Re: Review: Mario Kart Tour - Steer Around The Gacha For A Fun, Free Take On The Series

ROBLOGNICK

I saw a report before I’d even managed to get in to Mario Kart that suggested the £4.99 a month subscription service withheld stuff behind the paywall so I was a little outraged but it turns out that, as Chris says, they’re not essential. Controlling is had enough without having to do it in a 200cc race!

The gacha system doesn’t seem worse than any other game I’ve played and so far it hasn’t bombarded me with messages about buying anything. The option is there and I’ve seen them, but you can easily ignore them. There’s a £19.99 set which is ludicrous! I’ve read reports of people buying them! I mean, they can do what’s they like with their money - it must be nice to have money to waste like that!

I’m playing with drift mode and I’m sort of getting used to it but it is awful. This is Nintendo’s “You must be able to play with only one hand” rule I’m guessing. It would be good if you could do normal steering with motion.

It’s pretty easy so far, I don’t think I’ve lost a race. I’m sure I will though the more cups I start. The level up and point system is an interesting new take on the game and could be interesting for a future Mario Kart on Switch which involves performing tricks and combos for more points! Could be good.

It’s wonderfully polished as you would expect of a Nintendo game and I think I’ll carry on with it until I get bored. I at least plan to play enough so I can buy a 10 pack of launches! You get bonuses every day so it it’ll take a while for me to get there but so far that’s fine. I don’t plan on spending a single penny on this game.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Hardware Refreshes Through The Ages

I have every single 3DS variant, sometimes multiples versions of those variants too. God I'm an idiot.

I also have a Wii Mini which I got super cheap and I've never actually used it because why would you? I've got a gorgeous red Mario 25th anniversary Wii.

I've got one of each of the Game Boy Advance systems too.

I remember back in the Gamecube days that Nintendo released this beautiful pearlescent Gamecube around the time Mario Strikers was released. I loved it, so sold my purple Gamecube and got this. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT when I took it home and saw that it didn't have the digital AV out port and I was FUMING because I imported the official composite cable at great expense. I had to return it and then buy another brand new Gamecube.

Re: Random: Don't Worry, Nintendo Switch's 'X' Button Is Still Called 'X'

ROBLOGNICK

Good god someone was bored in the office. ;-p

Why would anyone think the X button on a Nintendo controller is called anything bur the letter X? The clue or all the other buttons called A B Y Z L R, etc.

Then again, the people thinking that the PlayStation buttons are called anything but triangle, circle, square and cross are also absolutely insane.

Re: Deals: PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 Mini Pre-orders Are Now Live

ROBLOGNICK

There'a a bit of text on the Amazon product page that says "Some English games are localizations of Japanese titles."

I'm hopeful they'll add an English locations for such a text heavy game. I mean, what's actually stopping them from actually including the Sega CD version rather than the PC-Engine version? I wouldn't be mad about that.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Lite Might Not Be For You, But It Will Be A Smash Hit With My Family

ROBLOGNICK

I'd love to buy a Switch Lite but it's not a practical purchase if you've already got a regular Switch. I still want the ability to play these games at home, but I absolutely love the super portable form factor of this Switch. The smaller size, the slightly better battery, the lack of removable parts.

If I could have both and use my original Switch as my at home Switch then I'd buy this in a heartbeat but the operating system isn't built for this type of setup.

Can I log-in to two Switches at the same time? Could I play the game at home on the original Switch, then "switch" to the Lite when I'm at work or travelling? What about games that don't support cloud saves? It might be doable for games that do support cloud saves albeit a pain in the ass to have to keep uploading and downloading saves, but for Pokemon or Animal Crossing, it's just not going to work.

It's a shame that I'm not going to be buying a piece of Nintendo hardware at launch for the first time in 27 years.

Re: UK Retailers Begin Switch Lite Pre-Orders With A Placeholder Price Of £200

ROBLOGNICK

As the Switch is £279 in stories, this should have been £179. I think £199 is little too much.

I'd also love to get one though. The small(er) form factor and all in one-ness of it is tempting as a device for me to use out and about.

But the question mark over whether Nintendo will cater for people with my mindset, at least at product launch, is enough to make me hold off.

And I'm normally there for every product launch and have been since the Gamecube days. Day 1 purchaser of all hardware since, and this could be the first time I'm not.

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September

ROBLOGNICK

I want to see a size comparison next to a regular Switch.

I also want to know, for example, if I already have a Switch could I use this as a device to take with me and leave my regular Switch at home? Would a gamer I play on my old Switch piuck-up right where I left off on here? Or would I not be able to sign in to my account on the Lite if I'm signed in on my old Switch. Would Animal Crossing, which doesn't support cloud saves, only work on one console, not both?
