Quite naturally Nintendo can't sell more systems than they can make. And if they have to launch worldwide, presumable closer to the holiday season, there will be a limit to have many systems can be available in the US between launch and new years.

As long as it can properly function as a pointer again, I would be happy.

I really miss that functionality from the Wii.

While this is cool, I disagree on whether Nintendo should want to adopt the idea.

As soon as any part of the input/output funtionality of any console hardware becomes optional, 50%+ of the users can be expected not to have it available, and as such will not be interested in games that require it. Even on the Wii, where everyone got a Nunchuck with the system, games that required it sold noticably worse. Merely because you could detach the nuchuck and lose it / leave it in a drawer and forget about it.

This. Nintendo has proven time and time again that they're perfectly capable of dropping a grand opportunity on the ground. Not caring to pick it back up and taking it to the doctor.

We'll see with this one. The more I hear, the more skeptical I grow, but I'd of course love to be proven wrong.

With all the weird stuff on the eShop, what could possibly have caused such a brutal cancellation?

I hope we get in insider scoop with some specifics eventually.

I don't think the reasoning for the sale is much more technical than the founders all pushing 60, and having earlier this year celebrated the studio's 25th anniversary.

I'd imagine they feel ready to pull back a bit, and let a younger generation and Nintendo management take over more of the daily operations.

I'm sure those last four percent cost enough to ensure an ample pension plan for the gentleman founders. ^^

Yeah, I don't watch the Oscars either.
But I hope the people who enjoy this kind of show will have a blast. <3

With Prime 3, Nintendo likely wanted to make sure it was a real show stopper.
They were VERY pressed at the time leading up to the Wii launch.
In the end, it's my least favorite of the trilogy. Tries WAY too hard, which might be partly rooted in the demands and the micro management.

I -really- hope the new system arrives with an empty eshop, and that developers have to re-release to make in on there.

Let's see how the last holiday season as flagship treats the Switch, and what legs it has after the successor arrives.
PS2slim sold quite a lot during PS3's first few years, as I remember it.

I'd probably have more sympathy for Keighin in this matter if he hadn't monetized the videos and streams. And if he'd stopped his shenanigans the first time he was asked.

At this point in time his channels on both YouTube and Twitch have just VANISHED. Ouch.

What's happening in this case might not be what you think. Reading HeadPirate's comments in this thread should provide valuable insight.

Nintendo obviously prepared this case well, and they're leveraging their "extensive experience in patent prosecution and patent infringement litigation" to pursue victory.

Are they bullies? If we roll with that terminology, certainly Pocketpair were being petulant, disrespectful brats.

Loving that control scheme, this is beautiful. ^^

Perhaps you've ended up with two separate accounts?
You're logging on to your Nintendo website account, which isn't necessarily linked with the active account created on your Switch.

With every single track from Wii's Photo Channel and Mii Contest channel on there, I'm hoping to also see the outstanding Wii U eShop songs show up at some point. :x

Sure. Many of their games have a music player inside of them. Just like they occasionally have some sort of achievement system.

@Uncle_Franklin YouTube on the Switch is an app built entirely by YouTube themselves. And it kinda sucks. It's supposedly only on there because Nintendo agreed to share users, as part of the deal with integrating video sharing to the platform.

Outside of YouTube, there's almost nothing. No browser, no anything, not even Nintendo's own parental controls app.

@Uncle_Franklin Because the actual Switch is all about playing Video games. This sounds like I'm brushing off the question, but Nintendo really has made some stern choices to make sure their users think only of playing games when picking up the device.

@AlienX They were indeed referred to as launch screens on the original Wii, where channels were framed as actual tv-screens you could zap between with the wiimote.

Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, Kirby's Dreamland, and (the complete list of every single permutation of songs from every single one of the) Wii channels? Nintendo knows how to hook me from the get-go. ^^

I don't hate the game, but it does have som design issues making it less fun than it could be, I'd say.

I hate to be such a grouch, but the actual issues with this game were never really the graphics. :-/

This is the reason Nintendo traditionally hasn't allowed match making with strangers for most of their games.

That was really nice. At the time of Iwata's passing, it was fairly clear that Sakurai was affected, so this bit of closure felt very welcome.

I am fully aware that they have much more money at their disposal. That's why this is not a big deal. They just sell a bit of their Nintendo stock because it -is- currently at a good price, and noone can be sure that it will go up further. It is VERY unlikely to go up 25 - 30% from it's current price anytime soon, as that would put them well above their all-time high from 2007.

And in case it really does, as a reaction to the reveal of the next system, the saudis still have plenty of stock to sell at this new, higher price. In case the stock falls as a reaction, because people don't trust the new system to be as successful as Switch on reveal, they have at least sold a good amount at the current high, and might even buy back the same 1% at a lower price than what they just got for it.

This is a completely regular portfolio adjustment.

Sure. This is regular day-to-day numbers and decision making for them. Sell some of your stock when the price is high, and buy more of something else that is currently priced low.

Selling 1% of Nintendo at the current price will have netted them six hundred million (600.000.000) US dollars.

That's a lot of money they can invest elsewhere.

This is most likely the system's last holiday season as Nintendo's flagship, so they better sell as many as they possibly can, to keep the system alive and healthy during the early life of the next one.

They steal from the best in the biz, and their players should be happy to have it.

Do they do it as well as Nintendo does?
Who cares. It's largely for a different audience, and they seem to really enjoy it.
