I know a couple of people who are their switch as a binding of Isaac machine mainly and are quite happy with it that way. Never really felt the pull of it after a few hours myself but it's got crazy play times by many on my friends list.
For all the issues with many free to play games Fortnite seems to be pretty good value all round. I bought season pass for my kids and since then they have continued to earn enough for the next season as well as unlocking a ton of skins that has kept them happy. They have been playing for months, getting loads of new stuff and all for about £7 each. That is a model I can support. See how for you get in FIFA with just £7
like many i am torn on this one. long RPGs are best on switch time wise but this is at its heart a port of a PC game that looses out without keyboard and mouse. But its sitting in my steam backlog un-played. I will, in all probability wait until a sale comes along, add it my switch back-log and then continue to complain I just can't find the time to play all the games I want.....
I not a fan of PC emulating current gen games which is what is needed to create the above but I did take a look at BOTW on my powerful PC just to see it at its best. It was incredible how much extra detail Nintendo put in it games that their current gen systems can not show. Its almost like they are making them pre-ready for release on the next three generations. And I do have my 100% legal and legit copy of BOTW and 200+ hour play file on my switch.
reading through all these comments I really feel like I missed out. I never really took any notice of Nintendo until the switch came out. I bought a wii when it was first released but someone at work was desperately trying to find one for his daughter that Christmas and I was only playing on my new PS3 so i re boxed it and made sure she had a happy xmas. I loved the OG psp but it did not get a great deal of use after a first few months. Before that I was always mainly a PC gamer, still am really. But maybe I will go out grab a new 2DS and just load up on the top games voted here and see what I missed out on
I know the game did not live up the early hype but I bought it not so long after release on the PS4 for a knocked down price of £10 and made my way center not once but twice. I found it relaxing. I bought it gain last week ready for pc vr release and at this point feel I have already had more than my money worth. Buy boy am I excited to boot up on my shiny new index vr set!!
@impurekind Yep, This is what made me jump on the index. I understand it has full use of knuckles controllers also. I simply can't wait... 3 days and counting
I just can't give these games the time needed anymore unless I can take them on the go, Still not 100% if I want to get back into a DQ games though. Demo may be just what i need to convince me either way.
It might just be Switch owners like to stay away from virtual slot machines disguised as video games and without all that tax on stupidity rolling in it's just not of any interest to EA. EA games definitely hold no interest to me anymore.
@YagaMaki Going to need a PC for the best smoothest frames but I'm with you on the One X being my 3rd party platform of choice these days. For my old eyes and reaction times its every bit as good as the high end PC my teenager plays on.
It looks more like a die shrink for the current X1 chip. This would result in a rework of the current switch and we have already seen a FCC submission for this. It does not look like it will have any user facing changes though, beyond maybe a SKU with a bit more storage and improved battery life. These updated internals should arrive at the same time as the lite model as they will lower production costs. That said I do expect a switch "pro" model to show itself but only in 2020.
@nintendoknife Yep, good call. I would actually be surprised if someone had not found a hack to enable hdmi over usb-c within 12 months of release. But I think hand held does more than just drop resolution, a lot of post process effects can be dropped on a on a 6 inch screen. I don't think it will be much of a looker when blown up to 55 inch
@Heavyarms55 It is almost certainly to do with thermals, By shrinking the device they have a much smaller thermal envelop to work with. In TV mode the increased clocks equal increased heat. There is no cost in enabling TV mode as it is part of the X1 i/o package and both devices have a usb-c that can carry the signal. But you can't cheat physics, higher clocks need more power produces more heat.
@nessisonett The switch has pretty much replaced steam as my go to for indies, they tend to suit handheld perfect. Also can not see myself spending 100 hrs in front of a fixed screen to play any traditional RPG. But big AAA's its either PC or for a more laid back controller action game console at a push
The whole is this a game or a visual Novel argument has been running since this first released on PC. Either way, this is a great experience and made it into my top 10 list for that year (2017 i think). I highly recommend.
For me, the switch is 80% indies and 20% first party at this point. Even though I get much more play time on the switch than ps4, xbox, pc and VR combined I don't think multiplats is where it shines. I did get, and enjoy, Skyrim and Doom on the switch both of which I already owned but the novelty has worn off somewhat. If it is not a game that works well handheld with the small screen then its a pass from me.
@PharoneTheGnome The IP was not created for the games, it is from a polish set of novels. But if it offends you so much I would ovoid the game as like the other in the series the witcher 3 deals with subjects such as racism, bigotry and sexuality.
So this has been in the works for the last 2 years then by the sounds of it. I'm thinking this is going to be here 2020. The game engine and environment is already so highly tuned. BOTW was almost bug free. So I can see this getting on quickly. Also with no need for Wii-u support should have more headroom to play with
24 Million is a pretty impressive number. But I don't see much motivation at this time to release a new game when MK8 is still a regular top 10 charting title. Most switch sales will also pick up a copy of mk in the first few weeks. It's like the Nintendo GTA V. I expect they will let it run for some time yet
While it's true Sonic has mostly been rubbish since the 90s, Sonic racing transformed was great game. It was the first game I really played with my kids. We would turn down the lights, put it on the projector at about 100". Such good memories...
@MJInnocent Depends on how much you like him, my seven year old is a real little bugger so I've been thinking the sekiro would be the perfect gift to put the little rotter in his place
My, my...That does look good. Never pre-order but it looks like the perfect Switch game. I have to wonder how successful the switch would have been if it was not for this great Indie tilde wave washing over the industry.
So no one can convince me now that P5 will not be coming to the switch. Its name checked so often its now a certainty. Would not be pushing a PS4 exclusive title so hard!
I'd be very happy to get this on switch. I'd just love to play this but no way I have 100 hours to sit in front of a TV and play it. I now don't pick up anything for the Xbox or PS4 that is over 20 hours, I just never get the time.
@Bunkerneath Its not just a boss rush but it is manly a boss rush so if that's not your thing I would suggest a hard pass even though it is a great game and a real treat for the eyes
@fafonio @KingdomHeartsFan I bought a One X as its the best way to play multi platforms by far at the moment. But I do have a house full of sons and we need a few consoles to keep the peace.
Add a +1 for Ori, its a great game thats perfect for the switch, but I'd also like Zelda on the One X. It would be so beautiful in 4k/60fps I would double dip in a matter for seconds
If you ever need proof that execution is everything than look no further than the wikipad. And why Wiki? Did they just grab the first tech buzz word they found that was not trademarked for game device?
The switch is my indie platform, I can't imagine going back to steam for indies. But I do wish Nintendo would add a Indie Highlights page to the store. All the rubbish mobile ports are hiding the jems and unless I spend a few hours looking on line fore for indie recommendations it really hard now to find worthwhile new games.
I never play the switch docked unless we are sorting out a family disagreement with a round of Arms or Mk so the Switch versions of every multi-plat always have best portable graphics. I'll defiantly be picking up Trials on the switch at some point. Its a great pass around and have a laugh title.
I could make sense for a Nintendo Microsoft cross licencing deal to take on the might of the PS5. Microsoft could offer game steaming for the Switch giving it access to AAA games while offering high end 4k route to playing Nintendo IP. Very controllable and easy to dip their toes in without having to take a leap off the edge. I know I would at least look to explore if I was either party. Being able to play Nintendo IP on the Xbox would not have stopped me buying a switch or more importantly switch software.
@misterMike your mainly right but I did buy a switch just to play BOTW. And it was my first Nintendo console in twenty years 😁. It was the only game of any interest to me at launch even though I've a rather large library now.
@eltomo you may well be right. I have bought 3. Bought original, then bought pro and put the original in the kids play room then had to replace the original when it died and the kids had gotten use to having one. It does not increase the software sales one bit. I do wonder how much the pro and X increased the generations sales as it's the first time there was a real reason to go out and update for home consoles.
While I'm not convinced about this it should be noted that when Microsoft exited the contract in place for the development they would have had penalties, built into the contract from the start. As this was a Platinum IP before Microsoft entered the frame it is almost curtain that all rights would have been returned to Platinum. So this is not impossible, improbable? Yes but most likely possible.
Yeh.....No. I'm afraid the switch just doesn't have the internals for a VR display. I think I saw somewhere that the LCD controller overclocked to around 75Hz before giving up. The PSVR at 90Hz is not great for motion sickness but get by for most people is more seated games. At 75Hz most people will start puking. Also at 720 it will not be a looker but I think the main issue is Nintendo will not want to have kids the world over throwing up on their Switches
@Retupmocnin I don't know how much time you have spent in Japan but it sounds like not anywhere near enough to get a handle on Japanese culture. You are 100% off target. Having lived in Japan on and off for quite a few years the names behind manga, anime and game hits are the cultural icons in Japan in the same way the west currently is fixated on "reality" show personalities or Korea on it K-Pop stars. Not to be rude but have you really ever left your home town?
I was really hoping this was in the direct yesterday, as they would have followed with a download now. But as this is a standalone second game in the series and we know how much game team cherry like to put in their games I expect it will be a few months out. Still great news as far as I am concerned.
Performance would have been shocking using Android. The BSD based kernel is vastly more efficient. I don't believe Nintendo ever considered Android and if they did it would have been for no more than 30 seconds
