Re: Random: NES Zelda Overworld Has Been Recreated In 'Quest Master'

Sylamp

I still have zero interest in this or an actual "Zelda Maker", part of the fun of dungeons in Zelda games isn't just that they're fun to solve but also how they tie into the overall progression of the games, having a game that's just dungeons and nothing else removes a ton of the appeal of Zelda games for me

Re: Video: Donkey Kong '94 - The 101-Level Sequel To Arcade DK

Sylamp

@LadyCharlie big disagree, this game is already fantastic so there really isn't anything the remake could do to improve it and it would risk making it worse, Mario VS Donkey Kong in it's original version had a lot of flaws that could be (and were) easily fixed in the remake, imo it's always better to remake a game that has flaws preventing it from being great instead of a game that's already great

Re: Best Super Monkey Ball Games Of All Time

Sylamp

Adventure ended up higher than I thought it would, I played through that game to 100% completion recently and it's so bad, really repetitive and frustrating missions, really annoying to navigate overworld and the regular monkey ball levels that play horribly due to completely busted physics engine, turns out reusing the engine that was used for a one-off gameplay segment in Crash Twinsanity wasn't a good idea
still better than 3D though because at least Adventure didn't bore me to sleep, 3D can barely be classified as a game in my eyes
also why is the original Wii version of Banana Blitz higher than HD? the only thing the Wii version has over HD is the soundtrack imo

Re: Review: Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs (Switch) - Pac-Man 99’s Successor Is A Flop

Sylamp

5/10 is generous tbh, I played it for like 2 hours and most of the matches I didn't even feel like I was competing against other people, it just felt like I was playing a widescreen version of the original Pac-Man except there are some new power-ups and I could go to other mazes sometimes and 9 out 10 matches I won was because the other players died from ghosts, it feels like what you do in the game has very little effect on how the match is gonna go

Re: Hands On: Hades 2 Is A Hell Of A Time, Even In Early Access

Sylamp

I really hope this is more replayable than the first Hades, even though I enjoyed it after I experienced all of the main story content I didn't feel like there was any reason to keep playing, it felt like I did everything there was to do and seen everything there was to see and that's the biggest flaw a roguelike can have imo, so hopefully the sequel fixes that

Re: Soapbox: Are We Ready For A 3D Super Mario Maker?

Sylamp

No, even if you have it just be a 3D World level maker it would either be too complicated for your average joe or you'd have to simplify it so much that it would make all the levels made in it very samey
And there is also a fact that regular Mario Maker is filled with garbage, I can't imagine how much worse it would be if it was 3D
This is just one of those thing that, just like Zelda Maker, people think they want but don't really realize how much it would require to make something decent in (although Zelda Maker has a lot of it's own issues that would make it not that fun but that's a topic for a different day)

Re: Nintendo Has Filed Two New Trademarks

Sylamp

I never played Rainbow Curse but I did play Canvas Curse and didn't really like it so I'm not sure I would enjoy the follow-up, it looks very pretty though and I wouldn't be opposed to trying it out
Pushmo on the other hand I would be very excited if it came to Switch, either a new one or a collection of older ones

Re: Nintendo Has Filed Two New Trademarks

Sylamp

@Beanbon @Zeebor15 did you read the article? it says right there that the original trademarks still exist, so this isn't just for the purpose of renewing the trademarks
not saying anything will come out of it but it's a much bigger possibility than Triple Deluxe, which was really only renewed because the original trademark was expiring

Re: Nintendo Has Filed Two New Trademarks

Sylamp

@Maubari I'm gonna be real with you, even if there wasn't any Kirby games coming this year you still wouldn't be getting a DK game because unlike Kirby there aren't any developers who could be making a DK game right now

Re: Best Underwater Levels On Nintendo Switch

Sylamp

I don't know about the "Mario is another franchise that seems to know how to make a good water level", in most of 2D Mario games I find water levels to be really slow and not very fun, and in 3D ones they're even worse, I can't stand the Mario 64 water levels, beside the music they have absolutely nothing going for them
The only times I enjoyed water levels in a Mario game were Galaxy with that shell you can pick up, Odyssey with the Cheep Cheep capture and Wonder thanks to the Dolphin Kick badge
It's funny how 20,000 Lums Under the Sea is on this list because for 80% of that world you're not even in water, so it's not much of a water world
One of my favorite water levels that I don't expect anyone to pick is the Burst Man stage in Mega Man 7, that level has a gimmick where after a miniboss the water turns purple and it pushes you upwards, and there is a section where that water rises up and down so you need to be careful about your positioning because you can't jump out of it and I personally find that really fun
