We're used to getting the odd freebie now and then, usually in the form of press kits or t-shirts, but suffice it to say we never expected to be sent anything quite of this scale; what's more this was entirely unexpected.
Make sure you check out the video above to see what's inside the goliath package, or if you're not in a position to easily watch such an audio-visual treat, check the top comment for a delightful reveal.

It's difficult to give a proper sense of scale for just how massive this thing is.
Once Nintendo Labo releases you could attach some Joy-Cons to the side and turn it into a massive scuttle-bug. You could even have it battle your others paintings.
Or... you could cut out the picture part and use it to customise your piano; creating the world's first cardboard-portrait-rotting-flesh-weasel-instrument... thing.
The possibilities are endless! ...Providing you don't think really them through. The list of viable options looks much smaller. I feel for you.
Still, if you could actually turn into some sort of freaky Labo project, that would be amazing. It's basically just paper and wood after all, which are both just a step away from cardboard.
Niiiice!! I can't wait to see where Alex hangs this in the video room! Right next to Splatoon 2 artwork!
Spitting image!
Hang it in the toilet.
@AlexOlney needs a banana for scale 🍌
Haha wow. Again, what a great game Layers of fear is, even if it is a little brief
I am jealous.
I'm not finished Outlast yet but so far I enjoyed playing Layers of Fear: Legacy more.
Is this going to be a Nintendo Life competition prize.
I laughed my butt off at the reaction.
That is awesome. LOF is a great game.
"JEEEESUS CHRIST!"
XD
Marketing people are idiots. It's no wonder some of these companies end up going out of business. This is just a waste of money imo--there's far better ways to get some good advertising that would have much greater impact on a potential buying audience. I mean, I skipped through most of the video anyway, and I have literally no idea what this was for. Do you see my point here? How is that effective advertising? The company would have been better just sending a normal poster of the game with the actual name written on it or something like that. Not really original but isn't the whole point here to get some meaningful advertising of the game....
@impurekind
Blooper just wants this image hung in Alex's video room next to all the other cool artwork! Make it happen Alex!
@HAL9000 And even that probably won't happen.
I just hope that the robin didn't take a real good look at that picture. Little birds have notoriously weak hearts...
Isn't that a future version of Lady with an Ermine (like 200 years later or so)?
@impurekind you are right, it must have costed quite a sum to paint that, not to mention the frame and the transportation fee. Maybe better marketing would be to make it an open competition with like/share on facebook, so the game could get plenty of spotlight due to an uncommon prize, rather than send it to NintendoLife, especially since Alex clearly has no idea what to do with it
@AlexOlney competition time!!!!!!
She's GORGEOUS!
Vigo finally found his companion.
Couldn't you just tell us?
Microwave stole the show really.
Bloober Team must really be desperate for eShop sales if they sent NLife of all Nintendo sites that thing.
Your apartment seems pretty roomy actually. Maybe it just seems like it from the video.
@impurekind Well, if it was just a poster, NintendoLife probably wouldn't have made a video about it. I know I haven't heard about the game before now.
Okay fine. I’ll buy the game already! Gosh!
Reveal almost as funny as Phoebe's Gladys
Try jumping inside it
@impurekind The print is probably around 400 maybe 500 and I would wager the frame to be in the 500-800 dollar price point depending on the maker. It looks like there's no glass on it which wildly reduces the price of something that size (two years working in a gallery and frameshop and spent a lot of time playing with pieces this big). Shipping could be like 100 bucks.
Bloober has had some successful games. According to Steamspy they have almost 2 million PC sales for Layers of Fear and who knows how well the console versions have done. Let the dudes have some fun.
Is there a NintendoLife main office that it can be hung up at? Or does eveyone just sort of work from home?
Guess like this is from the Layers of Fear dev. Makes sense, but wow, what a huge and ugly portrait lol.
This was an amazing video. I mean why did it have to be that size? Imagine they wanted to do it even bigger but couldn't find a way? As for what to do...competition time?!
@AlexOlney "This is the biggest and weirdest thing I have ever been sent!" CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
By any chance did the package come from Colombia, Alex? 😂
hang i behind the bed
Is LOF frame rate improved from the Xbox one version? That one literally hovered around 20 fps the whole game.
Holy cow! That thing is huuuge!
@impurekind I'd say it was sent as a thank you for Nintendolife heavily promoting the game before its launch 2 weeks ago. Advertising they will have paid for of course but also advertising that has contributed to their game having a successful launch. So yep a thank you that was so surprising it ed to a video being made about it which in turn had led to even more advertising for their game that they didn't need to directly pay for.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Layers of Fear is a must buy and well worth every penny. It's a game that every Switch owner who can handle being terrified must pay.
I gotta say, that is absolutely mint. Just hope you don’t frighten the neighbor to death if you do leave it in the hallway!
Why would anyone pay for that... How about other gaming characters? I'd like Luigi, Link, or Revan, & Meetra Surik from Star Wars.
Different tastes.
@edgedino Indeed. Bedroom is the best place to put this lovely portrait. And if you have a gf Alex invite her ASAP to stay for the night
@AlexOlney "What am I gonna do with it?!"
Bloober Team: "The story will continue..."
Put it on the ceiling above your bed.
That's a great image to fall asleep to.
Quite clearly your worse video ever.
i thought that box was gonna be full of letters crying for mother 3 but if that was true the box would be much bigger
Just thought I'd say that it is very unlikely Jesus Christ had anything to do with that painting. That is all.
I'd hang that thing up in a heartbeat. It is awesome.
Oooh, we've seen inside Alex's apartment, does that mean we are one step away from metting your parents?
Edit Are there any hidden messages behind or on the painting?
This has been your funniest NL video ever @AlexOlney, bravo
Have you decided what to do with it yet?
Holy heck, that is gigantic! That portrait would be taller than me...
Liked the video, and your WTF face at the end made me laugh!
Post an update when you decide what to do with it, or if it is still blocking your kitchen!
You should get some proper sleep mate from those long gameplay hours (me too).
Mmmmm Hot Cross Buns!
Isn't it considered a bribe? Sending gifts to reviewer's private residence?
Btw, that's what Mona Lisa looks like without her makeup.
Looks like a really cool macabre remake of Lady with an Ermine, by da Vinci.
Guess it makes sense coming from Poland.
Coulda saved this for April Fools in a couple of weeks.
Ok ok, I love this advertising stunts... I’ll check out the game
I bet the person who sent that thought, 'What the hell am I going to do with this s**t, I know!!!'
Spooky portrait!
It can't stay in the flat -> Reader sweepstakes!
Alex's reaction and that face he makes, so funny--I needed that.
@impurekind 33k views in 22 hours seems ok to me so far. These will be views with very little “wastage” e.g. mostly gamers.
I would be relatively cost effective as opposed to buying a print ad or out of home advertising.
In a commercial environment as crowded and cut throat as gaming any marketing that stands out could give a company the edge.
I don’t think this would have cost much (comparative to traditional media). It will end up being displayed somewhere so that could lend the piece some longevity.
Plus, to get the attention of a games ifluencer like Alex is also a good move.
@impurekind Even though you don't get it doesn't mean it isn't effective. This is a strategy used in abundance by both big and small companies. Did it work for me? Surprisingly yes. It almost wanted me to buy it again on Switch. Yes... I actually already played and finished the main game. But maybe due to the empathy of the gesture and the surprise of Alex it made me trigger at least a bit. And you know what? During a sale I will get it again. It's hereby put on my eShop wish list. Effective? Not for you maybe, but it surely got me! And I can assure you factually without having the numbers I am definitely not the only one.
@AlexOlney my god get in with it! How long can you drag it out for..... you trying to get those hours in for YouTube huh? Haha
I get that it seems like effective marketing but how horrid a gift. Lol enjoy that looking down at you!
Bonkers!
It is absolutely beautiful!!! It's an horror versions of Leonardo's "La Dama Con L'Ermellino". I love this thing! Woow...
Anyway, if you have an office you can put it just behind your desk, to instill fear in all who came inside... 😂😂
I'm gonna buy the game after this. Definitely.
