Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd September (North America)

Qun_Mang

@Ralek85 Star Fox was on sale briefly at Amazon a short time ago for $26. It's over now, but the current price is still cheaper than digital.

I'll take the free theme as well. Has to be better than any of the platinum reward themes (with the painful music). More themes should be free, or at least less than what they cost.

Re: Video: Take a Look at the Nintendo Game Counsellor Guide

Qun_Mang

I don't remember if I ever called the help line- I don't think so- but I still have the maps I made for the original Legend of Zelda. I made the maps on graph paper, and had a couple pages of notes as well. I made final copies of both maps and notes on the library's Apple ][ computer and threw it all into a binder on which I hand-copied the box cover art. The latter was a tremendous feat without looking completely terrible as my fine motor skills have always been lacking.

Re: Video: A Modder Has Made Super Mario Run 64

Qun_Mang

@FlameRunnerFast That is not the file- that is a link to a forum post that explains how to run the rom. The rom link is above it- a drive.google.com link- and the file it gave me was "Super Mario Run 64.z64". That is an N64 rom file. A patch would be something like "Super Mario Run 64.ips".

What's with the attitude at the end of your post? Even if you were right that is a poor way to end a post (or a face to face conversation for that matter)- it only makes you sound immature.

Re: Talking Point: What Approach Should Nintendo Take With Its NX Reveal?

Qun_Mang

Well, a sudden reveal wouldn't work well at this point because everyone is expecting... something... from Nintendo by now. However, there are other ways. How about clever teasers suddenly showing up in all manner of media- websites of course, radio, tv, newspapers, anything that doesn't require too large of a lead time. Have different ones going, maybe like a puzzle, for a week or two, and only then the big reveal however it goes down (just make sure it's BIG).

Re: Mario Sports Superstars Is A Collection Of Five Games In One

Qun_Mang

Okay, now that I looked at the direct video, I see I had the wrong idea about the horse racing part. Seeing as I live by a race track, I assumed this to be the gambling spectator sport, but the players are actually the jockeys, making this akin to the racing segment in Ocarina of Time but better.

Still, they could have thrown in Basketball and/or the sport we Americans call football. As DLC maybe?

Re: Devs Look Back At The Original Street Fighter, The Clunky Classic Which Birthed A Genre

Qun_Mang

I only vaguely remember the original Street Fighter at a local arcade, mostly the continue screen. I also remember seeing the long Fighting Street load times on a friend's TG16 (I was too poor to own the CD attachment myself). If you look up Zeusdaz on Youtube, he has several Street Fighter 1 videos of various versions dating from about a year or so ago to more recent, and I think he even said in some of the videos that he owns a cabinet.

Re: Video: These Five Mario Games Were Never Really Mario Games

Qun_Mang

Sorry, Alex- I can't subscribe as I don't have a youtube account. Last time I tried I saw a provision about not downloading youtube videos outside of youtube, or faster than youtube serves them, and I can't agree to that. Unfortunately, now that I know it's there, I can't just do the usual thing and ignore what I'm agreeing to, just pretending I am actually only agreeing to click this button/check this box because I have to do so to continue.

Re: Anniversary: The Super Nintendo Is 25 Years Old Today

Qun_Mang

Since I already owned a Turbografx-16 and Genesis, and an Amiga 500 computer, I couldn't afford a Super Nintendo. I did manage to play several of the games though through a friend. He had one of those, you know, illicit devices (console copier- Super Wild Card? Super Magicom? Can't remember which) and so between BBS's and game rentals, had several games (Sorry, Nintendo and game publishers).

Re: Team Marie Triumphs in Splatoon's Final Splatfest

Qun_Mang

I sat out the last couple of Splatfests, and would have sat out this one as well until it was announced it would be the final one. I had to take the day off of what I would have ordinarily been doing on Saturday, but I joined in at about noon and stayed until evening. As a B-rank Marie team member (I thought of choosing Callie, but chose Marie at the last minute because I fell under the spell of her sad looking eyes... 8^) ) I won maybe 1 of 12 rounds at the beginning, but eventually won more than I lost.

It's nice that they are offering more money for winning and another way to get snails in lieu of Splatfest. I agree with those that say it would also be nice to get the night versions of the stages in the rotation somehow.

Re: Sponsored Locations Are Coming To Pokémon GO

Qun_Mang

@fiben1002 I was about to say I'm American and I've never heard of them. Seems like they haven't migrated over here yet, though with locations in southern Indiana it can't be that far off.

Well, I'll just substitute Chick-Fil-A for that one.

Re: Round Up: First Mighty No. 9 Reviews Suggest The Wait Hasn't Been Worth It

Qun_Mang

I have nothing to say about this game- didn't back it, wasn't planning on getting it any time soon (maybe once it hits the clearance bins).

Interesting to see such an argument in the comments over review systems, but am sadly not surprised to see some people with "look, my view is right, get over it." Clearly people have different ideas about how a scoring system should work. This falls pretty much in opinion territory despite being number-based which can make it seem like it should be otherwise. 5 is average for you? Fine. 7 or 8 is average for you? Fine. No different than you prefer FPS games, I prefer platform, and Joe across the street just hates video games altogether and would rather play football (whichever sport that brings to your mind).

Re: Ninterview: Preserving Gaming History With Arcade Collector ShouTime

Qun_Mang

This was a surprise to see. I've been following MAME for years (since before it was MAME in fact) and have known of ShouTime's support for a long time. I did not expect an interview on a Nintendo-related site, but if he was involved with the Sega 3D Classics Collection I can see why you interviewed him. I bought this day one and didn't realize he was involved.

Re: Nintendo Teams Up With SONIC for Mario & Luigi Promotion - No, Not That One

Qun_Mang

Now that the weather's getting warmer, I might stop at the one down the street from one of the places I work. The idea of eating in my car over the winter with the heater blasting was not very palatable- I prefer to eat inside in that case.

A lot of their food is just meh, but they have an interesting selection including popcorn chicken and tater tots. And lemon-berry slushies- yum.

With no kids I have little use for this promotion though.

Re: Here's A 3D Classics Version Of Zelda You Can Play In Your Web Browser

Qun_Mang

Annnnnd... It's over:

"Sorry, folks.

Nintendo asked us to remove this site for copyright infringement. I guess Zelda30Tribute was a little too pixel perfect We're sad about that, but we get it. We started this project because we love Nintendo and the joy they have given us throughout the years. From the start of development, we knew this result could potentially happen. Nintendo has every right to protect their IP. No complaints from us, we had a blast working on this tribute and made some friends along the way.

Big thanks to the half million folks who played our game! We learned a bunch and wrote some code that others might learn from, too. We plan to post the project to Github soon, once we've had a chance to remove Nintendo-owned assets.

We both have future software projects in the works. If you would like to keep in touch, please follow us on social media or join our mailing list. We'll let you know!

This was not the greatest game in the world, no. This was just a tribute. Thank you Nintendo for the inspiration!

Re: Interview: Solving the Puzzle of PixlCross on Wii U

Qun_Mang

I'm still getting used to the controls- I can't imagine doing this without a stylus though so I am fine with the controls as they are. I don't like the time element though- I am more of a casual player. I know I can just ignore it and go back to it on a replay however. Plenty of time to get all the achievements. Next up is to try the community puzzle aspect. Hopefully I won't find a lot of, shall we say, juvenile puzzles (rocket ships that aren't rocket ships if you know what I mean). I am hoping you have a good filter to keep these sort of puzzles out.

Re: Interview: Solving the Puzzle of PixlCross on Wii U

Qun_Mang

Thanks @james_mueller for the direct link. Just purchased it, and the WiiU LED is now showing me it is downloading it (LED turned yellow). It is nice to be able to purchase and install a game without ever turning the system on.

I am very much a fan of nonograms, and surprisingly this is my first purchase for a Nintendo system though I have many such games on Android and PC. I did download Pokemon Picross, but I haven't really played it much, perhaps because I am not a Pokemon fan. I have meant to get one of those 3DS e-series games, but since I haven't I will congratulate @PixlBitStudios (and NintendoLife) on convincing me to pick theirs up first.
