Re: Best Donkey Kong Games Of All Time

Rentaro

@Paulo awesome, thanks for replying with those cool memories and suggestions with the G&W Gallery releases - I still have my original G&W Parachute LCD as well. Thankfully those LR44 batteries are still around!

Regarding Nintendo's LCD games, I got to play Oil Panic and Greenhouse that were owned by other kids, and I loved them as well.

Also played other LCD games as well - I vividly remember the 'budget' Mini Arcade games like Sea Ranger, Plane and Tank Battle, and Highway. Those were lots of fun.

I also still have my original Cresta Pac-Man LCD game, with the little red joystick on the right. As a kid I decorated the bottom of the thing with all kinds of tiny stickers - spelling 'Pac-Man' with letters and adding some fruit stickers for additional coolness.

I'm keeping my old LCD games ''running' 24/7, replacing the batteries each year or so, and my Pac-Man game still plays its relatively short daily alarm song like it always has. Good times.

@Paulo the dual-screen DK games were awesome, weren't they?

I had (and still have) the original 'orange' one myself. LCD handheld games were hot in my eighties. We played them together and temporarily swapped out our games with other kids to fully enjoy all of them.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - Absolutely Smashing, But Can It Beat Mario Odyssey?

Rentaro

@USWITCH64 Yeah, I'm not getting the hate on the new Kart either. I've been playing the game since launch and I'm still in love with it. To each their own I guess.

Regarding DKB, the nonsense about needing a totally fixed and totally stable 60fps on DKB is ridiculous, imho. If you need that kind of stuff to have an enjoyable experience, perhaps consider 'upgrading' from Nintendo, or play less-demanding games.

Re: Feature: Every Switch 2 Launch Game, Ranked

Rentaro

My list of 6 that I'm playing so far:

1 Mario Kart World (zany fun, a true joy)
2 Fantasy Life (I totally underestimated its awesomeness)
3 Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma (my favourite RF game is RF4 Special, but this one is loads of fun so far)
4 Breath of the Wild (it's like driving in an old car that has just been given a huge overhaul - it's absolutely fantastic to re-explore Hyrule like this)
5 Cyberpunk (still can't believe it's running so well - can we have the new Witcher next year as well?)
6 World Tour (worth the $10 if you're a nerd like me)

Re: Dbrand Admits Its Joy-Con Detachment Response Was "Spectacularly Terrible"

Rentaro

@basednrd Understood - thanks for the reply!

I just cannot understand their 'be edgy, snarky, and sweary towards customers' outings and businessmodel. How could they presume this is actually boosting their sales? I'd be totally happy condering and buying Dbrand accessories if they were coming from a 'generally nice and decent' company.

With all this, I'm just getting a "be edgy and snarky, or stay away" vibe. It's just how this feels for me. shrugs

Re: Gorgeous 'Trails In The Sky' Remake Gets September Release Date

Rentaro

I'm incredibly looking forward to be playing my very first Sky game starting with this newly crafted installment.

I won't be grabbing it unless there's a proper (standard / simple) physical Switch 2 version though. Seeing that gameplay footage I think I'm going to love that new Nintendo hardware a lot.

If there is no physical Switch 2 version I'll simply be continuing my vast Xenoblade Chronicles adventures, probably.

Re: Poll: Did You Get A Switch 2 Purchase Invite From Nintendo Yet? (Europe)

Rentaro

I'm seriously disappointed in the way "sharing gameplay data" is needed to get that invitation. I guess me not sharing disqualifies me, though I meet all of the other criteria.

Thankfully I am settled with a preorder elsewhere, but I'd have prefered to have ordered it from Nintendo if I was given that chance.

Good luck everyone. Good times ahead.

Re: Minecraft Is Getting A Graphics Upgrade

Rentaro

Looks great and welcome (especially since it's optional) - it would definitely trigger performance issues on the OG Switch, but with the Switch 2 those problems will probably be solved.

For me Minecraft has always been a really fun experience, so I am looking forward to its further development.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Walkthrough

@Kraven I'm also beyond hyped at this point - enjoy! It's such an excellent franchise.

I lost track of time and drove home from work too late today. Totally missed my chance to pick up my copy which was delivered at my post office pickup point. Oy.

I was looking forward to start my journey with this particular Xenoblade game for the very first time this evening. But thankfully the weekend is near. I'll have pretty much zero knowledge of X's story and will definitely take my sweet time to experience all of it.

Thanks for the tips NL and I'm excited to get started.

Re: Jeff Minter's 'I, Robot' Reimagining Is A Blast From The Past This April

Rentaro

I have to admit I haven't really played a lot of Minter games in the last decade, but back in the eighties I played and loved a good share of his classics on my C64. I have fond memories of playing Mutant Camels after loving Empire Strikes Back on my first 'proper' game console - the Atari 2600.

I love retro shmup-like arcade games (and pinball) and I went to Play Expo in Manchester UK two times, about a decade ago. During my last visit I met an online friend from the UK who held an R-Type record (I myself wanted to improve on my Time Pilot score) and we were able to have a Guinness or two with Jeff in the evening - and we had a great time talking about games of old and current.

Great memories - and I love how he's still creating fun arcade games as of this day.
