Following the recent Nintendo Direct, where it was revealed PlatinumGames was "hard at work" on the upcoming Switch release Bayonetta 3, it's now been revealed Japanese director and producer Yusuke Hashimoto - who previously worked on Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 and Star Fox Zero - has left the company. Below is the statement he released on his Twitter account:
"Yesterday, January 31st, was my last day at PlatinumGames. The memories I made during my 13 years at Platinum, working with dozens of talented individuals on Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, and Star Fox Zero, are priceless to me. Let me take this opportunity to share my thanks with anyone who has worked with me, supported me, or played my games. I hope to take the experiences I gained at Platinum and use them on whatever I work on in the future. Thank you again - Yusuke."
At this point in time, it's unknown if Hashimoto's departure will impact Bayonetta 3's development. He was previously the producer of the first Bayonetta and the director of the sequel.
If we hear or see any updates about where he goes next, we'll be sure to let you know. Are you looking forward to Bayonetta 3? Tell us below.

I wish him the best.
A very sad loss. Good luck Mr. Yusuke. We look forward to your next endeavors.
I hope he makes some bangers. Wonder how Bayonetta 3 will turn out though.
I’m sure that Bayonetta 3 will still be good. I wish they would just show gameplay footage already! But I wish him the best, he directed some excellent game creating.
But Hideki Kamiya is still onboard?
@Quarth
Most definitely, at the very least as supervision. Bayonetta is one of my favorite videogame franchises so I hope 3 lives up to my impossible expectations.
@Spudtendo Yeah, I've only just recently played through 1 and 2 and they were extremely entertaining. I hope the third entry is living up to the series name.
Believe it or not, people (gamers) in Japan don't care about news like that. They don't know who Hideo Kojima is or even Miyamoto. You can speak to Japanese and they will look confused when you mentioned individuals from games companies.
In Japan, they only recognise brand: Nintendo, Sega, Capcom, etc. Only in the West, people worshipped the individual game creators.
Oh man that’s a loss for Platinum but good luck to him! Hope the loss isn’t an impact on Bayo 3.
Super excited for Astral Chain though!
@Retupmocnin Don't believe this at all. Yes, the casual video game player won't know who makes the things they love, just like a lot of regular moviegoers don't know the names of directors. But people who have a real interest in games will know gamemakers' names, in the west and Japan alike. A brand means nothing without the people behind it. And people know that. It doesn't matter where you're from.
@Retupmocnin then you must have been speaking to non-gamers in Japan.
Japanese gamers and anime fans even worship the VOICE ACTORS of their favorite games/anime, not to mention the makers.They are celebrities like our popstars to many fans.
When the Director of your 10/10 game leaves your company, I'd say that's a pretty seismic disturbance, and opens the door to speculation that all is not well within. Could be choppy waters ahead for Bayonetta...
@gcunit
Kamiya created Bayonetta. As long as he’s around overseeing things, it’ll be just fine. Not to mention it sounds like this guy wasn’t even involved with Bayonetta 3 anyways- because if he was he would be leaving right in the middle of making the game- that’s the kind of stuff that gets your reputation burned and never hired by another studio again.
I'm sure hell do fine and it'll be interesting to see what he'll be working on in the future. But I'm kinda confused about Bayonetta 3. I expected him or Kamiya to be directing. Seems like neither is.
I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours. I selfishly hope he moves to Nintendo!
@avocadopear People like eating at McDonalds, but do they know who's behind the company? (No, it's not a clown.) Samsung, Coca Cola, Disney, IKEA, etc: do you know who's behind the company? Nobody cares, they like the product, don't care who's making them.
Dang it Nintendo, acquire Platinum already and retain the talent!!
Platnum worked on star fox zero? Okay then. I heard this guy made some great games, so it kinda sucks hes leaving.
@Retupmocnin I don't know how much time you have spent in Japan but it sounds like not anywhere near enough to get a handle on Japanese culture. You are 100% off target. Having lived in Japan on and off for quite a few years the names behind manga, anime and game hits are the cultural icons in Japan in the same way the west currently is fixated on "reality" show personalities or Korea on it K-Pop stars. Not to be rude but have you really ever left your home town?
@Retupmocnin you need some serious help if trolling is all you do man.
@PrincessBowsette Most of his comments does feel like trolling tbh.
@gcunit I doubt he was working on Bayo 3. The Japanese studios don't like to have the same producer/director consistently on bigger series unless it's necessary for a certain style or such, so they shift around their jobs and projects frequently to keep the series fresh. Bayo's style is all Kamiya, so whoever is producing/directing doesn't have much influence on style. I imagine Hashimoto was probably part of Scalebound and has been in a limbo since it was canned and other staff were working on his Bayo3 already.
@Retupmocnin Err...huh? I mean there's a reason game developers needed to operate under pseudonyms for fear of poaching back in the 80s.... "S. Miyahon" indeed.
@Quarth Kamiya's one of the founders of the company....he's not going anywhere unless the company's going down.
Where's he off to?
I hope Bayonetta 3 isn’t impacted too much by this since it’s one of my most anticipated games. Bayonetta 2 was one of the best experiences as a gamer and one of my favorite games. Bayonetta 1 didn’t “wow” me or blow me away like the 2nd installment, but was above average.
@IceEarthGuard Anything to get you guys talking or fighting is good for the comment section.
What I want to know, after doing a bit of research, is how we can get Nier Automata on Switch. I didn't know Platinum Games worked on that game. Not even Bayonetta is that good.
Best of luck to him. Gotta keep growing!
@NintendoFan4Lyf
Atral chain already has a top spot in my list.
Astral chain for smash DLC please lol.
Hmm, hope that Bayonetta 3 still turns out to be good. If not, then we have still Astral Chain!
