Re: Random: Epic Games Sues After Unofficial Fortnite Event Sullies The Brand

Qun_Mang

They can do it without infringing trademarks, but still be obvious what they are basing the event on. Start with the name- "The Fort & Knight Royal Battle." Of course we all know you can use all the dances freely since none of them belong to Epic Games- just record people doing them rather than using screens from Fortnite. Just a couple of examples.

Re: Hardware Classics: Sega Mega Drive

I owned a Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 (yep- I'm on that side of the "pond"). But... wait for it... never an SNES.

Re: Pre-Orders Are Live For This Fully-Playable 1/4 Scale Pac-Man Arcade Cabinet

Qun_Mang

@NintoRich Well, the width is just one dimension. If each dimension is 1/4 scale, one could say that makes it 1/(4)(4)(4), or 1/64 scale. To be fair, I'm not in the model industry or an enthusiast, so 1/x scale may in fact refer to just a single of the three dimensions, so while one could say 1/64 scale, one may easily be wrong as well.

On a different note, that price tag... For collectors only in my book

Re: Random: Nintendo Finally Confirms The Correct Pronunciation For 'NES'

Qun_Mang

"ness" may or may not be correct (as argued in it comments above), but whether you agree that it is correct or not, that says nothing about referring to the system as N.E.S. That will always be correct as it is not a pronunciation at all but rather simply saying the letters of the acronym for Nintendo Entertainment System.

As for the gif debate, as mentioned above, I know a creator of the format came forward years later and stated it was pronounce "jiff", but he was years too late. It had been pronounced either way for years and as such his statement made no difference (besides, how do we even know he didn't decide that was the pronunciation just before he made the statement as opposed to when the format was created?). Similarly, one could argue this NES thing makes no difference either.

Now, back to lurk mode.

Re: Death Road To Canada Delayed Following The Recent Attack In Toronto

Qun_Mang

May God heal the hearts of survivors and families of this tragedy. That said, the cynical side of me says the Switch version wasn't quite ready and they are using the tragedy in Toronto as an excuse, and if people look up to them for this decision, then that is a bonus. This game after all has actually been available for a long time on other platforms, it is only a new release for the Switch. Now if they also temporarily suspended all sales of this game (at least in Canada) on these other platforms, then great, I happily join the kudos wagon.

Re: It's A Battle Of Sports And Popcorn In This Weekend's Splatfests

Scene from the Splatoon team in Japan:
1: "So, what's a good idea for our next North American Splatfest?"
2: "How about baseball vs football? Two American pastimes."
1: "Sound great, let's do it. Have your team set it up."
2: "Okay." (sends it off to team)
Worker on team: "Baseball vs football in North America. Hey, don't they call it soccer over there? I'd better make that change..."

Re: Feature: Remembering Toys R Us, The '90s Gamer's Paradise

Qun_Mang

Interesting subtitle. I do indeed remember Gamer's Paradise- it was a store in a Chicago-area mall that dealt with all things gaming (not just video games like EB Games/Gamestop). It was in fact where I picked up a copy of Zelda II for a large sum before it was released in the US (European import no doubt considering it had several languages, but I didn't know it at the time). The store lasted almost as long as the indoor part of the mall, before it was demolished and converted into a completely outdoor mall. There was a great arcade there as well.

Of course I know of the big box toy store you're referring to. Though I have shopped there I don't have the fond memories of it as I do Gamer's Paradise.

Re: The Dream Of Crowdfunded Switch Dock SFANS Has Turned Into A Nightmare

Qun_Mang

I have backed four projects on Kickstarter, only one of them tech- the icontrolpad 2. That one ended up in disaster, but eventually some of us got either partial refunds or an original icontrolpad (I got that one). For the three software titles, one shipped (Yooka-Laylee), the other is still progressing as far as I know (Bloodstained) and the other, the earliest of the three, still gets the occasional update, but who knows if it will see release after all this time (Two Guys SpaceVenture).

Re: Miitomo Meets Its End On 9th May

I used it for awhile on my phone and tablet to mine platinum coins. Then it stopped working on my tablet, and since good platinum rewards had also stopped I deleted it from my phone as well as my tablet.

Re: Poll: Capcom is Finally Bringing Mega Man Back - Are You Excited?

Qun_Mang

Just bought Legacy Collection 1 on a Steam sale, will get 2 when it's older and on an equally good sale, and will likely do the same for the X games and 11. I don't do much handheld gaming as it is with my 3DS, so the portability factor of the Switch doesn't faze me. If a game is on Steam, there I will buy it (on sale). When I eventually get a Switch it will primarily be for first-party games.

Re: Poll: Have Your Say on the Best Main Series 3D Mario and Zelda Games

Qun_Mang

The only one I didn't agree on with the majority was the final question. Even though I don't own a Switch and therefore never played Mario Odyssey (nor BotW with Switch controls, only Wii U), I had to pick Mario because it's the only one of the two that at its heart is an actual Switch game. Don't get me wrong, Breath of the Wild is an incredible game, but it was designed to be an equal experience on both the Wii U and the Switch and as such isn't a true/full Switch experience. As such I couldn't vote for it. Others' opinions vary of course.

That said, having never played Odyssey, should I be worried that it is winning? Does it look better than it plays? Eventually I may own a Switch and this is one of the games I would look to get for it.

Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Champions' Ballad DLC is Set for a December Release

Qun_Mang

I'm still "stuck" with the Wii U version as well. However, I still have many games I either haven't played at all or have only barely played to keep up on. Since this is about the DLC though, I should say I just purchased it and am still looking for the armor pieces- just have 4/6 of the Hyrule field pieces to go and whatever is scattered about on the Plateau. I did try the Trial once but I got killed by Stone Talus- will never win it that way. Serves me right for leaving the game dormant since June (shortly after I got my save file star)...

Re: Nintendo's Latest Zelda: Breath of the Wild Gift May Make You a Bit Crabby

Qun_Mang

@tanookisuit Fair enough, though I would say you got rid of it too soon. As for me, most 3rd-party software that I care about also comes out on PC so I personally never had a worry in that regard. I'm one who buys Nintendo mostly for first party. With Switch being both home and handheld, that is a game-changer now for me in (some) 3rd-party purchases.

Re: Nintendo's Latest Zelda: Breath of the Wild Gift May Make You a Bit Crabby

Qun_Mang

@tanookisuit " those who had [a Wii U] or for some unexplained reason still do"
Speak for yourself- you sound like an elitist. I for one (and am not alone in this!) still happily fire up games on my Wii U which I will not soon get rid of. Heck, I still have my Gamecube, though these days I play those games on my Wii U since the 'cube output was meant for a CRT and I don't keep one hooked up.
