Re: Random: Persona 3 Reload On Switch? "The Idea Is There" Says Director

Thief

I think it'll be saved for the Switch's successor. My personal belief is that the porting for P3P and P4G was partly done because Atlus knew P3R wouldn't be coming to the Switch but didn't want to ignore the console's huge market either. This way, Switch players can still experience P3's story while also getting the female route which will not be in P3R. Makes sense to me.

Re: Nintendo Hacker Gary Bowser Says He's "Not Involved" With New Switch Flash Cart

Thief

@Frailbay30 Again, it has nothing to do with it being Nintendo. Regardless of whose IP was being stolen and profited off of illegally, I would still cheer on those involved being punished. I may have felt sorry if this was, say, a kid who didn't know any better and got mixed up with some bad people - but this is a middle-aged man who can clearly tell right from wrong but still went with the latter. And if this latest update is anything to go by, he hasn't changed. He ruined his own life when he willingly went along with the activity. And yes, the case of Gary Bowser will serve as a warning to anyone else foolish enough to considering doing that.

Re: Nintendo Hacker Gary Bowser Says He's "Not Involved" With New Switch Flash Cart

Thief

@MysticX You say that but we have had hackers like Ryan Hernandez who continued to hack even after the FBI gave him warnings. So why shouldn't I assume Bowser would be just as stupid here?

And no, the punishment fits the crime because Bowser should have known better yet participated in the activity with no remorse until his actions had consequences. Again; play stupid games, win stupid prizes. If even one person is discouraged from hacking because of the example set with Bowser, that is a win.

@KendoHead I would have said the exact same thing even if it wasn't involving Nintendo. What's that saying, 'play stupid games, win stupid prizes'? And best of all, the guy clearly didn't even learn his lesson - and I should feel sorry for him? Nah, as far as I'm concerned, this guy brought it upon himself and continues to do so. My sympathy will go towards people who are genuinely wronged when they did nothing to deserve it, not those who knowingly break the law and seemingly continue to do so.

Re: Square Enix Asks Fans To Consider Dragon Quest Monsters eShop Version After Physical Release Sells Out

Thief

@Teksetter First off, pre-orders for the physical copies were up for months with no closure - anyone who wanted a copy had plenty of time to do so. Second, you can still order it through Amazon - you just have to wait a few weeks, the price you pay for not pre-ordering in advance. Third, Treasures did not sell well and gathered dust at all my local retailers until heavily marked down. So I don't blame Square for printing less copies this time around when the demand wasn't there for the last DQ spin-off.

Re: Twitch Ending Support For The Switch App Early Next Year

Thief

@RobynAlecksys Not everyone has the money for that. The TV in my bedroom is older, so Roku/Chromecast isn't an option. So it's kinda rude you would call people like me less than self-respecting and intelligent simply because I have an older TV so I utilized an app on the Switch.

Re: Square Enix's Dragon Quest Series Has Now Sold Over 88 Million Units Worldwide

Thief

@Anti-Matter I actually went back and bought all of the DS/3DS titles during the lockdowns. As for the Switch, I own everything except the first Dragon Quest Builders and currently playing through Dragon Quest Heroes 1 on the PS4 as we speak. Isn't it strange that both Heroes games released on the Switch in Japan but have yet to be released overseas when English versions exist?

Regardless, I love how well DQ has been doing with the release of XI. The success is long overdue and I hope we never have to suffer another period where DQ games are Japanese exclusive.

Re: Rumour: Universal Closing "Big Deal" With Nintendo For Zelda Illumination Movie

Thief

@nessisonett Zelda absolutely is aimed at kids. Just because adults also enjoy the franchise doesn't mean kids are any less wanted.

To quote Poponio from Reddit:

"The Zelda fanbase has somehow deluded themselves into thinking the games have a complex narrative when the story has always been an afterthought, the games are great cause of its gameplay elements, exploration and puzzle solving, which are so consistently good that people just don't care the stories having the nuance of a bedtime story for 5 year olds."

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Desperately Needs A Rival, But Who's Big Enough To Take It On?

Thief

@Yosher You say that but the Pokémon spin-offs don't even come close to mainline sales. As for other products, I've seen stuff like the Mega Construx and books gather dust on shelves.

This belief that anything tied to the Pokémon brand will automatically sell is ridiculous. Most of it does sell because they are things that fans genuinely want; like plushies, cards, etc.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Desperately Needs A Rival, But Who's Big Enough To Take It On?

Thief

@Poodlestargenerica This - you can't throw a stick without hitting a game that's trying to be the next Pokémon. The closest thing we've had to a franchise that was actively competing with Pokémon is Yo-Kai Watch. It had massive push overseas, especially in the West, produced shows and a manga alongside the games, and was even overtaking Pokémon in Japan for a little while. Not to mention it was even exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS, Pokémon's home at the time. But look at it now, essentially non-existent in the West with the 3DS eShop's closure.

@Nanami_Ataraxia I wish co-existing was that simple, but when push comes to shove, the amount of people begging for a Pokémon alternative don't even come close to matching the sales these games actually get. Funny enough, it seems that indie developers have the best shot in pulling this off nowadays since most AAA developers aren't willing to take the risk anymore.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Desperately Needs A Rival, But Who's Big Enough To Take It On?

Thief

As a Dragon Quest fanatic, I would love to see the new Monsters game give Pokémon a run for it's money, but let's face facts. The Dragon Quest brand has only recently began to get significant attention in the West with XI - I don't think it's going to suddenly go toe-to-toe with the highest-grossing franchise in the world with a spin-off.

Yo-Kai Watch was shaping up to be a contender in Japan, but when Level-5 tried going international with it, fell apart. People were touting Temtem as the next possible contender and I don't hear anybody talking about it anymore now that it's out. At the end of the day, Pokémon has comfortably held the throne for monster-catching games on the global stage for decades and it's next to impossible for it to be outdone now.

@Funneefox The majority of Pokémon fans don't care about that though, the sales prove this time and time again.

Re: The Pokémon Franchise Has Now Shipped Over 480 Million Software Units

Thief

@Dragonite89 If they enjoy what is put out, why would they complain? Having a difference in opinion isn't "defending a billion-dollar company", it's not having the same opinion as you. If you don't like that, oh well.

Plus - it stands to reason that the people who are unhappy would eventually move on instead of just staying to criticize again and again.
