One thing you can never have too much of, arguably, is cute robots. Auroch Digital certainly hopes that's the case with its most recent game announcement, confirming that The Colonists is populating the Switch eShop on 4th May.
This has actually been out on Steam since October 2018 and has been pretty well received, so that bodes well. It's a city-builder so you'll have to manage resources, carry out research, expand and improve your colony and more besides.
It'll have a sandbox mode, or you can tackle a 14 level Campaign in which you can complete challenges peacefully or through military might. These robots look a bit too cute for fighting, but clearly they have it in them.
Check out the trailer below for a flavour of what it'll be like.
It looks rather charming; is this one for the wishlist?

Is this Wall-E meets Sim City ?
The title made me think it'd be some cliche "dark game with cute characters" fare but nope. Just a poor title choice.
@Anti-Matter *meets Anno/Settlers (as they say themselves). And i crave a game like that on Switch!
Its one of those day were a bunch of games get shown of on the switch, I hope there's more.
Seems like a good relaxing game, can definitely see myself grabbing this at some point
Looks a lot like Kingdoms and Castles on Steam. I like it.
Looks a little rough around the edges, but cute. Will keep an eye on this one.
@Noid what about the title made you think it would be a dark game?
I like the look of this, it looks a bit more chill than Civ etc. I couldn't help think , "Do I really care how the robots feel about their new home?" Does that make sense. It's a game and we all suspend our belief when playing games but that's easier when the characters are cute like AC.
This genre is oddly thin on the ground on the Switch. If it gets half-decent reviews I'll probably give it a shot.
This looks like it took a lot of inspiration from Grow Home, which isn't a bad thing. Too bad the trailer wasn't given adequate time.
Looks cute! Keeping an eye on this one.
The idea of this got my interest, but I found that trailer super bland, and the robot character design and general lack of life and colour in the game did nothing for me.
My whole family already makes "Colonizer" comments every time they see me playing Civilization. I'm not sure buying a game actually called "the Colonists" would be a good idea for me.
/jk, I would probably buy it anyway if my backlog wasn't starting to be an embarassment. This looks pretty cute and I do love a good city builder. But I have so many games to get through already, it's going to be lowest priority.
Is Thomas Whitehead back on the NL staff??
@Bizaster Good tune to have stuck in your head though
@Andy_Witmyer Indeed, there's a news post from last week with the details, happy to be back writing silly taglines and the occasional informative (hopefully) feature. It's been good fun over the past week or so - https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/03/site_news_after_our_best_year_yet_things_are_changing_here_at_nintendo_life
@ThomasBW84 That's awesome! The one week where I wasn't looking at NL daily and I missed something as great as your return. This place was never quite the same without you! Welcome back!
