Gamers should be happy about this. Sure games a way more expensive now than they were just a few months ago. But that’s democracy. Gamers wanted higher prices so now we have higher prices.
@JDCII specs have never been what sells systems. The PS1 was weaker than the N64. The PS2 was weaker than the GameCube and Xbox. The Wii was weaker than the PS3 and 360. And Nintendo’s handhelds have always been out powered by other handhelds yet have always outsold them.
Sony needs to make more games. I got my PS5 this year finally. Mostly just to avoid the tariff price increases. Astro Bot is great. But that and a handful of others are all that are system sellers on it. Sony really needs to up their first party output or we’ll end up with just PC and Nintendo left.
@Hawkes142 I don’t disagree at all. The remakes have fantastic music. But the original’s lack of sound really does make it feel more isolated and alien to me. Both of the remakes are overall much better games. But I will credit the original for the few things I think it does better.
Really interesting piece. I will say that I think the sense of isolation in the original is still unmatched in the remakes. You really feel like you’re descending into an increasingly alien and isolated hive in the original. And neither of the remakes quite captures that same feeling.
We’re in a time where game companies are canceling projects, laying off workers, and raising prices. The fact there was anything to show at all is a miracle.
Woof. This comment section. If these people were around in 1998 Ocarina of Time would have been panned for running at an incredibly inconsistent 20fps.
Game companies are raising prices while replacing real work and workers with AI. They obviously think gamers will let them get away with that. It remains to be seen if they do.
So we're finally here. Performing for you. If you know the words you can join in too. Put your hands together, if you wanna clap. As we do not credit the writer of this rap. Huh!
@Medic_alert game companies want you to switch to all digital. They want to be able to completely control the prices of games without second hand physical versions keeping the prices lower. You do what you want. But the industry will be worse off if physical versions completely disappear.
This is really dumb. That means when Capcom joins the chorus of game companies trying to force the death of physical media they’ll point to how 100% of their Switch 2 sales are digital. Which isn’t really true.
I think I'll pick up Prime 4 on Switch 1 and then take a good break from gaming for a while. It's too expensive and too time consuming. And I've honestly just not been enjoying it as much as I used to.
I think the Switch 2 will end up being my last Nintendo console. By the time the Switch 3 comes out physical games will not exist at all and most games will probably have substantial generative AI contributions in development. I ain’t about all that. It really feels like my future participation in the hobby is starting to wind down.
@Jester676 I'd agree with you. If I hadn't already been deliberately avoiding smart devices for years. I do have a phone. But that's the one device I have and I know where it is at all times and just assume it's recording me constantly. That might seem a bit paranoid. But it's probably not that far from the truth.
If they follow up raising their game prices with using AI generated art in their games. I'd be done with them. I am not ever giving my money to a company that outsources creativity to AI ever. Period. I may as well type my own prompts into AI for free at that point.
I'm convinced that if tariff man didn't win these things just wouldn't exist at all. Or at least be way less prevalent. These obviously exist to keep the costs of physical versions as low as possible. Now why would companies suddenly need to think about keeping physical goods from costing so much? What recent occurrences have made all three main gaming companies raise their prices? Gee I wonder.
@DiggleDog Sony, Xbox, and Nintendo have all raised prices since Trump enacted tariffs. That's not politics. That's reality. People want to burry their heads in the sand and pretend politics doesn't impact real life. But inevitably reality's waves will wash up onto the beach and drench everything there, whether buried in the sand or not.
@Medic_alert Can you explain how game key cards are worse than buying a digital game, then? One is resalable until the servers shut down. One is not. Both become unusable once the servers shut down unless you already have the data downloaded on your system. I just don't get the anger. Still better than full digital. Probably will be cheaper too since used game key cards will be around for at least the next 10ish years until Nintendo closes the servers.
It’s so odd to me that people are so upset about these when Nintendo has literally been charging for games you don’t get to own at all on NSO and people are totally fine with that.
So it sounds like after you use the system transfer tool you’ll lose all your data on the Switch 1. I don’t like that. I plan to keep my Switch 1 around.

And that right there is why Nintendo has been king of the gaming landscape since 1985.
