Mario's mustache is iconic as his cap and overalls, so what happens when you shave it off? Well, nothing really - it just looks incredibly odd and means Mario doesn't resemble the Italian plumber we all know and love.
An individual by the name of SlashSMC was curious to see what Nintendo's number one mascot looked like in Super Mario Odyssey without his stache and decided to remove it. We'll admit this is just a little bit terrifying.
In saying this, Mario arguably looks closer to his actual age with a clean face. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, in an interview dating back to 2005, Mario is around "24 or 25" years old. If you're eager to see more of this clean-shaven version of Mario in Odyssey, you can take a look at his smooth face in the following video uploaded by ProsafiaGaming:

I want to read Nintendo news not Nintendo olda.😴
@Kawaiipikachu I seem to recall an article about this before.
Actually, nevermind. I can't seem to find an earlier article.
(I'm kidding, obviously)
@Kawaiipikachu I would of gone for "nintendoldies" myself instead of nintendo olda
Leisure suit larry odyssey
Modding game consoles is wrong
The real news is that, like most people, Mario is boycotting Gillette.
Guess the staff here are immune to the rules.
Do not discuss current gen emulators/homebrew
Actually, Shigeru Miyamoto never intended Mario to have a mustache to begin with. It was just a way to make a recognizable nose with the limitations of pixels at the time. I'm glad he has the mustache, though... he just wouldn't be Mario without it.
Why am I getting Superman mustache CGI flashbacks from this?
Neither Mario, nor Tom Selleck, should ever be mustache-less. It goes against the laws of nature!
Mario finally looks 24 years old.
He looks like Fix It Felix from Wreck It Ralph
You guys seem to be really easily terrified.
It looks like another brother. The should create this character and call him Ermano. But they'll never do that. I still wish Nintendo would patch Bowsette into New Super Mario Bros Deluxe, Mario Tennis, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, etc. It would be awesome if Nintendo created a whole new platformer game or RPG based on Bowsette. She is such a great character design.

"Are you as traumatized by this as we are?"
Should I book a psychiatrist appointment for you, @Liam_Doolan? While many of us are seasoned veterans and have dealed with a stacheless Mario before, this seems, by the sound of it, to be totally new for you. I understand that it is shocking at first, but you'll learn to deal with the trauma eventually. There's no need for a straitjacket... yet.
Top Ten Cursed Images You Won't Belive Exist!!!
Do you guys just like to torture us
See these iconic characters without facial hair. You won’t believe number 5!
@Pipq Yeah he definitely has a LSL look to him lol
He looks like Hugh Neutron.
and yet another glitch/issue that we need to fix in this game.
one of the other issues that needs to be fixed is one relating to cappy.
This maybe old news, but it still hurts my eyes
he looks like my old dominos manager lol..
Dude is HOT!
("Something more to say" to meet minimum character requirement, which is really a pretty weird thing if you ask me. Probably some algorithm thingy that I don't comprehend.)
How about removing all his hairs?

When did 'moustache' become mustache??? I'm old.
Mario without moustache = Elmer Fudd
@Kalmaro This one? https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/05/weirdness_someone_shaved_marios_face_and_the_internet_cannot_cope
@Matthew010 I think that's it!
Takes 10 years off him
I've seen far more disturbing fan 'renders'.
He's got a jiggly nose
My dad had a mustache the entire time I knew him, growing up. He had it since before my siblings and I were born, and when I was about 15 or 16 years old, he finally decided to shave it off for good. The first time my siblings and I saw him without a mustache, he looked totally weird to us without it. It just felt like something wasn't quite right. We had never known him without one, so it was totally weird. Now, many more years later, he's never had a mustache since, and we don't think anything of it, as its now normal for us to not see him with one. But yeah, that initial look from having one the entire time we've known him, to the first time we saw him without one, was jarring. But we got used to it over time and never thought about it again.
So that's where Paulo Dybala got transferred to
This reminds me of people who get traumatized when I remove my glasses. Id*ots.
@60frames-please Ermano? As in the Spanish word for brother, "Hermano"? I thought Mario was supposed to be Italian.
He looks like Elmer Fudd or Fix-It Felix Jr (who pretty much is supposed to look like a Mario knockoff). Only problem is that his mouth is modelled with moustache in mind, so it takes odd shapes sometimes. This actually happens to men who had moustaches for years and shave them off, their upper lip is stiff and they look weird.
@60frames-please Or reuse Stanley from DK3.
@60frames-please But rendering Bowsette's character model with her most iconic polygons would be such a strain on the physics systems of those games; is it even possible that they could run at 60 frames a second?
You don't mess with the 'stache...
I'll just leave this here:
@Dodger You forgot to demand a physical release.
Might have been better to do it in movember, ðŸ˜
can l just say that is more UGLY than before
@RazumikhinPG I left an N out. I should've said Ermanno. Yeah, Italian and Spanish are very closely related. I wasn't trying to reference hermano, or brother, in Spanish. I was thinking of Ermanno Olmi the famous Italian director. But since the name is similar to brother it would be appropriate for Mario and Luigi's brother's name. Also, I don't really want this character. I want Bowsette to be in games.
@Dodger I'd be happy with N64 quality models and polygon counts. Keep it smooth!
Yep....... Not my Mario.
I not a fan of PC emulating current gen games which is what is needed to create the above but I did take a look at BOTW on my powerful PC just to see it at its best. It was incredible how much extra detail Nintendo put in it games that their current gen systems can not show. Its almost like they are making them pre-ready for release on the next three generations. And I do have my 100% legal and legit copy of BOTW and 200+ hour play file on my switch.
What is this? The Youtube recommendation feed?
i like him without it i don't care what anyone says, nintendo can even make a game where we play as mario as a teen with no facial hair and i'd be delighted to play that.
I do not want that, get that away from me
It Kinda reminds me of a awful kid show XD.
People seem obsessed with removing his moustache. Its terrifying!
