Re: Nintendo Switch Was The Best-Selling System In December And Throughout 2018 In The US

TooBarFoo

@Heavyarms55 The X box ONE x is a beast of a console and is where I play all my TV multiplats right now. I think it has gone some way into rescuing them this gen. They will not catch PS4 and it will take they a while to rebuild their studios after they pulled down the shutter at the start of this gen but they seem to have set themselves up ok to compete again next gen. We all win when there is more competition. And its great to see Nintendo back in the mix.

Re: Persona 5 Switch Rumours Intensify

TooBarFoo

@MrGawain and yet Yakuza 0 is right there on my PC today. So that kind of confirms that was a "just buy it, don't wait" statement. I have been convinced Persona would be switch bound for a long time. No one puts loads of effort into something and then just closed their eyes to the opportunity to sell said something and increase returns without good reason. There is no technical, contractual or financial reason not to release on switch and it would be very likely to outsell the PS4 release.

Re: Here Are The Best And Worst Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Characters According To Pro Players

TooBarFoo

So looking at these list and great misery may have been reviled. If we look at the position of each of the Mario bothers Luigi is rated much higher than Mario. Then if we look at the alter-egos Mario<Dr Mario<Wario. So at last we know why Waluigi will has never been in Smash. He would clearly be massively overpowered and become ruler of the known universe. Now realising that may not be in our best interest it may just be time to stop the "where's Waluigi" campaign.

Re: Random: Chinese Tech Firm Xiaomi Transforms Its Phone Into A Switch With This Accessory

While I did enjoy the ultimate candy crush machine comment, the truth is there is a good few high quality and very popular Android MMOs that are either not translated for western markets or just not to western tastes. I would think this kind of product is manly aimed at the the billion or so Chinese, Korean and related markets gamers. For many tech companies the western market is seen as to small, slow and expensive to penetrate. Let's not forget the largest gaming company by far is the little thought of Tencent.

Re: Analysts Believe Nintendo Will Fall Short Of Its Target To Ship 38 Million Switch By March 2019

TooBarFoo

I've just returned from a trip to Shanghai. I was amazed at how many places where selling the switch. No sign of PS4 or Xbox. Speaking with local colleges i'm told it is the same though out china, at least within the large urban areas, of which there are many. I'm not sure where these units are being sourced or the sales accounted for but these may well be only exposed to the market thought quarterly / year end reports.

Re: Video: Fixing The Bluetooth Headphone Blues on Switch

TooBarFoo

@setezerocinco you are using a completely different radio chip in the BT adaptor than the internal switch radio chip. so no relation between the issues. One thing that was just pointed out to me is the low latency BT audio stack is not licence free. With Nintendo having no chance to fly under the radar as far as avoiding technology licencing fees and the cost of the switch stacking up at launch it may have been a simple cost issue. As the hardware supports it and with the switch sales doing well the unit cost must be dropping. This means we could get a software update in the future that adds support

Re: Video: Fixing The Bluetooth Headphone Blues on Switch

TooBarFoo

Knowing a little about hardware design it is still unclear why Nintendo are not using the audio codec for the current radio chip. It must run wifi and LP-BT for the joycons but it is able to support a BT audio stream at the same time. It seems to me that this has been defined design chose and not a hardware limitation

Re: SNES Mini And NES Mini Combined Global Sales Surpass 10 Million Mark

TooBarFoo

@YANDMAN @Fandabidozi For me it was a bit like going back to the place you grew up and totally rad long step hill you skated down is no more than a little slop and the great tree you took pride in topping stands no more than 10 meters tall. Some memories are best with a rose tint and today is better spent making tomorrows memories than trying to re-live yesterdays, at least for myself. I do of course embrace others who happen to see thing differently from myself.

Re: SNES Mini And NES Mini Combined Global Sales Surpass 10 Million Mark

TooBarFoo

I bought 3 NES systems when they first came out for stocking fillers. They where easy to come by for the first couple of weeks in the UK. but we only ever opened one. Always felt bad I had them in a cupboard when they where so hard to come by but did not want to be one of those people who scalped folks on ebay so they sat there until today. Glad everyone who wants one can now get hold of them but I'll not be jumping into the retro again. Sometimes good memories are best left in the past..

Re: Amid Closures And The Decline Of Print Media, Raspberry Pi Is Launching A New Games Mag

TooBarFoo

@rjejr that article does paint a somewhat glumy picture and I while I have no direct experience of the US education system myself, I do now that the US has a fantastic young maker community and hardware scene. So the future for budding tech kids seams bright. My veiws are slightly skewed as I work for the company that creates the reference designs for most mobile chips, including those used in the switch but I see a great landscape for young people to create hardware and software that until now has been only available to large corporations able to spend 100s of thousands on development kits.

Re: Amid Closures And The Decline Of Print Media, Raspberry Pi Is Launching A New Games Mag

TooBarFoo

I already subscribe to the MagPi and Hackspace. Both great mags that encourage youngsters to get their hands dirty with Tech and Maker projects. Hackspace is the standout as it combine tech with other abilities. I highly recommend them to those with kids. I would imagine their gaming mag would be more than just reviews but lead youngsters down the road of modding, experimenting and going beyond just playing games.

Re: Nintendo Switch Hits 22.86 Million Worldwide Sales, Has Now Outsold The GameCube

TooBarFoo

it does feel like it has lost some momentum of late. I still use mine, handhold only mainly for Indies now. My youngest son loves his and plays both handheld and docked whenever he can but both my elder son and my wife have not touched theirs in quite a while. The fact my wife wanted one at all was a shock to us all and I think she may still use it here and there. I'll be interested to see what next year brings and hope it re-energises the switch

Re: Nintendo's UK Chart Presence Takes A Beating This Week As Multi-Platform Stars Lead The Charge

TooBarFoo

Rockstar games are one of the few that still truly shine best on PC. In the last I've spent much longer playing around modding GTA than I ever have playing it. So in this rare occasion I'm going to hold out and see if it ever comes around on PC although it really looks great on a one X. As for Nintendo... I'm not interested in smash or Pokémon so I might be waiting a while for anything outside of the constant flow of great indies

Re: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Switch File Size Revealed, Almost As Large As Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

TooBarFoo

@NEStalgia Its not a difficulty issue. You beat on a enemy 3 levels above you for 30 minutes and they will not feel anything. Changing the difficulty does not change that. You also need certain abilities to progress the story and they are only available above a certain level and so act as a hard lock on the story. I wish I had heard more about this before I bought the game although I would probably have bought it anyway with the good reviews. I enjoy single player adventures. I think if you do all the busy work from the start you would be fine and I was really enjoying the game. but I really felt like I was being shock down and as you may be able to tell I'm still quite pissed about it. Sure I'll shrug it off at some point but not in time for Star Fox

Re: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Switch File Size Revealed, Almost As Large As Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

TooBarFoo

@SmaggTheSmug As I understand it and as it seemed in game a lot more story was left. The first time I felt it was around 16 hours in (at least half of that was already spent checking out side quests) . Main story quests are level locked. So to carry on I had to spend over 5 hours doing mindless rubbish, pay for a instant xp boast or pay for a 1.5x permanent level buster. I did the grind. But after carry on with the main quest for just 2 more hours it happened again. This time it looked like even longer grind or pay up. I just quit the game. I understand if you do every side quest as you find them then your ok but I don't have the time or inclination for fetch quest after fetch quest.

Re: 2K Sports Has Made "Substantial" Contributions To NBA Playgrounds Sequel, According To Saber Interactive

TooBarFoo

@Dalarrun Yep, I was really pissed it was not highlight more in the reviews. I would have saved my coin and not bought the game and others could have make informed choices. Now it seems I'm either out of pocket with a game that has horrible progression and is not fun at all or I reward Ubisoft for their bad behaviour by having to spend more so they can fix the game they bloke on perpose to to shake down players. I'm done with the game and with Ubisoft. Just cancelled my pre order for starlink also

Re: 2K Sports Has Made "Substantial" Contributions To NBA Playgrounds Sequel, According To Saber Interactive

TooBarFoo

I'm I being cynical when I read 2k shaped 20% of the games as the new game will be 20% pure micro transactions. I started playing assassin's creed this weekend and it's unbelievable how Unisoft distroyed the game with mind numbing grind just to try and sell you a speed up package! I'm no longer looking forward to read dead as I'm sure 2K loaded that full of the things also!

Re: Telltale Games Voice Actor Posts Message About Incomplete Projects

TooBarFoo

Its a sad tale of a company chasing the $£$ instead of focusing on the quality. If they had released half the volume and kept the quality high they would have reduced the licence costs and kept sales high. and to chase license after license while just leaving their own IP sitting shows a total lack of direction. Sad but not unexpected

Re: Nintendo Gives Terminal Cancer Patient The Chance To Play Smash Bros. Ultimate

TooBarFoo

Now thats a sad but happy story. Glad Nintendo had a bigger heart than a small minority that commented on the last article. Nintendo might not get everything right but it really seems when it comes to kind of thing they still have a small company / big heart approach that gives their fans that feel good factor. It's the right kind of company to have my loyalty!!
