The first Nintendo Direct broadcasts of 2015 weren't short of details, and one reveal that was among the quirkiest we saw was around upcoming 3DS strategy game Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
The Intelligent Systems game was confirmed for amiibo support, which will utilise the New Nintendo 3DS and, in future, an accessory for standard models. The game won't be getting its own range, but will make use of current and upcoming Super Smash Bros. series toys for Marth, Ike, Robin and Lucina. As you can see in the trailer below, these are scanned into battles as playable characters, which will give an interesting spin on the steampunk setting.
Let's not also forget that Intelligent Systems had another new game confirmed today, with a new Fire Emblem on the way to 3DS.
Code Name S.T.E.A.M was also given a formal European release date of 15th May, which is over two months after the 13th March arrival in North America.
Are you planning to pick this up, and will you scan these amiibo into battle?

Can only imagine a steampunk Ike. And it's gonna be weird hearing Marth speak English
Yes! Marth can speak English! Finally! Now why couldn't he do that in Super Smash Bros?
@BigDaddysPizza - I'd chalk that up to tradition.
Lucina: "I fight for this world's future!"
Ike: "Oh yeah? WELL I FIGHT FOR MY FRIENDS!"
Seriously though, this is looking mighty interesting.
Honestly, this is what has me most excited for this game.
@Meloetta Yeah, I'm sort of the same way right now.
I really wanna know where or how the Fire Emblem characters vent off steam, and why they're steam-powered to begin with.
This only makes my wallet ache. Another 45 dollars to amiibo.
And still, Chrom will get his chance another day...
Robin's hood looks kinda weird...
2 months?! Sweet Jesus, Nintendo...
This is the only thing I care about this game.
Well, I already posted this in the other article but I guess I'll post it again here because it's more relevant.
Lucina is probably the one and only Amiibo I will be buying.
Assuming it will work with the new Fire Emblem game.
I don't know enough about that Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. game or if you can play the entire game with Lucina to know what the Lucina Amiibo even does in that game. If you have to actually have it on hand and use the Amiibo each and every single time you want to use Lucina in the game that will be utter trash.
This gives me even more reason to get Code Name S.T.E.A.M, though when will Nintendo announce the NFC portal for the 3DS/2DS systems? It's going to be a while before I buy a New 3DS, but I still want to experience amiibo features on my 3DS.
@DarkKirby Well I have news for you then
@DarkKirby: Nintendo's official amiibo web page says if they fall in battle, they have to be re-scanned. Not ideal, I agree.
And no mention of Fire Emblem X Shin Megami?
@BurningSonic This.
@DarkKirby So the rule is, if you don't want to have to carry your Lucina amiibo with you everywhere in order to play, then don't die.
And "utter trash"? You seem to feel very strongly about this, since you practically copied and pasted you comment from a different article. You do realize they didn't have to include this feature right?
Yay! Lucina and Robin with feet!
I like this but robin's face looks a bit too wide
@Dark-Luigi Now this!Nah
Looks good. I'm thinking this will be my second retail 3DS game, after FE:A.
My third one will be the New FE
@Tsuchinoko
You do realize they didn't have to include this feature right?
You act like the game or the Amiibos are free. You have to PAY for the game, and you have to PAY for the Amiibos. Asking for something you PAYED for to not be an unnecessarily large hassle to use is not unreasonable. This seems more like a measure to prevent Amiibo selling or sharing after you have used it yourself more than anything else.
Assassin's Creed Unity is bug ridden, but you shouldn't complain because Ubisoft didn't have to make the game at all, right?
Haha, nice little addition. Can't wait to play this come March.
We're getting this two months after the US? Wow, I thought those days were behind us - games tend to come out a week or two before or after their American counterparts. It's a shame as I'm really looking forward to this
Since the FE amiibos are the only ones I'm getting anyways, I'm really thrilled by this. From the looks of it, it's easily the best amiibo integration yet. Very excited for STEAM and the next FE!
Why am I the only one obsessing over the music?! It's so cool! As is the rest of the game, even if Marth's English voice is a tad disorienting!
Reggie yacking on for 15 minutes about N3DS stuff we already knew, then Bill comes on and says "Oh by the way, you can use the Fire Emblem amiibos in Codename STEAM," this is why I care about N3DS.
Though I'll wait for a price drop and/or a limited edition version for the new Fire Emblem.
Whoo ! My favourite part of the Nintendo Direct !
I am really impressed with what I have seen of Code Name Steam so far. It's most likely going to be a day one purchase for sure.
can someone explain how the Majora's Mask Preorder bonus works with this title?
Marth, Ike and Robin are........
Lucina is just prepared, but she is also ready I guess :3

Marth speaking english at last?
Mixed opinions about STEAM
@gage_wolf I noticed that too.
