Nintendo of America and their European counterparts have decided to have an information splurge to kick off the week, which is just fine by us.
First of all, it's confirmed that a Super Mario Maker Wii U hardware bundle will arrive in North America, as was previously announced for Europe. It's a Walmart exclusive in NA, though, and will include a 32GB system, the game, info book and 30th Anniversary Mario Modern Color amiibo for a price of $299.96, arriving on 11th September.
Now, moving onto release dates (we've left out old announcements), we've split up new details into European and North American categories.
North America
Wii U
- Star Fox Zero - 20th November ($59.99)
- Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water - 22nd October (prologue and first two chapters free, $49.99 for full game)
- Shovel Knight - October ($24.99)
- Devil's Third - 11th December ($59.99)
- New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U - 16th October ($59.99)
3DS
- Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash - 9th October ($29.99 game only, $39.99 with amiibo)
- Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon - 20th November ($39.99)
- Shovel Knight - October ($24.99)
Europe
Wii U
- Star Fox Zero - 20th November
- Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash - 20th November
- Xenoblade Chronicles X - 4th December
It's worth noting that Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash has a 'Holiday' window in North America. We'll be covering some announcements for Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival and others separately, though that Wii U AC title still has a 'Holiday' window. The fact that there's no retail special edition for Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water in North America, as it's eShop-only, may also disappoint some considering the limited edition available in Europe.
It's nice to see some dates pinned down, though. What are you looking forward to the most?

$60 for Star Fox Zero?!
It is also a bit of a shame that Fatal Frame is digital only too.
: (
StarFox Zero for sure!
Why Walmart why must you have the modern Mario in a WII U BUNDLE!?$
Not getting Fatal Frame now... No space left
I guess I'll have to pick up a hard drive eventually for Fatal Frame since I'm running low on space.
Is Fatal Frame going to get another run in physical format on Nintendo UK store or Amazon etc? If not then I'll just go without. Nintendo once again under producing.
I guess all these announcements means no direct for this year, which whilst understandable is still disheartening. I really hope directs survive this
I either completely missed something but I didn't expect mario tennis to hit so soon?
In other news, "this information was not shared with you through a direct".
Nothing NoA does anymore surprised me. At least we are getting the game (Fatal Frame) as oppose to nothing at all.
Those surprised about Star Fox's price need to remember that Splatoon was also full retail price here as well but not even close to that in Europe. If they haven't announced a price yet I wouldn't be surprised to see it about 20$ cheaper.
Hrrrm...I don't think we're getting a Direct this year...
$60 for an arcade shooter with no online? HOW BOUT NO!!!
@DiscoGentleman Read the article. They said they're leaving out old announcements.
Wow, what a understated way to announce the end of the year.
Admittedly I'm still more excited for Mario Maker, Tri Force Heroes, Chibi Robo, Star Fox and Xenoblade than anything coming to my newly purchased, rarely plugged in PS4.
@manu0 They always make these kinds of announcements at this time of the year, there's still been Nintendo Directs.
Also, keep in mind these are just the games with newly announced release dates, not the entire holiday lineup. Nintendo's actually releasing a decent amount of games in the upcoming months.
@PokeMario For Europe they also announced New Style Boutique 2 and Giant Yarn Yoshi amiibo, details for AC festival and release dates for some amiibo...Soo...
I'm kinda surprised to see Star Fox coming so soon. My gut feeling was that this would be pushed back till after Christmas. The game footage looked a little too unpolished for me. Also no Physical Fatal Frame makes me very sad.
I played Mario Tennis demo at a uk Nintendo event and can tell you that it's FANTASTIC!!! It's like Mario kart...frantic, competitive and great fun!!
So pleased to have an actual date for it. Highly recommend this one to you all
Nice to get some release dates. It looks like Star Fox Zero really is "the game" for fall/winter 2015. I'm not completely sold on it though.
I'm sure Mario Maker will keep me busy for a while anyway.
Got my Fatal Frame preordered and there were rumours of an Arwing Amiibo so wouldn't be surprised on a special bundle. Xenoblade and Mario Maker also in my sights while awaiting more Intel of Devil's Third though intrigued enough by it to keep it mind. The "poor graphics" quip going round doesn't bother me I the slightest.
Why would they release two games in one day when there's been no games most of the year. On the same week as Star Wars Battlefront too.
I'll get Star Fox if it comes up for the frequent £25 price point but otherwise I'll wait. Kirby, Yoshi and Splatoon were available for under £20 within weeks. Xenoblade I'll happily pay £40 for.
@manu0 Well I don't know about no ND this year, but yeah that's a lot of info to just put out there on a Monday morning. I think we will get a Tree house special around 9/10 for SMM, and maybe another for Yoshida in Oct, but ND may indeed be no more.
@DiscoGentleman Yeah, TW said new anounces only, but I also would have prefer ed XCX Dec 4th and Yoshi Oct 16th as it made me wonder about Mario Tennis, which he did mention after that. I guess that's why guys like us are here, to fill in the blanks.
@Spoony_Tech Splaton was $60, and a level editor in search of a game SMM is also $60. I do think Yoshi is only $50 though on Amazon, but they probably expect us all to buy 4 YoshI amiibo - 3 colors and the big one. So yeah, Star fox was always going to be $60.
@Peach64 Where are you getting Wii U games that cheap? I'd genuinely love to know!
Let me get this straight: Fatal Frame is getting a nice LE edition in Europe, but no disc version at all in the US; while Devil's Third, which they didn't even want to publish, will have a physical release here?!
Nintendo of America is a blight on this company. Just incompetent.
Finally, solid NA release dates for Devil's Third and Fatal Frame. Perfect timing, the WiiU is going to get played a lot once October rolls around.
SFZ's date sounds a bit early. Eh, whatever.
Swore out loud on reading that Fatal Frame is digital-only in North America.
I'm out. NoA has totally lost my support.
Fatal Frame being digital only is no worry for me; I picked up a 1TB HDD years ago for my Wii U.
So, it looks like FF and Devil's Third will be the last Wii U titles for me and then it's all about NX after that.
Shame about not getting retail for Fatal Frame, but at least a portion of the game is free to try.
@manu0 In 2013 they announced a Wii U price drop, Wind Waker HD bundle, and the 2DS, on top of all the release dates. There were still Nintendo Directs after that.
@FragRed GAME have it for pre-order if that helps.
@FragRed GAME have it in stock
And Fatal Frame isn't available at retail...I need to get an sd card soon...
So no Xenoblade Chronicles for 2015 for America. It looks like Fallout 4 will be getting more of RPG time then.
@Smash_kirby What are you talking about? They gave the release date for X during the E3 presentation everyone was so busying complaining about. 12/4/15.
Disappointed about fatal frame but it is niche....I may buy the Japanese copy as well to have a physical box on the shelf. Will tell my bro about the wiiu bundle. Getting Devil's third and Star Fox. Between these, yoshi, xenoblade and Fallout 4 I'm set for the year. Plus new TAIKO NO TATSUJIN!!!!
Living in Europe has one nice thing: getting the special edition of Project Zero/Fatal Frame! Sorry for Americans though, Nintendo being daft once again.
@RainbowGazelle @A01 TheGameCollection have had Yoshi, Kirby and Splatoon for pre-order at £24.99, and they've had Yoshi and Kirby up for £19.99 several times since they came out.
I think Nintendo might have re-printed quite a lot of titles lately as Tropical Freeze is new for £28 at TGC, Wonderful 101 is new for under £18 at Amazon and Pikmin 3 is available at them both new for £30, where all 3 titles were hard to get an expensive a year ago.
Super Mario Maker might be my first Wii U retail game download, but I want to know how much does is weigh first, I'm not attaching a HDD to the Wii U for one game. Does anybody know?
I wonder if Fatal Frame will come out on disc format later on, after all chapters are added? Sometimes companies do this with games, so here's hoping for a physical copy of it. It would be nice if they did, just to show that the Wii U is getting some love, and adding a horror title to the other titles out in stores, would give it a little help...maybe...in sales, considering that we haven't officially gotten a new one in the series since the PS2 days...it's also a shame that North America never got part 4 in the series.
@Peach64 Thanks for the info!
I'm not pre-ordering Star Fox & Mario Tennis because I'm waiting for possible special editions or bundles with amiibo or controllers.
I´m amazed at how people take download only versions so lightly, specially coming from nintendo with their poor infrastructure and policy with downloads. Im super sad that fatal frame is download only, I like what I buy to be mine, specially if I pay full retail price, if its a game i like a lot I wanna come back in lets say 10 years take it out of the boy and still be able to play it. If the console dies, and theres no online version to download it again to a new console u are f*** up! Downloads even tho they have their servers costs, I understand that, should be a third of a retail price.. thats the only way I would be ok with it i guess... so yes, aparently Fatal Frame for me will be 2 chapters and a prologue long!!! yaaay!!
Nintendo knows when Black Friday is, right? They're releasing 2 games AFTER the big shopping day: Xenoblade X and Devils Third.
@A01 I NEEEEEEED THATTT YOSHIIII AMIIIIBOOOOOOOOOO
Oh look... there is our special Amiibo!
Stupid.
So I will try Fatal Frame's extended demo, and start saving my pennies for Xenoblade Chronicles X and Super Mario Maker. As much as I like Splatoon, I am still hesitant to buy shooters on a console without a large Single Player mode because servers on consoles tend to disappear (or the audience does).
@Ryu_Niiyama Oh I just saw that on another site, well then I have more time for Fallout for the time being then anyways.
They had better release it in a separate game + Amiibo bundle. I need this to match my 3D Sprite Mario dice sculpture...
@A01 Sounds good.
@FreakFerrett You are right, Nintendo is prehistoric, I hope they change that soon. I downloaded lots of games on my 3DS (including retail games) and I don't want to think what would happen if the system is broken or whatever.
We all should complain about that so Nintendo enters the 21st century in 2016.
I've seen so many people out and about complain about Super Mario Maker and Star Fox Zero being $60, that they won't pay that price. Nothing to anybody here, I mean in person, out in public... I'm astonished. What has the world come to? These are first party, full fledged Nintendo games. Of course they're $60. They are going to be for a long time. Super Mario Maker is a legit Mario game, with power ups and assets never before seen in an official release. You build, upload and download an endless amount of levels. Its probably enough sidescrolling Mario to end the franchise. Lol. Which I'm sure there will be a NSMB or something for the NX, but I'm just saying... This ain't Minecraft, this is Mario Lost Levels Paint 2.0 Ultra. Lol
Omg... Digital only for project zero, why NoA !?
Too bad, I'll have to skipt this game
@VR32F1END I pre-ordered Super Mario Maker for €45. €45 seems to be the MSRP in Europe from what I can tell.
Time to finally get a hard drive for my wiiu. I really want fatal frame but not happy what so ever that we are only getting a digital version I wish they would as least do a limited retail release.
...
I'm cancelling my Mario Maker preorder.
No more Nintendo games on day one for me. Other than Zelda U. Maybe.
@NintyMan : I'm fascinated by what Starfox might be. The game looks sparse from what I've seen, but if it's their major holiday monster, there must be a lot they are not showing.
Let's see... I work at a Walmart, so finding the bundle ain't a problem.
Only problem is I don't need another console...
@VR32F1END - I'm in complete agreement. There is far too much whinging on the prices of games. The cost of PS4/XBOT games are a lot higher than Wii U, and when one considers inflation, Wii U games are darn cheap. I remember paying £39.99 for the very first Zelda game, Nintendo's flagship games are still that price. But I also appreciate different people have different budgets and may not be able to afford a lot of console games, but at least Nintendo provide the cheapest.
That being said, we UK gamers are fortunate that we don't have the ridiculous exclusive nonsense that the States have, where games & Amiibo are restricted to two stores, from what is reported on this site. The RRP for Nintendo games is £39.99 here in the UK, on Nintendo's official site, but they can be purchased a lot cheaper from other independent stores. However, I would gladly pay £39.99 for Nintendo's games if that was my only option - but just for retail.
Well why not: let's get rid of the last bunch of idiotic things that "someone"'s era left, and then from 2016 on, a new age for Nintendo will start!
Why are people complaining about prices? Games are 60 bucks on the one and four as well...
PSA:Gaming is an expensive hobby. Please keep that in mind before you start.
@drkdtvngr @BigBlooper Thanks a lot! Was worried I missed out. Just placed my order now! Not that it matters but do you know if they are like Amazon and take payment upon shipment with pre orders?
@Zach777 Hard Drive?
So in Review:
North America: The Wii U has Super Mario Maker, LEGO Dimensions, and Skylanders in September, Guitar Hero, Just Dance, and Yoshi in October, Star Fox in November, and Xenoblade X and Devil's Third in December. The 3DS has Happy Home Designer in September, Triforce Heroes and Chibi-Robo in October, and Yokai Watch and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon in November.
Europe: The Wii U has Super Mario Maker, LEGO Dimensions, and Skylanders in September, Guitar Hero and Just Dance in October, Star Fox and Mario Tennis in November, and Xenoblade X in December. The 3DS has Triforce Heroes and Happy Home Designer in October, and Chibi Robo in November.
There are enough noteworthy games, but only Mario Maker is a very big deal for either platform. Its bundle is solid, but I can't help but wonder when there will be a price cut. Star Fox could end up surprising us, but it has not been quite that impressive yet.
The 3DS situation in particular is worrying. The 3DS hasn't had a terrible year, but the only big hits since 2014 have been Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Majora's Mask 3D. Compared to the holidays of 2011, which had 3D Land and MK7, 2013, which had Pokemon X/Y and Link Between Worlds, and 2014, which had Pokemon remakes and Super Smash Bros, Chibi Robo and Happy Home Designer look niche. And if you noticed how I didn't mention 2012, remember how Western 3DS sales were lower for Holiday 2012 than 2011 or 2013.
WTF why is Star Fox Zero and Mario Tennis Ultra Smash being released on the same day Nintendo!? I'll have to get Star Fox Zero on release day and I'll get Mario Tennis Ultra Smash later.
@HyrulianOfHyrule I honestly think the classic mario is kinda ugly, withe green and all. But they both function the same, don't stress it.
@FreakFerrett : I assume Nintendo will talk about this very situation, and an account based system in a Direct in the Fall. Nintendo isn't Valve, so everything could just go away.
@abe_hikura There just release dates and a bundle we already knew about. Not E3 worthy in my opinion. Nintendo is still gonna have a direct this October.
@manu0 this is just release dates and a bundle. Not E3 worthy. We are still getting a direct in October.
@rjejr these ate just a bunch of release dates. Directs have more details on the games content, so this isn't direct worthy. We're still getting a direct in October tho
Is there going to be an amiibo/game combo? I'll be pissed if not
@FragRed When shipped
@Squid_Gangster Who's talking about E3?!
Wow. I forgot all about Triforce Heroes this year... I'll have to buy two copies as it is. My fiance really wants a Zelda 3DS... Do you guys think there will be a Triforce Heroes "new" XL here in NA?
@PokeMario true dat. Plus, we are getting another direct in October
@BigBlooper Thanks for the help.
@Zach777 Somebody, get him a flashdrive!
I hate this time of year because you realize just how many games you need to get. These games include Star Fox Zero, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Shovel Knight, Halo 5, and Battlefront (gulps).
@FragRed I'm sure Scalpers had a hand in it too. Now that the amiibo bubble has more or less burst over here at least, no doubt a lot of them eyed this limited edition as their next payday.
@rjejr
"and maybe another for Yoshida in Oct, but ND may indeed be no more."
Told you your autocorrect is biased
Thought you would be happier about having so many dates together. Guess you are either grumpy or not grumpy, lol.
-
I thought every Chibi Robo copy would include the amiibo. Some pretty good games there too so no complaints.
Digital Only for Fatal Frame is not too surprising since its arguably a lower risk approach
@OlicityBlows They never fully dismissed an online mode, might come further down the line. It's nintendo's big holiday game, plus it's going to have a lot of voice acting, something most other nintendo games don't have.
So, nothing from here to late october and then 2 games the same day!? And fatal frame digital only..... Favourite sport at Nintendo must be foot shooting
@sinalefa Yeah, Yoshi auto corrects to Yoshida. I try to fix it but sometimes I miss it. And I am impressed by all the dates, especially Star Fox Zero Nov 20, didn't think that would see 2015 with as little as we've seen of it, but that's the right date for that game.
And I'm always grumpy, sometimes I have a good moment but it always passes quickly.
North America Wii U game releases final 4 months 2015
Super Mario Maker Sept 11
Yoshi Wooly World Oct 16
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water - 22nd October
Star Fox Zero - 20th November
Xenoblade Chronicles X Dec 4
Devil's Third - 11th December
Mario Tennis - Holiday
Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival - Holiday
You know, that's not a bad line-up, plus Skylanders has it's own amiibo versions that will sell, Now if Nitneod will cut the Wii U price to $199 - its too late for $249 to make a difference - and advertise they could sell a few games and systems.
Where's the Xenoblade Chronicles date for NA?
@Kenology it will release at the same day as europe
yes i glad that xenoblade chronicles x and star fox zero release in Europe at the same day as america
Is there an announcement for the Special Edition Mario Maker with amiibo?
Nintendo is also releasing the pokemon omega ruby starter box and pokemon alpha sapphire starter box in 30 October 2015 in europe
link:
https://cdn02.nintendo-europe.com/media/downloads/news_7/2015_2/agust/UK-Wii_U_3DS_Q3-Q4_2015_schedule.pdf
I'll wait for Nintendo to announce ROSALINA playable in Mario Tennis WiiU to pre-order. Nintendo better start confirming the playable characters soon. I want my ROSALINA playable!
Can't wait till November! Been waiting ages for the next Mario Tennis game to be released.
NoA keeps doing strange things indeed.
@Angelic_Lapras_King That's what I always thought was going to happen. It sold out so fast that I immediately assumed it had to be scalpers. I think they assumed like me, that this was to be exclusive to Nintendo UK online store which, but luckily for us consumers it wasn't. So I just bought it from Game.
If only that Mario Maker bundle was available at the Wii U's launch, could have been a totally different story. Too bad, I really like the package design though, eye catching.
60 dollars for Star Fox Zero? A game that has no online,looks like a Wii title most of the time and i don't think it has local co op! Mario Maker deserve tha price. Star fox does not in my opinion.
With all these recent announcements, I can't help but notice the absence of Nintendo Directs... Hope they still come back!
@VanillaLake @A01 Keyword there, 'purchases'. Saves not included(they say you can just use a backup of your sd card content, but it doesn't appear to be 100% safe) if you have to have them do a remote transfer, in the case of a lost system, etc.
And, hate to break it to ya, but I feel sorry for the sap who's spent a ton of time completing every streetpass mii plaza game, because apparently that doesn't transfer in a remote transfer.
I also feel sorry for someone who has the bad luck of transferring to the potential mess that is a New 3DS XL, since you can't, for some bizarre reason, transfer back manually and would, once again, have to have a remote one done.
So, if you only want your purchases(and -maybe- saves), then sure it isn't a big deal. Otherwise, tsk tsk...
$299.96? That's such a weird price. XD
...Wait, NA doesn't get a date for X?
Still no word on Rhythm Tengoku: The Best+... Just as expected...
@megumi
We got the date back at E3, its the same day as Europe
@megumi
We got the date back at E3, its the same day as Europe
@megumi
We got the date back at E3, its the same day as Europe
@megumi
We got the date back at E3, its the same day as Europe
Why are they showing a release date for Shovel Knight? I guess that's for Plague of Shadows?
@amiiboacid I don't care about any of that. In my opinion, the game just doesn't have enough content to be full priced. $50 is a much more reasonable price for a game with this amount of content.
@MetaSmasher I'm pretty sure it's the retail release date of the game.
@MrGawain I think you forgot to mention Metroid Prime Federation Force...maybe not
Nice to know the release date for Star Fox Zero! ^^ But please, please let there be plenty of stuff to do in SF0....we've been waiting for years for a new game and would hate play something that's all arcady like Star Fox 64...ugh.
Disappointed about digital only Fatal Frame. It looks like a game that Nintendo doesn't want to support. If this were the Wii days where a digital option wouldn't be possible we would need another operation rainfall in NA.
@VanillaLake @VanillaLake less than 2gb
By the look of things, my Wii U will see less and less use. Yoshi and Xenoblade are the only two I'm interested in from it. Probably a good thing I have an Xbox One coming soon.
@vonseux That's good, I'll download it although I'm a bit disappointed with its features (no verticality and no slopes).
Wow to all the people acting like a game shouldn't be $60 if it doesn't have online (ie StarFox Zero)
I can name COUNTLESS games without online and no one questions the price on those.
And good grief get over the graphics already! Do you play games to admire pixels or to enjoy the actual game? Star Fox looks fine, par for the course as far as Wii U games go. There is nothing about it that doesn't look as good as every other game on the system. This is just how Wii U games look!
I couldn't be more excited for the coming lineup. In fact I think this is the best Wii U has had to date, considering what's right around the corner in 2016 as well.
Super Mario Maker
Yoshi's Wooly World
Fatal Frame
Devil's Third
Xenoblade X
Mario Tennis Ultra Smash
SMT x Fire Emblem
followed by... Zelda U!!!
Toss in the 3DS lineup as well:
Zelda Triforce Heroes
Yokai Watch
Legend of Legacy
Stella Glow
Hyrule Warriors
Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright
Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest
Metroid Prime Federation Force
followed by... Bravely Second!!!
And similar lineups on PS4 and even Xbox One, and it's gonna be one crazy year ahead of us
@FreakFerrett
I'm more comfortable with buying digital titles on Nintendo systems than on Microsoft or Sony systems because of better security and a history of backwards compatibility.
In 10 years your disk might not even work anymore, in fact I'd be surprised if any optical based systems would still be working in 10 years.
@Smash_kirby LOL. There you go, just say you are going to play fallout...no need to blame Nintendo. I'll be in the Wasteland myself with my shinny new pip boy.
@CB85 It is that Walmart is lower priced policy they love to use. Hey you saved 4 cents at Walmart...go buy some...pocket lint.
Will the modern color Mario amiibo only be available in the Wii U bundle?
I hope that's not the case, or else I'll be super pissed off!!! >
@CaPPa True, my disk might not even work anymore, i might be dead, and many other "mights".. based on facts, probably nintendo will cut the service in favor of you buying a new service, like what happened with Wii's wi-fi. But If i take care of my discs and my sistem i probably will still play those games for a long time, as I play with my super nintendo, nintendo 64, gamecube... thats whas my point kinda, the fact that you are paying full price for a license to use somehting while if u buy a retail copy its yours.. good luck selling a digital copy..
@JaxonH I think you are missing the point with online and why people think a game without online should be cheaper. With online, you get a lot of hours of fun after you finished the story.. a game without a solid online mode has a short expiration date, how many times most user will play a campaign, probably just one. So yeah 60 dollars is a lot for a game that will out of the box give you limited fun compared to other games.. also nintendo is known for giving u a lot of content in their games, this is not the case with star fox, so yeah it might be rushed, who knows. please dont take the aprecciation you have for a franchise in mind here, its not star fox, its about every game out there and their prices..
For me, the Super Mario Maker Wii U console bundle if definitely the best Wii U bundle yet—both the content and the design of the packaging.
If I had any money at all, that bundle might even convince me to finally buy a Wii U.
@DiscoGentleman Fair enough. Sorry.
Are these sequels to the launch games of same name:
New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U - 16th October ($59.99)??!?
@StarDust4Ever Very cool.
I just looked at the bundle one more time, and I have to say, that is an excellent deal for a new Wii U owner. I wonder if it will push a significant new audience to pick it up....
I really would like game + ammibo combo pack. Nintendo of America just damn disappointing!
What's with the release date for NSMBU/ NSLU ? That came out years ago...
And now I'm not getting FF. I can't even begin to understand why you release a retail version in your worst performing market and not NA? What is wrong with you Nintendo?
I have a lot of confusion and disappointment.
First off, Fatal Frame is now definitely a skip with it being digital only. I can't believe Star Fox and Devil's Third are each full price. I thought Shovel Knight's retail copy was $19.99 (still listed as that on Amazon). And finally, I guess the NSMBU + NSLU combo must have only been available through the old Wii U bundle. I've seen plenty of copies of that floating around, but I guess they were all just used and Nintendo never released individual ones for retail until now.
Either way, none of this is exciting. I'm having a hard time believing that Star Fox is any more of a full retail Nintendo published game then say Tropical Freeze, which was always $10 below full MSRP. They're just ensuring that no one is going to buy it outside of the diehard Nintendo niche.
@Cyberbotv2 I would say so, but only if Nintendo gets the word out more than they are now, like total saturation-levels. I told one of my sisters about that bundle, and she's seriously considering getting it.
sweet but what about the amiibo+ game bundle
Looks like we've got a whole lotta nothin' this holiday season... Yeah. I don't know why, but I'm slightly bummed Ultra Smash doesn't have a US release date yet. I might pick up Star Fox Zero, but I'm not much pf a Star Fox guy. I've only played 64 3D, and I couldn't really get into it.
Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's wolly world, star fox zero and fatal frame are the ones that I am interested. I still need to get Splatoon.
Sucks to be poor T_T
@rjejr: Glad to see they finally got around to a price cut of a whopping .03 cents to $299.96.
@HyrulianOfHyrule
Because Wal-Mart stores are hard to locate?
@Ryno
Wal-Mart is a .96 cent store - this has nothing to do with Nintendo.
@Minotaurgamer
I hear that sir. It also sucks that Nintendo games never go on solid sales. You may find one for $15 off once in a while, but nothing like a PS4 or X1 game. Heck, how long has Super Mario 3D World been on the shelves and it's still $60?
@miiandmario
Trust me, we aren't getting that. They would have announced it by now. The game released in less than 3 weeks.
@Link41x
Who knos why Nintendo pulls the stuff they pull these days. It's baffling. They really need to take a business class, their decisions are very embarrassing.
I am no longer buying it due to this.
#sucks
@Kirk
You're reading Nintendo Life and you don't have a Nintendo home console?
WUT?
@Ryu_Niiyama
Same here. Took the entire week off and won't be in the office. TO THE WASTELAND!
@Danrenfroe2016
Kind of funny how Nintendo of NA/USA plays the catch 22 game with all of us.
FU NINTENDO. IDIOTS.
@Megumi
You must be a new Nintendo of America fan. Yes, we always get f******.
Yes, we will get it, but at a later date. Like the New 3DS that someday we will get...or a Nintendo Club like EU. Just kidding, those will never happen.
@NintendoFan64
SD card or HD? I don't think the former will hold downloaded games?
@FreakFerrett
I get what you're saying- believe me I do- but I look and I see countless story based games with 6-10 hour campaigns and no online, and nobody blinks.
I'm not saying they shouldn't have put online, or that it wouldn't have been a great addition, but games with one-time campaigns and no online are a dime a dozen nowadays, and almost all of them cost $60 all the same.
So games raise the bar, most certainly, but I don't believe that negates the value in a great game without online for replay ability, or story based games that aren't worth the case they're stored in after completion.
For years we played games without online, before there even was online, and many had little to no replayability. I believe they were worth it then, and they're still worth it now. Just because some games are MORE worth it, doesn't mean these other games aren't still worth buying.
@SomeoneDifferent Are you sure?
That's a pretty stacked release schedule. I actually saw this on FB before I saw it here. I'd buy all of these games if I could afford it right now!
@OlicityBlows I agree mate. They've shown the bones but not the meat!
@JaxonH Its only a great lineup if you want to play them all....
@Killabyte28
Well that kind of goes without saying doesn't it?
You can look at any line up on any system and say that same exact thing
Fatal Frame and, hopefully, Zero Mission are all I care about.
@OlicityBlows It was rumored to have project Guard as an extra mode within it. Plus you dont know how long it is. It might be a 100+ hour game with each mission filled with Dialogue. Or not. But its more than an arcade shooter.
@vanillalake dont forget you also get the physical book with your digital purchase
I'm really looking forward to hear more about the Tennis game. I"m not sold on it yet because I don't know anything about it but I have high hopes
@NintendoFan64
Am I sure? As in, the absence of any doubt? No. But it would be such a bad marketing decision for Nintendo. Why release a SE of this game a week before releasing? Think about all the other canceled pre-orders (mine included) they would encounter for the only version available now. Also, why would they do that? I mean, 2 months ago regarding such an announcement would have brought in a lot more sales.
It is Nintendo though, and their NA division are full of really stupid and pathetic decisions. Just look at their excuse a reasoning to not bring the New 3DS model to the NA. GOD.
@SomeoneDifferent
Lol! Absurdly, absolutely the truth!
They are so frustrating...
@Toadsfriend There didn't seem to be much to it, just hit the ball back and forward. How fun could that be? I really want to like this game but they haven't showed much about it
@SomeoneDifferent There are times where I just can't help but question what's going on at NoA...
@Ryu_Niiyama I didn't notice the release date until I saw it on another site as it wasn't listed on the original article here. It has been a little while since I have heard much of anything about Xenoblade Chronicles X. I probably remember hearing the date but forgot. As a note if Fallout 4 comes to the NX I will more than gladly triple dip into Fallout 4.
@rjejr
Since you missed it the first time>>> http://www.gamestop.com/accessories/amiibo-retro-3-pack-exclusive/123757?cid=fds_10000777&CAWELAID=120192760000015640&CAGPSPN=pla&catargetid=120192760000015643&cadevice=t&gclid=CPLh9vTawscCFQ-IaQodYPMJ1w
The Retro 3-pack is BACK IN STOCK FOR PRE ORDER online at GameStop.com right now. If you want it, here's your one chance.
Dang it, now I'm not getting Fatal Frame V.
@JaxonH I have to commend your ability to talk absolute rational sense on gaming throughout comment feeds on NL and PS. It's incredibly refreshing. Pricing and the value of gaming is an issue I have and it seems crazy to me to devalue one product by the increased value of another. If we want gaming to maintain a freshness that isn't rehash after rehash we have to pay for our niche, in the right way. Logically gaming should cost more now, but it doesn't. I remember paying £60 for N64 games, probably the equivalent of £90 now. There also so many other issues involved in the matter. Anyway, I appreciate your staunch non-partisan approach to all aspects of gaming conversation.
@JLPick
After all the chapters are added? Fatal Frame isn't an episodic adventure, the levels of the story just play out in chapters. The game that is coming out is 100% done with nothing to add. This is just a case of NOA being cheap fools that love to piss on their fanbase. All this decision does is reduce their sales even more and make their retail lineup even more devoid of life.
@amiiboacid not a chance...
@Danrenfroe2016 A chance of what?
@Ryno Nobody gets us.
I would have been OK w/ even a $30 price cut at E3 to $269 just to carry the summer of Splatoon, and then another $40 for Star Fox and BFF $229, but w/ all the NX talk and Zelda silence I'm thinking $199 is now the only price that moves the needle, if that's even possible anymore. I do like the amiibo bundle. I'm sure Nintendo thinks that $13 savings makes up for no price cut, but I just can't imagine their are that many 2D Mario fans who have been waiting 3 years for a level editor. $300 is kind of madness at this point.
@BrizzoUK
Thank you, it's nice knowing I'm not alone in seeing things the way I do. Many games in my life have I purchased and considered them not worth the price- but for every single one of them, that conclusion was based upon how fun the game was (or wasn't, rather), not how many hours it took completing it or whether or not it had online, or multiplayer, or replayability (although I would argue Starfox is meant to be played multiple times to take multiple paths anyways).
The only time I have ever felt a game was not worth the price was when the game flat out sucked. As long as the game is really good, I have never regretted buying it nor deemed it unworthy of the standard MSRP.
Sin & Punishment 2: Star Successor took me 6 or 7 hours to complete and I never touched it again. It had no online and only harder difficulty for replayability. It was worth the price.
Star Fox 64 took me 4 or 5 hours to complete and I never touched it again until the 3D remake, which only took me 3 1/2 hours to complete. It had no online. It had the exact same replayability as Star Fox Zero will have. It was worth the asking price.
Mario 64 (and DS remake) Took me less than a dozen hours to complete and I never touched it again. It had zero replayability save for getting extra stars which did not interest me. Neither did it have online. It was worth the asking price.
The Order 1886, DMC, Bayonetta... etc all had no online. And little replayability, yet all cost $60. MGS Ground Zero is another example of a game without online and wasn't exactly bursting at the seams with content either. Yet people wolfed down that $40 MSRP. Why? Because it was a good game.
@amiiboacid If project guard was in the game we would have seen it at E3 and if you think StarFox Zero will be anything more than a large reskin of the N64 game you are being irrationally optimistic.
They already made a Star Fox 64 reskin for the 3DS, which I doubt they'll do it for the Wii U to. They said it was a reimagining of Star Fox. Plus Star Fox 64 dosent have Arwing transformations, or two screen gameplay.
@bluedogrulez
Nope those are sequels. It just packages together the games on a single disc which was initially available in the New Mario U system bundle. The original individual games are now out of production.
@SomeoneDifferent Sadly, I have no money at all, so I can't afford ANY systems this generation. I'm fortunate that my brother has a Wii U as well access to most of the other consoles via friends, so I get to play them every now and then, and I'll probably be playing Wii U a lot more in the near future as we're doing some game videos and stuff.
@JaxonH I game because it's fun (or tense/challenge if it's a survival horror etc) and therefore as I choose to as an optional hobby I feel no need to moan.
I actually now look for some shorter games to play and will pay full price (just ordered Until Dawn) as there are just too many to play that I want to! I've only racked up 30 hours in MH4U, I don't feel like I haven't got money's worth as I haven't invested the 300 plus recommended time to get its 'true' value I may get from delving into the multiplayer. Yet I've racked up 100 hours in Splatoon. What my rambling is trying to say is, you get the value you want out of it, that is surely why we game, we may want things to be cheaper (who doesn't), but this race to the bottom will only ruin our future experiences (look at all the previous great devs leaving console gaming).
@amiiboacid
It'll be no more like Star Fox 64 then Link Between Worlds was to Link to the Past. And I think we can all agree that while Link Between Worlds was grounded in the same original world, it was in fact a completely new game.
@rjejr
I totally agree on the price cuts. I thought Nintendo was foolish to not do one for last year's holiday season when they still had a chance to breathe life into the system. They failed to do so and saw every other console continue to outsell the U. Now here we are a year with the U on its death bed and still no price cuts at all. They come out with system bundles that are exclusive to one store only which is all kinds of stupid. They are a year away from officially killing the U so if they want to carry any hype into the NX phase they need a drastic cut to the console price. Nobody is going to care if they do a $20-$40 off the retail price especially with the PS4/One will have discounts as they did last year. $199-$229 should be the target at the very least.
So $180 in game purchases right before Christmas!? No good.
@Peek-a-boo I am so disappointed at Nintendo for not giving us a physical release of Fatal Frame. Even if I wanted to download it, I have the 8 GB console and the console doesn't have enough space. Wish the Wii U was not region locked, very jealous of that European collector's edition that they got for Fatal Frame.
@rjejr They already lowered the price of the Wii U by 50 dollars changing it from $350 to $300. The Wii U bundle without a game was $250 untill it was discontinued.
Already own a Wii U? Just wanted the amiibo alone? Lol too bad.
Now all I need is xenoblade for NA VC and I'm set.
Shovel Knight is coming out October 13th for $19.99 on all consoles.
$60 bucks for Star Fox is pretty bad. I hope it has DLC or something, especially since it doesn't have online. I'm still deciding if I want Yarn Yoshi, and I still don't buy Amiibos. There still isn't a good enough reason to.
This makes me exceedingly happy
@Toad Shovel Knight has been out for a long time, least as a download...
That said, I may buy a copy to keep sealed like I did with Luigi-U.
@StarDust4Ever
I know. I have the digital version on Wii U. The physical version is coming out October 13th for Wii U, 3DS, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. I'm definitely going to get the 3DS version because I think it would play nicely on a handheld device.
@rjejr Dropping the Wii U price would be a bad business decision. The goal of a business is to make profit. If they had dropped the price of the Wii U, they may have sold more units, but they would have made less profit. Better to sell less units at a higher price and make more profit than to sell more units at a lower price and make less profit.
@IceClimbers Consoles are a bit more complicated than that. Traditionally, consoles are loss leaders, especially at launch. Sell more consoles at a lower price; get more revenue from increased game sales. Also advertise the crap out of it, something Nintendo failed to do with Wii-U during it's year-long head start.
@SomeoneDifferent I'm pretty sure you're the new NoA fan because, as far as I can recall, it was Europe who got royally screwed by Nintendo for a good two decades
America has had it pretty good for a while. Only recently have they made frustrating decisions.
What about the Limited Edition Mario Maker?? The one that doesn't have a Wii u with it?? NOA, please don't leave us in the dust on that one...
I am sooooooooo friggin' tired of getting games later than the UK, while people just blindly accept it. I am the only one on this entire article to even notice that a November 20 release date for both America and the UK means that we actually have to wait several hours longer than them. For me it's six...SIX! Are you friggin' kiddin' me? This is the same crap they pulled with X and Y. I bet I had to wait twelve hours longer than Japan, then I wasn't willing to go to a midnight launch so I didn't get it until almost twelve P:M. That's nearly 24 hours! A whole day later than Japan! What is wrong with Nintendo's release schedules like seriously!? Shouldn't we get it November 19th to make it more even? See how the Europeans like waiting hours when you just want to play the game the same time as everyone else.
Pfft. I bet some of you thought I was serious. I bet some of you still do. I can never tell myself.
But myself tells me. 0_o
P.S. Zimbabwe always never gets games at the same time or as easily so your complaints are funny to me.
@JaxonH A bit pedantic, but Bayonetta had a small online component.
@IceClimbers Um... the Wii U costs them just over $200 to make, they can profit with a price drop. In Fact, it may be less than that for them to manufacture it now.
Also, the frustrating decisions have been happening for well over 2 years now and besides, just because one region had it rough for two decades, it does not mean you should treat the other like crap now. What should have happened is to equal them out, preferably bringing the one getting the shaft to the better standard. Two wrongs do not make a right.
@JaxonH Thanks. What do you think I could get for Mr. Game and Watch on eBay, I have zero interest in him.
What's the story w/ those Medicom figures? Are they the blatant amiibo ripoffs that they look like? I do like Luigi's face though.
@amiiboacid - "The Wii U bundle without a game was $250 untill it was discontinued."
I think the Basic was discontinued in the US long before there was ever a price cut. Not officially, but it wasn't on store shelves for months before the announcement, there was no $250 Wii U in the US w/ the possible exceptions of some Skylanders or other limited edition bundles. So yes, they announced a price cut, but the lower price point of $299 at launch has not been breached in the US. And unlike the EU the US lives and dies by MSRP.
@Vineleaf
Well I'll be darn- I know Bayo2 did but I played the first from start to finish and never noticed anything to do with online. Guess you learn something new every day.
@IceClimbers - "Dropping the Wii U price would be a bad business decision."
Why does Ntinedo make it's own console rather than go 3rd party? B/c they keep more of the money from their games when they sell them on their own console. Nintnedo is a game making company, they make their money selling games. Mario Kart 8, SSBU, Spaltoon. But they can only sell as many copies of a game as they sell consoles. Do you know how many copies Mario Kart Wii sold - 35 million. That's 7x as many as MK8's 5m. How much money do you think they make off of every copy of the game? Every copy of all their games? And how much money do they get from 3rd party games? Contrary to popular belief Wii U does get a bunch of 3rd party games - mostly Lego and toys-to-life but they still must make money off of every copy sold. And Just Dance.
The more consoles sold, the more money they make, that is how the videogame business works.
@rjejr
Medicoms are just another line of figures- there's a lot, but that's been going on since before the rise of amiibo.
They also make 3 Links- one old school NES Link, a Windwaker Link and a Skyward Sword Link. Those a lot of people buy. I just ordered a set for my friend since I was ordering from Amiami anyways (always cheaper to compile orders into one shipment when paying for shipping from Japan, then split the cost). I was tempted to get that very same Luigi and the Classic Mario but decided against it in favor of waiting for a more expensive, display-friendly Mario. Link I have up the yin-yang what with Figma, Windwaker Nendoroid and soon to be released Majoras Mask Nendoroid.
As for eBay- you'll at least be able to get what you paid- no problem, and probably sell within a few hours of listing. If you want to actually PROFIT, well, then it depends how greedy you are with your price. I can tell you what the full sealed 3 pack is going for but not loose individual figures, at least, not of that particular one since it's not really out yet and most listings are for full 3 pack.
I would advise selling for $19.99 shipped. It's a fair price to the one buying, and after eBay fees/shipping/PayPal fees you'll still make what you paid after tax (divided by 3 of course).
You figure $20 - 10% eBay fees = $18. Then $18 - (.30 + 2.9%) PayPal fees = $17.12. Then $17.12 - $3.12 shipping = $14 net profit.
If you print your own shipping label from PayPal.com/shipnow you will save a ton on your shipping fees, like 10%. But if you print directly from eBay you'll save 20%. After you make a sale, you'll get a notification in your notification tab on top right that says "Ship now". Just select it and it takes you to the page to purchase shipping label. It auto-imports their address and yours. All you have to do is weigh the package and round up to the nearest ounce. Keep it under 13oz and you can ship First Class for MUCH less than Priority. My número uno rule- ALWAYS ship under 13oz to go First Class. ALWAYS.
Reality is if you have a small box fitting an open amiibo, you'll be more or less around 6oz, and that's including packaging like bubble wrap and air packets. And shipping will be more along the lines of $2.50 if you ship through eBay. Just be sure to PACKAGE WELL. Nobody wants to get an amiibo that was poorly protected during shipment. Always expect the worst- like your package being stampeded by a 2 ton elephant and used as a picnic stool afterwards. So package and protect well- lots and lots of bubble wrap and air packets- just don't cram TOO many air packets in or it works against you- pack them too tightly and those air packets become as hard as bricks. If you don't have proper packaging materials I suggests using newspaper and recycling some bubble wrap from something you purchased.
I'll choose Star Wars:Battlefront over Star Fox Zero
Man, I'm bummed about Fatal Frame not getting a physical release (at least, not yet). I hope that they do a disc copy down the line, because it just doesn't seem right to restrict such a big title to being download-only.
I'm glad that Star Fox is coming before December, at least.
seriously.. what a dumb title. now the situations even worse with this one. mario level editors have existed for so long now that its ridiculous they are milking this still... and making such a big deal out of it.
@Danrenfroe2016
Of the game being 100+ hours long or all sorts of extra modes and such... Its not going to happen, they are rushing to get it done to limit their financial exposure.
@Justaguest
What???? This is a great idea... This is so much better than ROM hacks...
@JaxonH I had a question for you, but after that long thought out answer to what was primarily a rhetorical question, I'm kind of afraid to ask.
Ok, here goes. You think the US will be getting the SMM amiibo bundle? Not the Walmart exclusive Wii U bundle, just the game. It looks like this.
Q) What are you looking forward to the most?
A) In terms of releases for this year, I'm still looking forward to Rodea the Sky Soldier most of all.
The European announcements for release dates is a bit light here, which is a shame. I'm unsure when Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash will release for Europe, and given Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon's delay to 2016 for the EU (a game I was planning on getting my brother for Christmas), I do worry. Speaking of games I was going to get my brother for Christmas, one of the options I've considered is the physical copy of Shovel Knight, though I see that hasn't got a confirmed release date for EU either.
Still, I'm happy to hear of the release dates for both Star Fox Zero and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, both being games I'm looking forward to. It's odd that their both releasing on the same day, but oh well, I can buy both at once easily enough. I'm also relieved that I'll be able to get a physical copy of Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water; it's a shame about those wanting a physical copy in the US.
@rjejr
No, I don't. It's messed up but, well, NoA strikes again what can I say
@JaxonH - Thanks. Judging by the Japanese commercials Japan isn't getting it either. I'm not a big fan of amibo or LE bundles but I sometimes go the extra mile for my kids. Only LE I've ever purchased is LBP2 w/ the stuffed toy and bookends for my sons birthday. We use the bookends to hold up our Wii U games, we surprisingly have 10, which I would never guess we own that many as negative as I am, but we do. We may actually own more 3rd party than 1st - mostly Lego and toys to life. I actually don't know what "party' Hyrule Warriors is, the mystical 2nd? W101 was a rental, still need Bayonetta 2. XCX will be the "oddest" 1st party title we own. Splatoon may be odd, but it feels "Nintnedo' - cartoon colors and no real spoken language. My brain still doesn't want to equate Monolith w/ Mario.
@Squid_Gangster @Peek-a-boo Why areLugi is green not mario
