wonderfully cute.
I never would have survived my Caravaneer's Challenge without combining on-site. Farcasters, Mega Potions, Max Potions, all oh so important.
That's great advice. The game guides you on making a Mega Potion in an early mission, but it's a great recipe to remember. Mega potions are very useful to have on you when you're about to battle a big monster.
If you look at the combo list in the pause menu or the chest menu in your home, the bright ???? shows items that you have all the ingredients to make. It's worth making at least one of these so that the recipe is recorded on the combo list for future reference.
I've just recently got this game but haven't played much of it yet. Just wondering how many people are playing it on an old 3ds as opposed to a 'new' 3ds?? (I have an old 3ds without the nipple button.)
@King_Johobo
Idk, alot of Monster Hunters upgraded when MH4U released.
Nonetheless, the Circle Pad Pro is a fabulous way to play. In fact I dare say it's superior to the C-Stick, although you will forfeit other great benefits such as no stable 3D and longer load times (and no posting screenshots to Miiverse).
But ya, don't worry about it. Grab a CPP and dig in!
It's time for another episode of MONSTER HUNTING WITH JAXONH
1) To be successful at this game, learn to take advantage of skills that counter the monster's offense. For example, if you're hunting a monster that poisons like Rathian or Gypceros, consider gemming in "Negate Poison" skill. Or if you're hunting a monster with Thunder attacks, eat a felyne meal for Thunder Res skill, or even gem it in with decorations. Later in the game you may want to focus on more rounded skills like Evasion and Sharpness, but for beginner hunters taking advantage of specific skills is crucial. You can save loadouts at your item box for quick preparations. Maybe save a loadout with Negate Poison skill, another with Negate Paralysis, another with Elemental Resistance, etc, and equip as needed.
2) Weapon sharpness is a vital part of dealing damage. Green sharpness grants close to the standard x1 damage, but blue offers x1.2 which is a 20% increase. Likewise, yellow drops it down to x0.75 which is a 25% DECREASE. Its easy to see why it's so important to maintain maximum sharpness. Use whetstones to sharpen your blade (don't do it near a monster- run out of the area if you have to). For maximum sustained damage, forge 5 decorations that grant +2 Sharpener skill, and equip them to activate "Speed Sharpener" skill. This skill allows you to sharpen with a single swipe instead of 4 swipes. Which is quick enough that you can do it in the same area as the monster without running off. This means less time spent away and more time dealing damage. It also means you'll find more gaps to sharpen (since it takes such little time to do) and will therefore keep your weapon sharper far more of the time.
3) Learn your weapon. Know it. And know how to perform all the commands. Dodge rolls, blocking (if applicable), all the weapon combos... But most importantly learn to safety dive. While running from a monster hit the roll button- this safety dive grants a huge invincibility period which can be used to avoid damge during attacks. You can dive through dragon breath, fireballs, even through the monster itself. As long as you are in the air, you are invincible.
This has been another episode of Monster Hunter Tips with your host, JaxonH
Zamtrios in the Volcanic Hollow, Zamtrios Rare Species is happening gaiz.
I didn't know Professor Layton was moonlighting as a Monster Hunter storyteller! I don't know why I still wait for an opening to sharpen/take a Mega Potion in the same area as G-rank Yian Garuga. That thing will chase you until you DIE.
@JaxonH you're still the greatest hunter around. Great advice! If you fancy teaming up for some G-Rank stuff soon then just let me know.
@JaxonH Good thinking! I had been contemplating on whether I should get a new 3ds but it would've been just for this game and i'm trying to save for a PS4. I didn't even think about getting a CPP but will definitely look into it. Thanks for the advice mate!
