Hyrule Warriors Legends for the 3DS was leaked before E3, providing some pre-LA buzz but also blowing one of Nintendo's reveals. Confirmed to feature all Hyrule Warriors DLC and new content such as Tetra and the King of Hyrule, which will also be transferrable to the Wii U version, this seems like a clever way to expand the life of the game to the larger 3DS fanbase.
With the Tokyo Game Show set to feature the game next week, Famitsu magazine will be sharing details. Some information has been leaked from the magazine but, as it's a leak from a familiar source, we should treat it as likely true but not 100% certain.
The details will apparently confirm the unsurprising news that Toon Link will be playable, and that he'll be a fast and agile character. Story Content around The Wind Waker is also on the way in the Legend Mode though, weirdly, Toon Link won't be playable in this particular area; Tetra and the King of Hyrule likely will be. Helmaroc King is also to be involved, which is rightly being anticipated as a boss encounter in the story mode.
Of course, running around as Toon Link in challenges etc will be fun, and extra content from the 3DS version - hopefully all of it - will be transferrable to the Wii U title.
We expect the release of Famitsu magazine this week to confirm this fully, and the game will no doubt have a new trailer or two once Tokyo Game Show is underway. Based on comments from earlier in the year there will likely be more characters revealed ahead of the game's release next year.
Are you excited about Toon Link and Wind Waker content in Hyrule Warriors Legends?

Now how about Young Link in Smash!
I am holding on to the flimsy hope that it will not require an N3DS (and won't take a year to be released in Yurop, either). I don"t own a WiiU, but this is the first Zelda game in decades that I want to get.
Why so much noise about this character? It's basically Young Link with a cartoonish skin applied. It's the same deal as people asking for Young Link in SSB when we already have Toon Link. The point?
I wonder if we will ever get Yarn Kirby, Yarn Yoshi, Clay Kirby, Paper Mario, Mario from Mario & Luigi series, Luigi from Luigi's Mansion, Luigi from Mario is Missing among other unique, super useful, never-seen-before characters.
It would be odd to not feature him at this point.
Also remember that there is a Toon Link amiibo, which should bear new worth for Hyrule Warriors other than being a Link substitute.
I hope a Wind Waker dlc pack becomes available for the Wii U version.
I just keep idly hoping I can get these characters in Hyrule Warriors without having to buy a $40 game I don't want.
That's a character that I honestly didn't consider, but it's such an obvious choice.
Now can we get Groose?
@Noelemahc What do you mean flimsy hope? We already know this is for the OG 3DS family.
Kind of glad I held off getting WiiU version, will just get the complete version on 3DS instead.
@Grumblevolcano 100% agree. Majora's Mask moveset!
Still not enough for me to double dip, I want the creator of the Groosenator we get to use on HW.
A third Link?
WHERE IS GROOSE?!
@Grumblevolcano
Smash is a Nintendo crossover. Hyrule Warriors is a Zelda game.
There are so many better choices than a forgettable Link clone.
Have they said what the gold Ocarina is for?
Toon link wasnt playable in hyrule warriors yet?
I really hope they offer the 3DS stuff on the Wii U for free...If they don't... I'll be kind of annoyed that the definitive version is on the 3DS at a much, much cheaper cost than the Wii U.
I haven't bought the Wii U version yet, but I'll likely only buy the 3DS one due to all the extras that's being announced for it. I love Wind Waker, so Toon Link is a great addition for me.
I thought the fact that Zelda had the Wind Waker meant that Toon Link wouldn't be in the game... so are they just not going to give him it? That doesn't seem right...
Toon Link is Best Link IMO
That said, no way am I buying the 3DS game just to play him on the Wii U. Even with the rumours about Female Link, I don't like the idea of double dipping just to get the full content.
Still no Groose.
I'm still kind of annoyed that Nintendo's basically making a GOTY edition of Hyrule Warriors (as in a complete-with-all-DLC+more package) but only releasing it on the 3DS. I want all of that content, but I want it on the Wii U, and I don't want to pay $100+ for it. Unless I see a particularly good opportunity to buy the Wii U game, or they make the DLC free, I'm probably going to hold off in the hopes of either a Wii U Legend Edition, or an NX Legend Edition.
@ikki5 have you played a warriors game on the 3ds yet? Trust me it won't be the best version
I really would like this game on the go, but its painful to think about having to grind every characters levels again just to beat alot of the Adventure maps missions. That is my biggest complaint about the game. I do not wwnt to feel forced to grind each individual character on the same level 57 times a piece. Starting over again kind of turns me away from this.
I'm planning on double dipping but I do hope they at least make the new characters part of the season pass (best 20 bucks spent ever).
But Medli?
Please give me Medli.
@Sakuraichu Young Link is a Melee veteran so it should be in Smash 4, same with the other Melee and Brawl veterans. I know Snake would be difficult because of the Kojima/Konami situation and Ice Climbers was cut because the 3DS is a weak console in terms of power but there's no excuses regarding the others.
Wouldn't be surprised, really.
I hope they add the 3ds content to the Wii U version with a paid dlc option as well. I don't play the 3DS.
How many Links are they going to put in this game?
@Mega719 Still missing American Cartoon Link and CD-I Link. You can't quite call the roster complete until that's done.
Definitely looking forward to this if true.
@Noelemahc actually its not even considered a zelda game nowhere close but its just a dynasty warriors game but with zelda series skin (but more fun and added stuff to make it have a more zelda game series feel) and zelda isn't even in the name.
Q1 2016, here we come...
@faint No, but I have seen them announce that everything the Wii U had will be on the 3DS.
This is great news, 'cause Toon Link is my favorite Link.
@Whopper744 I agree with that. No way I want to sit through another 100+ hours of grinding to get all my characters up to a certain level (let alone maxing them out). It'd be cool if you could transfer your progress over from the Wii U version to the 3DS game...
Then again, I suppose the 3DS version is mainly targeted at people who haven't played the original yet, so as to profit off the much bigger 3DS userbase.
Why is it called Legends? It should be called Hyrule Warriors: Wind Waker Edition instead, unless they actually do plan to put MC, ALTTP, SS, PH and ST content in.
Next up, 8-bit Link!
@Zombo Well, it could've been a system-seller. It will probably get an N3DS bundle, just you wait. In any case, I'm glad I'll get to get more mileage out of my CPP.
@edgedino And THAT's why it's a rarity as a Zelda game I'm inclined to buy. I don't understand the hype for the series in general, and have never shared it. The only Zelda games I've enjoyed were the Oracle ones.
He needs a wind waker moveset, unlike in smash. The big hammer, grappling hook, and deku leaf should be special moves.
I want all the WindWaker characters but I don't want to buy the 3DS version. Make it DLC for WiiU and I'm in, otherwise I'll go without and play something else.
@Grumblevolcano If he came back, there would be anger probably, however I would play with him so much, one of my favs in melee....unless he had the great fairy sword I guess.
I'm still waiting for news on Hyrule Warriors Amiibo. I'd love to have little Princess Ruto, Volga, Cia, Samurai Ganondorf, and Tetra figurines on my desk.
@MasterGraveheart
NO.... just no.... that would kill my wallet because the Zelda Amiibo are the only ones I am truly collecting.... lol
It would also frustrate me to no end because Amiibo in NA are a complain pain in the butt to get them.
@Undead_terror There was anger when King K Rool was a Mii costume despite a few playable characters also having Mii costumes so nothing new there!
Yes! I've been really hoping for this! It has me excited that we could be getting new Wind Waker themed content for Legends Mode. A new stage, perhaps? I think Forbidden Fortress would make a perfect fit, with the high-up areas with spotlights acting as your keeps.
@Noelemahc I have never played a Zelda game in my life so this is the closest to one I have ever played though I do plan to buy the upcoming one for Wii u.
@Peace-Boy It's one of the extensions they've been putting on the other Warriors games is all.
I've just gotten back to tackling this again on the Wii U and it'll be nice to be able to play it on the go. It won't shine as much as the Wii U version on the 3DS, but it'll still be fun. Samurai Chronicles on the 3DS was alright.
@MasterGraveheart Much money. I would spend much money.
@rushiosan this isn't Smash Bros. In Hyrule Warriors, Young Link and Link play completely differently. It's assumed that Toon Link will also play completely different and utilize his arsenal from The Wind Waker, similar to how Young Link uses the Ocarina of Time and Fierce Deity Mask. The appeal comes from people's love of Wind Waker; some people consider it their favorite Zelda game.
jolly, now we can play as 3 link's isntead of 1 link, 1 skullkid with majora's mask and 1 lineback.
I know all 3 link's play completely different, I have a lot of experience with musuo games since I own 4 on my ps4 and 2 on my psvita and 1 on my wiiU and played them for more than 300 hours combined (mostly pirate warriors 3 (ps4), dynasty warriors 8 (ps4 and vita) and orochi 3 (ps4) )
but still, these 2 extra link's could have been 2 extra characters from the large number of possible characters within the majora's mask and toon link universe besides link.
@bro2dragons same here. there's like a 10% chance i will get this. Honestly i can't see tecmo not eventually adding the content to wii-u, its their best selling warriors game, and the dlc has made them a good chunk of money.
@ikki5 the 3ds can't handle nearly as many enemies so it will have a awful lot of pop in and will chug really bad during big fights. It's not always about rosters you know.
I'd like there to be more characters from portable Zelda games than just Wind Waker. And also more Majora's Mask characters like Happy Mask Salesman.
@Noelemahc Me and you both.
@Grumblevolcano You really think Smash needs three Links?
@Grumblevolcano What would he do? Sakurai did away with transformations, so he'd just be another Link
I really, REALLY hope that they transfer save data across both versions. You know, like how MH3U can do?
@faint Samurai Warriors seemed to do ok on the handheld, I am pretty sure they will make it fine for this one too. Sure it won't be able to handle as many enemies but they can still easily make it work. It's not always about number of enemies either.
@ikki5 also the particle effects will have to be way dumbed down and fury of Gannon will be totally unplayable. I will but it anyways because I buy every warriors game I can get my hands on but I don't see this as definitive
My favorite Link would really help the play-ability of my not so favorite Zelda game. oHh yeaUh
What's next? CDi Link?
Can't justify double dipping on this grind fest. Enjoyed the original, but like many of its ilk, once I'm made to rinse and repeat constantly I get bored. Also, was great fun on 2 player, so I'll stick to Wii U.
