Re: Soapbox: The Modern Games Industry Has A Hype Problem, And It Needs To Stop

VR32X

Just become a Vinnie Vincent fan. People are still hyped and excited for their preordered boxed sets from the mid 90’s, and currently pay $500 to meet him and to see if he can really still shred guitar or not. They pay even more for autographs and photos after admission price. Still waiting on Guitarmageddon. The hype is real.

And. I’ve done it to myself over the years with games. Sword of Mana, Castlevania Mirror of Fate to name a few... was pumped on nostalgia and was left ultimately bored. Other times my excitement was rewarded! Like Monster Hunter World.

Re: Controversial Rising Sun Design Removed From Street Fighter II's Re-Release

VR32X

I always thought E. Honda’s name was offensive. I always imagined people driving him. Seriously though. I had a rising sun bandana years ago I bought from a Japanese shop downtown in Mooresville NC. I walked into a coffee shop for veterans and got the “you got a target on your head, boy.” joke. Hence... WW2 and all that... I bought it because it looked cool and it reminded me of stuff I’d seen in movies, and the Loudness album cover. A few years later I joined the USAF. Not there anymore as that was years ago. However, I wouldn’t wear another flag but an American one now. Still love Japanese stuff, but I can see where people outside of Japan aren’t fond of that flag.

Re: Nintendo Hiring Splatoon 3 Level Designer To Renovate "Existing" Stages

VR32X

I think Splatoon 3 should have as much all new content as possible, so 2 can be relevant. I’m personally not ready for 3, but I won’t rob that excitement from die hard players. I hope its the best in the series gives the squids exactly what they want. I hope its like Mario 3 and Zelda 3, and people remember it for 30 years. Hopefully they’re bringing back more stuff from Splatoon 1 since many people missed that one, and won’t be hooking up a Wii U anytime soon.

Re: Capcom Arcade Stadium Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch

VR32X

@BJQ1972 Thanks. First one I’ve owned since the SNES. Just got it a few days ago and I’m very excited to play everything with it. It was a seamless experience the other night on Garou and Metal Slug X. So I was caught off guard with Capcom. Not used to remapping buttons, but I guess I will be soon. Lol!

Re: Capcom Arcade Stadium Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch

VR32X

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I’ll try that when I’m off work. Just kinda bugs me that I have to remap the controls for a new controller. I mean, it might seem like laziness, but really its a hassle if you think about it. Especially if you have to do it for each game. I guess I’ll drop the rewind button. Rewinding is for wimps and I’m using an arcade stick!!! Lol jk. But yeah... excited for some Cyberbots with this... even if I gotta redundantly buy some games I already have with it. Thats business I guess. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Re: Capcom Arcade Stadium Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch

VR32X

Well guys. I’m a bit disappointed. You can’t use the HORI Fighting Stick with this because they made it where you have to click the R stick on a joy-con or pro controller to load in an imaginary quarter. That is a huge oversight. Theres even Street Fighter themed fight sticks for Switch. Was Capcom even thinking? This is how some people are gonna prefer to play.

@Onion I LOVE Cyberbots!!! I’m in the same boat. Wished I could buy that alone.

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Hits Switch This July Alongside Themed Joy-Con

VR32X

Not complaining... but did anybody else notice that Mario Galaxy was a hit Wii game that was included with two other big Mario games on a $60 collection... and Skyward Sword was a hit Wii game NOT included with other Zelda games for $60? I’m getting it, I loved the Wii one... had the gold nunchuck to match the Wiimote... might get those joy-cons and hope they don’t get all smeary and drift... but I’m watching you, Nintendo. I’m watching you...

Re: Konami Shmup Thunder Cross Joins The Arcade Archives This Week

VR32X

I bought Gradius 3 recently as it wasn’t on the Anniversary Collection. Which... is tougher than I imagined. Tried some other games and I found myself not playing as well as I used to. Turns out I have so many Hamster games on my Switch that it was time to give my 35 year old thumbs a rest and order a HORI fight stick. Maybe I can revisit all my fighting games and shmups in style next week. I’ll give this game a shot too.

Re: Soapbox: Super Mario 3D World Is The Closest To A Super Mario Bros. 2 Sequel We'll Ever Get

VR32X

I’m a big fan of Mario 2 as well, and noticed all of the references the first time around. It kinda bums me out that we don’t see more Mario 2 characters in games like Mario Kart. I have nostalgia for the old Super Show cartoon, and villains like Mouser and Fry Guy. I’m glad we got the game as Mario 2; and not Doki Doki Panic. It has always felt like a Mario game to me, and I prefer it that way.

Re: Resident Evil Returns To The Big Screen On September 3rd

VR32X

I just want it to stay close to the source material I hold dearly, and that goes beyond race. Chris has to be an Air Force reject that punches boulders! Or I’m review bombing!

Really though, I’m wanting more news on Revelations 3 for Switch. I best hush my mouth though. I never got around to buying RE3 on PS4...

Re: Video: 5 Special Wii U Virtual Console Games Not on Switch

VR32X

Theres some 3DS VC console games that should be on Switch as well, like 92 Recca and Murasame Castle. Surprised ya’ll didn’t know about the extra levels on SMA4. There was a whole news article on it and everything back then. It was exciting and why I bought it! Beat them all too!

Re: Nintendo Unveils Monster Hunter Rise Special Edition Switch Console

VR32X

I wonder how Burning Spear survived the 3DS era. Lol.

Speaking of which! Just because they’re releasing Mario and Monster Hunter editions of the Switch, don’t think they’re resting their laurels on a new and improved model. The 3DS came out while the DSi was still kind of fresh. I remember there were several versions of the 3DS, then I foolishly upgraded to the 3DSXL, which had several special editions, and then I foolishly upgraded to the “New” 3DSXL, which also kept coming out in various special editions. Mine was the MH4U one. Then I was torn when the faceplates N3DS came out, and then the Samus N3DSXL. Ultimately I stuck with my MH4U edition. Which. The A button no longer works and the battery doesn’t hold a charge. The silver paint is chipping away too. It was my baby. I kept it armored and cared for... but not enough it seems. They also hammered us with all kinds of 2DS models.

I’d honestly be afraid to get a special Switch. Knowing my luck, I’ll get a nifty newer Switch model, like this MH one, or the inevitable Zelda one... then a few months later we’ll get the Pro announcement.

Re: Soapbox: The NYT Thinks We're Gaming Too Much, But It's One Of The Only Things Keeping Me Sane

VR32X

Just communicate with your kids and spend time with them. Learn about their favorite games and hobbies with them, understand why they like them. Let them learn and understand stuff about you. Show them other things. Be a parent. Have family board game nights or movie nights if you’re stuck inside. I don’t know. Probably harder than it sounds, but you don’t need NYT to tell you this. Haha

Re: Poll: What's The Best Kirby Game?

VR32X

@the_beaver If you have Nintendo Switch Online, I greatly recommend Kirby’s Adventure on NES. I also recommend Kirby’s Super Star or Dreamland 3 on SNES, but especially Super Star. All of those games have held up well since my childhood. All the other Kirby games you’ll see on the SNES service are good too, but aren’t necessarily sidescrolling platformers. If you don’t have NSO, theres a free week on MyNintendo right now.

Re: 3DS And Wii U Software Discounts Have Been Removed From My Nintendo

VR32X

Nothing can match Club Nintendo’s assortment of free games and things like the gold nunchuck, CDs and game card cases. It made the Wii U era truly great. I didn’t need anything from MyNintendo when that came to be. I merely humor it. We should however bring back Nintendo Power stamps and trading cards.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Five More Titles

VR32X

I won’t complain, as theres plenty I haven’t even touched on these NSO apps. I’ve had Breath of Fire 2 on my mind for months, off and on, and I haven’t bothered with it. Last time I booted up the SNES app I rushed through and beat all of All-Stars when it dropped. Then another time I flew through StarFox. When I play my Switch, its always something new or a newer favorite. I think all these games are nice, and deep cuts are welcome. I do try them sometimes, even though most of those Jaleco games are the odd ones I never wanted to rent as a kid. They’d always be there looking lonely at the Video & Tan store. Lol.

It does puzzle me that we don’t have a Gameboy section, yet. I’m sure it would do well. I’d play stuff like Wario Land and Kirby’s Dream Land 2 right away. And hope for deep cuts like Sword of Hope.

Glad we got the full DKC trilogy before Christmas. Cheers everyone.
