Re: Review: FIFA 18 (Switch)

TooBarFoo

For me portability is the killer feature with this version of Fifa so I'm in and as ultimate team is my main gig it has the main guts I want. I am happy time was spent to make it bug free rather than pack more features. But yes.. next year will be more demanding

Re: This 400GB Micro SD Card Looks Perfect For Switch Owners

TooBarFoo

Not needing to install retail games makes a big difference to storage needs at least for those of us buying mainly physical. Minecraft user files are the biggest user of internal space for me, my 128G still has 107G free with 19 games (6 physical, 3 just demos). In the next year or so 256G will cost same as 128 does today and I expect that to be fine. Always better value to avoid the bleeding edge of tech

Re: Deals: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games and Accessories for September and October

TooBarFoo

@Godsent I used this (or similar) to order arms, splatton and Mario odysseys when they where all listed at £59 (ie before they had real pricing) and it was still honored with the price drops. with the £6 pre-order and this £20 discount each game ended around £34 each. As you can only use each once its a great way to stock for the future. Thanks to @Curlynob just used the final one.

Re: Nintendo Ordered to Pay $10 Million Following Patent Lawsuit Loss

TooBarFoo

Dallas patient jury just needs one thing to decide a case USA vs (rest of world) vote USA. A company I worked with fought and lost 17 at jury and won all 17 at appeal. I understand it is supported as it funds a lot of legal practice and the court system bringing in not insignificant revenue to the city but is widely recognized to be a flawed system.

Re: NBA 2K18 to Have All Modes and Support amiibo on Switch, But Won't Hit 60fps

TooBarFoo

Here's the thing, any console player stressing moaning about frame rate is just silly. My PC destroys any console on both resolution and frame rate, but I still chose to play mostly on the switch, my weakest system. We make our choices, mine based of life style, but to then moan that the world (and laws of thermo dynamics) wont adapt to suit us is just silly. Of course the game will be a tiny bit better at 60 fps but in no way in a game changing way. If this game is your cup of tea then you now have a number of great options, If you want the greatest smoothest game play on your pricey PC rig its there for you, want easy connivance and on your sofa play PS4/XBox is ready and waiting, want flexibility of take anywhere and sofa play the switch is for you. Its great to have all these choices but you have to chose, you can not have it all!

Re: EA Talks Up the Positives of FIFA 18 on Switch Not Using the Frostbite Engine

TooBarFoo

@gatorboi352 You still need a PS4 for sony games and a PC for Xbox / No console games even if the switch could play all AAAs. But then the switch would not be portable and you'd need another portable system. To be honest I just think if you spent the time you invested in complaining in a bit of hard work you would be that little bit less poor and able to do a quick ps4 order on amazon. Might just make you a happier person!

Re: EA Talks Up the Positives of FIFA 18 on Switch Not Using the Frostbite Engine

TooBarFoo

@Al_Godoy I've been a mainly PS player for many moons but love my switch, first time I even thought about getting a nintendo console, I have gone from having maybe 4 hours a week game time to fitting in around 20 between family, friends and work. The switch makes a fantastic second games platform. I'll be picking up the switch fifa this time round for this very reason.

Re: Editorial: Farewell to the Flawed Miiverse, But Thanks for the Memories

TooBarFoo

The biggest issue with miiverse was users shared nintendo stuff with other nintendo users and not on other platforms. It acted to decentivize nintendo fans sharing things on twitter and facebook to bring in new fans. Its success was kind of a own goal. Although I say this as a general presumption not knowing or ever used Miiverse.

Re: Video: FIFA 18's Gamescom Trailer Shoots And Scores, But Can It Look This Slick On Switch?

TooBarFoo

All the noise about frostbite is from those who perhaps do not understand software development. Frostbite is a multifunction development platform with a diverse set of physics engines and render pipelines. To support a new platform across the whole engine of a single game is totally inefficient. It could very well be the IDE, physics profiles and render stream used on the switch version all are plucked out of frostbite. This is how I would look at handling the project given time restraints. The use of a engine, components of said engine or even lack there off do not tell us anything about a single game. The only time discussion of an engine is relevant is when the limitations of a engine are known and it is clear this would place limitations on results

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Races Up The UK Charts, But Digital-Only Sonic Mania Is Absent

TooBarFoo

Even being someone who very much likes physical releases and digital being just one reason i play less on the PC now ( they are other bigger reasons of course) This week I bought Hellblade and Sonic. Two of the largest games at the moment simply not accounted for. I wounder what effects smash hits like PUK Battleground would have had a this years charts. At 7 million sales, all digital over the last few months Its strange to think it will not have its place in the historical charts

Re: Editorial: Is This a Golden Era of Gaming? Absolutely

TooBarFoo

I've been gaming since 1976 (pong) my first ever nintendo was a game and watch. Gaming has in general improved in leaps and bounds year on year since the start, sure some years are stand outs and some not but the trend rolls on. Anyone who looks back and sees a better time for gaming is in truth looking back fondly to a time in their lives. the golden age is gaming is 2017, then 2018, 2019...... For all the change I have seen I truly hope we have just scratched the surface and even greater adventures wait over the horizon. And as long as I have my sight and sanity I will look forwards to new adventures in far away places.

Re: Gamevice Launches Patent Case Against the Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con Concept

TooBarFoo

Gamevice patent is for clip on controllers that use a dual connector and structural bridge to link controllers over tablet / phone. They are claiming the switch itself contains the connector and structural bridge. This is really a vast stab in the dark. They also raised $12.5 M 6 weeks ago. I can not but think they are seeing the investment in this court case as cost effective marketing to get the profile of their product raised. Seen in that light it is working.

Re: ARMS Version 2.1.0 Is Now Available

TooBarFoo

@Jeronan just so we are clear, those are not facts they are opinions, I play tons of arms single player and have had over 30 hours of family local PvP which is great fun, at least in our opinion. See how that works. Opinions differ fact remain facts.

Re: Talking Point: Capcom, the Nintendo Switch and Gaming Business Realities

TooBarFoo

I will not be spending any of my limited PS4 / Xbox time on monster Hunter world. I have time to play 8 games a year on my main consoles and going forward I'm no longer going to build a backlog I never get round to. Unless you are in my top 6 for the year ( two slots for the dark horses) the only way to get me to open my wallet will be to release on the switch where I have more game time.

Re: Take-Two "Very Optimistic" About Switch, Expects Sales To "Continue To Be Great"

TooBarFoo

@electrolite77 I agree most people will pick up their version of the years top 5 on other consoles but this was not my point. The point is most players only pick-up games they have time to play and miss the rest. With the switch adding more play time these equate to extra sales, not sales moved from another platform. Simple math. Most publishers know how addition works!

Re: Rumour: Dataminers Appear To Have Unearthed More ARMS Characters

TooBarFoo

I'm to old and to slow to play much Arms online but between playing with the family slowly making my way through the grandprix (Only on level 4 for most fighters) I already have more than 40 hours in, more than most AAA games, and it is a game that will keep filling gaps between other releases on my daily travel. I am happy with the price and hope the good sales will lead to a lot more content.

Re: Take-Two "Very Optimistic" About Switch, Expects Sales To "Continue To Be Great"

TooBarFoo

@electrolite77 I have a PC, PS4 pro and will get a X Box one X. The limit to games I buy is time, plan and simple, Time. If a game is release on the switch I am 10x more likely to pick it up as I have 10x more time to play, 3 hours travel time each week day! Like most gamers I know, the switch is the first time I have took notice of Nintendo. I expect the switch to do a lot better with third party than past Nintendo consoles as a lot more hardcore gamers add it to their collection.

Re: Feature: Just How Bad Is Hori's Wired 'Solution' For Switch Voice Chat?

TooBarFoo

@Bengals76 @BLP_Software @Shiryu @tguk911

The Switch has a Broadcom/Cypress BCM4356 SoC for 802.11ac Wifi, and that has integrated Bluetooth 4.1 support. There is no hardware reason why the switch does not support Bluetooth headsets. Here is the spec sheet.

http://www.cypress.com/documentation/datasheets/bcm4356-single-chip-5g-wifi-ieee-80211ac-2-2-macbasebandradio-integrated

The Audio chip is a Realtek ALC5639, it has a mic in and audio out. Here is the documentation confirmation.

http://developer.download.nvidia.com/embedded/jetson/TK1/2014-03-24/JetsonTK1_ModuleSpecification_PM375_V1.0.pdf

The absolute only reason the switch does not support a standard wired headset in handheld mode and a bluetooth headset in handheld and TV mode is simply Nintendo chose not not. The extra system load, once the heavy lifting is offloaded to the above chipsets is so small it is of no practical effect.

I find it frustrating when even a Nintendo focus news site such as this can not get these clear facts right and repeat the Nintendo line that there is nothing they can do at this point, the hardware is the hardware. Yes, the hardware is the hardware, anyone can take it apart and see what is supported and many have. (Big fan of NintendoLife, just to be clear )

They are using a BSD based kernel, again this we know, as does the PS4. All these chipset functions are fully supported in the BSD stack so the tools are there to deploy a standard voice solution.

I would expect the very first system mod released once the kernel is exploited will be a on system version of the online app.

Sorry for the long post but we should all be very clear the only roadblock is Nintendo.

Re: Editorial: amiibo Has Stalled, Because Nintendo is Forgetting What Makes It Special

TooBarFoo

I just ordered the my first Amiibo, link archer ready for Skyrim and Breath of the Wild Guardian from the UK Nintendo store, I just checked and the Guardian are no longer in stock but where 2 days ago, Guess I got lucky, although I am not sure why I bought the Guardian, I'm not a collector. It just looked good and thought I would have link face it off on a shelf. Hope they are display quality

Re: Editorial: Nintendo, Somehow, Has Gone Backwards With Voice Chat on the Switch

TooBarFoo

In game chat with randoms has long been totally toxic, a barrage of foul mouth sexist and raciest commentary. But I have many ps4 friends who I only meat with online. My oldest son just started playing Overwatch with his cousins who live 300 miles away and in a few weeks they each know the others school friends and have meet ups planned when they next visit. There are many good sides to group chat online. My son played Splatoon for 2 hours yesterday and than asked to put Overwatch back on. He loved the game but missed his friends. It is unlikely he will go back and play more Splatoon. Nintendo is losing tomorrows customers. This may not hurt the bottom line today but the adults of the future will not be Nintendo buyers.
