The Japanese chart results are out, and overall they're relatively low key - one new release has taken number one spot but hardware sales are down.
Starting with software, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has made its debut at number one, though Kirby: Planet Robobot is hanging on to second place with lifetimes sales just shy of a quarter of a million. In general a number of other ever-present titles are in the top 20, but most striking are the low sales - outside of the top three all sales numbers are in four figures. Results are below with lifetime sales in brackets.
- [PS4] Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (SIE, 05/10/16) – 128,725 (New)
- [3DS] Kirby: Planet Robobot (Nintendo, 04/29/16) – 24,298 (248,951)
- [3DS] Yo-kai Sangokushi (Level-5, 04/02/16) – 10,696 (509,579)
- [PSV] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2016 (Konami, 04/29/16) – 9,510 (119,310)
- [PS4] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2016 (Konami, 04/29/16) – 8,473 (134,391)
- [PS3] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2016 (Konami, 04/29/16) – 5,928 (76,440)
- [3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 (Square Enix, 03/24/16) – 5,767 (592,321)
- [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition (SIE, 03/19/15) – 5,693 (768,532)
- [Wii U] Splatoon (Nintendo, 05/28/15) – 5,237 (1,362,230)

- [PS4] Dying Light: The Following (Warner Bros., 04/21/16) – 2,759 (13,218)
- [PS4] Dark Souls III (Bandai Namco, 03/24/16) – 2,642 (289,586)
- [PS3] Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness (Square Enix, 04/29/16) – 2,574 (27,875)
- [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf Happy Price Selection (Nintendo, 03/17/16) – 2,498 (45,601)
- [PSV] One Piece: Burning Blood (Bandai Namco, 04/21/16) – 2,471 (51,528)
- [3DS] Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (Nintendo, 02/18/16) – 2,417 (158,729)
- [PS4] One Piece: Burning Blood (Bandai Namco, 04/21/16) – 2,301 (52,592)
- [Wii U] Star Fox Zero / Star Fox Guard Double Pack (Nintendo, 04/21/16) – 2,214 (32,442)
- [PS4] Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition (SIE, 12/03/15) – 2,196 (92,165)
- [PS4] Grand Theft Auto V Low Price Version (Take-Two Interactive, 10/08/15) – 2,194 (108,023)
Moving on to hardware, all systems apart from the Xbox One (which is still in last place) saw sales drop. PS4's drop was relatively minimal thanks to Uncharted 4, and the New 3DS LL (XL) hangs on to second place ahead of the Vita. The Wii U lost a little under half its sales in falling below 4000 units; the results are below with last week's sales in brackets.
- PlayStation 4 – 23,239 (24,880)
- New 3DS LL – 13,623 (19,675)
- PlayStation Vita – 12,299 (18,090)
- Wii U – 3,896 (7,224)
- New 3DS – 3,021 (5,187)
- PlayStation 3 – 997 (1,340)
- 3DS – 823 (1,209)
- 3DS LL – 128 (171)
- Xbox One – 115 (60)
That's it for last week's sales, which were rather uneventful in the Japanese market.

Japan seems to be done as a traditional gaming market. Nothing has been doing well there since 2013, and even then it was only the 3DS. I keep seeing people say the Vita is popular in Japan, but just being near the top of the chart does not make something popular. Nothing selling under 25k is popular, and most weeks everything is under that number. Japan only cares about mobile now.
Yes, yes. YES. Come to papa, precious game. This little gem wasn't that much interesting when it was first announced, but by now has become one of my day-one games on my wishlist. And I still haven't bought Hyrule Warriors Legends, Paper Jam Bros and Triforce Heroes.
@BensonUii
Che ci vuoi fare. The little wonders software discounts, full game ownership and the posssibility to share an account can do. Who knew?
@BensonUii That would make a pretty clickbait title. ''Xbox One makes a return, sales double!!!''.
Wii U back to its normal level I see. Star Fox Zero will be gone next week. It's bombed hard, 32,000 is a failure in any language. 3DS isn't doing too well either. Only PS4 seems to have matched last weeks sales. lol at XB1. Wii U has what exactly releasing in the next 6 months to help increase sales? Tokyo Mirage Sessions has come and bombed over there.
So are we going to blame Wii U sales on stock shortages every week? Is TMS#FE going to help at all? Mario and Sonic at the Olympics can't be a huge boom in any language. And then we wait to see if Paper Mario gets a 2016 date, and then Zelda - maybe - in March 2017.
800k is starting to look a tad too optimistic, unless they drop it to $199, the back catalog is still selling.
$299 for a console w/ no new games, yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Xbox sales
@Thegentleman Japanese have never cared about Xbox.
About the chart, Vita is not that far from New 3DS/XL and the difference between PS4 and Wii U is huge, even though PS4Neo has been leaked.
@rjejr TMS#FE came out in December 2015 for Japan. Mario & Sonic and Color Splash are the only 2016 games. 3DS isn't healthy either in Japan as a lot of the western lineup is Japan localizations.
DQ Monsters Joker 3 to NA please?
Wow at the numbers for Star Fox... It is a huge failure in JP
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I blame Nintendo and Miyamoto's obsession with gimmicks for screwing up something so easy. What should happen is they give Star Fox Zero the remastered treatment for NX (which will no doubt be a very popular item for at least a few months, longer if Nintendo plays its cards right) with re-worked, 'traditional' controls. Add in a strong marketing push and it'll sell much better.
@Gamer83 i fear that after this debacle we won t see any Starfox for a long while....
It s a pity cos with standard controls and online battles (i can imagine big arenas with spacecrafts, chickens and tanks, maybe coupling it with tower defense using Guard) would be excellent...
@Gamer83 I am so done with Miyamoto, he keeps f*****g up projects like Star Fox and Paper Mario.
@Gamer83 No. Starfox tanked because it's a rail shooter released in retail in 2016. Not because of gimmicks. We are living in an era of gimmicks. Most people these days play on their smartphones through a touchscreen or play on their PS4 with a touchpad and a big colored LED in the middle of the controller.
Starfox Zero was a commercial suicide since the begining because of its genre. They should have turned it into a TPS.
@VanillaLake yeah......
I don't get it. Where's Zelda?
129K for PS4's main generation game seems low. I know.....it's a western style game blah blah blah. Still I would have expected more.
Wii U and 3DS are struggling right now
Star Fox Zero is a huge mess not because of its genre but because of its controls and lack of polishing. I knew it was going to crash.
@VanillaLake Nah, Star Fox Zero was a mess because of NX rumours. In fact every Wii U game released after E3 2015 could be considered having the same issue.
@Grumblevolcano I wonder what will happen to Colour Splash, recent Paper Mario games have not been very good.
@Gamer83 Star Fox Zero could definitely do better with a rerelease on NX. This time they should finish it. I don't think it was ready but they couldn't delay it any further. Remember, there were those rumours a month to 6 weeks before release that it could have been delayed again due to its controls, it wasn't and we all know how that turned out. And this time add online multiplayer. Do this, sort the controls and I could see it being an 8.5 /10 game if not higher.
@Daemonite not in the US, it's on 10th place
@Daemonite I believe that without the Star Fox name the sales would be much lower.
Star Fox has definitely tanked at retail which is unfortunate
Terrible hardware sales across the board, which is typical of the weeks following Golden Week, but this year appears to be a new low. New major releases are needed ASAP.
@Grumblevolcano So TMS#FE didn't save Wii U in Japan then huh? Doesn't bode well for the western release. Not that I expected it to.
3DS at least has Pokemon Sun & Moon, I'm sure they will sell. Well reasonably sure anyway. Better than the Olympic game and Paper Mario combined I'd wager. Might be a new MH spinoff this holiday as well. I do know the others have already shipped in Japan.

As usual, thanks for saving me from myself.
@xPH03N1Xx86 Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 for Europe as well please
Good to see Kirby hanging in there.
Ouch. It used to be rare to see anything below 5 or 6,000 at the bottom of the software top 20. Now they're barely holding on at 2,000.
While people are lamenting the sales for Star Fox, I'm still floored that Star Ocean has bombed this badly. Another one that will probably be up on the shelf for a bit.
I haven't been keeping up much with Planet Robobot since its reveal, but hopefully it's selling well due to potential uniqueness compared to Triple Deluxe and not just because it's another Kirby game.
