Re: Splatoon 2 Hits Nintendo Switch This Summer With New Weapons And Stages

Qun_Mang

Sadly, though Splatoon was a day 1 purchase that I thoroughly enjoyed for the next several months, the chance of my getting this one is relatively small thanks to paid online. I know it will be free for the first year, but I won't be getting the Switch until at least that long after its launch. Unfortunately I cannot afford an additional monthly charge.

Re: Yooka-Laylee Rattles Away From Wii U Release

Qun_Mang

I just went with the Steam (edit: I think it was GoG actually) version to begin with as that one is far more convenient for me and more or less future-system proof. Think about it- the WiiU version is only good for the life of the console. That is, once my WiiU breaks, unless I can get another one I am out of luck and 10 years down the road, will I even be able to get a used one at a reasonable price let alone new? For the PC, just install steam to any new computer and log in (edit: or redownload from GoG). I don't have, and have never had, a Sony (beyond PS1) or XBox system so I don't know how their accounts work- but I imagine they would also be similar to the WiiU (unless they offer a way to play previously purchased games for a previous system on a newer system I suppose the account question doesn't even matter) though at least it will be far easier to find a used system in the future for one of those than a WiiU.

@Philo Apparently a typo. Here's what the faq says now:

"I chose Wii U as my platform. Can I get a refund?"

"All affected Wii U backers can choose another platform to receive a digital copy of Yooka-Laylee for, at no extra cost to their existing pledge (already at more than 50% discount to retail). Wii U backers can also choose to wait for updates on the Nintendo Switch early next year.

However, if you would like to discuss a refund please contact us via the Backer messaging system for Kickstarter."

Re: Video: Watch Us Go Hands-On with the NES Mini

In any event I just want to add that it serves no purpose saying one spelling is wrong and the other right. They are both right. "Color" is right in the USA, "colour" is right in the UK, and whatever spelling your country (if you're not from the UK or USA) adopted is correct.

That said, you can complain, I suppose, that Nintendo should have spelled/spelt it the way your country does, and therefore they are wrong.

Re: Video: Watch Us Go Hands-On with the NES Mini

They spelled it "Color," we spell it "Color." Ergo, they spelled it correctly.

Interesting factoid from Wikipedia (well, I copied from them but they sourced it from elsewhere):

"William Shakespeare's first folios, for example, used spellings like center and color as much as centre and colour."

Since William Shakespeare lived (in England, mind you) well before the USA existed, "color" is as much British as "colour"

Re: Here Are Your New My Nintendo Rewards

Qun_Mang

194 comments?? Seriously? I guess it's true that people love to complain- even me of course. Tons of platinum coins expiring at the end of the month. I guess they stopped offering decent platinum rewards because it is too easy to mine platinum coins using Miitomo- you don't even need real friends, just two devices (I'm sure one can even be an Android virtual machine on a PC). I stopped using it altogether several weeks ago.

Re: Fans "Shouldn't Assume" That The Nintendo Switch Reveal Trailer Features "Actual Game Footage"

As someone who videos cars for dealer websites for a living I can attest to the issues filming screens. Wit older CRTs there would often be a moving band scrolling in the video, but with modern LCD screens it can be much worse with a screen that looks perfectly normal to the naked eye will often shake or show really bad looking lines. Even older segment text displays can look bad on video.

Re: Feature: NES Mini Classics - Double Dragon II: The Revenge

Qun_Mang

My first DD experience is with the original coin-op versions. Double Dragon rocked and was one of my favorite games in its time. Slowdown? Didn't care. I couldn't wait to play DDII when it came out. The biggest issue I had was that the controls were very different from the first despite the same number of buttons. The change from the punch and kick buttons to left and right attack took a lot of getting used to and so it doesn't quite live up to its predecessor in my mind. I don't remember playing the NES version, but it sounds like they tried keep the feeling of the coin-op by upending the controls just like in the original.

Re: GameStop Won't Offer Pre-Orders for the NES Classic Edition

Qun_Mang

Was going to get my brother one for Christmas, but last time we talked and played some retro games he said he didn't really even remember the NES, but really wanted to play some Colecovision. So, Colecovison Flashback ordered. Too bad there's no Donkey Kong with it though- that was the pack-in game when we had it circa 1982-3. Thought about Raspberry Pi, but figured that would be too complicated (for him especially) and then I would have to find and buy authentic controllers with USB adapters.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Isn't Physically Backwards Compatible With 3DS And Wii U Software

Qun_Mang

Tsusasi's post mentions other articles/sources specify the dock as included, but until I read this post I was thinking that maybe the dock was just a convenience- I have a similar dock for my old DSiXL (which of course is just for charging; the WiiU comes with a charging dock as well which is also a convenience and not required). If Nintendo didn't include the dock, then surely they would include the necessary cable to connect it to the TV.

Re: Oceanhorn, A Game Inspired by The Wind Waker, Confirmed for 'A Nintendo Console'

Qun_Mang

I bought this on Steam on sale a few months ago when I first heard of it. Still haven't played it- story of my life...

WiiU/3DS games owned that have little to no play time:
Epic Mickey 2
DKC: Tropical Freeze
Ninja Gaiden 3
Lego: The Movie: The Video Game
Lego City Undercover
Sonic: Lost World
Scribblenauts: Unmasked
Mario Kart 8
New SMB U

New SMB 2
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
Mario & Luigi Paper Jam
Etrian Mystery Dungeon
Etrian Odyssey Untold
Etrian Odyssey 4

several others downloaded, and several Wii games as well.

And this of course is just Nintendo- let's just say it would be a stretch- nah, a bald faced lie actually- if I were to say Oceanhorn is in the minority when it comes to my Windows games...

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th October (North America)

Qun_Mang

My experience with the Nintendo website is that it doesn't actually show everything. Looks like I will have to go onto the WiiU and 3DS eshops now to see what's on sale.

Plus, it was always nice to know that something was going to be on sale starting later in the sale period. Now we have to check back to Nintendo's store/eshop multiple times during the week to see if anything new has shown up.

Re: Video: Nintendo UK Shows Off the Mini NES, With Comparisons to Original System

Qun_Mang

Was interested in this not for myself, but my brother. However, after showing him games on my tablet, he said what he really remembers is the ColecoVision we had growing up. So, I'm no longer concerned about being able to get one of these for Christmas as I am now going to pick up a ColecoVision Flashback for him instead. Of course, if he comes back after that and suddenly remembers the NES we later had (he was probably too busy with life at that point which is why he doesn't remember it as fondly) I can always pick him up one for his birthday. Surely the shelves will be stocked between Christmas and his birthday.

Re: Turns Out There's No Such Thing As Too Many Wonder Boy Games

Qun_Mang

@MrPuzzlez @Billsama Wonder Boy was the original game, but an odd licensing arrangement meant that while Wonder Boy couldn't be ported to non-Sega consoles as Sega owned the characters and name, the developer owned everything else about the game and worked a deal with Hudson to bring the game to the other consoles with different names and characters. Thus, Adventure Island was born. And of course since the developer owned the gameplay which they had licensed to Hudson, future Wonder Boy games had to do something different. Thus, the RPG-like Monster World/Dragon's Trap/etc games.
