I should first note, I have 100% completion on Star Fox Zero. The controls are not good. Zero would have worked better as a New 3DS title with the screens always next to each other, but on WiiU it is disorienting. It would be better if they just made a new one. Starlink was a better Star Fox game, and that was only a small part of the Switch version of the game. Nintendo should have just gotten with Ubisoft after Starlink to have them make a full Lylat system game using the Starlink engine as a foundation.
Since they're actually releasing them, this makes the official release of Forest (I, II, III) and Metal Fort (I, II) tracks a genuine possibility. If you're unfamiliar, these are the other 5 BS tracks that have yet to, and possibly never will, be recovered via BS cartridges. A fan has manage to recreate them recently based solely on video footage, but an official release would be a "StarFox2 on the SNES classic" level of monumental.
This would be a great opportunity to release Ace league and maybe even Joker League with the 5 missing BS tracks. At the very least they can recreate the Metal Fort tracks using Youtube videos. Those 2 actually looked really fun. Even GBA tracks could be in play.
Genesis Black US N64 Original Black PS One White Dreamcast Sega Sports Black (or the ultra rare pure black) PS2 Slim Black (with vertical stand) Wii White or Black XBox 360 S Black WiiU Black PS4 Slim Black
These are just my personal favorites from a visual design standpoint. Typically not a fan of the overly large versions of systems.
If these are just ports of the mobile versions, like San Andreas HD was on PS3, this will be a hard pass. I hated the control changes from the "HD" release, among other changes to it.
Was thinking of taking this back up on PC, but didn't really want to go through the early grind again. This is wonderful news. Say what you want about Marvelous Corporate's handling of the initial launch, but the devs themselves have been fantastic.
I remember in 2K18 story mode, had the bonus upgrade points from preorder, only to squander them without knowing what I was doing. Had to restart my save after corruption early on, only to learn I couldn't get those points back. Then, when I was able to design my own shoe for Under Armour, I quickly realized I wouldn't be able to afford them anytime soon as I had to purchase them for a ridiculous price afterwards. I soldiered on, but man was the progression painfully slow. I didn't even bother with online multiplayer stuff as my rating was awful compared to so many other players. I eventually didn't bother with story and just did regular season mode. The game was pretty solid outside of story mode.
I think it would be awesome if we had our primary weapons as indestructible, yet still able to temporarily pick up weapons of fallen enemies to be used until broken/dropped or maybe even hold to quest completion. Could make for some interesting map/quest strategies.
That said, the mention of fusing for a bonus is interesting. To anyone that has played Hyrule Warriors, is there anything like that in the first game? I know there are upgraded versions of weapons, but I haven't actually played it myself.
Am I alone thinking that Crystalis is a way better game than Zelda II? Zelda II had some good ideas, but I feel like its execution had a lot of issues that make for a far less fun game comparatively.
@StephanDLW A shame because I've really been enjoying the game, though I am an Armored Core fan. But, Marvelous Japan's executives are certainly out of touch with their bizarre streaming stance. I mean, blacking out a Sega/Atlus stream? So far I've only seen one youtuber really posting videos without any issue, but he also only has a couple thousand subs (typically posts a lot of AC vids).
@carlos82 The demo release was an interesting thing for them to do. It was less demo and more early beta (it was actually the June E3 2018 demo, just being released in February 2019). I think it was good they did it for feedback, but too many saw it as a demo for the final release. And, starting with a bad mech in the final release is par for the course, but for a demo to get people excited it wasn't the smartest of choices. That said, if you grinded for some parts you get a better feel for what the actual speed of the game is going to be.
If you rushed through the "demo" (really an early beta released for feedback) than you didn't really experience what gameplay will be like. Knowing what it was supposed to be I played through it all, customized my controls and HUD, collected all the parts, tested the parts out, and then do what you do with beta's and report feedback to the developers. In doing so, my final mech build was fast, powerful, easy to control, and fun. Was there room for improvement, yeah, that happens when the version is 0.1, but the game I see so many complain about was mostly a byproduct of their own impatience matched with the mislabeling of the "demo" by the developers. Sure, there will be some that it just doesn't click with, but I can't trust the opinion of those that rushed through it.
@Mach_Rider The demo was a mixed bag of sorts. An outdated demo that starts off with a couple slow missions and bad parts doesn't give off a good impression for many that just pick it up and play through once. Once you replace parts and weapons and play through missions 3 & 4 it was a lot more fun (though, I also tweaked the hell out of the controls and hud to my liking). This is sorta carried over from the AC series in many aspects. There was a really fun game hidden away in that demo, it just required more curiosity than most demo's. Hopefully they release an updated demo with some focus on initial impressions by giving you good equipment to start.
I don't mind that it has to be attached, or that it has no NFC or IR, but no Gyro (especially now that the game supports it) is glaring. And I may not care about HD Rumble, but does it at least have regular Rumble? I may still get because I am really interested in the game, but this seems half baked (as many HORI products seem to be).
@Angelic_Lapras_King IKR? When I played it originally, I soldiered on, thinking it would be redeemed once I completed DMD and got Super Dante, but no. Instead we got denim costumes. Only went back to it after I had gotten an action replay and messed around with infinite DT and Majin Dante. Without Super Dante I wouldn't even consider playing it again.
@matt1040 The demo wasn't just about getting you to buy it, they genuinely wanted gameplay feedback, but they didn't bother creating a new demo from the one they made for the previous E3, making the demo 8-9 months old by the time they released it to us.
As far as how many viewed it, most players just played with the default mech and didn't really dig into the other parts of the game beyond the orders. Because of this, many don't realize you can fully customize the controls, hud, what warnings appear, or get all the parts to realize that the gameplay can be as fast or as slow as you want.
Don't get me wrong, the demo wasn't perfect, but many people didn't give it their full attention and came away feeling disappointed because the default mech sucks, the HUD felt like sensory overload. Not saying you're in this camp, people are certainly entitled to their opinions, but I feel like many didn't realize all the things they could do to make it play the way they want. None of this will change framerate of course, but being v0.1 it's not like it had been optimized yet.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Since this is still early in the Switch's life and there are not enough made yet it will take a while to reach that number. But, Nintendo's top games tend to continue to sell long after their initial release, so it is certainly possible. Personally, I think we see Smash Kart late 2018 to mid 2019, at which point sales of MK8 would completely drop off.
@FNL I mastered SFZ's controls too, still a crap control scheme. There is a reason that the original SF and SF64 are still considered the best in the series. Their controls may be simple, but it is easy to pick up and the levels are quick to jump into. Sonic is the same way. All the changes they try to make, and the best ones are the ones that stick to the original formula. Why do you think Super Mario Bros original or new still sells as well as it does? Because it stays true to what people loved about the core gameplay. Some might call this stale, but people still enjoy it.
As for XCX, I enjoyed it, but the real strength of the original was it's story, which was much weaker in XCX. It was made be a different team than the original, which happened to be working on XC2.
So they praise it as a good game, and in the same breath denounce it because it plays like the games they set out to emulate from the start. They've said all along what the game was going to be like and reviewers pan it for not evolving past it's primary ambition.
The way I see it, last night I had to run a repair on my PS3 for the 5th time in it's lifespan (it's a 2nd revision model, no PS2 playback). Never had to do that with the Wii, Wii U, and likely never with the Switch. Stability is good.
@Baker1000 Why wait, go now. I've already unlocked all but 1 tower, cheesed a couple field mini bosses and have come across some other things I will not mention because I don't want to ruin the surprise.
Nintendo actually positioned themselves hardwarewise much better than they did with the Wii U.
With the Wii U, the Gamepad was a critical piece of hardware to the system. They could have reworked UI to work completely with the Pro Controller (and in some ways they did), but certain games that worked with the Gamepad didn't have Pro support, so they could never truly drop the Gamepad for a Pro only SKU. Because of this, dropping the price of the SKU was difficult, and remains at $299.99 to this day.
The Switch on the other hand is a self contained unit. They could easily come out with an SKU down the line with no Dock included. Of course they don't want to do that early on because they need the concept of the Switch to be fully understood, but 1-2 years later and they can easily sell a cheaper version simply by removing the Dock (which unlike the Gamepad is sold separately as well).
General cost savings should also be much easier this time around because the "Custom" tegra chip is more likely to see cost savings down the line than the Wii U's truly custom hardware. Plus, being a replacement for the home and mobile hardware (don't be fooled, 3DS will fade in a year), Nintendo's mobile fans are more likely to make the transition as well, which means sales numbers are likely to be higher than the Wii U.
The biggest thing in Nintendo's favor is that they are not selling the Switch at a loss, even now with the Dock. They have left themselves so much room to drop price over the Switch's lifespan that I can't see it not being a success.
@deKay Most you'll get in size for UHS-II at this point in time is 128GB for about $175-200, same as a 256GB UHS-I. No legitimate 512GB available at this time (lots of fakes though).
@kamikazilucas Is that an average of 6 hours a day of standard use or of game time? And I'm talking an actual graphics intensive game, not candy crush.
@therealgamer Based on Nintendo's patent, the headset would be no more than a shell (similar to Samsung's implementation), maybe a battery to increase use time and/or make it act as if it is docked (aka, more power). If true, unlike PS4, this would not cost an arm and a leg, would not require a wired connection since the screen has the hardware, and the joycons already detach so no need for special controllers. It wouldn't be the highest resolution, but the cheapest solution tends to have a good win-loss ratio.
Also, if his sources are indeed credible, why would he ever release their names? Not only would others try to talk with said sources, but they would likely face being cut off of information from Nintendo or whatever company they work for/with. Regardless, less than 2 weeks until we get concrete information from Nintendo itself.
I can understand the kid being a little confused or skeptical. It is not often someone or a group of people just do something nice like this to a singular random individual. He likely has never had anything like this happen to him. I'm sure once it set in what they did that his reaction changed from confused to happy.
A better choice of words would have called it the base size. Not all games need more than 16GB (in most cases less), but for AAA titles, I'm sure 32GB and even 64GB will be available. Though, expect added cost of purchase in those cases ($5-10).
Deus Ex Human Revolution (Port with gamepad enhancements) The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD (Remaster with gamepad enhancements) The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD (Remaster with gamepad enhancements) The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (Dual or not, it's coming to it) Need for Speed Most Wanted (Port with gamepad enhancements) Rayman Legends (Designed with gamepad enhancements in mind) Shovel Knight (Initial release with gamepad enhancements)
Corrected. Odd that you single out games with some of the best use of the gamepad (BotW excluded since we don't know yet).
Bayonetta 2 Captain Toad Deus Ex Human Revolution (Great use of gamepad) Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Fast Racing Neo Fatal Frame Maiden of Blackwater Hyrule Warriors Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD Mario Kart 8 Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Need For Speed Most Wanted (Great use of gamepad) New Super Mario/Luigi Bros U Pikmin 3 Pokken Tournament Rayman Legends (Best version) Shovel Knight (Unquestionably the best console to play it on) Sonic Lost World Splatoon Star Fox Zero Super Mario 3D World Super Mario Maker Super Smash Bros U Wonderful 101 Xenoblade Chronicles X Yoshi's Wooly World ZombiU
@A01 If Smash U and MK8 are easily ported, I don't see why they shouldn't. A lot of people didn't buy a Wii U, so they are missing out on some very good games.
@DTFaux The 3 tickets in a day includes the combined Tickets and Ticket Stubs. So if you got 17 Ticket Stubs then get 2 Tickets, game over. Reverse that, getting the Tickets first, and the game will stop after 10 Stubs. At least that is why I think it stopped for me after getting only 2 Tickets.
@aaronsullivan The most annoying thing with Star Fox 2 is they have an actual physical final version cartridge at Nintendo headquarters. The ROM that you find on the internet isn't even of that version, just one of the last beta builds.
Nintendo needs to do a licensing deal with Square Enix to make SMRPG2: Smithy's Revenge. Make it have 3D World like graphics, only with a full 360 camera. Now that would sell.
Still not sure if I'll get this game. I think it looks fantastic and the battle gameplay looked fun, I'm just not sure I can get over my loathing of JPop.

Re: Here Are The Games Officially Confirmed in the Nintendo Switch Reveal
Wouldn't it be awesome if the dock had a disc drive attachment for Wii/Wii U backwards compatibility. Just a wish, but would make transition easy.
Re: Data Miners Find More New Monsters In Pokémon Sun And Moon Demo
If Litten's final evo is Fire/Fighting then I'm going for Rowlett until I get a shiny.
Re: Feature: Ten Ideal Launch Year Nintendo NX Games
@A01 If Smash U and MK8 are easily ported, I don't see why they shouldn't. A lot of people didn't buy a Wii U, so they are missing out on some very good games.
Re: Miitomo Update to Version 1.4.0 Lets You Use That Annoying Candy To Win Game Tickets
Re: Pokémon GO Cyclists Aren't Thrilled About Being Penalised By Speed Limit
He actually makes a good argument. No one in game walks when hatching, they use the bike. A raise to 20mph seems legit.
Re: Interview: Collector 'Metal Jesus' on His North American Nintendo 64DD Discovery
@aaronsullivan The most annoying thing with Star Fox 2 is they have an actual physical final version cartridge at Nintendo headquarters. The ROM that you find on the internet isn't even of that version, just one of the last beta builds.
Re: Nintendo Producer Highlights How Paper Mario: Color Splash Improves on Sticker Star
Nintendo needs to do a licensing deal with Square Enix to make SMRPG2: Smithy's Revenge. Make it have 3D World like graphics, only with a full 360 camera. Now that would sell.
Re: Review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)
Still not sure if I'll get this game. I think it looks fantastic and the battle gameplay looked fun, I'm just not sure I can get over my loathing of JPop.
