Nintendo has just released a brand new extended trailer for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, coming to Switch on 16th October.
It gives us our best look at the game yet - explaining how the kits, karts and tracks work. Set up for the game involves placing down four gates, then driving through each one to create a course layout. An area of roughly 12' x 10' is recommended.
The main mode in the game is Grand Prix - featuring eight cups and 24 different races in total. Kart speed is based on class (50cc - 200cc). There are also environmental themes to spice things up and each race is filled with familiar items like red shells, ink-spilling Bloopers, and even Bullet Bills that guide the kart around the track by itself.
In addition to Grand Prix, there's custom race, time trials and a mirror mode. Get the full rundown in the video above and tell us if you'll be picking up Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit when it launches later this month on the Nintendo Switch.

So i'm buying this. You know nintendo I just love how you telling use how the play mario kart Its not like We have not played it, right? Also why the hell is race maker not a thing yet? this is just mario kart 9 before 9 (and I don't mean 8)
This looks a bit better than i was expecting. Track-making was a concern, but it looks easy.
Also, 200cc!? That I have to see.
Why couldn't this stuff release when I was a kid?
@Snatcher Your comment makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Looks cool, but it is too rich for my blood. And extra $300, plus $100, for two players?
This is so insanely cool that I'm bummed that it will be out of most people's (including my) price range...
@Apportal YA I know I did a edit when I was watching the video so think of it as me talking as i'm watching the video sorry about that.
I just saw Mario Kart, in depth look, and Nintendo and sped over here as fast as humanly possible. Or, well, as fast as a horseshoe crab can go.That 9, such a fickle number.
i ordered a Mario and Luigi from Wal-Mart.
Looks great.
my niece and nephew will love it.
i wish i had the space.
did they say if it runs on a carpet?
Definitely buying this for the novelty of having it. While I don't see myself playing this beyond 5 hours or so I am genuinely impressed with how this thing works. The fact that there are still cups is a surprise and seeing how they managed to incorporate different play styles for each cup is astonishing.
@w00dm4n Not in the video but they released a statement saying it runs on most rugs, but don't go trying to use it on long hair rugs like shag.
I really hope this isn't going to be switch's "real" mariokart...it looks utterly ridiculous! It's definitely not for me, as I've got a tiny apartment and barely any space to do fancy tracks--never mind start putting cardboard gates and junk all over the floor! Also, how portable is this game going to be when you need to have an R/C car running around to play it? it's an interesting idea, a modern take on the "micro machines" racing game on the NES, but I really hope this is not the real mariokart. If it is, then Mariokart has officially jumped the shark; they got no new ideas...
@Chowdaire
Awesome thank you.
I hope it does well.
I want a Wario.
@micronean
Calm down, it's being developed by an external development team that was founded on making AR and experimental games.
If Nintendo wants to make a new Mario Kart game, this ain't going to stop them.
@micronean This is actually a new idea. But this isn't MarioKart 9.
I love this idea! It's really kool, expensive for me so I won't be getting it at first.
But with all the stuff they showed off.... It's awesome to see what could be in the new Mario Kart 9 or whatever they will call it.
Custom tracks, mirror mode on all CCs, costumes for characters and new vehicles, new items, and even new camera modes (first person, third person and closer camera 3rd person). Exciting stuff!
Would be awesome if they released an amiibo kart, were you can scan an amiibo (probably
super mario selection) and play as that character.
A shame you can only race koopalings...
I would consider picking this up but I don't live in a spacious house that is so big I can actually set up a race course. It seems to be aimed at a very specific market which is all well and good. But I feel it may have been a better seller if the Karts were smaller.
Interesting, so Mario Kart Maker? I love the idea but I feel the price is just too high atm, the idea of physically building tracks might wear off over time and especially playing alone as two cost £200. If they did a bundle deal for 2 I'd be interested but I will hold off. Seems like this might be the only new Mario Kart we get for the Switch.
I guess Nintendo's marketing experts figure that if you can afford a house big enough to play this in, you can afford that extra kart...and an extra Switch. But seriously, four karts and four Switches?!? I'd really love to see the percentile of users who will ever be able to experience that.
It's a novel concept; I'll give it that. But knowing the target demographic (primarily kids...well-to-do kids) and the chaos that can ensue amid the combination of holiday excitement and say, fighting over who goes next (can I get a witness?), somehow I suspect that some of these real-life, physical, and expensive karts aren't going to last through the New Year.
Looks awesome!
Amazing - although looks to require a fairly large room.
Looks so good. Just the cost of entry is a blocker. I'm surprised y'all are saying this is for kids though - who at university would not see this as an awesome party/drinking game?
I wonder what the maximum track length is, the range of the signal from the karts to the Switch, and the battery life. Would be cool to setup a track on a IRL road somewhere identifiable.
So with software being digital I guess there goes the re-sell opportunity which would have made me consider buying this.
I do think it looks great though.
@micronean It might be the only new Mario Kart to be on the switch but it defo won't be '9' per say - Mario Kart 8 is the best selling wii u and switch game - sales together are insane and it is still top of the charts every week - they aren't going to be making a new full blown MK when the old one is selling better than most games in general - also how is this 'jumping the shark with no new ideas' when they've literally changed the whole concept of mario kart, allowing you to put Mario in a real world enviornment, design your own courses and be creative, that is literally the complete opposite of 'run out of new ideas' - You would never in a million years see the likes of Sony or Microsoft pulling this kind of thing.
I'm really warming up to the idea, but without splitscreen i won't be able to get any multiplayer out of this, and when i'm playing Mario Kart i usually don't play as Mario and Luigi but as Koopa, Shy Guy, Toad or Yoshi.
So right now, i'm not buying it, but if they add a splitscreen mode and other racers in the future, i'd get it.
I would love this but just a little expensive as a multiplayer game.
At least the switch now has its own Mario kart.
already pre ordered my little boy keeps asking when it comes out plus drivers assist as well is great
I think this is phenomenal for kids — like the best gift they could ever get. And pretty darn fun to at least toy around with as an adult — though not sure I'll be ponying up for it at the moment.
@jimtendog Move along then. Plenty of room in the Xbox forums.
@jimtendog Your comments speak for themselves. "Sick of Nintendo using rubbish gimmicks."
@Gumbo1995 Actually, it's not a new idea. Like I mentioned, the idea of a driving video game where the cars are tiny and run on courses made up of everyday objects is not new. They did this on the NES. But that's not what I'm arguing about. When I mean by 'no new ideas' is that the programmers aren't thinking up of tracks or themes from their own imaginations (they're leaving that task to the public). But, as mentioned in other posts, this isn't a "real" mariokart. Which makes me relieved. It's a nice R/C + video game blend. It'll probably get old really quick for anyone who is older than 10 yrs old, who have parents that don't want clutter all over the floor of their house. I hope it's possible to take the whole thing outside and make courses out in the backyard, or neighbourhood, etc. that would be more interesting.
Not for me, though I'd be all over this if I was a kid.
The price is a bit too high IMO - not even Wii Fit bundled with the Wii Fit Balance Board was that expensive.
I’ll wait for the reviews. I have an apartment but could probably lay out a track. Having seen the new trailer it does look kinda cool.
Will only be a single player game though at that price
