Re: Get A Closer Look At Super Mario 3D All-Stars In This Nintendo Unboxing Video

VR32X

This video had to exist? If anything, it makes me regret my physical preorder. Lol! I expected as much. Tear off plastic... ohh look! No booklet, no stickers, no cloth, no patches or anything! Not even a little commemorative card that thanks you for buying the game! At least it has reverse artwork. Lol. Can’t wait to redeem my chump change amount of gold coins off of the game card.

Now. If you think I’m asking for too much, I’ve bought some killer Switch games that came with all of that. And man, I was impressed.

Gonna be nice to play these on Switch though, and not dig out my Wii U. Well, when I beat Galaxy and wanna play Galaxy 2, guess I’ll dig out my Wii U. Lol. I’m sure they’re saving it for another collection or something... who knows... trying to be positive about that one. Mario games really hold up, even not remastered. Theres a whole lotta gameplay to be had on that $60 cartridge. When you look back at the old All-Stars, even having 4 games instead of these 3, you can breeze through them all in a day or two. No warp zones either. Maybe Galaxy 2 would have been overkill... but I still wouldn’t mind seeing it later on.

Re: Review: Super Mario All-Stars - All That Glitters Isn't Necessarily Gold

So I just ran through SMB1 on All-Stars, and I did notice some weirdness with hitting some of the item boxes. Especially later in the game. Hit boxes were all kinds of betraying me on 8-2. I died from enemies that weren’t even touching me, or that I was technically on top of. And I almost jumped through a box. But I eventually got through the level. Maybe I never noticed when I was younger. It was all very minor though, and overall the game was enjoyable.

I have a lot of happy memories with this cartridge, and I even have the updated All-Stars + World cart tucked away in my closet. I was the one of first kids in my local mall to pick the game up from KB Toys. They gave me Nickelodeon Gak and something else with it... I remember the Gak specifically. My dad and I played All-Stars to death together over the years. Later on, I did find myself preferring the NES version of Mario 3. It has a style about it, and the music is bumping. Some of the music and visuals are too “nice” on All-Stars, and make me feel sleepy or lazy, for some reason. I never noticed the brick feeling, but now I’ll check it out. And it is a huge plus that you don’t have to beat Lost Levels repeatedly for the extra levels. I got tired of trying to achieve that on other VC releases.

Re: Review: King of Fighters R-2 - A Pocket-Sized Fighter That Still Packs A Punch

VR32X

I think a fair argument about the price would be when you compare it to how much Virtual Console games used to cost on 3DS and Wii U. A solid, classic SNES game costs $7.99. If I remember correctly. I could be wrong. While a NES game was $4.99, and a Gameboy game was even less, depending. So should a Neo Geo Pocket Color game be as much as a SNES game? Probably not, but I’m thankful we’re getting them, and I understand its a business.

Re: PlatinumGames Has No Idea If Star Fox Zero Will Be Ported To Switch

VR32X

I loved it, but I couldn’t play it much after my first run. Despite getting relatively use to all of it, some stuff was still just too ridiculous with two screens. Like the force field boss. Ugh. I wouldn’t mind trying it again on Switch. Not sure how it would work though, unless they just rebuild it for single screen.

Re: Review: Paper Mario: The Origami King - A Puzzling Battle System Can't Kill This Funny Adventure

VR32X

So... now about that Metroid easter egg we saw awhile back. Any day now we’ll get some Metroid news... right?
I got Color Splash on sale several years ago, and I tried getting into it. I just wasn’t hooked, and got bored. I didn’t get very far. I tried to beat Sticker Star, actually made it to Bowser, and the game just wasn’t blowing me away. I put it down and never bothered to rematch him. I’m a huge Mario fan, my whole life, and I wonder if it was me, my age, being into different games, or if those games really were weak. I just fear Origami King will collect dust like my other Paper Mario games, that I gave an honest try to. Super Mario RPG is still one of my very favorite games. Maybe theres a bias? Who knows...

Re: Konami's Seminal Shooter Gradius Blasts Off On Switch Today

VR32X

@impurekind It boggles me that neither that or Axelay was put on the SNES Classic. I also love Gradius 3.

@KayFiOS I would also love to see Parodius!

And I’m with many people here, I have the Konami Collection... so I’m curious if it even matters to consider this? I also have the TG-16 Gradius on Wii U. Lol

Re: Feature: The Making Of Streets Of Rage 4, By The People Who Made It Happen

Did not know about using the taser on the arcades. Super glad they let Cherry have her guitar. Thats one thing my buddy and I got a kick out of while playing it. Estel looks like a playable character waiting to happen. Would love the kangaroo. I also love this style of graphics, along with Dragon’s Trap. I’ve always found it brilliant to see good cartooning and animation in a game, and I would love to contribute something like that to a game, myself, someday. While pixel art is valuable and cherished, the 90’s kid in me always said “yeah, when I grow up... video games are gonna look like actual cartoons. You’ll be able to play cartoons.” And it came true! And it makes me happy!

Re: Gorgeous Gothic Metroidvania The Last Faith Is Bound For Switch

VR32X

I know everybody wants Konami to put out a new Castlevania in this style, but the last one they released was Mirror of Fate... and it wasn’t my favorite game. I wasn’t impressed. I had it preordered, I 100% it that weekend... never returned. It was traded for “peanuts” a few weeks later. I usually never trade Castlevania games. So, while theres a lot of “mediocre” Metroidvanias on Switch, I give them a nod if they’re at least better than MoF, and have better than 8-bit graphics.

Re: With Konami Refusing To Do A New Castlevania, Lords Of Exile Might Be The Next Best Thing

VR32X

While I appreciate classic looking games, and share so much love for Castlevania... I think I’m with most people here. This style is getting quite oversaturated. I like to see more developers at least do 16-bit and be innovative. Bring something in that makes the game special. But... if he makes it well enough and I get the opportunity to play it, I’ll give it a shot. Gotta start somewhere, maybe this game serves a purpose in a grand career of making games.

Re: Ubisoft Kicks Off Another Huge Switch Sale, Up To 75% Off Action-Adventure Games (North America)

VR32X

Had Starlink physically and none of the toys... traded it. It was really cool at first, but it wasn’t holding me. Even with Fox. The idea of buying absolutely every ship, character and weapon really turned me off too. I have both AC3 and 4 on Wii U, they were way cheap back then, and I need to play them more. AC4 was $5 at one point. Maybe I’ll start over on Switch someday, my library is already so huge. Rayman Legends, I own on Wii U, Switch, and PS+... and haven’t beaten it on any of them. Lol. I was so excited for the game when it was originally going to be a Wii U exclusive.
