It would have been considered at length between Nintendo and third parties.
Majority of third parties likely said "no chance we are paying so much for proprietary Switch 2 carts so come up with a solution" and this is that solution.
That still means third parties having to pay for a cart to fit the full game on which compared to discs is prohibitively expensive. So they still won't do it.
Game Key Cards was Nintendo's way round this.
Otherwise you get download codes in a box with no re-sellability or digital only release.
Cyberpunk is very much going to be exception to the rule.
Well looks like they are going this route anyway so tough luck I guess.
And if all the third parties chose to put the full games on carts (which they never actually are as what games aren't patched these days?) then you can be sure that cost will be added to the price of the physical release. And then it will be more moaning about price.
The console market has changed a lot in such a short space of time.
It is why I love that Nintendo still do the console stuff traditionally i.e. release hardware and offer quality first party titles to encourage you to buy their platform.
Even Sony seem to have forgotten that chasing the live service trend.
Xbox as a console platform is barely clinging on. But Nintendo will reap the benefits as Xbox games will likely jump to Switch 2.
No probs. As for the other concerns you raised. Don't waste your time worrying about things you have no control over.
If you think a game or srrvice is too expensive don't pay the money. But worrying about stuff like ongoing legal battles and patents etc? Forget that stuff.
Is that the US where Switch 2 just had a record launch beating PS4 by a good half a million? And where the Switch 2 and Switch 1 were the 1st and 3rd best selling systems in June 25 respectively?
Well basically Mario Kart World is going to match near what the Switch 2 sells every week as it is part of the Switch 2 bundle so going to be hard for any game to top it for a while.
Switch 2 only is a bit odd. Probably just trying to get that "new console exclusive" sales before arriving on every other platform known to man in 6 months.

Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart World Takes The Lead While Cronos Sees Weak Sales On Switch 2
@Suketoudara
That is kind of my point. You can create a narrative from anything.
The support for the game on Switch 2 still brought it up to 7th in the charts.
Who knows how much of a factor the games' being a game key card actually is.
I can't even find a copy of the UK version of Cronos on Amazon UK for example. I'd say that impacts sales.
Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart World Takes The Lead While Cronos Sees Weak Sales On Switch 2
@Smithicus
Counterpoint, the hype has been well warranted.
Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart World Takes The Lead While Cronos Sees Weak Sales On Switch 2
"Game-Key Card format won't be doing Switch 2 sales any favours"
On the other hand 75% of SW Outlaws were on Switch 2 which shows it is not an issue for the vast majority.
Pretty easy to create a narrative.
Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart World Takes The Lead While Cronos Sees Weak Sales On Switch 2
@johnedwin
You do realise Outlaws is a Game Key Card right?
There was a whole article on it and everything.

Re: Ubisoft Employee Explains Why Star Wars Outlaws Is A Game-Key Card
@dew12333
Since Xbox One and PS4, games have had to be loaded onto the hard drives because the read speed of the disc drive was too slow.
Looks like Nintendo is actually just catching up to it.

I'm so happy I went all digital over 10 years ago. Don't have to deal with all this drama.

Get it sorted.

Aye I saw that but it is just the PS1 versions. Would like a proper HD remaster with improved FMV quality etc.
If it doesn't get announced for the 30th anniversary then I'll bite the bullet on those versions.

I want the OG RE2.

27% share for a new console is not bad at all.
Re: Could This Mysterious Super Mario 40th Anniversary X Account Be Legit?

Yeah I have yet to win a Tetris 99 or F-Zero 99 match but I won at Mario 35 quite often.
It just got crazy at the end of each run and was so much fun!
Hoping for a Mario 40 variant.
Re: Could This Mysterious Super Mario 40th Anniversary X Account Be Legit?
Just give me the Mario 35 game again.

Nintendo apparently requests any videos on the Directs are a proper representation of the games running on Switch. And rightly so.

To me this is confirmation of a proper Nintendo Direct next week. To confirm release dates for all the games in attendance that don't have one yet.

Re: Yooka-Replaylee Is Now "Content Complete"
Unfortunately I can't see this doing well and being very bad for Playtonic.
Bottom line is their third game being a remaster of their first game is simply not very clever.
I hope to be proven wrong and it is a massive success for them but just can't see it.
Re: Review: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound (Switch) - A Gorgeous & Gory Return To The Series' 2D Roots
A 2D game that can't even hold a steady 30fps should not be getting an 8.
Re: Rumour: Three Games Were Pulled From Nintendo's Direct Partner Showcase, According To Veteran Games Journalist
Silksong will be saved for a proper Direct.
Re: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound Will "Average" 30fps On Switch
Unacceptable for a 2d game.
Re: PSA: You Can Now Remap Super NES Controls With Nintendo Switch Online
Just being able to put all the L and R functions on ZL and ZR will be great without having to go into system wide control mapping.
Work wonders with Killer Instinct as well!
Now how about getting rid of those awful borders for standard black ones?

It's one of the most popular games of all time. Probably still be selling when Switch 3 comes out.

Impressive performance. Based on this very interested to see how the next NBA2K and Fifa (it's still Fifa to me dammit!) games play.
Re: Japanese Charts: Donkey Kong Bananza Sells A Bunch, But Can't Beat Mario Kart
@johnedwin
Are you being deliberately dense?
Mario Kart World is sold in a Switch 2 bundle that makes up the vast majority of Switch 2 sales.
If Switch 2 sells 500 thousand units then so does MKW.
