You know I don't hate the style of the actual games, but this concept trailer looks so much better to me.

What the fans actually wanted

If pokemon games were made by a studio that actually cares about the franchise:

I'll admit I honestly have no problem with the chibi style since they just look like the DS sprites turned into 3D models and give me Persona Q vibes, but with that being said I'm way more interested in that Arceus game than I am D&P

TBH there's nothing to fix. To each their own, I guess. Cool concept though.

Personally I like the style of the remakes. I don't understand the "hate". I loved the Pokemon games not because they were 2D or 3D or chibi or whatever. These are remakes for christ's sake. IMO If you want at least the SwSh style then....lol play those games (loved SwSh too btw ). I would have complained as well if this was Gen9 but If you loved playing Diamond and Pearl back then there's no reason to complain too much.

I'm just happy to be able to play D&P again get my a** handed to me by Cynthia's Garchomp. Memories...

But again, to each their own.

This looks much better, and looks much more worth $60 than the 3DS-level game we're getting.

Sure, throw the entire game out the window and just make a whole different thing that only shares story and take another 3 years to make.

That gave me goosebumps! It could have been so much better if gamefreak had just put in a tiny bit of effort into the remakes instead of just giving them a spit polish.

I thought chibi style is when the characters are short and fat with huge heads, like World of Final Fantasy?

Gotta admit, that looks very good! I’m ok with the remakes we are getting but this concept pushes things much further, which is more what I was expecting from a game being remade on much newer, more powerful hardware.

Cool concept. I personally preffer what we got tho. I wanted a faithful remaster of the originals and not a weird skin for Sword and Shield.

Let's be honest here: GameFreak could never handle those graphics at a higher framerate than 15fps. I'm fine with what we got in the official one.

@Kimyonaakuma I’ve used Blender and it’s probably the hardest and least intuitive program I’ve ever used. I don’t think I can follow a few tutorials and make something even remotely close to this video. Just saying, it probably took some work!

Wow, even the combined Palkia/Dialga statue better represents the DS sprite than the actual game trailer. From the angle that they did it, it almost has the same optical illusion.

@Zyph Pokémon fans are never satisfied. The community is split between people who want it to be the same as it was 15 years ago and people who think it’s not new enough. At the end of the day they all end up buying it.

@Yegor I just feel the community is getting more toxic year after year. It was most apparent with the exclusion of the National Dex in SwSh in which btw I'm perfectly fine with. Plain and simple the sheer number of Pokemon paired with hundreds of movesets was getting impractical from a development, QA, and balancing standpoint and I can see that regardless of the financial standing of the company (the most common argument they make). Pokemon "fans" just simply turn a blind eye on these things.

The chibi style doesn’t really bother me but if this was how the games were gonna look Id see the games as having more worth. I’d almost promise to eat a shoe if they didn’t charge full price for the games, despite them being easy to make remakes.

I don;t want remakes and I don't just want an open world to explore. Pokemon has had the exact same mechanics for the last 25 years and at some point it has to evolve.

I would suggest passing the game off to Monolith and letting them do a Pokemon RPG in the style of Xenoblade Chronicles. Huge expanses with differing levelled Pokemon wandering about coupled with a battle system that inverts the template of XC2 whereby the trainer can be maneovred whilst the Pokemon auto-attacks a base move and others have cooldowns rather than PP. Swapping out Pokemon would be like swapping blades with a limit on fast swapping but huge 'party moves' once a gauge is full.

I'd want a world like Mira from XCX where you can eventually ride your larger pokemon around to access unreachable areas like the skells.

Raid battles would make for cool online co-op scenarios and Gym battles would be more of a Dojo-style experience where you have to learn new things rather than straightforward fighting.

Trainer-vs-trainer battles would be limited to online and boss characters rather than littering the environment to bring the core ethos back to levelling and catching.

Rather than different towns and villages the player would have a city that acted as a central hub area.

@Miu I can see and respect that. Personally when it comes to remakes variety is good. Let the studio doing it spread their wings. Of course that also comes with the usual worry of it being bad but since they're essentially remakes I don't mind so much.

Gotta say, i'm apparently one of the few people who like the look of the remakes....but this looks amazing.

This is one of the most used complaint in the community and I certainly get this and I agree. But when they do evolve some mechanics people still complain.

But nobody seems to realize (same with the anime why Ash is always underpowered every titular season) is that the games cater NOT to just Pokemon "veterans" but to young children and people who are sinking their toes into the series for the first time. Your suggestion is, if we are to put it into a ratings perspective, Teens and above. You essentially alienated potential players especially people who are not easily drawn to complex RPG mechanics and elements. Unless we "old" players are too greedy and entitled that we just don't care about those younger/newer/casual gamers.

@Isaix I'd disagree I've played Diamond and Pearl and I can't even what is really proposed in this trailer beyond what the characters will look like.

Which city is it supposed to be in this trailer? The camera shots are so static in it that you can't really tell what a city looks like, how big the routes are or whether they're open.

It's a good effort, but it doesn't really seem like it puts forward a viable alternative.

I wish the remakes were better... but uh, for this type of game we have Legends Arceus...This still looks cool though!

Meh, that would be cool but Im not sweating it. They wanted to be faithful to the OG DS games and they have done a good job with that so far. Maybe it would have settled better if they used the same graphical style as the Let's Go games but oh well. Now Pokemon Legends Arceus will probably be your fix if you want a game like that fan trailer

This is impressive, but I'd rather not have 2 identically styled games set in Sinnoh just in different time periods one after the other.

I like the Chibi remakes, they're faithful to the original, different and interesting. They could do with a little more polish sure, but they have time.

@RadioHedgeFund I agree, and because I share a similar mindset, I've already found a game like that! It's not out yet, but waiting until the end of the year isn't too bad. It's called Skyclimbers, and it comes out in December.

@RadioHedgeFund A game that is centered around evolution as a core mechanic DOES need to evolve, I agree! Haven't played a Pokemon since the GBA releases because whenever I try one of the others I can't believe how exactly they stay to the script of those old games. Same story, different names. Same boring battle system. Desperately needs some fresh eyes.

Not all Pokémon fans want a big open world Pokémon game!

TPCi knows it's fan base is varied in what they want/like and it's great to see they are trying to cater for them all with different styles of main series games.

But on a more positive note the work put into this is incredible this person is extremely talented.

@Marxally To bad this won't be faithful lol. They'll toss out pretty much all of the improvements from Platinum + make the Battle Area emptier than it even was in DP since "Kids don't care about the post-game because it's too difficult".

It'll be a shallow echo of the originals most likely. Which is enough to satisfy 95% of the fanbase, so good on them.

@Zyph yes they change things but they're not very good at fixing issues people have with the games. Look at how long it took them to get rid of HMs, as a kid playing the originals I thought they needed to go because them taking up move slots hurt the game. There's no reason that a game like that would have to be super complex and difficult to learn and play.

Everyone who hates the chibi is boring. When we got a more realistic design in SWSH it looked like crap bc GameFreak can’t make good games... they can only handle baby chibi style. So just be happy with what we got and move on!

Tbh this looks bad too. Do fans just want Pokémon games to look barely above the minimum graphical requirement? How come no other 3D Pokémon rpg looks as clean and polished as let’s go? Sw/sh came out a year later, and looked like 10 years older than let’s go

Personally, while I'm more interested in the upcoming Breath of the Pokemon, I like the idea of traditional top-down games as well. My bigger problem is Pokemon is still a 4-move battle system and there's only so many games you can tolerate that play style. Cranking them out annually "because they must" even if it's remakes just kind of spoils the joy of new releases. I know people who go deep into breeding find a lot of depth, but people that really just play campaigns, the gameplay gets so stale after so many successive entries.

@ok1 I mean monolith soft helped shape some of Nintendo’s best games, there’s literally no reason to think they wouldn’t do something great with Pokémon.

But honestly the problem is that if they'd chosen that kind of style... not only would the game not be out until 2023 or later but also there would likely be so much changes to the layout/etc of the original game (and possibly so many corners that would need to be cut in terms of elements of the original game) that they might as well have made a brand new game altogether instead of a remake.

As that's a thing with the current form, it allows for a faithful/accurate recreation of the original game's layout including stuff like the metroidvania-like progression that used to be more prevalent in older titles using the Cut/Push/Etc moves.

The fact they're going with a gridlike overworld likely has to do with them wishing to make sure it's a more "traditional" experience so while I see stuff like Fairy types continuing to be a thing I suspect we won't be seeing mega-evolution/z-moves or even gigantamax this time around to keep to the traditional "just your pokemons, no fancy gimmicks" formula of gen 1-5 that's been kind of missing in action since Gen6.

Like... at the end of the day there is very much a market for that. Both from lots of veterans tired of games whose world seem to keep sacrificing depth(espeically all the alternate and optional paths/areas/etc which approach we saw reach it's apex of barebonedness come Sword/Shield even if I enjoyed the title in generA) the more the graphics increase in the franchise and the more gimmicks it introduced.

Like. Sure, that trailer looks cool. But as they say "now do the entire game and we'll speak".
And that's the other thing, Platinum was by most definition NOT a small or short pokemon game by franchise standards.

Mind you, this is a cool visual style and I wouldn't have minded it but I also know why , especially for a "remake" rather than brand new game, this isn't the style we're getting. When we reach remaking stuff like Gen6 and up I think is when we'll start being able to talk of using that style more commonly in remakes.

My biggest problem with the direction of the remakes is not the "chibi" (though I don't like that either), but rather an unsettling change in remake philosophy: moving from "reimagine the past generation as if it was made in the current generation" to "just copy-paste the past game with some better graphics for the nostalgia cash-in"

@Zyph This is a valid arguement. However my 7 year-old son has managed to grasp the mechanics of Xenoblade 1 pretty easily so I don't think it would be too hard to change the battle system but maintain a level of accessibility to proceedings.

Completing the gyms could gradually add new mechanics so players do not get overwhelmed by everything at first eg the 2nd gym sensei takes you through a series of lessons designed to highlight how using 'blue' moves does more damage from the rear. You then have to demonstrate this in a fight to earn your badge.

For a "nostalgia remake" I find the "Pokemon let's go" style perfect - neither this fan concept nor the stuff from the direct.

The remakes are not being made by Game Freak. They are being made by the people who made Pokemon Home: ILCA.

So complaining about Game Freak in regards to the game's Chibi artstyle is utterly pointless and completely off base cause they don't have their hands in it with the exception of publishing it alongside Nintendo and The Pokemon Company

See, my problem boils down to the inconsistency. Back with X/Y and ORAS, the ORAS games had the exact same graphics as X/Y, and built upon RSE. But from what we've seen and what had been said, it sounds like we're getting DPP in chibi. I don't want to play the exact same game, I want to relive my childhood in a unique way. So instead of buying chibi DPP, I'll just wait for Legends Arceus.

Yup, this certainly would be a lot more appealing. Issue is this would never happen, at least not anytime soon. Sword and Shield had nearly top-down camera locked views for all of the routes and most of the towns with some minor exceptions. The only time the camera was controllable and more dynamic was in the wild area, and visuals suffered greatly because of that. The DLC improved the visuals a bit, I’ll admit.

Not even Legends looks this good. Legends might not have many towns and could just be all open fields for all we know.

This prototype is definitely impressive and I do wish we got this... but I guess I just have lower expectations with Game Freak and Pokémon games as a whole.

The mainline games really need more development time and help from larger, more capable studios for us to get games like what this mock-up shows us. Here’s hoping that happens eventually but as it is, I’m still looking forward to the remakes.

Does that make me part of the problem? I suppose so. It’s definitely a weird grey area for most people and a reason there were so many arguments when Sword and Shield were in pre-release.

@Judal27 Most of Genius Sorority who made Colosseum and XD had since been hired on at GameFreak.

Considering Colosseum was basically a handful of tiny towns, no real routes and dungeons with zero interactivity. X/Y were already a step up in terms of 3D games.

I love the style the Pokémon company is actually going with for the remakes. For the remakes, I think it’s important to stay mechanically true to the original. Maintaining the grid based movement system is a huge part of that.

It seems the remakes are part of the mega evolution universe, so as long as they add them we’ll be in good shape.

I’m hoping Nintendo continues its Let’s Go series. This concept would be perfect for that.

I also want to point out there is a large portion of fans who don't hate the chibi art-style as much as believe that the production value looks incredibly lacking in the official trailer shown.

You can stay true to the core game, which I think is even necessary for any remake, while still promoting some kind of visual fidelity that won't prompt a backlash. Honestly, that's the most disappointing part; you already are limited in this linear top down view and this is no open world feat, so everything we can actually see and interact with should look amazing.

@Dr_Lugae lmao they didn't even have traditional catching mechanics. They're spin offs. Although pokemon games at that time still had more heart put into it than they do now. The gamecube games were a glimpse at what it would actually be like to have fully realized 3d pokemon game. I'd imagine if they were put to work on a mainline game, it'd be something else. But i didn't know about the staff movement. What a waste, shame.

And iirc their dungeons definitely had interactivity on the same level as mainline games. Baby puzzles like figuring out which switch opens what. Not only that the towns still had secrets hidden around them.

I don't need or want my Pokemon to become SMT, it was designed explicitly to be a simpler SMT, after all, but having to at least think through battles would be a huge help. B&W is the last time you really had to do that. Although I think I remember some battles going a bit overboard on difficulty there (I think.)

I truly hate repeating this over and over again every single time, but the best thing anyone can do if they truly want big changes in Pokemon is to stop buying them. It is the easiest and simplest way that will actually cause change.

Complaining on the internet isn't going to change anything when you go out and buy the final product regardless.

All they really see is they put in X amount of money and made Y product and got Z amount of profits. And as long as that profit margin is good they have zero incentive to change.

Regardless I think the remakes are faithful to the original, I most likely won't purchase this. I am, however, extremely interested in Pokemon Legends.

The person who made it did good work but I love the look of the actual games that are coming.

Diamond and Pear are the last Pokemon games I played before X&Y, they just made me tap out on the classic style games.

As such I don't have much interest in the Chibi remake, I was hoping it was going to be like Sword and Sheild but hey.

While it looks really cool, I don't believe Game Freak is able to make a game looking this good. So I guess I'd rather have a good safe remake than a poor ambitious one. We're still getting the Legends game set in old Sinnoh, so that's pretty good, too.

Honestly, I don’t like how this looks. For one, it’s super unrealistic that this would even run on switch. Another thing too is that it’s just an asset flip, with towns in this trailer not even being recognizable. Another thing is that the animation is really stiff, even for a fanmade cinematic.

I don’t think that the diamond and pearl remakes we’re getting need to be fixed honestly. Could they look better? Absolutely. But they don’t need fixing. The style right now is fine, but could use a bit more touch ups with shading, added details, and blur effects.

Another thing: the Palkia and Dialga flying in the air looks really bad in this.

The animations look terrible.

If they'd make a Sword / Shield looking remake, they wouldn't be able to make Pokémon Legends as well.

Looks pretty good for a fan trailer though the animations look kind of wonky. Also, please no to Megas being in the remake

I can appreciate what one person was able to do, but I don’t think it looks good and however you feel about the chibi, the actual battles we saw from the BDSP look incredible, and this misses the mark.

@tanaka2687 I dont know if I would say asking for a modern remake of a game they are selling us for 60 dollars is unrealistic. Maybe for nintendo drones that buy everything they sell despite poor quality is unrealistic. For the rest of the gaming community this was pretty terrible and underwhelming

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are top-down grid based games. If that's not what you like, of course that's fine. But if you don't like top-down grid based games, you don't like Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and the enthusiasm you had for a remake was misplaced.

@Heavyarms55 I used to like the Pokemon fanbase, but everything just hit the fan once the games moved to switch. It's like nothing pleases anyone anymore, even if you did give them exactly what they wanted.

And then with stuff like this, it would come out five years from now, be riddled with severe performance issues and likely have to change areas to fit the new style and inevitably people would complain they did so

@gloom Game Freak aren't even making the remakes. And Sword and Shield wasn't bad because of the art style. It was bad (debatably) because of the poor graphics, especially compared to other Switch games.

@VoidofLight TBF, I think that's because the Switch games kind of stepped back in quality from the 3DS games temporarily. B&W was the pinnacle of the OG design. X&Y was rough but was a cool new direction. Pokemon S&M was an evolution on that. Let's Go, even though it was clearly a placeholder while they worked on their systems, was charming, but it rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. SnS while fun, I get the impression it was also a placeholder and R&D project for what is to become Legends. I think they've been working on a "real console Pokemon" ever since Switch turned out to not be a failure (which they thought it was going to be) and they've needed a long time to have games to release while they work on the "real" evolution of the series. It's rubbed people the wrong way combined with GF doing what they feel they need to for the target kid market (right or wrong). Now, if Legends doesn't please, then it's definitely time to just move on for anyone not happy. But I do think they've been stalling with these games for Breath of the Pokemon.

If I'm being honest, this looks waaaaay too good to be on switch. Graphically speaking. It looks like legends: arceus. If we got this game, we would have gotten it in April 2022

Honestly, I've been slowly losing interest in these games since X and Y, mainly due to the gameplay and post-game aspects, as well as the games getting more and more like straight forward hallways. Sword and Shield to me was a disappointment, not because of the graphics, but moreso the content that the games contained. I feel like BDSP were made more out of obligation, while gamefreak really wanted to work on the open world Sinnoh game. They probably handed them over to ILLCA as a failsafe in the case that their gamble on Legends didn't pay off, due to how different the game seems to be. Not to mention how much backlash would have been caused if they didn't reveal proper Sinnoh Remakes as well.

Once again FANS DO WHAT NINTENDONT. this is exactly how it should be created. I can't believe Nintendo offed it to some cheap mobile bs company ugh. Just watching this trailer got me sooooo hyped!! So sad it's not the real thing. :/. Easily insta buy. The real ones however ehhh likely won't. Like 5% might.

Id actually argue it started with the hate of gen 5 and has become progressively worse with each new pokemon game that is released. The vocal minority of pokemon fans cannot be pleased,no matter what you do.

@Tharsman they could easily rework the Sword and Sheield Engine to accomodate Diamond and Pearl with changes to the maps, models and textures, then rework the story. Shouldn't take 3 years for that. I don't mind the current visuals, but I wouldn't consider changing the art style and perspective to being something entirely different from the originals. Besides a remake is not a remaster, as has been seen by Final Fantasy 7.

@weisske Oh yeah, I agree actually. Gen 5 started the backlash, and it's slowly been climbing up since then. I feel like the backlash to gen 5 is partially the reason why pokemon hasn't done anything innovative for so long. Seems like Legends isn't going to be safe from that backlash however, since a certain youtube channel that perpetuated the hatred for Gen 5 is now bashing on Legends based on the first trailer.

@RchUncleSkeleton Final Fantasy 7's remake ruined expectations and the definition of what a remake really means. FF7's remake isn't a remake. It's a Retelling of Final Fantasy 7, with an entirely different story. A remake is taking a game and redoing the graphics from the ground up, in a brand new engine that the original game wasn't made in. A remake would be something like Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time 3D, or Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. A remaster is taking a game and fixing up the textures, lighting, as well as some models. Some remasters can seem like remakes, such as Xenoblade Definitive Edition, while others can just be texture facelifts like Twilight Princess HD.

Well, I believe working in cutscenes is far easier than developing an entire game.

I think this is what all of us wanted it to be. And now I can never unsee it. What could have been... WHYYYYYYY 😭😭😭

I just think that it's weird that the Gen IV remakes aren't Gen VII games.

@Devlind Yeah, when they're not limited by having to have it work with gameplay you can have cutscenes that are massively beyond anything the rest of the game could have.

It's just unreasonable to expect that level of animation/detail alongside real gameplay.

For the life of me I still can't comprehend why Game Freak, when finally outsourcing a full game to an outsider dev team, chooses a mobile phone studio.

Besides, I've been completely spoiled by Dragon Quest XIS. Even if Square Enix never does it again, the fact that I know now that it is somehow possible to walk into a Pokemon Center and switch between a splendid 3D environment and retro 2D pixel art means that I will always want both.

If you don't like the chib-style characters, fine, but you can't ruin the map like that in a faithful remake! The games need to keep the same 2.5D grid structure as the originals!

Besides, the cut scenes in the actual games will probably look similarly impressive as to what this video shows.

@RadioHedgeFund No, most of us do not want that! Pokémon's core mechanics have remained the same all these years, because that is what we always want in the main series games! Without those core mechanics in place, Pokémon would just not be Pokémon anymore!

@RadioHedgeFund I agree with the monolith softwre doing a pokemon game, the overwolrd of xenoblade is amazing. But changing the battle system would be a huge drawback. Pokemon's battle system is the best thing of it.

@BulbasaurusRex How would remaking it in this style ruin the map? It would still have the same locations and structure, it would just look a lot grander (as a remake should, take a look at Final Fantasy 7 remake). As for grid structure, hell even ORAS got rid of grid based movement.

@Zyph I agree though this concept looks amazing im ok with the art style choice as i have missed the top down style. My only concern is there won't be new content/megas included. I dont really wanna pay full price for the exact same game I have on my DS with no new content.

@VoidofLight Then what do you call Resident Evil Remakes? Just because a remake changes from the original game doesn't mean it's not a remake. The word remake is literally defined as "to make different in some way". Ever seen Scarface, Gone in 60 Seconds, Planet of the Apes or The Wicker Man? You're telling me those aren't remakes becasue they changed the story or some characters?

@Zyph same I'm excited to dive back into my personal favorite gen! I just got to crasher wake on my first gen 4 nuzlocke the day it was announced so I better hurry so I'm not sick of the game when it comes out lol. I think I might like the og look better but it's more convienent on switch and I like how they made it faithful.

@Zyph the art style is terrible. Why do people spend 60 dollars on an ugly mobile game from 2010? It's scam.

People will buy them anyways. That's why there is no initiative to actually put effort into pokemon games. It's like selling a sports game, people just eat it up.

I don't particularly enjoy the weird low-contrast (high exposure?) monochromatic-esque style in the trailer. I think it would cause me eye strain with extended gameplay.

Seeing a lot of people say "this is what the fans really want", you people should honestly not speak for others.

For all I care the overworld looked like pokemon black and white while the battles were in the style of swsh.

A company has no obligation to do exactly what fans want - people don't seem to understand that. This reminds me of the way people reacted to Wind Waker art style and the sense of entitlement they had that a game should look a particular way.

It's a remake - not a brand new game. Honestly it's not that different from Links Awakening keeping the old style for the remake. Should people have expected a grand BOTW reimagine -no?

The Pokemon series certainly needs a change but often fans don't know what they want or need. Shigeru Miyamoto said something along those lines once - if I ask gamers to design my game they'll just make those existing game elements bigger or faster - they won't come up with anything new.

And here we are debating over a Pokemon remake trailer in an art style that has already been done. We want to look forward but often fans are only capable of looking back....

@Theober555 FF7R took like 7 years for them to make 1/9th of the story and adapt Midgar from pre-rendered backdrops to a full 3D environment.

DP had a lot more routes than Sw/Sh so adapting from tilebased to the Sw/Sh handcrafted map style would be a serious undertaking. Especially for a team that worked on neither.

I'm looking forward to it, can't wait! The salty tears of these ridiculous fans sustains me.

Like... "Cool trailer but... try to make the entire game now".
Especially that Diamond/Pearl/Platinum were among the largest game of the franchise afaik... I don't see a remake being done in the style of that trailer without SOMETHING being cut AND likely only releasing many years later. Like... potentially "the Switch almost ending it's lifespan and oh there's still cut content anyway". And even more cut out if it released this year somehow.

Like I'm not saying not to expect cut content from the upcoming remake. But I can bet you it'd be worst if that style had been used, possibly to the level of entire routes gone or drastically shortened.

This is where the current remake's chibi style has my appreciation because when one look past the chibi characters everyone is ranting about... you'll notice the overhead overworld is basically 1:1 a recreation of the original tileset-based maps. Which to mean feels that we should expect a LOT of the original Diamond and Pearl to remain in the upcoming remake.

And certainly a lot more than if they'd gone for the visual style of this fan trailer.

@Marxally Honestly... people lose too much time ranting about the chibi character it's like they fail to notice how much the overworld seem to be a 1:1 recreation of the original game.

This is important to me because I've always heard of the Gen 4 games(Platinum in particular) described as some of the largest of the franchise. And that's the other thing: one of the thing a lot of people complained about the Gen8 titles is how small the world was and thus just how much of the "exploration" featured in original titles seemed to be gone.

Meanwhile, seeing an attempted to extremely faithfully recreate the layout of the gen4 titles in these remakes gives me serious hope that we're going to keep that much more of the original "exploring the map, finding secrets and alternate routes and whatnot" will remain in these remakes. Like, out of everything this is what I missed the most in Sword&Shield even if I "liked" the gen8 games, so seeing a remake that seem to strive to remain accurately faithful to it's original rather than overhaul graphics to modern level(and likely have to release later AND cut content anyway) gives me hope.

Especially as I'm dealing with wrist injuries lately(unrelated to gaming; I was a ***** when trying to do exercise and didn't take precautions) so with how much of my game library is real-time full action games or even 3D camera that require both hands on the controller to play easily.... an overhead turn-based games is actually likely gonna be a godsend for me since even without re: that injury I still have carpal tunnels that can often be sensitive if I'm not careful(since I do a lot of artwork as part of my income so my hands/wrists, especially my primary hand, are often taxed enough as it is).

Like... I've begun to enjoy revisiting Dragon Quest 11S through it's 2D mode because I don't have to worry about the camera joystick and (thanks to ZL being used to confirm actions) I can outright play the game using only my offhand while resting my primary hand or (on good/great days) even working on new art at the same time and using the game as some kind of background noise generator(which oddly helps my production since it keeps me occupied enough to not get distracted by social medias/etc, ADHD/etc is a pain tbh, but not enough occupied that I find myself unable to draw/etc).

@Yorumi I didn't mention anything about 'blindly worshipping' the corporation - so I don't know where this is coming from. But you're right - it is a transactional process and the consumer does have to want and be excited by the product. My point was that consumers are not the best necessarily the best innovators and may not know what they want until it's created. Sometimes their focus (as is evident in this video) is rather than truly innovate, it's to copy something done previously and just polish it up. In this case - it's basically a polished version of Sword/Shield.

But also, I think there is something to be said about fan expectations as well. This is a remake, not a new full Pokemon game, so the idea of having these kind of graphics and new mechanics is fine - but would take years to develop. That is not realistic. That will probably come with one of the new mainline entries instead. If you don't like it - then you don't have to buy it.

@a1904 I've played enough GameFreak games to notice patterns, yes.

The art style of the remakes is fine. I'm underwhelmed by the return of the grid-based map and movement, not how the game looks. As WitchyUndead said, if ShiningPearl and BrilliantDiamond are true, faithful 1:1 remakes, then they are inconsistent with Pokemon remake versions up to this point. Remakes recreate their base games, yes, but they also include some (not all) elements of those games' expansions and revisions. Every remake so far has also included its own new, unique upgrade or game element, like FRLG's Sevii Islands, HGSS's Pokemon walking, and ORAS's flying on mega Latis, just to name a small few.

If BDSP truly are nothing more than a graphical update, I will be disappointed. Not because I dislike the graphics (I don't), but because they would be missing out on so much more that we look to remakes for. Hopefully as the year progresses, we will hear news of how these remakes expand upon the original Diamond and Pearl.

I think the chibi art style is fine and good, especially since they outsourced the remakes so that they could focus on Legends: Arceus.

I think I MIGHT have been disappointed if Legends wasn't coming and the chibi-style, low-key remakes were all that were coming, but they're not, and Legends shows that Game Freak aren't afraid to stride toward the future but are willing to build on the Wild Area with a Breath of the Wild style open world adventure.

The chibi art style is cute. But the overall graphics quality is not OK. It looks 3DS level not Switch level.

The hilarious thing is people praising the trailer while saying "GF would never do something like this", when they actually did. lol The trailer takes assets GF made. The town no one recognizes? That's literally Wyndon from SwSh.

Also, why are people comparing Pokemon to games that have a lot less models etc. than Pokemon? Even DQ doesn't compare, because you do nothing with the monsters other than riding some in DQXIS, they don't learn moves etc.
And if you're talking about changing the gameplay then you should keep in mind that Pokemon has a competitive scene that could and likely would get alienated.
