As promised, The Pokémon Company has revealed the identity of the 'glitched' monster which was teased on its official website. The Pokémon in question is Sirfetch’d.
Described as the 'Wild Duck Pokémon', Sirfetch’d is the evolved form of Farfetch'd. We've got some official artwork and a description for you below, including the character's key stats:
Sirfetch’d
Category: Wild Duck Pokémon
Type: Fighting
Height: 2’7”
Weight: 257.9 lbs.
Ability: SteadfastThe Farfetch’d of the Galar region can evolve into Sirfetch’d after experiencing many battles. They are calm and collected, and they make a point of always battling fairly. They are so noble in battle that they are often chosen as a motif for paintings. Of particular note is a painting—famous in the Galar region—that depicts a duel between a Sirfetch’d and an Escavalier.
In battle, Sirfetch’d uses the sharp stalk of its leek as a lance and the thick leaves as a shield. It maintains this leek over the span of many years and treasures it more than anything. When its leek finally withers, Sirfetch’d will leave the battlefield and retire from battling entirely.
Meteor Assault is a new move introduced in these games that only Sirfetch’d can learn! Sirfetch’d points its leek at the opponent and charges toward them at great speed. This move is devastatingly powerful! However, it appears that the move also puts great strain on Sirfetch’d. It will be unable to take action immediately after using this move.
Sirfetch'd will be exclusive to Pokémon Sword.
Can you believe it? After all these years, Farfetch'd finally has an evolution.
Feel free to share your thoughts on this new discovery in the comments below.

gameplay still going to be boring or nein?
Neat, now to ponder if Pokémon Shield version will get an exclusive Galarian evolution.
Although Sirfetch'd has both a sword and shield, so yeah.
This is gonna get a lot of hate for being a version exclusive
FINALLY!
Maybe Shield version will be blessed with Madame, who was cut from Gold and Silver...?
So I'd expected an announcement about an announcement of another version exclusive soon?
@RupeeClock maybe skarmory or hawlucha.
@darkswabber
Hawlucha gets equipped with a folding chair?
All that's left is Sirfetch'd riding Mudsdale in a tag team Jousting attack and he's my insta-favorite Galar Pokemon so far
@darkswabber nah most likely Dunsparce
Once again, thanks for the thumbnai spoilers, I'm so excited to have nothing left to find out in the actual game.
@Lizuka only things missing are gigantamax pikachu, lapras and meowth, meowth’s regional evolution, the 2 squirrel pokemon (that were already seen in the trailers so far in backgrounds) and the starter evo lines.
This is an outrage! GameFreak etc. etc. Masuda etc. Real fans!! Pokebank! Cut content! Lazy! Grawwwrrr!
I'm sorry, this is a Pokemon thread and I should be outraged at something but I'm not sure how to do this. Can we have a Talking Point article describing how to properly outrage on a Pokemon thread? It's difficult for noobs to understand.
This is wonderful.
@mariomaster96 or meowth, the leak said meowth will get a giga form and a regional evo (same leak that said sirfetch’d and other stuff)
Sirfetchd looksnlike it should have been called Smugfetchd.
I surprisingly love the design but, as someone who is planning to buy Shield, am really disappointed that this Pokemon is a version exclusive.
@NEStalgia I think we need a tutorial.
This is a good design, I have to say. Glad that they did him right. Now just waiting for Dunsparce evo
@LegendOfPokemon that's how they get you to buy both. Or make friends.
Shuckle’s next.
@dwbrab01 Why would a series that's always had version exclusives suddenly upset people because there's still version exclusives? Or do you mean this particular pokemon, that evolves from a throwaway Gen 1?
@NEStalgia @WiltonRoots I'd be down for that Talking Point
"The evolved form of Farfetch'd."
Frankly I find this hard to believe.
@Lizuka I think you mean... leek.
He looks like he's compensating for something...
That is pretty awesome
Oh, my....
His weapon was look like Bambu Runcing / Bamboo Spear.
Much like Indonesian warrior traditional weapon before independence day.
I suspect Dunsparce as well, to get a Shield exclusive evolution. It fits the bill as a long-forgotten, one stage weakling.
That is so fetch'd.
OO: This reminds me of when I was drunk and poor on a trip to prague when I late at night went to a burger kiosk in the streets and asked if I could buy ”Leek in bread” because I couldn’t afford a burger. What should be noted is that I’m swedish and I was trying to say onion in bread and couldn’t find the right word in my drunkenness. Leek is what I could come up with whick is similar to the swedish word lök. Fortunately the girl serving happened to also be swedish and understood my idiocy. So I got my raw onion in bread and it tasted awful...
I hate this game and it's not even out yet.
Shield to get Snorlax Evolution called Wakelax?
Or maybe a Pinsir
He has a giant shield. He has no sword (it's a spear). But he's Sword-exclusive.
C'mon now Gamefreak.
Was already leaning towards Pokemon Sword and this announcement is definitely not changing my mind. Will still wait and see, so I can compare all versions exclusives and pick the one which has the ones I like most (which is how I choose all my Pokemon versions except Pokemon Red, because Charizard [plus not having a clue there were version exclusives until playing it with friends]).
@RupeeClock I dont think its right stating that Sirfetch'd is a Galarian evolution.
Yes, Obstagoon is, but its specifically stated to only evolve from Galarian Linoone, thats why.
This evolves from any Farfetch'd. Much like how previous generations would introduce evolutions to old Pokemon such as Eevee, Tangela, Magmar, Yanma, Lickitung….
Those weren't "Insert region here" exclusive. They were just introduced then. Unless stated that Sirfetch'd can evolve from Farfetch'd found in Galar exclusively, then this is just a normal evolution.
The leek is way to long but other than that I like the design. I would like to know why its a pure fighting type instead of a normal/fighting or a flying/fighting type.
@Knuckles-Fajita
That's an interesting point, it's a Pokémon that's only been known to evolve in the Galar region, but it'll probably become available in any future games that feature Farfetch'd.
It's like how we haven't seen a Galarian Koffing yet, it might not exist. It might be that Koffing evolve into Galarian Weezing whilst in the Galar region, much like with Pikachu and Cubone into Alolan Raichu and Marowak.
Weird that it's pure Fighting type. Especially since there's only one Fighting/Flying type so far: Hawlucha.
I love this evolution! Can't wait to get myself one! Now for this to arrive in Pokemon GO too would be amazing!
@Franklin Ah, I see what you did there
Seems a bit far fetched for my tastes.
Is it a version exclusive as in you can only find Farfetch'd in Sword, or is it that Farfetch'd only evolves in Sword?? I really hope for the former
I like the design, but the typing, ability and it's signature move being another Hyper Beam is kinda disappointing.
Also, I don't understand why it was glitched at first (aside from obviously trying to drum up interest). I though that was going to tie in somehow.
@Buizel Stop trying to make fetch’d happen
@AndyRogan Snorlax will have an X form that learns Hydro Pump and Mud Slap.
@AndyRogan no, Snorlax has an SJW evolution called Wokelax 😂
Unlike the buildup to Sun and Moon, I haven't quite figured out which new Pokemon I want to build my team with...but Sirfetch'd is definitely one of them, alongside Scorbunny and maybe Corviknight and/or Cramorant.
@Late
What's interesting is that it will be the non-legendary/mythical/event mono-type Pokémon that can learn Fly.
Farfetch'd can learn Fly via TM, but drops its Normal/Flying typing when evolving to Sirfetch'd. In fact, I think it might be the first case of a dual-type Pokémon evolving into a mono-type.
I love Farfetch'd. It's one of my favourite gen 1 pokemon so to see it get some love is great.
Worst kept secret, lol.
I actually like it. And I've never been a real big fan of Farfetch'd personally. At least not using it in game. I've always liked his anime portrayal. But this looks cool.
@RupeeClock I feel like stuff like Obstagoon is a one off. Like they wanted to do an evolution for Linoone and tied it specifically to a regional variant.
Whereas this...yeah Farfetch'd just evolves now. Now HOW it evolves remains to be seen but it's implied to be level up
@Knuckles-Fajita you’re right, but I’d argue that it’s likely to be a Galarian form simply because of its typing.
“Regular” evolutions never change the typing so drastically (Fighting/Flying would’ve looked like a regular one, for example), while this changes everything, and we’ve seen that happen only with regional forms (e.g.: Alolan Marowak).
That’s also why I’m a bit underwhelmed: I don’t like it being only fighting, and never liked these instances of completely changing types upon evolution. I don’t think it makes that much sense.
I mean, why should the standard form be the same and the evolution different among regions? Why not all the line like Vulpix?
It has a sword AND shield, but it's only in Sword? 🤔
@FrowningCoach cant see pokemon drifting away from the goddamn boring gameplay, unfortunately...I wont be playing this, luigi's mansion seems so much better
@clvr You raise an excellent point. This is unusual and unique for a Pokemon to completely change type in a single evolution.
But then again once upon a time form changes like Deoxys didn't exist. Then they gave normal non-legendary Pokemon form changes.
Then we also never had a Fairy type. We never had a legendary that could evolve before, but Cosmog happened. Ultra Beasts we're thought to be unable to evolve. Then Poipole happened.
Adding Pokemon mid-generation? Unheard of. Then it happened. A mythical Pokemon that can evolve? Surely not right? Meltan exists now.
A move that has two types? It exists. A pure Flying type exists.
Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't. Ever since Gen 3 the impossible has been happening. And now it seems evolutions to totally different types are possible. Just like evolving legendaries and mid generation additions.
@Knuckles-Fajita oh absolutely, I’m not ruling it out because, as you rightly said, GF have been turning all these notions upside down, but I’d say the most likely guess for now is that it’s a Galarian evolution.
Also, correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s the first time a Pokémon evolves from a two-typed specimen to a single-typed one, regardless of it being “regular” or Galarian.
Wait...just fighting type? Very unexpected.
The leek is mightier then the sword.
He's big in all the right places.
@Knuckles-Fajita I mean, it DOES say specifically the Farfetch’d of Galar evolve into this - they could just be saying that as flavor text but it does imply me that ONLY Farfetch’d in Galar can evolve into this.
What's the point of getting this pokemon, when you probably won't be able to use it in the next game?
Sorry but I'll be busy with Dragon Quest 11 S instead of this lazy game
After all these years, Farfetch'd FINALLY has an evolution! I approve.
This does raise a question....What Pokemon will become the parallel to Sirfetch'd in Shield?
Pretty boring "REVEAL". Not much to see here.
I guess with Galar being based on the UK, it's appropriate for Farfetch'd to get an evolution (the leek is a Welsh symbol for anyone that doesn't know) i can't say i'm mad on it's design though, kinda wish it at least kept the same colouring of Farfetch'd, ah well, you can't like every design, i'm still loving Weezing's Galar form so swings and roundabouts as they say
So it loses the flying type. Odd!
I like it, now I know to get Sword over Shield
@NEStalgia
If your looking for some ideas you could always look at the comments from the Nicalis story, or the NBA"k review.
Well I’ll be reading for one of these bad boys since I’m getting shield (red.)
Red has been my color since the very first Pokémon. I can’t stray now!
....unless I buy the double pack.... then maybe I’ll be able to get this dude after all. 🤔
Anyway... WUT UP, DUX?!
@NEStalgia
Just go to youtube and watch all the wave-riding, mob-joining, opportunist hacks on how to Poke-rage. Sorted me out real quick on how to be obnoxious online #nationaldex
TPC sure seems to be enjoying the fact that they can't include every Pokémon in their games anymore. I didn't mind too much when Mega Evolutions and Alolan forms were just one-offs, but now they're saying "Hey, look at this new evolution for an old Pokémon! Isn't it cool? Don't expect it to come back in future generations!"
@FrowningCoach It'll be fun for the people who like the gameplay of Pokémon, and it'll be boring for the people who don't. Pretty simple.
As for Sirfetch'd, I freaking adore it. I love this design, honestly Definitely going on my team when I play through Pokémon Sword.
@KayFiOS To be fair, the whole Farfetch’d evolutionary line would be missing should they decide to rotate it out of one of the next games, so it’s not like they’re showing us a new evolution just to take it out in two years’ time and leave the base form in. That said, the fact that Farfetch’d is getting an evolution probably means that it’ll be included in the next few games at the very least.
I really hope this means Impidimp will be Shield exclusive. Well, I don't care which game it's still exclusive to. I'll grab whatever game I can find it in. But the sooner the better...
It's magnificent
@Knuckles-Fajita ''The Farfetch’d of the Galar region can evolve into Sirfetch’d''
I think this is a weird thing where it's a regional form of a non-existent evolution. Its ties to Galar, the drastic type change, the fact that they announced him by showing off the other announced Galarian forms first. Add all of that together, and we're looking at a Galarian evolution I think.
So Farfetch'd's evolution is now official, even in an altered form, it still has the white coloring...
Mikon and Pudi confirmed when? ducks
@NEStalgia The first step is to belittle and/or demonize people you disagree with, but you’d probably be fine at that.
@RupeeClock That's a very specific thing to be known for. Would be a fun question for some random trivia quiz.
As for being first to lose dual typing, that's unfortunately not the case. I was pretty sure there had been at least one other Pokémon with similar case and my memory didn't betray me, though it's not really a Pokémon that immediately comes to mind. It's Bellossom. Aggron also loses its Rock typing once mega evolved but that's more of a temporary thing.
Finally! Love the design.
@LegendOfPokemon Isnt this situation what tradings for?
i don't like it looks way too goofy
I don’t get all the rage about this being exclusive to Sword. Since the 1st Pokémon game there have be version-exclusive Pokémon. People are now complaining just to complain.
I was expecting it to have some wicked sunglasses based on the pixelated image
This game is going to be amazing.
Would be nice if you would stop spoiling new pokemon in the thumbnails. While the games not out yet. -_-...
Farfetch'd finally has an evolution.
It's a regional Pokemon and is going to lose the evolution next Gen.
It's exclusive move is a variant of Hyper Beam, of of the worst types of moves in the game.
anyone else think it's stupid shaking that cat toy makes them play their attack animation?
Most of the new Pokemon introduced have been the only strong thing about SwSh for me. This... is not one of them. Gonna hate it especially if it's Bea's Signature Pokemon.
Well that works, though making it the fighting type is at least a little confusing considering the design.
Steadfast and yet another hyper beam clone makes me think it will be an underwhelming Pokemon...maybe they'll dump all of its base stats into attack and make it too slow to actually do anything.
I still want a glitch Pokemon
@RupeeClock That would be cool if Relicanth or Sudowoodo had an evolution.
@ALazyUsername128 We can't give up! We've got until November to find out if Missingno. or the Mew under the truck will be added to the game yet. Hang in there, buddy!
@Travisemo007 You can't say they spoiled it if the Pokemon Company showcased it with a worldwide video.
My only issue is that it’s just a fighting type. It would have been nice to have another fighting-flying type like Hawlucha or a grass-flying type like Tropius. Just fighting type is a bit bland.
I am glad for the people who have been waiting for this ad are satisfied. To me it seems like the Galar version of the original rather than evolution tbh
Shuckle, you got this. Cuz Dorkly will keep murdering you if you don’t evolve.
@RupeeClock Speaking of once-version-exclusive, GSC got Bellossom as a branching evolution of Oddish, but the Bellsprout line didn't get a counterpart.
Then again, the sprouts did get the first dungeon named after them.
Of course it's not a flying type anymore, it's got two immense objects it has to carry around and it somehow weighs over 260 pounds now. It's a bird only in appearance at this point.
I'll slap that smug look off its face.
Cool design, always liked Farfetch'd despite his rep. of being a 'joke ' Pokemon. Sword is definitely the one to get in my eyes.
I hope that line about many battles to evolve doesn't mean it has a stupidly high evolution level. I had hoped they learned from all those BS levels in Black and White!
Tempted to swap my pre-order from Shield or Sword now. But I'll hold out and am bound to be able to still get it by transfer I suppose.
Finally, I've been waiting 19 years for Farfetch'd to get an evolution (ever since Gold/Silver introduced the concept of cross-gen evolutions)! I still wish they had given it the English name of Harebrain'd, though.
@GrandScribe @Late It's probably because it can no longer fly now that both its wings are carrying large objects. That doesn't explain the likes of Dodrio or Gyarados (or the fact that it should be able to inherit moves like Fly from Farfetch'd), but it's the best explanation I've got.
@RupeeClock By the way Its not a Sword its a lance which isn't like a sword at all. But ya that is a shield though
@Reigestugatensho
They really gotta honor that infamous hoax by giving mew a new form where it's merged with a truck
@Reigestugatensho you can if the games not out yet and you didnt watch the video. I cant skip the thumbnail here if i look at news titles here on the main nintendolife page. The video at least gives you a choice by clicking play or not.
@ALazyUsername128 Mew's new exclusive Galarian Evolution
it'll change into Psychic/Steel type.
SirFetch'ed is officially my favorite Gen 8 Pokemon so far. Duraludon is second place.
@BulbasaurusRex It can't fly because its wings are hands now, to hold the lance and shield.
@Supaguy Nah, Pure Fighting is better, a fighting/flying type would not be of much use against rock types and ice types. A pure fighting type would wreck rock and ice types. I for one needed a pure fighting type, i was hoping Crabrawler would be the fighting type for my team when it came out in Sun and Moon, but its stats were too weak. SirFetch'ed would be the first pure fighting type Pokemon in my team since i started playing.
@BlackTalon2 That's what I said, but it still doesn't explain why Dodrio and Gyarados are Flying types.
yeah i agree, Dodrio should be pure normal. Gyarados should be water dragon with levitate as the ability.
@BlackTalon2 but we already have so many pure fighting types:
Meanwhile for Fighting Flying types we only have Hawlucha. Also the fighting type makes rock attack neutral and don’t act there ain’t a bunch of other types that can beat ice types very easily. Along with an immunity to ground types, resistance to grass, fighting, double resistance to bug, and the possibility of STAB brave bird with an increased attack stat and it would be a way better gain.
@Supaguy yeah, but i never liked any of those other fighting type pokemon. crabrawler was the first fighting type pokemon i liked design wise. my current team is weak to rock. i already have bug types and flying types on my team, so i dont have a big problem with fighting types ,grass types and ground types.
it was my bug and flying types that made my team weak to rock in the first place. a pure fighting sirfetched is a very good addition to my team, it is exactly what i need, along with duraludon.
@BlackTalon2 How dare you disrespect my boi Hariyama.
But yeah, fair enough. As a fan of the current fighting types I just felt like this was a weird addition.
